2011-02-25 Thread Steve Glover
Netters,

have a KR2 with a Revmaster 2100, widened 2", fixed tail dragger set up as a
single seater, and has a sliding canopy. Aluminum fixed gear. It is a flying
plane and is for sale for $11,500 to the right person. I can send pics next
week and will have a full spec sheet. I am going through the plane now checking

Good Morning Netter's,

I have been reluctant to address this as I didn't want create a big uproar
on the net. Here's the deal. Our original agreement with RR was we would
distribute plans to ensure they would be delivered in a timely manner and
that there was some form of direct contact for builders. Initially we
didn't get a break and it was costing us. Eventually we were getting a
little break so with that and shipping we could cover our costs and make
about 7 - 10 bucks. Toward the end of the year a couple things occurred.

A. Our hangar was flooded out at Corona with about 9' of water. Ultimately
we couldn't get back in for 3 weeks to get tings cleaned up and moved out.
We relocated to Chino where we do not have to be concerned with flooding
again and have been working long hours to build out the facility. In
addition we are building/ rebuilding tooling, making parts for two large and
several small orders and are attempting to get organized and productive
again.

B. Some things transpired while Jeanette was away for the holidays that
changed plans availability. I have been in touch with her and we are
working on a resolution. It may be that we will now hold the plans and
production rights to facilitate easier production and delivery. We should
have all this worked out soon. There will be some eventual changes if/ when
this occurs. As of now KR-2S plans and builders manuals are shipped with a
complete set of KR-2 plans and drawings as well. This will no longer be the
case as the plans and builders manual will be updated and consolidated to
include only either the -2 or 2S drawings, whichever is applicable.

Greg,

I have a stock width KR2S (36") and would agree it's a little tight for 2
people. You need to be really good friends to fly in a KR2!

Having said that, if you widen the fuselage you will not be able to use the
pre- made turtledeck parts from Steve Glover ( Rand top deck kit) without
some serious modification as they do not stretch at all.

If you are going to scratch build everything then I would go with at least 4
inches wider for comfort. You will be glad you did.

Cheers

Mine are pure Hoerner tips, best I can tell. Jones appears to have done a
better job of reading the KR manual and done them from the get-go. That
being said, when I did mine I was in too much of a hurry to spend a few
hours and do the research to see exactly what that means. So I sortof
kindof did a Hoerner tip, and then nicely rounded all the edges, which
killed the effectiveness completely, I now know. To do a Hoerner tip, glue
a chunk of foam on the end of the wing and contour the top and bottom to
match the adjacent airfoil. Glass it or carbon fiber it, and with a square
end on it (perpendicular to the ground). Then take a hacksaw or something
similar and starting at either the front or the rear, and using the top edge
of the airfoil cut about a 60 degree angle (measured from vertical) inward
towards the fuselage using the upper "corner" as a guide.

http://www.n56ml.com/wingtips/100629071m.jpg comes pretty close to telling
the whole story. Note that the outer edge of the wing is parallel to the
centerline of the fuselage. That's what eluded me 10 years ago. Viewed
from the top you'd never know it was anything but squared off. The theory
is that you can radius the bottom a little, but the top has to be a sharp
corner so the air can't turn that sharp cornerand turn inward into a vortex,
which would be a drag producer. I need to tuft that tip and show the
results. Probably a lot better than previously. Good point though,
regarding sunsets.I took several hundred pictures of the wingtip
process, but flying and taking sunset pictures is a lot more fun and
relaxing that creating web pages. That's something else I've learned in the
last five years. Sorry about that

Hi Joe,

The cowling we had at Sun N Fun was actually one of WW's. We didn't have
one of ours there for logistical reasons. I think you are right about the
need or extra stiffening. One thing we may do with the cowlings we have is
add a 1/8" core in the areas you have mentioned to help with rigidity but
keep it light.

