Make sure that your speech echo is said to either characters or characters and
words while in the application such as Internet Explorer. You can change your

Dear List friends,

I have been facing a strange problem during the past couple of days don’t
know if it is JAWS-related.

Previously, JAWS used to say “star, star” when I typed passwords in Internet
Explorer. But now JAWS stays silent. I know that the password is getting
typed because the star symbols appear on the screen pressing Enter after
typing the password performs as expected.

I am using JAWS 16 on a computer running Windows 7 OS.

Kindly inform me how I can get JAWS to speak again when typing passwords.

Thanking you all in advance for any all assistance.

Tom,

I'm guessing the info I sent earlier may not be for Outlook 2010. Sorry
about that.

I found this info specifically for Outlook 2010. It tells one how to enable
Journal, but I would think following these steps may give you the Disable
option, too.

You can have Outlook 2010 create automatic journal entries for a wide range
of items, including email messages (both sent and received), task requests,
and files that you create or open in other Office system applications. In
fact, you can use automatic journaling to record activities based on any
contact, Office system document, or Outlook 2010 item that you select.
For example, suppose that you routinely exchange important email messages
with a business associate, and you want to track all exchanges for
reference. Incoming messages from this associate arrive in your Inbox. You
read them, reply to them, and then archive the incoming messages to another
folder. Now, however, your associate's messages are stored in one folder and
your replies are in another. (By default, replies are stored in the Outlook
2010 Sent Items folder.) Configuring the journal to track all your email
exchanges with your associate automatically places a record of all messages
relating to this contact (both received and sent) in one convenient
location. Instead of hunting for your response to your associate's question
from two weeks ago, you can open the journal and find the entry associated
with the message. Double-click the link embedded in the journal entry, and
Outlook 2010 takes you to the message containing your response.

Enabling the Journal

To enable the Journal look at your Mailbox Folders list and select Journal.

Figure 1: Journal on Navigation Pane

You will receive the following prompt; click Yes to enable the Journal.

Figure 2: Prompt to turn Journal on

Once you enable Journaling you will be presented with the Journal Options.
Here you are given all possible variables that can be set for the Journal.

 Figure 3: Journal options

For our example we will track all file usage in Microsoft Excel.

A. The Journal function in Outlook can be used to track document changes and
openings, mail actions, meetings and task management however it can take up
a large amount of space if not archived regularly.

If you don't want the features of the Journal it can be disabled as follows:

1.Start Outlook
2.Select Options from the Tools menu
3.Select the Preferences tab and click 'Journal Options'
4.Unselect all boxes and click OK
5.Click OK to the main dialog

Unfortunately, the release notes for this update are very generic; all FS says
is that it corrects an issue that had been made known to the company through
automatic error reporting. While this suggests that the update is minor, the
timing of its release is quite thought-provoking, as it hasn't been too long
since the previous update came out. Besides, why would FS release an update
that addresses only one issue? To my knowledge, this has never happened before.

RE: blocking mail

2015-05-12 Thread Chris Jenkins via Jfw
Hello.

It sounds like you may have inadvertently or not blocked the mail server side.
You should probably white list any mail that you want to receive both
server-side and client-side. The thing that makes me believe that this is not
client-side is the fact that you would still have the mail in a spam folder on
your machine, and it would not be kicked back.

I recently saw that someone was wanting to find HJPad and couldn't do so. In
Windows 7, this is fairly easy, but not so in Windows 8.1. I got curious, so
I started looking around. I finally found it, and here's how I did it.

1. Press the Windows key to get to the start screen if you aren't
already there.

2. Tab once. You will land on a button that says apps.

3. Press the space bar to activate this button.

4. You will then be presented with a very long list of everything that
is on your computer. Type jaws. It will automatically go into the search
box.

5. Start arrowing down. The item you want is called utilities JAWS
16. I assume if you're using a different version number you would find the
same thing with the number of your JAWS version. I only have 16 on the
particular machine I tested on.

6. Press enter on this item, and you will find all of the things you
used to find in the JAWS program group in all programs on older versions of
Windows.

Hope this helps someone out.

