Hi All, I know we all like to share or download free patterns over the internet. I have noticed that they do not always come across to the scale sent. I have an idea that might help stop the madness. I began putting a 1 inch scale line on the pricking before sending so the recipient can tell if the pricking is to scale after printing. Thread size is great but not all off are experienced enough to tell if the scaling is correct. Just my thoughts I thought I would pass on. Sorry folks, one more clarification of the pattern raffle/drawing. What is on offer is two separate pattern sheets only, not a booklet (that is what I bought for me which is what gave me the duplicate patterns). So whoevers names, and there will be two, are drawn out in about 10 days time will be sent one pattern sheet each. [lace] lace pattern raffle
A couple of people have asked if I will post my raffle internationally and the answer is yes. I now have 19 names in the pot so far but will drawer it on the 11th April. We were on our way to visit my very sick aunt who is in a care home close by so didn't do more than a quite look around the museum, but my DH was fascinated by the very old sewn samplers dated in the 1700s and sewn by 9 and 10 year olds. Also they had a fantastic beaded design covered box which we both drolled over. They had several figures (dummies) sitting at lace pillows which I will have a better look at next time I manage to go. Also a case of beautiful fans are on display. I was born in the town and lived there for 28 years but I dont think they had the collection there then. I looked on the website you specified for lace patterns http://www.kloeppelwerkstatt.de/ I emailed them about how to order and pay for patterns, but have not had a response from them yet. However, it also stated that their patterns are availble at the Kantcentrum in Belgium, so I emailed them, and had a response which translated into English says: Dear madam, Many of these patterns can indeed be ordered from us. Just quote the order number for the particular pattern, plus a description of the pattern. We will then deal with your order and will let you know how much the postal charges to your country will be. Regards, Anne They did not respond about my question of how to pay for them, but their website does state that they accept VISA. Hope this helps. The Emperor's Crown is a traditional Danish pattern. A member of our group in New Jersey was able to obtain a free copy by writing to some address in Denmark, possibly the Danish tourist board. But this was many years ago. Prickings and diagrams may also be sold by some commercial entities. Greetings, A box of lace books and papers were given to our lace guild from an estate. I had the assignment to go through it to see what was there. Part of it had come originally from a second estate so it has remnants from two lacemakers. One thing I turned up was the draft copies of two Torchon patterns. One seemed ready to test, and was signed and dated. The other one - that is the problem. It is not signed so I'm not sure which of the two lacemakers drafted it. However it has a title. This led me to wonder if it was a pricking draft from a pattern in a book -- before the days of the copy machine. The title is "Emperor's Crown". It is Torchon, with the headside made of narrow scalloped fans assembled in clusters to make a larger scallop. There are four spiders per repeat with a large center diamond of either roseground or honeycomb surrounded by a diamond trail of either cloth stitch or half stitch. Does this sound like anything you have in an older book - probably in the 70's or 80's? Being titled like that made me think it could be a copy of an existing pattern. With further study, it seems to have one section that is not drawn in a do-able manner. Some thread pairs go two directions at once. That's a perfectly acceptable way to make lace edgings for hankies, and looks nice. Another heart pattern, if you know point ground, is Danish hearts. There are Tonder versions and Bucks versions, and they're all just a tad different from each other. Many have the gimp go around the heart and then be the worker for the fan, so a white gimp with red threads would produce red hearts and white scallops. Again, just make extra and gather the edges. To calculate how much extra you need, each corner takes twice the width of the lace. In other words, a 1-inch lace needs 2 extra inches for each corner, or 8 extra inches. Or make 9 extra inches and you won't have to fuss carefully with the corners. A little extra gathering at the corners won't show and guarantees enough lace even if the fabric's just a tad off from what you calculated. Robin P. Help is needed. My great Aunt has asked me to make her a handkerchief with a lace edge. She wants one with red hearts and scallop white edging. I have tried to create the pattern myself from a pattern that I found for a round doily but I have not been able to create the corners. Now, I am running out of time and need to find a pattern. I am a beginning lace maker and have not learned to figure out how to make the lace without instructions. Hello Alice and All, When I did the Crucifixion earlier this year I bought a piece of styrofoam which when cut in half was 23 1/2" square. A friend's husband mace a base for it and I made extra "pillow pieces" - in thirds, the outside thirds in one piece and the middle one in three sections. Being a quilter as well I had a supply of wool wadding to put on top of the foam (actually did both sides), then covered each piece with homespun. Working the 92 pair picture I also used extra cloths to separate bunches of bobbins and 10 stitch holders used by knitters. I made a cover/bag out of denim with buttons up the sides and top, and put pieces of denim down the sides which are tied together with ribbon over the covered work in progress before bringing the other half up and buttoning it all together. I put the finest wadding between the denim and the lining and handle - which is in one "circular" piece attached to the outside of the bag. At the moment I have a 4 1/2" edge in progress (from Lace for Church use), and have the "thirds" pillows in the base. If I manage to work several pieces on each side of each "pillow" it will have been worth. I have Eeva-Liisa's "Thanking" and "Woman at the Well" patterns and also hope to do the "Guardian Angel on the Bridge" at some time in the future. Hi Rose-Marie, The nice thing about Eeva-Liisa's patterns is that they work. You might have to do a bit of puzzling at times but generally speaking all the information you need is right there on the pricking. One exception to that is on the Good Shepherd picture where there is a special diagram to explain how to get 'wooly' sheep. I have worked that one and it turned out well. I agree with the person who said that you need a large pillow, (flat). These are big patterns.