Larry,
If you go to http://www.krnet.org/krs/jhorton/ A couple of the first few
pictures show the current state of my cowl and the very last picture shows
the way it was formed when I first started flying it. The cowl was orignally
bought from Rand but it weighed 18# before any fitting and changing. I
pulled a mold off and sold the cowl and made the one that is on the plane.
It is made from carbon fiber and weighed only 6.5# before I started
modifiying, It probably weighs about 8# now . The orignal way had an out
side scoop for the carb but the aerocarb did not llike it so I changed the
bottom to enclose the carb and filter. I have done some testing on the
intake holes and think that I canclose them up by several sq. inches on each
side with no effect on cooling.

what the Cowl looks like. NVAERO said his cowl was like yours. I just
received one from another location that has to be a VW cowl and so as
William has not responded I am still in need of a Cowl. Thanks

Everything essential to understanding the new wing can be found here:

http://www.krnet.org/as504x/

On that site Mark's comments on Troy Petteway's replacement of the RAF48
wings with AS504X on his airplane indicates that the CG remained exactly the
same. Obviously, so did the spar spacing and placement on the airframe so
to answer the question indirectly, I believe one of the design goals for the
new wing was to maintain the same structural geometry and CG envelope and
there are enough examples now flying with the new wing to confirm that that
is the case. Mark could tell us more about the aft 2" of the published KR
center of gravity envelope with the RAF48. Most builders consider those
last aft inches to be "no fly" loading.

Here's the original manufacturer of the Dragonfly canopy - I believe they
still are producing them. Give them a try.

Aircraft Windshield Company
Alamitos, CA

FYI - the Dragonfly is a molded canopy - Todd's is blown - molding usually
produces better optics and is responsible for the flatter top which yields
more headroom.

 Mark,
I wasn't there for this photo because it was supposed to be taken after we

2010-04-07 Thread Steve Glover
Hello Netter's,

Well, it is a done deal. We will be at Sun N Fun and will have a booth near
the lake behind building "D". We can use it for a rally point for any
netters in attendance and maybe have that BBQ and get together that was
mentioned a couple weeks ago. There will be a banner with a big red "KR-2S"
on it so it should be easy to find. I'm looking forward to seeing some of
you down there. We will have a few sets of KR-2S plans for sale and a few
parts on display. Joe Horton should be in around Thursday and will have his
plane in our display for anyone wanting a closer look at one fine KR with a
Corvair power plant.

On a side note, if there are any other KR builders or fliers local or
planning on flying in, please contact me off list as I might have an extra
pass in exchange for displaying your plane or project for a few days.

It's a long trek from California but we are excited to be participating this
year and are hoping to bring the KR brand back into the mainstream of
experimental aviation.

KR> VW carburation question

2010-03-18 Thread Steve Glover
If you have a POSA, junk it and get something else. Richard is a master
machinist and has the ability to make the carb safe. Others have just been
lucky or have the ability to make the repairs or adjustments needed. Not
everyone has that aptitude and need something that can be put on and run with
minimal effort. There are a few dead people who would agree they are unsafe.
When the needle vibrates loose and turns to lean out and stop the engine at
altitude, it will be too late to decide trying to save a few bucks was the
wrong decision.

Subject: Re: KR> VW carburation question

There is nothing wrong with the POSA. Most of the stories you will read or
hear on this net are that STORIES. There are several people who fly with
POSA's. Steve Bennett has a plane right now that is Jim Faughn's, and it
flys with a posa. I had an 1835 with a POSA and it worked great. I cruised
@ 125 MPH @ 3.3 gals per hour. I have a POSA on my 2387 VW right now and it
runs well. I do have the Super Posa that I can lean out in the air, but
it's still a Posa. Richard Shirley few with a Posa for years on his KR1.
Just like any other Carb or throtle body, once fine tuned, they run just
great.

Lee Van Dyke

Well now that I am this close to finishing my PPL, it will soon be time
to get working on N1333A. She already has an 1835 VW with a POSA carb on
her, but my EAA tech advisor has encouraged me to look into a float bowl
carb, for various reasons. Great Plains has the 1821 updraft carb and I
have a lot of respect for Steve Bennett's work with the VW based
engine. Any more info that anyone wants to offer on the fuel system?
The floors open, and I will be using all of this to make my decision
soon. Assuming I pass my PPL the 1st time, the VW case will be getting
split open by mid June.