Try this:

1. Windows key to get to the search box
2. up arrow to all programs, submenu.
3. right arrow to open it.
4. arrow down to JAWS (closed).
5. Right arrow to open it.
6. Arrow down to tools.
7. right arrow to open it.
8. arrow down to 'start JAWS with eloquence.
9. Press the right mouse click button or shift-f10, and hope for a
send-to submenu.
10. arrow to 'send to desktop, create short cut and whack enter.

Good luck!

I tried going to the file location, but didn't find anything there.

I had the people from Staples where I purchased the computer, to install

I really appreciate this group of wonderful people who are so supportive.

Barbara,
I don't have Windows 8.1, so I don't know if it works the same as in
version
7. Once you have located JAWS on the Start Menu, try Shift F10 to bring up
the same menu that you would get with an Applications Key. See if there is
a Send To choice on this menu. Desktop may be one of the choices.

Note that Shift F10 and the Applications key don't always result in the
same
menu choices, but hopefully the Send To choice will be there.

RE: Jaws question

2015-04-23 Thread Chris Jenkins via Jfw
Hello Jen.

If you want to load Jaws for windows. You can open the run dialog box and type
jfwxx wherexx is the version of Joss for Windows that you want to run, so
if you wanted to load Joss for Windows version 16, you would open the run
dialog box and type jfw16 and press enter Jaws should load. You can of
course assign a keystroke to launch Jaws, but you will have to assign it
yourself. It does not come preassigned that I know of. The other problem with
doing this is what if you forget to reassign the keystroke when you upgrade
Joss.

I hope this helps.

Hi all,

I’ve been trying to find the answer to my question in Jaws help, but for the
life of me, I can’t find the answer.

How do I turn Jaws back on after turning it off?

I thought it was alt+control+J, but that doesn’t seem to work.

I had shut Jaws off so my sighted niece could use my computer without any
annoyance from Jaws, but the only way I know how to get it back on is if I
restart my computer.

I don't think we're talking about the same tabs here. I'm talking
about tabs within a web page, not separate web pages opened in
different tabs. Does this make sense? There are some web pages that
seem to be divided into different tabs... our university library's
site is just one. I think Blackboard Learn has different tabs as well.
I'm not sure, but I think the Freedom Scientific website is divided
into tabs. I'm wondering if there is an easy way to navigate these
tabs... hope I'm using the correct term.

Thanks,

If you are using Windows 7 or Windows 8. I believe the easiest thing to do
is explore your settings from either the start screen are start menu in the

where program name is the name of the program. You may want to open the

If you are not using the virtual ribbon. The keystrokes to do this are

In Office 2007 and above, alt+h, then o, then r is rename sheet;

The keystrokes will not work if you are using the virtual ribbon. You have

RE: one letter

2014-08-17 Thread Chris Jenkins via Jfw
Hello.

You need to do three things to accomplish what you want to accomplish. Go
into word and make sure that the application-specific voice profile is set
to the default profile. To do this, you should open word, while focused on
word, you should press Jaws key + control +S this will open the select a
profile combo box. You will have two combo boxes in here. The first combo
box sets the default voice profile and the second one sets the
application-specific voice profile. Right now we want to make sure that all
of your applications are using the default profile. Meaning that you should
hear for Microsoft Word 2013 combo box. Use default. Once you do this
for all applications. You should make sure that the default profile is set
to eloquence.

referred to Reed, so I know you have it. You seem like an old hand, so I

think you'd be more than half way home. Besides, the Nuance voices come on

Judith,

The only sappi voice I have available on my computer is a female voice
called Anna and she is pretty awful. Have you tried the Eloquence voice?

Eloquence is the default voice for Jaws. If you want to try it, bring up the
Jaws screen then press alt F. Arrow down to voices and press enter. Press
enter on voice adjustments. You will be placed in the profile menu. I
believe the top selection is eloquence. If you haven't adjusted the rate
etc. it will sound pretty slow. But the rate, amount of punctuation and
other parameters may be adjusted if you like the quality of the voice.

I like eloquence very much and I use it on all my computers running jaws.

I hope this is helpful.

Hello.

You should probably go through the wizard to set jaws to your liking.
However, if all you want to do is change the voice you can do this by
pressing control + John T +S once you get in this dialog box, you have the
option to change either the default setting are the application setting. If
you have already changed the application setting and want it to be the same
as the default setting. You can tell it to use the default setting.

