Howdy Jerry,

Here you go:
How do I enable or disable fast startup?

Fast startup is a feature in Windows that helps your computer start faster.
You can use the following steps to enable or disable fast startup.
1. Type Control Panel in the search box.
2. Click Control Panel.
3. Click Power Options.
4. Click Choose what the power buttons do.
5. Click Change settings that are currently unavailable.
6. Tab down to Shutdown settings and uncheck Turn on fast startup.
7. Click Save changes.

Howdy Jerry,

Do you have Fast Start enabled? If this is enabled then when you shut your
computer down it doesn't really shut down, but it goes into a hibernated
state that allows the computer to wake-up & install updates, run security
scans, & whatever the Widows 10 system is supposed to do in this state.
These tasks are all scheduled and designed to do their thing when your
computer is not being used. But, if Fast Start is disabled it can't do
these scheduled tasks. So, in your case if Fast Start is not turned on in
can't wake-up to install the updates and you would have to do them manually.
If you have Fast Start enabled and the updates aren't being installed there
might be an error code message somewhere which explains why. if you do a
search using the error code number as your search criteria.

Evening all.

Using JAWS 2018 and Windows 10 on a Dell laptop, I have a confusing problem.

When I go to shut down my laptop, I close all open programs with the
exception of JAWS. After returning to the desktop, I use the ALT F4 command,
and I get an option for updating and shutting down. But after pressing this
option, my laptop goes ahead and shuts down. So, the next time I start my
device, and shut it down for the day, I still get this option. I go into the
Windows notifications, and it states there is an update that was not able to
be completed. Any suggestions/advice on this problem? Thanks in advance for
any help.

Try using Windows-X and then arrowing up to the shutdown options.

Re: [JAWS-Users] windows updates

2016-12-19 Thread Joseph Lee
Hi,
Three reasons:
1. Reducing fragmentation: because people chose to install updates they
wanted, it became a bit hard for Microsoft to track down issues and come up
with workarounds as quickly as possible, hence cumulative update model was
implemented in an attempt to reduce this.
2. Ease of deployment: the idea behind this move is to get people up to
speed in getting their computers updated to latest patch level in one move.
3. Windows 10's influence: Window 10 embodies the above reasons when it
comes to CU's (at times, cumulative updates caused issues).
Cheers,
Joseph

But, reviewing with the Jaws cursor, it says checking for updates. I

Mike, in addition to what MSA told you, I heard that since it's a fresh

none are left. there are updates for updates already installed, not just

talking about windows updateI was a bit nervous to post this.
I'm using windows10jaws17.
when I check for updates...it says..checking for updates...it takes
it's swt time.

the last updates were from the 7th of october
this is annoying!.
what's wrong..or what can I do to fix it?
At 02:20 PM 10/14/2015, you wrote:
some windows updates were installed this morning and in the update
history it says that they were successful but when I enter the
installed updates link I only find two of the updates and there were
about six of them

does anyone know what might of happened?
and also when windows updates update I thought it was to put the
most resent updates in the list first I had to go down about six

Hi randy,
Sinse you are running w-10.
You do not need to worry about windows updates, they will take care of
themselves in the background.
Otherwise, they will begin to install themselves, then the next time you do
a restart or do a shutdown and start up.

They will finish updating, nothing to worry about.
So, take a deep breath and enjoy w-10.

Anna, the other way, according to some googling:
clicking Control Panel, clicking Programs, and then, under Programs and
Features, clicking View installed updates.

2. Select the update that you want to remove, and then click Uninstall.
If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type
the password or provide confirmation.

if this doesn't work, hopefully someone who uses 8.1 can let you and the
list know.

Anna, you're doing nothing wrong. I don't use W8.1, so maybe
uninstalling updates, in your case, an optional one is handled a bit
differently than what I laid out scratching forhead? hopefully,
someone who uses 8.1 will give the answer.

Your going to have these, because as long as custom design can be
used in web pages and programs. They will be problems. Jaws goes by
the standards and they are not always fallowed. When they are and
jaws still acts up then its a bug in jaws.

Hello all, it seems in the past month or two there are websites I used to be
able to navigate around as far as shopping and such. Now it seems when I go
to activate a order button it does nothing at all. Also when filling in a
form say to create a new account and the form field is on, it won't read
what I typed in or things are getting put in the wrong places etc. I
certainly have had the experience of a website updating their website and
so-called improving it to my detriment

As far as accessibility is concerned, but I just wondered if when there is
a windows update does that ever mess with jaws and its capability to handle
these things? I have Windows 7, and IE 8. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance.

According to my wife she does not have an overly easy time when she shops on
that web page either. She manages because although she does use JAWS on her
system in some cases she uses the mouse which she can do on a limited basis.

Possibly further incite may come the next time she shops which to be honest
is not that often because she gets her stuff in quantity so it' only a few

Yes, windows updates can and have messed with jaws. That has ben
proven with bulletins on the Freedom Scientific support for jaws.
I would have to say they updated the site and jaws don't handle it as
well. I am finding that out with a lot of sites.
Most of the web bugs should be fixed in j15 or maybe not like the
copy and paste issue or the task tray showing but always giving info
for it and not what you pick. More interested in those useless bells

When trying to create an account it wouldn't read back to me things I'd
typed in and when trying to put in my phone number it was impossible to get
it in the right place. See what you find. Judy

Possibly, but before you do that post the link to the page in question to
get some other opinions if you would not mind. I admit to being a bit
curious myself.

So if I went from IE 8 to 9, do you think it will make a difference? Thanks.

That is doubtful to be the cause of your problem. It might be in your best
interest to upgrade your browser. For example my wife goes to the USA
network home page once in a while and it gives her some issues because she
is running IE 8 on an XP system at least for now. It is being considered to
be upgrade to windows 7 in the near future.

David and all, after all my trouble trying to create an account last night I
wrote a very empassioned email to customer service about their new and
improved website. Surprisingly this morning I had an email from a supervisor
who apologized and had created an account for me with my email. I was able
to complete the order, but still where you put in your credit card info was
a bit tricky. This is where I was shopping.