Hello Mike,

I have used a bluetooth Receiver from a NavMan automotive street map
software for a few years now and have been all over the country without
trouble. The prices seem to have come down now and you can pick up the
Garmin for right around $189 - $199. When I replace mine I will buy the
Garmin. It is small and designed for our use. I think the only difference
is the refresh rate in the receiver. Some are every 1 second and some, like
mine, are every two. It is not really that noticeable unless you are
getting into marginal VFR or worse and helps with the comfort level.

As far as exhaust, I had mine exit in a ramp area under the fuselage and had
my exhaust cut flush with my cowl flap at an angle with the airflow. Again,
no noticeable problems after about 320 hours.

2008-10-12 Thread Steve Glover

If starting from scratch, the 1500 watt ceramic heater and duct work can
be had for about $30 total (depending on product availability in your
area) and it too "Works pretty darn good". The heater is a no-brainier
and you can be as creative as you want on the duct work. It is very
safe with no open flames, can be plugged in (both approaches require
electrical service) and left to run continuos if you want. You could
even add a thermostat control to the ceramic heater and place it under
the cowl to keep the engine area at a constant temp 24/7 if you want.

END.

drive, I hate the fiddly key sequences to try and programme in a
frequency, or even to manually set the frequency. When things go
pear-shaped, fiddling with the Icom is not fun !

END>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

I have programmed manually, but I have the software for programming on
the PC. It is a simple task to just type in the freq you want. I use one
bank for local flying, one for a regular route I fly up north, and then
when I am planning a trip like the Gathering, I use one of the other 10
banks of 20 freq's and program in the frequencies along my intended
route. That way, as I am flying I can just have the freq change knob
function selected and it just takes one click to get to my next
frequency enrooted. If I do need to enter a manual freq then I hit the
"Clear" button and the radio goes into manual mode. I can then just
enter the freq desired on the key pad. When I am ready to go back to
the memory channels, it only takes two buttons and 1/2 a second and I am
back on the bank freq's.

Maybe at the next Gathering, some of the attending pilots can
demonstrate their comm's to new or prospective builders so they can have
a first hand experience with some of the different types available.

KR> belly board use - ELECTRIC KIT AVAILABILITY

2008-10-12 Thread Steve Glover
-Original Message-
I am going to add the electric motor control from Van's this winter for
activation.

END.
..

Hello Netter's,

Van's kit is rather expensive at $450+. I could probably put together
the same kit I use on my EZ if anyone is interested. I will be using
the same set up for my new KR. You have your choice of throw distance,
4, 6, or 8 inch. The motors have internal brake and limit switches at
both ends of the range. I currently have mine set up to run from my
stick with a relay.

Cost would probably be around $250 plus shipping for the kit which would
include the drive motor, panel mounted toggle, and the appropriate
shielded wire. The weight of the motor is very light at 2lbs .5oz.
Dynamic load is 110 lbs with 500lbs static. I use the 4" in the EZ speed
brake which is more than adequate.

If using a switch from a stick, it would be cheaper for one to pick up
the relay at radio shack. I can provide model number and wiring
instructions for the relay. Since everyone's mounting point or type
would most likely be different, it would also make more sense for each
to make their own mounting bracket. A couple pieces of angle aluminum
would do the trick. If needed, I could also source these pieces as well
to save time and trouble of getting everything together for your
project.

Please contact me offline.

KR> Radio...

2008-10-12 Thread Steve Glover
Spend the extra money and get the Icom IC-A23. You will be much
happier. I have used mine in the KR all over the USA and never have had
any problems. They have great customer service as well if you do have
any issues. They are very helpful with phone support as well.

Before I bought my 23 and 23 sport, I asked the guys at will call at the
Calif. Spruce what their experience had been. I was told the others are
returned quite a bit more often than the Icom. Just my .02.