My name is Jamie. Yesterday I sent out a message regarding tv tuners,
SnapStream, and Carbonite for Windows 7. I did get a message back regarding
accessible tv tuners where Jim Jones was looking in to something for me. I
discovered that SnapStream Beyond tv is still out there, but no longer
taking on new customers. My final question was regarding JAWS scripts for
Carbonite for Windows 7. I found a tutorial done by someone who had Windows
XP, but not for Windows 7. Does anyone have any idea of any scripts for
Carbonite for Windows 7? I just signed up for the 15 day trial of
Carbonite, but will get rid of it if I find there are no scripts for it. I
was hoping to having an online back-up of all my data, especially since I
just completed getting all my cassette music and old-radio collection, and
my cd collection on a hard drive. This has been several years in the doing.
Thanks for any suggestions you may have.

I run a program that for whatever reason has a lot of extraneous symbols in
the user interface. They don't interfere with useability, except that it
takes JFW longer to actually read things to me if it has to waid through
them. Is there a way in JAWS 14 where I can tell it to ignore those? If not
for a specific program, then globally? I poked around in the graphics and
symbols part of settings, but nothing there seems to be doing what I expect
it to do. If there's a workaround, I'd love it.

each time I land on colored text in Word. I go through the entire process,
save the scheme with a new name, and click OK when asked if I want to run
JAWS with this scheme. I then go to my Word document with some colored text,
press say all, and... Nothing. JAWS keeps reading and no pleasant piano
notes alert me to the color change.

Can anyone suggest what I might be missing?

Is it possible that my synthesizer limits what I can do with speech and
sounds? I have a Dectalk Express, which understandably limits my options in
other areas, but I don't understand why it would prevent JAWS from playing a
sound. I do get sounds in other JAWS contexts, such as when entering and
exiting forms mode, settings I made myself.

Thanks.

programs?
I can't find the stinkin' all-programs list, to start with. Bail outs

be appreciated!

Thanks,

RE: wanting to not say email addresses

2014-07-24 Thread Chris Jenkins via Jfw
Hello.

If you are using Outlook 20 13th. I think it would be easier to go into the
customized list view and change the fields that you want to be read. Even
if you cannot change this field to be silent. You could at least put it on
the end and have the most important stuff. Read first.

I hope this helps

how to do this?

Thanks

It makes no difference if you double activate JAWS cursor are not. The JAWS

Once you route JAWS to PC the JAWS cursor is automatically activated. Try
doing what you've been doing without activating the JAWS cursor.

I've got another request from my JAWS business partners. Here's the issue
as they described it:

The cursor mode issue is as follows:

In Microsoft Outlook, when I use Insert minus key to route the mouse pointer
to the cursor (route Jaws to PC), and then press minus to go to Jaws Cursor
mode, Jaws should read everything from left to right where the mouse pointer
is. When I press the up and down arrow keys, the mouse should move
accordingly and read that row. Instead, the mouse pointer jumps to the top
center of the screen and gets stuck there. The invisible cursor has the
same issue in Outlook.

RE: How to silent certain keys

2014-07-17 Thread Chris Jenkins via Jfw
Hello.

To do what I believe you want to do you should go into the settings center,
expand the keyboard branch of the tree, and press on the key label option.
Once here you can silence any key that you would like.

I hope this helps.

I support a few JAWS business partners who have recently been upgraded to
JAWS 15 and Microsoft Office 2013. I've got a specific question in regards
to folder viewing in Outlook 2013. We can get to folder view via Ctrl-Y key
combo no problem, but if we navigate to the Draft folder the Ctrl-y
keystroke no longer works and it's a chore to get back out of the Drafts
folder. Any suggestions? And we were also wondering if anyone had put
together a JAWS and Office 2013 keystroke reference guide, I didn't see
anything out on the Freedom Scientific site.

what is the best view to use while using Microsoft Office Outlook 2013?

2014-07-07 Thread Chris Jenkins via Jfw
Hello.

I have just installed Microsoft Office 2013 and I'm curious which view is
best to use while reading email messages. I am upgrading from Outlook 2007.
I generally like messages grouped by conversation the problem that I seem to
have with doing that in Outlook 2013 is that Jaws for Windows keeps saying
group before it reads the name of the group. Does anyone know how to
correct this

Thanks in advance.
