[LegacyUG] Legacy 8.0.0385
Last evening I downloaded Legacy 8. Everyone in my file, 37,000 people, all have date problems with a little red ! by it. I am aware of the (from 1960)exp. change and have started changing that. The program states that 21 November 1898 is incorrect as a date format. I have gone through the 'customize changes' but it still isn't fixed. Do I have to close Legacy 8 before these changes take effect? If there is no fix, except individually correcting them, can I still go back to Legacy 7.5 which is still on my computer? Can a person have two Legacy files both Legacy 7.5 and Legacy 8.0.0385, and use them interchangeably? Re: [LegacyUG] Same sex marriage.
My genealogy is about blood lines. I haven't found any gays in my family, but if I did, I would not list them as partners. Unmarried is my term for those who did not marry a spouse of the oppocite sex. I can surely see why Legacy doesn't want to add gays to their family tree. There are many who feel the way I do. Now, I know some put these gays together as a couple and even the adopted that went along with this union, but it isn't the truth. Gays are a very small percentage of this country, and no matter how loud they scream for this option, it would not be accepted by the other 93% of us Christians. If this ever happens, I will be one who chooses not to use Legacy any longer. I, also have done this for several years. I took the time to change my 20,000 plus database and changed everyone that I didn't know the name of to husband of or wife of or child of. Then when I find two mary's without last names I know exactly which one to link. So, I do it even when I have a first but no last name or if I just have a last name but no first name. The brackets around them keep these things from printing when sharing information. To me it is the perfect solution! You do not say what your operating system is, but you may have it set for these files to read only, if so you need to enable file sharing. How you do this, and the other possibilities depends on your operating system. [LegacyUG] Transferring Legacy Family Tree
Hi, I have two computers and wanted to transport all my genealogy information from one to the other. Well, it worked for awhile, but when I tried to extract the latest update to tree, it tells me the files are private and I need a password. I have never privatized any of my files and especially not my children's birth certificates. I put my usual password in there but no luck. How can I get it unprotected so that I can transfer the rest of the files? Thanks so much, in advance! I have the latest Legacy 7.4 Deluxe program. Re: [LegacyUG] I can't open Legacy 7.4
Hi Brian, I tried deleting and re-installing Legacy last evening but I got a note saying, could not open install.log file. I became so frustrated that I turned my computer off. Then this morning Legacy opened fine. I think the problem had something to do with a Windows update I downloaded. I don't like to update Windows as there always seems to be some kind of problem. Thank you so much for responding to my cry for help! I really appreciate it! Assuming other programs are opening just fine in Windows, something has happened to the executable file for Legacy or one of its necessary supporting files. I can think of many reasons why this would happen but none of which are worthy of discussing on this forum. Which means your quickest and easiest solution is to re-install the program. Don't worry...re-installing the program changes nothing. But you might want to save your existing .USR files ahead of time unless re-customizing the program to your likings is easily accomplished. Re: [LegacyUG] I can't open Legacy 7.4
Hi Brian, I did do a backup of my Legacy and all multimedia files. Every day I automatically do a backup upon exiting the program too. I only update multimedia about once a month. I don't think it is a hard drive problem as every other program is opening fine on this computer, but I am watching it closely to see if there are any other problems. Legacy seems to be working great, for now, and I will continue to watch it. Thanks Brian! Problems opening specific files are usually ownership problems (a Windows thingie...not to be concerned about it unless the computer is used by multiple people), or file corruption (which is the failing hard drive.) Well, we can wonder for hours here but it looks like this is not really a Legacy problem but rather an OS or hardware problem. Just to be on the safe side, I'd make sure that the family file is immediately backed up to a CD/DVD.
