Re: [LU] Question

2019-04-29 Thread Tim Leslie
Definite lack of a finisher. I harped on about it in December, that we
should have got Jermain Defoe in on loan, just to throw on for half an
hour if we weren't getting goals. It seemed (to me) THE most sensible
option, and I stick by the theory that he would have bagged us goals.

The other thing that has pissed me off all season is our inability to
keep a clean sheet. Sheff Utd, at home, were a pub team, but a very well
organised one. Had we scored early on, I genuinely think we'd have got
3. But we didn't, and yet again we have the ability to switch off,
against average teams, and concede. What have they done in 2019? Kept
FOURTEEN clean sheets! And fair play to them for that, we've kept 6!

I think Bielsa is brilliant and has done an amazing job with average
players, but this is Leeds United and we just know we WON'T win the play
offs! I think Bielsa's weak point is it's his way or the highway and
whilst he is, unquestionably, a genius of a coach - His stubbornness (Or
possibly the clubs lack of willingness to spend?) meant we didn't get
The Daniel James and a Defoe type in to boost us, when we all saw it was
starting to wobble.

Saving grace to me is the dichotomy of promotion to the premier league v
staying in the championship. What is there to look forward to for
Norwich and Sheff Utd next season now? At best 15th/16th/17th? More
likely bottom 3 and defeat after defeat after defeat! Or a Championship
season of more wins than defeats, an enthused crowd and something to
look forward to every weekend! Maybe this IS the best league in the
World!

I don't know what's happened to Pablo - but at the end of the day he's
34 and since his early days at Valencia he hasn't exactly excelled.
So maybe the chink in his armour is not being able to handle pressure
like we've seen at the end of this season?

Re: [LU] Question

2019-04-28 Thread nigel
I never said anything about him specifically scoring goals. Merely that he had
become our only player with the vision to unlock stacked defences, and that he
has sadly lost that ability towards the end of the season. So we as a team are
now clueless at how to create a scoring chance.

Pablo is a midfield player. His primary task is not goal scoring. Nevertheless
he has carried us to victory in several recent games.

He is our player of the season by a fucking mile.

2019-04-28 Thread Nick Allen
Pablo is a midfield player. His primary task is not goal scoring. Nevertheless
he has carried us to victory in several recent games.

He is our player of the season by a fucking mile.

Re: [LU] Question

2019-04-28 Thread nigel
It has been a season and a half, certainly. But today's game was (apart from
the 5 minutes of mayhem) exactly like all the others in recent times - we are
toothless in front of goal to a degree that would be hilarious if it wasn't us.

I think that the problem boils down to a simple lack of vision in our mostly
average players. Once Saiz left and Alioski and Hernandez mystifyingly lost
their vision and ability to pass, we have been left with nothing but a "pass to
a white shirt" mentality, which sure gives us a lot of possession, but achieves
nothing in front of goal.

I don't know what's happened to Pablo - but at the end of the day he's 34 and
since his early days at Valencia he hasn't exactly excelled. So maybe the
chink in his armour is not being able to handle pressure like we've seen at the
end of this season?

What a season so far!

Adore Bielsa, what he's done with our mediocre bunch! The football we've
played. His philosophies, behaviour and manner.

Love the attitude of the players, willing to learn, to work, to will and
believe.

Love that I've been able to watch every game on my TV.

My question.why are we so 'inefficient' and how can we become more
efficient?

Is it the quality of the front men?
Or the service they are getting?
Are we too good? (so many teams just parking the bus) Are we too predictable?
Don't we know how to unpick a packed defence?

anyone know, preferably with a reliable source? Cheers John

Re: [LU] question

2014-09-04 Thread Kevin Lewis (UK SBS)
R. Austin (7)
M. Tonge (5)
S. Byram, D. Norris (4)
S. Morison, L. Murphy, S. Warnock (3)

Any odds around on who will be first to 10 then, including anyone not yet on
that list?
Or do we think that no-one in the current squad will ever get 10 goals for
Leeds? :)

My money would be on Sharp, because he has a month's start on Doukara (although
1 goal behind)
Of course if Austin or Tonge stay in the side and start taking the penalties
they may be the favourites.

yes, cheers Dave, that was exactly the question - as to "relevance" Andy - none
at all - just wondered is all

As to Taylor being the second longest serving team member, my mate came to last
w/es game...and was there on Taylor's debut...for him he's been an everpresent
for the last 3 years...!