-Original Message-
At least for Winter use, I would plumb a tube from the exhaust, maybe
with a valve for shut off, or with an inexpensive thermac vacuum sensor
that responds to temp, directly blowing on the carb to warm it, or duct
the intake air that way full time, just like a car has for cold startup
cold running. Even today alot of fuel injected cars have it. Gotta be a
reason, and this seems like a good reason to me...

END.

Great, let us know when you get it installed and how it works.

Mark, you added carb heat, things got better? Carb ice is my vote. You
said, "As I taxied out the temp was -1°C and the dewpoint was -2°C ".
If you have temp and dewpoint within a 2 to 3 degree spread, carb ice is
likely to occur. Even flying my KR with the Revflow carb, I avoided
flying when this condition existed. I didn't have carb heat, just the
alternate air source to the cowl but didn't want to chance it. I have
flown my KR across country a few times in pretty cold weather without
issue following this rule. (I sure miss that plane. I better hurry and
get my KR-1 finished.)

KR> KR PLans on CD

2008-10-12 Thread Steve Glover
-Original Message-

It is up to RR to get their finger out and stick genuine sets of plans
on CD and make them available via ebay or any other means.

END OF UNINFORMED PEOPLE AGAIN TALKING ABOUT THINGS THEY HAVE NO
KNOWLEDGE OF

Jeanette asked that I didn't go in to detail about certain things,
however, she has done more than some think in this area. I talked to
her tonight and she did say she would not sell a CD due to problems with
pirating, such as what is happening now. Jeanette was in the office most
of today and took several calls. One set of plans are even enroute to
Romania. The KR certainly has become a popular international design due
to the economical method of building. She mentioned she was going to
start spending more time at the office to make sure things are being
taken care of.

There is no question the evolution of the KR and the momentum of our
group has been enhanced by the hard work and willingness to R&D and
document progress by Mark Langford. He has been an inspiration to us
all and has helped us improve the quality of construction of our KR's.
But this subject really has nothing to do with Mark. We should still do
the right thing when it comes to compensating Rand Robinson if plans are
to be purchased new. Re-sale, when someone decides not to build is a
complete different animal and is not inclusive in this discussion. I
will say, and Dana can correct me if I am wrong, Van's charges you for a
registration change of RV plans owners/ builders. Jeanette does not that
I am aware of.

Bottom line is, if you want to build a plane, buy a legal set of plans
or design it yourself. In the end, only you can set the ethics and
integrity level for you. Can you look yourself in the mirror and not be
ashamed at what you see???

KR> evolution of the S - Contacting RR

2008-10-12 Thread Steve Glover
Hello all, yes I am backtoo bad if you don't like it :)

I have been watching some of these posts/ complaints, etc.. It's funny
most say they can never contact Jeanette. I just called this morning
and got her on the first try. We chatted awhile about some of the
"concerns" posted to the net.

Realizing she is basically a one person operation, she clearly cannot
provide the same type of support, say, a company like Zenith with a
hundred or so employees can provide. She does, however, follow up on
the calls and faxes she receives. Maybe just not as quickly as some
would like. For example, The gent from Aussie land complained about a
lack of response. Keep in mind we just had the KR Gathering in
Illinois. I believe his contact attempts were during this period.
Jeanette and her daughter attend regularly as they like being a part of
this event and it also gives her the opportunity to combine this event
with visiting family and friends from back east. The reason there has
been no response as of late is after the Gathering, Jeanette spent time
with family and then traveled the southern states with friends from
college. Today was her first day back in the office and she was busy
going through all the phone messages and faxes.

All faxes/ orders are taken care of and I would think anyone would be
hard pressed to prove they had never received an order or what was paid
for. Calls are returned as possible. Some leave disconnected numbers.
Some just don't answer. Are you able to always contact those whom you
call? I'm not saying RR or Jeanette is perfect by any means, none of us
are, but she does do a lot for being one person.

