Re: [LegacyUG] Deleting and reinstalling Legacy

Realised I didn't mention the most common reason for Legacy not being
recognised. It's been blocked by your anti-virus program which has
quarantined or deleted the Legacy.exe file.

Reinstalling Legacy usually fixes it. For some reason it isn't deleted
the second time.

Legacy should be installed to the Program Files folder on your computer.
Your data can be wherever you like.
Programs are uninstalled, not deleted.

There are instructions for a complete uninstall here:

It concludes with where your data will be IF you've been using the
Legacy defaults for data BUT if you haven't, then you should know
where they are and they'll still be there.

Then there is a link to how to reinstall.

  Jane,

Autosomal DNA tests aren't under the DNA symbol in Legacy as the results
are very different and can't be entered with a few numbers. People are
adding an Event and attaching the results file or recording where
they've stored it. The results are several MB.

Some are also using Events to keep track of matches.
With Legacy 9 people are using Hashtags.
There's been quite a lot of discussion on this in the Facebook Legacy
User Group.

Still using version 8. I add to name suffix box, "DNA Chr 1 match

like to be able to include a lot more of the DNA match data.
Also is visible in reports and books sent to cousins and other

Anyone have a really good way of doing this in Version 9?
Must be able to easily search all the DNA data in Legacy!
I can not handle using extensive DNA spreadsheet data and

Re: [LegacyUG] Event problem - was (no subject)

2017-07-06 Thread Brian Kelly
You should not be trying to put the notes into the sentence override.
That is designed to use codes for things in the event and is limited to
255 characters. The code for notes is [Notes]. When the sentence is
created in a report Legacy replaces that code with the content of your
event notes.

or [FirstHeShe] worked ...
[FirstHeShe] alternates the first name with he/she for events.

OR use the Sentence Override for Elizabeth and just add [Notes] there.

I have an event note. The heading is "Occupation". I have written
the note to start: "Elizabeth worked at"

The orogram sticks "She was employed" in front of the sentence I have
written. So it says "She was employed. Elizabeth worked at"

How can I get rid of the first three words. I have tried everything I
can see to remove it.

Good to know you have recovered.
All the best with your research.

Just as a follow up to this, I backed up the Legacy file and did a
Check Repair. The report that followed this said there were duplicate
citations which it deleted.
It is comforting to know than when something weird and unexpected
happens to the file, Check Repair fixes it.

I was able to restore an earlier version of the file from my Crashplan
backup for the day before I used the Search and Replace. Curiously, it
showed no instances of the characters I was trying to replace. I then
went back to a version two days before and 3 days before and same
thing. I know I didn't click on Replace All. I didn't even get to the
screen which shows the first one to be replaced. I still don't know
which 183 instances of the characters it thought it replaced.

I will save the current file and do a Check and Repair.

Sorry Jennifer,
Only you can decide whether it's worth reverting to the most recent
backup you do have.

Search and Replace is really powerful. I rarely use "Replace all"
button until I'm absolutely convinced it isn't finding anything I
didn't intend.
I'm not sure that changing the citation text via search and replace
updates the modified date. Some things don't.

Thanks, Cathy.

My reason for asking was that I was doing a search and replace in
Citations>Text, and I was very surprised when I got a notice saying so
many items were replaced. I had no chance to see whose data was
changed. I can’t reproduce this so it was probably something I did
inadvertently. I hadn’t done a backup before I started unfortunately.

Yes and No
It depends what you are asking.
If you want people modified on a certain date who haven't been
modified since - yes.
If you want the particular data that was modified for a particular
person on a particular date - no.

For the former - Detailed Search
Individual - Modified Date - equal to -

Is it possible to search for an individual’s data modified on a
certain date?