I asked my old man (who's sadly no longer with us) about this a few years

that Real Madrid team were, so it was seen as very exotic.

Subject: [LU] Question for oldies re kit

In our pre match discussions yesterday about the (possible) new owner the
question of the Hull bloke changing the name to Hull Tigers and then Tan at
Cardiff changing the kit from blue to red was discussed That led us on to
what is now part of Leeds folklore and part of the Revie legend when he
changed the colour of the kit to look like Real Madrid the then best side in
the world

We now talk of it proudly etc and make out as if it were a master stroke -
however none of my mates  were old enough to remember him doing it and we
wondered what the fans thought of it at the time ?
Were there mass demonstrations and arguments against it with angry fans
refusing to accept the new kit or was it met with apathy, in that it does
not matter especially in the days pre replica kits being worn by all and

I asked my old man (who's sadly no longer with us) about this a few years

We now talk of it proudly etc and make out as if it were a master stroke -

[LU] NON LU: Question of Language

2013-04-05 Thread N If
I noticed the expression "Did they hell as like" in that WHU fan's piece
that Dr Mike posted. It's something I'd always thought was hellus, or
hellers like, being an emphasised form of hell.
"as like" (akin to 'as if'?) sounds a bit modern for us to have been using
in the Revie days, as we did, like.

And another oldie I never understood was what my young ears on the gelderd
end heard as "and if we catch you wacking, we'll saw your legs right off".
Wacking? Anyone care to educate me 40 years on?

Anyway.

My tuppeny worth:
I haven't a clue who I want, but I know I don't want another twenty
signings (loan or otherwise) replacing like with like.
I'd like the owners to realise that good feeling emanating from the pitch
will achieve whatever goals they have, and to be sensibly advised how to
make that occur.

Love

Two questions Michael... ?

1. Who would have to pay that fine or punishment?

The person(s) responsible for committing the illegal act, if there was one,
and Leeds United (points deduction)
I'd imagine it to be a situation alike to buying a second-hand car and then
being held legally responsible for the hit-run collision that was
perpetrated by the previous owner before you bought the car.

2. is it possible to avoid disclosing previous erroneous
disclosures and still sell without jeopardising the future owner?

No, not where HMRC is concerned, and especially if meant to obtain something
by deception :)

But, there's lots of List legal eagle types out there much better qualified
than me to answer your question(s)

At a later date it became apparent that previous disclosures and

Who would have to pay that fine or punishment?
Or put another way is it possible to avoid disclosing previous erroneous

Only similar example I can think of is Luton Town who were deducted 10
points and fined £50k for making irregular payments to agents, despite
arguing that the old owners were responsible.

We are officially under new ownership anyway. Cuddly Ken bought us from FSF
last summer.

[LU] Question for ref on the list or anyone else re throw in

2011-01-20 Thread DAVID NATTAN
Towards the end of the game last night we got a throw in on the edge of the 6yd
box. Bromby, our long throw man ,tried to take it from the edge of the area
(probably so he could take a run up from the gap in the advertising hoarding /
steps)  but the ref made him move it forward to where the ball went out.
I thought that as long as you did not pinch yards / take it from further
forward you could basically take a throw in from anywhere ?
Or is it just that normally you are trying to gain an unfair advantage when
taking it further forward. whereas generally it makes no difference when you
take it further back, and so refs turn a blind eye ?
I think that the ref on Sat did something similar and made one of ours take the
throw from where it went out rather than 5yds further back but I don't recall
it happening before

[LU] Question for the stattos

2010-12-23 Thread Damian Walsh
Does anyone know how the average age of our team/ squad compares to the rest
of the division? Many of our key players are in their early 20s and it's
only O'Brien that springs to mind as being in his 30s.

I think that most teams going for promotion over the years have tended to
build around one or two experienced "older" players (Revie's Collins and
Wilko's Strachan spring immediately to mind). For this afternoon's
should-be-down-the-pub musing I'm alternating between the hope of a
long-lasting improving team and the fear of richer clubs coming in to try
and get our players.

You can't commit an offside offence from a goal kick, corner kick or a throw
in. As soon as it's played OR touched by a member of your team from the goal
kick, corner kick or throw in AND you are in an offside position when they play
or touch it, then you commit an offside offence.