I asked about the KR2S evolution. There were 4 people involved in the
development. It was, in fact, a market driven change as people were
wanting more headroom/ legroom, etc and were already making their own
changes. She wanted to make sure the changes were safe for people and
of course for liability concerns. The KR2S was NOT a complete redesign.
The things that were changed, IE: firewall, tail, aluminum gear were all
designed and then a stress analysis performed. Kevin Kelly of KR-100
fame, who is an engineering architect, is the one who worked on the
design change for the firewall and gear. Roy Marsh's plane was used for
tooling of the 2S. He was a military pilot and performed all the flight
testing on the changes. The stress analysis was performed by Bill
Marcy(sp?). He has a firm which specializes in these type of
calculations. Rick Henson made all the tooling, plugs, and molds for
the 2S and new canopy design. While Lance has helped out for a number of
years before he started Lancair, he was not involved.

I found out an interesting thing about the wing skins and why the cost
difference. I am not really interested in hearing about if this is right
or wrong from our resident experts (and you know who you are) so don't
bother. Dan D's wing skins are a foam core with vinylester resin. This
is similar to the Glasair style wings. RR wing skins are actually a
honeycomb core with epoxy prepreg. They are also vacuum bagged but then
cured in an autoclave, similar to the Lancair style wings. The process
and materials are apparently a bit more costly.

On the contact front, if there is anyone from outside the states who
would like to order or contact RR, Jeanette has authorized me to accept
e-mails for her and then I will ensure she receives the information.

Hopefully this ends any speculation on the above subject. Feel free to
contact me if you have any questions, and please, do it direct so as not
to waste bandwidth on the net...

I tend to LEARN from these discussions. I'd like to thank the posters

Scott,

You can LEARN all you want by reading the previous e-mail. It is just
plain lazy and inconsiderate to leave all that junk on each consecutive
email, not to mention it screws up the search archives when someone
really does need to find something. One has too wade through a ton of
this crap to find their answer. When the answer becomes too difficult to
find, then the question pops back up on the net for all to see AGAIN.

I don't think POSTING a question here was Bob's point, I think it was
more of have a little consideration for others by editing your post
before sending it. It really is not that difficult. Some people do not
have the bandwidth to download all these redundant posts. Have I been
guilty of this in the past? You bet. Now I make sure I take the extra
5 SECONDS it takes to delete the previous dissertations with maybe the
exception of the key points I would like to respond to.

No additional posts or response on this matter needed. Just pay
attention to what you (read all) are doing. Like Mark L. has said
numerous time, (hundreds of times I'm sure), before you hit the send
key, evaluate whether 600 other people need to see or care about what
you are sending. If it a trivial response like "me too" or some other
great response, SEND IT DIRECT! Don't waste the space on the net. Do I
have a delete key? Yeah. Do I know how to use it? Maybe. Should I have
to wade through a bunch of junk to find any useful info or just a "me
too" response in a 2 page e-mail? Absolutely NOT.

I think it was Dana who said, "let's just play nice in the sandbox and
get back to building KR's".

impeding the ability to effectively search for information regarding
building KR's or even assisting people to download any USEFUL
information from the KR net that have slow internet connections (IE:
dial-up). By the way, have you actually built a KR or finished a
project? You clearly are some type of engineer. You apparently
purchased a project, what's the status? I see in some of your 93 posts
to the KR net you recommend changing the airfoil to the VK-30 wing. Are
you doing this on your own project??? It is easy to tell others what
they should do when it isn't your life on the line making the changes.
But of course YOU already know that because YOU know ALL, don't you?
Honestly, you are one of the ones who seem to love the "Me Too" type

Is there any chance we could keep the political statements off the
list... I'm betting not everyone on the list is a non-democrat. Some
might even have a "bleeding heart." Your note implies, no it states so
directly, that such memebers are the root cause of societies problems. I
really respect this list and all the incredibly valuable insights

comment offends me. Given the member size and diversity of the list, I

I bought a KR2 project. I even went so far as to buy it on Ebay.

To the best of my review of the sketchy documentation I am the forth in
a
line of KR builders to "attempt" to build this project. So I missed
that three
is a charm thing.

I originally planned on building either a KR or a FlyBaby and I have
already
purchased the plans for the Flybaby but the Ebay offer appeared to be a
good
deal and I went for it.

