Re: [LegacyUG] Relationship calculation to Family Group Sheet(s)?
Margaret, Sorry for the delay in answering, I find subject matter hard to track on users group of this type. To build a relationship report. 1. Select from the main Family page your person that the report will concern. Then go to Tools/Set Relationships and run that to set relationships. 2. From menu bar select Tools/Advanced Tagging. 3. From Advanced Tagging box select Tag (I left my # at 1), then select Ancestors. 4. Ancestor options box will appear. Select Direct line Ancestors, then hit OK. 5. In Advanced Tagging box, select Close. 6. From main menu bar select Reports then Other Reports/Relationship Reports. Relationship Report Options box will open. I changed the Name Format to Surname,Given names(s), your choice. 7. Within the Relationship Report Options select Preview to see if your happy with the results. As you can see, each one of those boxes has some options to change your results. Since you had mentioned a tagged group, I am not sure if this will be what you want, since I used a family member only. I am a novice at all of this, hope my instructions are understandable. [LegacyUG] problem with Legacy 8, build 412 and up
I believe that since I updated to build 412 I have started seeing Children in the Family file listed with bolded names. I have been all through option 3.8 in the customization to no avail. I set Use + at the end of name to indicate spouses and continued lines. the other 3.8 options are unchecked, which can cause bolding. However, some of the names in the Children lists still come out bolded, with no seeming rhyme or reason as to why they do. I have wiped out version 8 and reinstalled , to no avail. I have tried resetting options to Legacy default, to no avail. I do not believe this was occurring before build 412. Any ideas? Thanks. Chuck. [LegacyUG] Design question on trees
I have an ancestor I have done a tree for with Legacy and I followed only male lines down. If a female married into another family name, the tree stopped for her line. so, I have one “origin”, the first person I have recorded in my family. But, if I were to follow all female lines down I would be into potentially scores of other family names (the ones the females married into). If I only follow those families down from the point at which the daughter marries into that family and all of her descendants, it all points back up the line to the original male and his wife in my tree. But if I go to a female and the family she marries into, and follow that family UP into that family, it seems I have created a tree with more than one origin point, potentially scores of origin points for all of the families the females marry into. I do not know what selecting home means anymore at that point. there are multiple homes. Is this the normal expectation? Is there a way to select different “Home” points in Legacy to follow a family down. I only have the free Legacy and so have limited “views”, such as “family”. Re: [LegacyUG] Design question on trees
I must have been very unclear in how I asked my question. It may be that it is so basic that you may think it more involved. I have been working on a family tree for over a year, but am not necessarily versed in the architectural design of trees. I start with a person male 1 - female 1 | | male 2 - wife female 2 - John Doe | | desc of male 2I do not follow down (I follow down) where the number is 1 gen, 2nd gen. I have only produced a tree that follows the MALE line down. that is, I continue to follow male 2 and his descendentants. female 2, if she married john doe, I place that into the tree, but do not follow John Doe's and female 2's line down further. I could follow female 2 and John Doe's family down from there and all would still backtrack and point up to male 1. But, what if I decided to follow John Doe's family UP. then I would be creating a tree with two origin points, the second one ending when I get as far up in John Doe's line as I can get. and, you can't get to John Doe's origin point unless you follow Male 1 down to female 2, then John Doe back UP. male 1 - female 1 ? | | | male 2 - wife female 2 - John Doe | | desc of male 2I do not follow down One question is, is following a person like John Doe back UP in a family tree proper gen tree design? or should I have a second tree covering John Doe's family , up from female 2's connection with him? Or, when I get a female offspring, like female 2, it is more proper to just follow her connections with John Doe, AT THAT POINT, DOWN? One thing that limits my view of all of this is that I have free Legacy, and I can see only a few views of my tree, family and I think Pedigree. Chuck. -Original Message- From: Ron Ferguson Sent: Saturday, October 26, 2013 8:49 AM To: LegacyUserGroup@LegacyUsers.com Subject: RE: [LegacyUG] Design question on trees Chuck, I am not at all clear as to what you mean when referring to the female tree. This may be because I tend to think in terms of mtDNA when considering a female tree. In my scenario the female line is always passed from mother to daughter down the line. Which is why I cannot see why you switch to a daughter's father and not her mother. Re: [LegacyUG] Individual Report
