[LegacyUG] LUG mail

Hi LUGA few days ago, I stopped receiving LUG and LegacyFS mail.  Tried to send 
an email to the group and received a reply that I was not authorized even 
though I have been for years.  Went through the re-subscribe process for both 
lists, received an acknowledging email and I responded to the verification 
note.  Still not receiving emails after waiting 3 days.  I'm sending this to

Jay, the users continue to complain, but it falls on deaf ears. Sometimes if 
you carefully copy and paste the URL from the welcoming email, it fixes the 
problem so you can both post and receive. If not, you need to contact support at

Fully agree with Barton. This issue has gone on for years and usually when the 
will is strong enough, there's a way to fix this problem. But remember, you 
must cc the person saying they didn't receive the email, like Baton did. The 
complaining person will likely not get your answer sent only to the list.

This is a common complaint of new subscribers to this mailing list. I
don't know what the problem is, but write to Legacy Support
(supp...@legacyfamilytree.com) and tell them you're not receiving the
list mail and they should be able to fix it at their end.

[LegacyUG] E-Mail, Reply to All, Include the individual's E-Mail address.

If you could get your mail software changed so people can select Reply
All and have the To include the individual's e- mail address it might
help reduce off topic discussions. I use the Thunderbird program and
must use the Forward option then copy and paste the individual's
address into the To field to reply to people off list.

People would still need to delete the list address from the To field.

something. Everything I hear tells me that they have caught up on their

When I purchased 7.5, they said there was no manual for it and v. 8.'s 
manual would be sent when it was available.  I'm still waiting for that .pdf 
now after months.

One point that should be made about spam is that in certain cases valid 
messages may be deleted before they even make it to your account. One of the 
options some ISPs offer is ‘delete spam at server’ so that one would  never see 
the vast majority of spam, even in the spam folder. The flip side of that is a 
few valid messages get deleted and there is no record (to you, the ultimate 
recipient) of them.



I also think some ISPs may do this be default, not even give the user a choice.



So, just because it isn’t in your inbox or your spam folder doesn’t mean it 
wasn’t sent. Only option is to contact Sales to get it sorted out.

manual be published before the way in which a program works has been
finalised? Or are you proposing that the release should have been delayed
until the Manual had been printed? Or would you like it to be full of errors

As I understood it, those getting their numbers now for Deluxe are also 
getting the .pdf.   And I guess I am objecting to the fact that 7.5 was sold to 
me without a manual or any information on how Family Search worked from LDS, 
since that was the draw they were selling on.

You can buy the download with or without the PDF manual, or the CD
with or without the print manual and either print or PDF by itself.

Of course the Help file always comes with the program and is more
comprehensive and up-to-date than the printed manual.

It's been years since I've purchased a program that came with a manual
- usually it only comes with a help file.

The Help File for 7.5 does very little to explain how to use Family 
Search with or without Legacy 7.5.   You learn nothing about the consequences 
of matching, registering/contributing your tree, avoiding fostering duplicates, 
the detailed procedures for using it from Legacy,  the rationale and pitfalls 
of the whole thing.

Sorry to complain but these are issues.  Not sure why we had lesser 
priority than new buyers but glad to know we are still somewhere in the queue.

I've done some experimenting with Family Search (not knowing what I was doing) 
by linking and transferring data from Legacy 8 to FS.  After I decided I should 
learn more about it, I deleted all those links and noticed the information I 
added was still on the FS website along with my name as the submitter.  I don't 
mind that, but I would think once the link is broken the information I linked 
to FS would disappear.  I prefer to not link and just add, but I am going to 
wait until I learn more.

The FS website doesn't give any information about consequences or what linking 
is all about, or the pitfalls involved.

Hi Bill,

I think you misunderstand what 'link' means. All that happens when you link is 
that you tell Legacy that your person (RIN12345) is a certain person ID (eg 
LX-1234) on Family Search. Nothing more. This is recorded in Legacy only.

Then, when you are in Legacy Family Search (share data tab) you have both the 
Legacy file open (on the left side) and the Family Search file open (on the 
right). If you share Legacy data with Family search, you are actually writing 
to Family Search just as if you were signed on to their Family Tree web app.