Now I am the proud owner of: A boat with stub spars, wing spars, horz
&
vert stabs Diel glass wing covers and main gear, coweling amd turtle
deck and a
corvair.(I was planning an a corvair in the Flybaby). Other than the
wing
skins no glass has been done and very little foam.

I am in the process of inventorying what I have and making room in the
workshop to "build my plane" The workshop is full of the typical stuff
and there
is no where to even start to build.

My plan is a "roomy" 1 place cruiser or a "tight" 2 place fun machine.

KR> Anti junk/disabled anything laws LONG

2008-10-12 Thread Steve Glover
Well Colin, you are certainly entitled to your opinion. Mine is that
laws such as this is where we all have had our rights or civil liberties
encroached upon. Where are my rights when I cannot utilize my own
property, that I have paid for, for my entertainment or enjoyment as
long as I do not cause damage or harm to anyone. One could argue they
are "damaged" from having to view my plane. In that case I could give a
rats and they should close the curtain or get a life. I whole heartedly
agree that there is a limit to what one could/ should do in public view.
Your statement regarding abandoned or junk cars, etc. within a city
limit or neighborhood certainly would affect property values and
therefore damaging to others. But something like building a car,
aircraft, boat, or other constructive like hobby does not fall into this
category as long as the property in public view is maintained and not
used as a junk yard.

This type of abuse of the political system is indicative of how liberal
our society has become in regards to the bleeding hearts or Democrats
who are, in my opinion the root cause of why our society has declined so
markedly in moral and ethical conviction. They must all be members of
the ACLU or any of these other organizations who think everybody owes
them something and will file a law suit just because they can. I also
have been on the enforcement side but there is a Reasonable Man's rule
that must apply. The problem is, there are very few reasonable men in
the political arena.

I ordinarily abstain from this type of discussion on the net as it is a
waste of my time. However, this particular type of abuse of the system
irritates the fire out of me.

This is not a flame toward you Colin, just my opinion. Now Back to KR
stuff, we have better things to do.

Netters
Unfortunately I have to agree with the local jurisdiction on their
decision to prohibit the repair and construction of cars, trucks, and
now light aircraft outside of a building and the storage of such items
in side or backyards, regardless of its intended use.

In cities like Jacksonville, where it is already a severe problem that
vehicles of all kinds find "themselves" first parked and then later,
parted out as "project" cars or trucks, to open up the possibility of
someone finding a loop hole to exploit, so that now they can have a auto
repair shop in their back yard, or driveway, due to undefined "projects"
present, would end up a massive problem for all residential property
owners. My old subdivision was governed by the City of Sanford Florida.
They had a city ordinance that no repairs to any automobile, truck, or
"vehicle" including trailers, could be accomplished in the open in your
driveway. Any repairs desired could be accomplished inside an enclosed
garage or out building, to include project car restorations, and
specifically my airplane in my single car garage. They knew about my
plane, and openly stated that as long as it was never stored outside, or
that repairs and construction were conducted inside the garage, that I
was fine and within the law. They KNEW it would or could take years to
finish; that was okay.

By prohibiting the storage of parts of anything, planes or cars, or
machines, in the opne side or back yards, or in the driveways of
residential homes is nothing more than legislation that protects home
owner values. When it is inside your garage, out of sight from your
neighbor, and they want to interfere, it is a violation of your civil
rights. When your neighbor can see it, and can find it an eye sore, even
if it is not one, then you are encroaching on your neighbor's rights.
You might not like him storing a sign promoting Gay Rights propped
against the side of his house, facing yours. To him, he might find your
partially assembled plane peeking out from under a cover, just as
offensive.

WE HAVE TO UNDERSTAND that many people DO NOT share our passion for
flying, nor do they understand our commitment to its enjoyment. We
already have too many pilots who beligerently assert their right to fly,
even though they have been asked to conduct such operations with noise
abatement, but disregard this request saying it is their right to fly!
Years later the airport is shut down because there is only several
hundred pilot votes to remain open, compared to many thousands non-pilot
votes to close the airport.