Thanks to ALL who replied. FYI I don't plan to print, but save to PDF to distribute to those who wish a copy. Thanks Again chuck On Wed, Aug 21, 2013 at 6:16 PM, Wendy Howard wendy.how...@gmail.comwrote: Interesting option - had not noticed that before. :-) I thought I'd take a look, and after waiting probably less than a minute for the preview to generate decided it would be much more efficient to simply generate a PDF file of the report. But that report - Individual Report, with All individuals in the entire family file (with spouses) selected - produced a four-page report on myself only. BTW, the Help file doesn't appear to match the situation. With the window Select a Report (current selection is: Individual Report) open I pressed F1 and the Help opened at Reports Menu - so far, so good. I selected Individual Reports from under the Chart Reports heading (where not all the reports listed are in the format of a chart), and in that new Individual Reports entry it says: Individual Reports *Selecting the Records to Print* You can print a family group record for the current family or for other groups. The options are: *Only the Current Family* This produces one copy of the family group record containing the husband and wife and their children. *Focus Group Records* This prints a report for each family contained in the current focus group. (See Focus Groups focus_groups.htmfor detailed information on how to set up a focus group.) *All Families in the Entire Family File*This option produces a family group record for every family in the entire Family File. *All Individuals with a certain Tag Level*You select the tag level and then Legacy prints a group sheet for all families that have either the husband or the wife (or both) tag on that level. *All Marriages with a certain Tag Level*You select the tag level and then Legacy prints a group sheet for all marriages that have that level tagged. This does not match the options given for this report, and sounds like it's been copied from elsewhere and someone forgot to edit it. Does anyone else get the same results? Am I missing something important? That's entirely possible, and I welcome corrections if that's the case. :-) Wendy Leon Chapman said the following on 22/08/2013 10:14 a.m.: Sure. 1. Go to Reports, Report Menu (charts) 2. Click Individual Tab 3. At lower left of window, Click Record Selection 4. Select All Individuals in the entire family file 5. Hit Preview -- I would never want to print this. I have over 33,000 people in my database which would mean about 60,000 pages will be generated. You had better do the arithmetic and figure how many pages you will get. In my case, it would probably take several days or weeks to generate the report and print it. So, be careful what you ask for, you might get it. ___ Leon Chapman chap...@gmail.com mailto:chap...@gmail.com - On Wed, Aug 21, 2013 at 2:58 PM, Chuck Schober cgs1...@gmail.com mailto:cgs1...@gmail.com wrote: Is there a way to generate an Individual Report for each person in my database. I produced an Ancestor Chart using the default colors, some of my 5th and 6th generation direct ancestors are not colored. Any suggestions to resolve? Re: [LegacyUG] Caution about installing V. 7.5
I just went ahead and blasted right through the update process and everything is working just fine. I have a network printer connected to two systems and it is printing just fine with no changes to the printer settings in Legacy at all. In fact this was one of the smoothest upgrades I've had. Re: [LegacyUG] Copying Text into a Legacy Note
If it's an OCR program you are after, you might try _*FreeOCR*_. I just downloaded it and am going to test it. From all the reports it should work as well as any. Nitro is making a couple products that might do the trick at a lot less cost than adobe Check out Nitro PDF reader. However, I'm afraid it's no longer there on any machine, and I cannot remember its name; I am pretty sure it wasn't FIRe-text. I have also searched the Add-ons and Plug-ins for Firefox without any luck. Funnily enough I was talking to another genealogist at one of the fairs just after using it, and without prompting from me, he also recommended it! I will have another search, but am not optimistic!
