Thanks, Cliff! I was afraid that was the case. I'm about to dump Windows
7 as I don't want to be forced to use Win 8 or 10. I hope I don't have to
abandon LFT in the process.

I personally used Windows 7 for the longest time. It was by far my
favorite OS. When I was forced to move to 8 I did not like it but now that
I am using 10 I love it (it feels like 7). I do not know if you have given
10 a try but I suggest that you try it. Legacy works well on Windows 10
and if you do run into any issues with Windows 10 and Legacy we urge you to
contact us at support and we will be more than happy to walk you through
the issue.

2015-11-06 Thread Gene Wheeler
Jairmie,

Thanks for jumping in with your thoughts and experience with Win 10! I'm
glad to hear that LFT works well with Win 10. Thanks also for the offer of
assistance from LFT Support. That's a very important consideration. If I
stay with Windows, it will only be because of my strong commitment for LFT.
But I hate being "forced" by MS into doing it their way. I really like Win
7 (hate 8) and have no experience yet with 10, only what I read about from
other users.

Best regards,

Gene

Re: [LegacyUG] LFT under Linux?

2015-11-06 Thread gregandlaurel
Just a quick comment about Windows 10 and Legacy. My 6 year old laptop on
Windows 7 had been freezing and crashing several times a day - especially in
Legacy. About 3 weeks ago I installed Windows 10 and my freezing/crashing
issues totally disappeared. The only problem I have noticed in Legacy since
the Windows 10 install is that I sometimes get hung up in the Name Index - I
have to use Task Mgr to close the program, but this only happens
occasionally. I feel like I have a brand new computer! ~Laurel

PDF editing is NOT supported with Office 2010, you need to have a newer

I've used different names and the same name depending on what I'm doing.

You can edit PDFs in recent versions of Microsoft Word.

There shouldn't be any problem adding a Word doc in media. Same way
you add a PDF.

Could you reply to me privately (not really appropriate for the list as we've
heard that Legacy will run on 10) and let me know which older programs won't
run on Windows 10, but that do run on 7?

That's my biggest concern about 10. I suppose I could back up 7 and restore
if my stuff won't run, but that's a schlep.

Lloyd,
In the bottom right corner of the My Toolbar there is a little arrow looking
thingie (technical term). Click that. That is where you can add or subtract
icons from the My Toolbar.

RE: [LegacyUG] LFT under Linux?

2015-11-06 Thread Cliff Gittens
Gene,
I tried using LFT with Mint and Ubuntu in conjunction with Crossover by
Codeweavers. However, Crossover does not function with the current version of
LFT. Crossover advised that updating their software to function with LFT would
be placed on there work plan but it was not a priority and there was no
timeline available as to when it might be updated.
I also tried Sun's virtual machine to run LFT but was not successful.
It was about at this point that I came to the conclusion that there weren't
enough benefits in running a linux system, primarily because of the absence of
really good software. Both Mint and Ubuntu worked flawlessly I was really
impressed. The available application software was free but didn't work very
well for me.