Like it or not, these are our neighbors. We have to find a way to
compromise, or solos like the one that just happened are going to
gradually become less and less frequent. They will just lock us out of
their airspace, and then who knows what next

Sorry abo

KR> the IN-Crowd plus NEW Family Memeber

2008-10-12 Thread Steve Glover
Dan, tell me your kidding... the Corvair is great but after all your
hard work, you gotta at least fly it with the VW. Once your Corvair is
completed and you have all your components, then do the change over. But
come on man...you gotta fly that thing! :)

I flew the KR for a couple hours today. I have kinda neglected it a bit
since I got the Long-EZ flying. A friend from the USMC brought his kids
up for a ride. The completely enjoyed it and want to do it again. I
sure will miss this plane.

Speaking of missing the KR, we have a new KR family member. N902G was
purchased from the current owner by Paul Russell out of Fort Scott,
Kansas. I will be delivering the KR and will meet Lee Van Dyke in
Phoenix on the 20th on my trip. We will be flying to together up into
Kansas before he continues on to OSH and I make the final leg to
Pittsburg, KS to 02G's new home.

I will still see everyone at the Gathering but will be in the EZ this
time. I'll be competing for the ugliest plane award. The EZ is still
pretty rough from going through the flood but at least she is flyable.
Richard Shirley and I will make the trek together again this year.

I must say, there have most likely been a lot more failures on the VW

really move along. My point with Dan was that I can't wait to see him

KR> another report on John Monday

2008-10-12 Thread Steve Glover
Original Message -

I too was shocked to see that he had to sell his KR2. The information
that Mark said, that John wanted to be at the gathering this year was
not just for the KR, it was also for all the friends that he had met at
the gathering. He was a good guy and will be missed by many. God speed
John.

END

I went to the memorial service on Sunday for John and Chris and had the
opportunity to speak with John's wife and family. She told me she is
the one who prompted John to get the new plane so he could fly now
instead of waiting to finish the KR. She said he loved to fly and would
always be working like a mad man or dreaming of new ideas for his KR
project. She also said he was getting in some practice for the trip to
the Gathering this year.

I let her know John also had his extended family in the KR net and that
he would be sorely missed. She seemed surprised that some had recently
been in contact with John to make sure he showed this year and that he
mattered so much to so many. I extended our condolences on behalf of the
KR family.

After the service a few of the guys in Waco's and Stearman's did a
missing man formation and then I made a pass in the KR for John and his
family.

I don't now what was going on Sunday but I think every nut case around
was trying to fly into Corona. The other formation and I were cut off
several times while attempting our passes by people not paying attention
or just inconsiderate. Unfortunately, a guy who forced his way into the
pattern landed and then retracted his gear instead of flaps on roll out.
The plane dumped right next to the observation deck where John and
Chris's families were. Go figure the plane was a "V" tail Bonanza like
John's. I am told John's wife was considerably shaken by this.

I ended up having to orbit the airport for about 1.4 hours while the
runway was cleared and the FAA reopened the field. What a day... :(

Stay safe.

Hi Lee,

I'm doing well. It sounds like you are still having a great time
flying. I had a set back on the EZ. It looks like a new cowl and
exhaust is in order. I will still make the Gathering with Rich Shirley
and his new speed demon, it just won't be pretty.

Speaking of Rich, everyone better stand by, he is smoking faster than he
ever was before. It is scary. Once I have the EZ flying, the
fabrication of the new KR structure begins for me. I have a number of
sub-assemblies and components built/ designed already so I am hoping the
process goes quickly. I have the garage/ shop geared up for production
with a metal lathe, Bridgeport mill, Tig welder, and a few other goodies
to help with the production schedule. By the way, if there are any
builders, (read Active and Productive), out there who needs something
machined up, I wouldn't mind helping out if it not too major of a
project.

Lee, I still have the KR believe it or not so we should still meet
somewhere in the middle for breakfast or lunch. I hope all is well on
your end.

