[LegacyUG] Error Individual # not found

2014-06-28 Thread Steve
I have just restarted my research after a short break and am using V8.0.0.427,
which I updated yesterday.
When I go to the chronology tab I get and several error messages “individual #
no found”; only for some people not all, and the number is too high for my
database i.e. there is no person attached to that number.
I have run check/repair and renumbered RINs/MRINS. I have gone back to
previous backups, converted a file from V7, and tested the sample file, all
with the same results. Anybody else seeing this?
Regards
Steve

[LegacyUG] Family Group record report

2014-06-28 Thread Jo Poi

In a Family Group record report, a few questions,
1... why is it necessary to have to tick the Report
Options/Pictures/Event pictures and Shared event Pictures every time
that I do a report, why does Legacy not save the choice as it does
with the other options ?

2... why when having made the choice as above in the preview the
first entry of the marriage events always has the picture in a box
above the box of the first event, but all following events have their
picture in the same entry ?

Is this one, two or nil bugs to add to the programmers list ?

Steve,

This is a known issue that appeared with the .427 build. The fix will appear
in a future update but I can't tell you exactly when that will be. In the
meantime, you can click through the error and the Chronology View works just
fine.

Priscilla,

On the main toolbar go to VIEW SPLIT SCREEN. You will get a message asking
you if you want to open a different family file in the new window, put Yes and
then pick the second file.

To learn more about the split screen option, go to HELP HELP INDEX and then
type in SPLIT SCREEN.

Is there a way to have two Legacy family trees open at once on my computer? I
have a number of family trees and would like to have two open at once -- side
by side -- on my screen. I realize that having more than one tree is not what
many of you do, but that's the way it is here -- at this point, anyway -- and
has been working well. I was able to do that with my previous software, but
cannot figure out yet with Legacy.

   Thanks,

I have loaded Legacy8 Deluxe from disk to a laptop for use in an upcoming

First re-install 7 to get an INSTALL.LOG file back, then go to the
program file and find unwise.exe and click on it. Then do what Michelle says.

Sherry,

If you could get your mail software changed so people can select Reply
All and have the To include the individual's e- mail address it might
help reduce off topic discussions. I use the Thunderbird program and
must use the Forward option then copy and paste the individual's
address into the To field to reply to people off list.

People would still need to delete the list address from the To field.

[LegacyUG] Legacy web pages alternative

2014-06-28 Thread Alex MacPhee
Perhaps others have had this issue, and may be able to offer suggestions.
I've used Legacy for many years now, and used the web pages creation feature to
produce a set of HTML pages that I sent to my webspace so that those
interested, like my extended family, could browse the latest information.
Although my own web presence is via a content-management system (Wordpress), I
had a page there which had a simple clickable link that would take the viewer
out to the webspace allocated to me by my ISP, where the Legacy-generated pages
could be displayed and navigated in the old-fashioned way. My ISP has since (in
common with a number of others) abandoned webspace provision, so my Legacy
output has nowhere to go. HTML output is no use for CMS things like Wordpress.
How have others approached this problem, and are there any plans to have
Legacy's web created content put into a form that could be used in this way?

Re: [LegacyUG] Relationship calculator -- error??

2014-06-28 Thread Cathy Pinner
It's the relationship that is being called step, not the 3rd
great-grandmother.

It does seem a strange way to express the non-relationship.

Strictly her first husband is not a step 3rd great-grandfather and so his
father is not a step 4th great grandfather but it's a way of indicating that
this isn't a blood relationship. If it just said 3rd great-grandmother's
husband's father, would you be left wondering whether it was a blood
relationship?

So how would you describe the connection?

Re: [LegacyUG] Downloading updates

Ray,

I understand you are using Legacy 8 and have installed it on both computers
from a disc. It sounds as if you have updated the program on the desktop but
you haven't updated it on the laptop.
Therefore when you try to open your family file on the laptop, you are getting
a message saying you need a later build.
Update the program on the laptop (either from the Home Tab OR by downloading
the Standard version from the website and running it) and your problem should
be over.
Note although you download the Standard Free version from the website, it is
the same installation file for the Deluxe. The difference is that the Customer
Number unlocks more features.

I'm not sure why people were telling you to install Legacy 7. Confused I think
by you saying that both computers were running Windows 7.

 Subject: RE: [LegacyUG] Downloading updates

I have loaded Legacy8 Deluxe from disk to a laptop for use in an upcoming
genealogy trip. The problem is it will not download the the updates from the
original build. It will not let me transfer my file from my desktop saying
the file is for a later build. To top it off I can not completely uninstall
the program as I get the message “could not find INSTALL.LOG file”. What
do I do to get this fixed? I am using Windows 7 on both my desktop and laptop.

Cathy is correct. I mistook the Win7 for Legacy 7 and tech support suggested
7.5. But the point is he now seems to have a Legacy8 program he can't
uninstall for a missing INSTALL.LOG. Usually when you get this you can't get a
clean install of 8 even if it does provide the install.log to uninstall it

Thanks, Cathy,
Maybe if it said 3rd great-grandmother's *first *husband's father, I
wouldn't wonder -- or I would just look to see. Of course, I already knew
it wasn't a blood relationship.

Strictly her first husband is not a step 3rd great-grandfather and so his

that this isn't a blood relationship. If it just said 3rd
great-grandmother's husband's father, would you be left wondering whether
 it was a blood relationship?

So how would you describe the connection?

Re: [LegacyUG] Relationship calculator -- error??

2014-06-28 Thread Robert57P_gmail
If it is not blood relationship, shouldn't it show it as in-law rather
than step?

Hmmm - wait - what's the difference in in-law vs step? Both are
legal relationships, not blood relationships. Never really thought
about it before . . .

Father-in-law (my spouse's father)
step-Father (my mom's 2nd(?) father, not my blood father). But
technically he is my father by legal definition (assuming I was
adopted by him), so wouldn't that make him my father-in-law or
father-by-law??? or father-per-law???

Along similar line:
Uncle - my Dad's brother
Wife of Uncle - my Dad's brother's wife
Aunt-in-law - wouldn't that be another way of saying my Dad's
Brother's wife?

Guess rather than helping, I've thrown more confusion into the mix! Sorry!
