Air-Conditioned, the way ours are?

I try not to spend longer in stores than necessary! And yes they often are
over-air-conditioned, but you still have to melt getting from the car into
the store. I find I very rarely need a jacket from June to October

Sue, your jacket is the most stunning thing I've seen in a very long
time!! Your perfect balance of elements in the design is just
incredible!! I'm impressed with your lace, with your construction of
the jacket, with your sense of color, and your expert use of
materials!! WOW!!!

So where will you be seen in this stunning creation?

Thank you for the compliments. There are things I'd do differently if I ever
re-did it, but it's good to learn from a piece too!

Where will I wear it? I'm shameless! If I kept it for best, I'd hardly ever
wear it, so I will wear it to the shops, church, NeedleArts Guild meetings,
going for a walk wherever.

I now have three jackets with lace on and I enjoy wearing them out and
about. They're all lined with fleece so are nice and cosy for Chicago cooler
weather. Totally unsuitable for summer. I thought about not lining it and
wearing it in the summer, but my preferred summer clothing here is
sleeveless!

Fw: [lace] long lace report (short)

2006-03-29 Thread Sue

Hi Bev,
I am also making a garter, but am making 2 narrow strips of lace, I am also
about 3/4 way through the lacework. It is steady progress when the cat
doesn't insist on taking over my lap for the evenings.
I have managed to take a little afternoon time out to try preparing for and
trying to work the first of milanese braids, although not as much time as I
would like yet. From being a steady recovery time we seem now to be having
to make up for all the time I lost recooperating. Never mind, I will get on
with it.

You've been making so many 12 inch (30 cm) pieces lately, I'm sure that's

I made one strip and then changed to do something smaller and different and
then go back to do the other one. Saves on the bordom factor.

Re: [lace] long lace/garters

Hi Irene and everyone

goodie, lots of people making long laces, and some of us into garters!
I am greatly encouraged. The 25 cm. that are on the pillow as of last
night are still 25 cm. this morning (no garter elves?) but I'm pumped,
the next 5 cm. will be fun. Yes Irene I promise to keep going.. The
wedding is early August, but I hope to present the garter to the
bride-to-be at a family shower, when all the female relatives will ooh
and aah appreciatively, I do so hope. It will be the only time the
garter can be examined closely by an audience I rather think.

These garters are beautiful, but a lot of work.

I wasn't so sure of the beauty until I threaded ribbon through it
after reading Lynn's message. wow, what a difference. Gathered, it was
so pretty. And from my own hands. This is why we make lace :)

Do we have anyone else making a garter right now?

Jenny wrote:

No fair! LOL
But you will enjoy making it. I'm liking my pattern now that I've seen
it with the ribbon through it.
I need to work on it now, rather than talk about it - at some point
I'll take a picture and post it somewhere for y'all to have a look :)

[lace] Long lace

2006-02-24 Thread Diane Williams
I currently have a narrow edging on my travel pillow
that I'm trying to grow after cutting 1.5 yards off
for a friend's birthday present. I left myself about
8 inches on the pillow and it is about 18 inches now
after a week of working on it. I like doing edgings,
even when I have no project in mind to use them for.
I am contemplating starting a wide edging in either 's
Gravenmoer or Ipswich just for something more
challenging to think about.

Two recent accomplishments - a bracelet in 's
Gravenmoer and a Schneeberger swan. The swan has been
on the pillow for over a year and even though I didn't
need the pillow right now I set myself to finishing
it. It's difficult to switch my hands from a point
ground edging using 140 to a tape lace using tatting
cotton! The bracelet I absolutely love. It's the one
I started during our virtual lace day. I used wire
for the outside edge gimp and it holds a nice shape
while I'm wearing it. Hopefully one of these days
I'll get a photo of it posted.

Doing some travelling this weekend, so I need to grab
a tatting project to take along. Probably another
bookmark for my stash. I give them away as soon as I
get them made!

Have a wonderful weekend everyone.

Hi All,

I am about to take Edging 27 from Lace for Church Use off the pillow and
mount it on fabric for my local church at Easter. It is about 70 long.

The pillow is a custom made square one which my friend's husband made a base
for when I did Eeva-Lisa's Cricifixion a couple of years ago. Took Pat
Milne (attended a couple of her workshops)'s advice and made multiple blocks
- a square (23 x 23) single one, and thirds - one piece on the outside and
blocks in the centre for moving up lace. Well worth the effort, and because
I did it all at the beginning it is actually done.

I am going to start another Eeva-Lisaa picture when it comes off - The
Guardian Angel.

I have another piece of torchon on a roller pillow and will need 5m + to
make a Christening Dress. It will probably get finished for a grandchild.
My first grandchild is being Baptised next weekend in Windsor Ontario and
will be wearing the outfit I made for her mother 32 years ago!

[lace] Long Lace

2006-02-24 Thread Elizabeth Ligeti
Yes, I am making a yard+ of lace - a Table Ribbon for the IOLI competition -
If I ever get it finished

I seem to be getting too many interruptions lately!

Regards from Liz in Melbourne, Oz Where we have had a spell of Hot humid
weather, with heavy rain this afternoon - at
last. We are hoping for more rain overnight.