And for you builders out there, you really need to get on it. I still

KR> handheld radio

2008-10-12 Thread Steve Glover
I have flown my KR across country a few times with a Icom A-5. It is
one of the smallest handhelds out there. It works awesome and you can
program 10 banks of 20 freq's through your PC for your route. Then it
becomes one click to change to the next freq enroute. I have never used
any type of booster but have talked to people at 100 miles. On one trip
home from the Gathering, Richard Shirley was in Tennessee and I was
coming from Alabama to meet in Red Oak, Arkansas. We were both an hour
out and able to communicate.

For the money and performance. I like the handheld. If I did install a
panel com, the Becker would be my first choice for the size of our
planes. The microair seems to be ok as well and is less expensive that
the Becker.

The Transponder gives you more options if you are flying and distances.
Again, one of the small Becker or Microair would be good. I have (had)
the Trimble/ Terra TXN 200D. Good unit but no longer in production and
hard to have repaired reasonably.

2008-10-12 Thread Steve Glover
Netters,

I just received a email from the owner of N902G. Family issues may be
forcing him to put 902G back on the block for sale. I still have the KR
and keep her fit and exercised. If interested, let me know off line as
I might be facilitating the sale to the new owner...

KR> KR-2 Embroidery Logo

2008-10-12 Thread Steve Glover
Hello Netter's,

I have received a number of requests for the digitized file for the logo
on the seats of my KR. I have two sizes of logos. One is for shirts/
hats, and one is for the seats. There are two different digitized
formats so companies who use different types of machines can embroider
the logos. The colors can be changed by your shop to reflect your
aircraft colors if you wish.
Because of how much time I have invested as well as money for the
digitizing, I provide the files for a small fee of $10.00. I send the
files on a cd for you to take the shop of your choice.

KR> slipping / crabbing

2008-10-12 Thread Steve Glover
I say we get Mark L. to R&D us a new set of gear that tracks down the
runway heading no matter what the wind direction is just like the

KR> Harbor freight digital dial calipers

2008-10-12 Thread Steve Glover
I have sold the plane, fortunately for me the new owner has not had a
chance to come get it. He's going to be in the Bay area this week so I
may fly up to Livermore to show him his new bird. From there I will head
on up north and visit a few friends back home.

I have decided not to buy anything and just get my LongEZ back together.
I am hoping to have it going for the trip to the Gathering this year
with Rich Shirley. Once it is flying, I'll be starting on the new KR. I
actually have already been building parts for the gear, etc.

I am actually at Corona and plan on staying there unless it floods
again. I just moved to a larger hangar for my projects.

  Thanks Steve,

How's the sale of your plane going? I was happy for you that you sold
it, while at the same time kinda bummed that you wouldn't have that
pretty little bird at Chino for me to come look at now and then.

Are you still keeping your hanger at Chino? I though I read you were
looking for a new plane?

Come on guys, you know Richard can't do anything as traditional such as
buying his gear. Like his valve covers, I believe he made his own. I'll
ask him to make sure and let you know.

By the way, his new motor came to life a couple days ago and sure sounds
sweet. He may have the KR back to the airport this weekend for test
flights.

Maybe I missed part of a conversation or something...
I don't have my "plans" in front of me, but from what I recall the
stock KR-1 fuselage is only about 19" wide on the inside,
 not 38.75".

Don't know about his gear.. Steve Glover may know off the top of his
head.

There is a lot of talk about how narrow this cockpit is but when I look

Anyone know what gear Richard Shirly has on his KR1 ?

RE: Réf. : KR> buying KR plans

2008-10-12 Thread Steve Glover
Hello All,

After seeing a number of posts berating RR (again), I thought I would
give her a call. I received a phone call back this morning from
Jeannette. She had been out of town for over a week due to a family
emergency and just got back. She was busy catching up on
orders/inquiries, to include the 2 from South Africa.

Just so everyone knows, she is in the office from about 9:30 AM to 2 PM
daily Pacific Time. She does take her grand kids to school and picks
them up daily so is gone intermittently during those hours. I don't
think I have ever had a problem contacting RR or had not received a call
back.

As far as ordering plans, she said the prices are on the net. (I have
not verified this) If one cannot speak with her directly but sends the
amount indicated, a set of plans will be sent out.
