Horz. alignment in tables
Hi all, I suspect this is me being stupid, but I never seem to be able to quite get what I want out of tables. Essentially, I want to define the table cell width, and have it centre aligned. I've found that in any column *except the last* I can do this by setting a column width, and then centre aligning each paragraph in the table. This doesn't work in the last paragraph, resulting in a latex error. Suggestions welcome, Rod

Are there of brazilian users out there who could comment? Well, I am not brazilian, but my 2 cent are these: In very old times, German typewriters had a dead key, that did print ´ or ` (= Shift-´) but did not move the carriage. For â, one would press ´`a or `´a. In old DOS times, where the compose key was unknown, many keybords and/or editors were configured to mimic the dead keys. Pressing a dead key will result in nothing, only after the next keypress you get as result: accented characters when applicable (e.g. á,à,â) just the symbol if pressed twice the symbol and the next char, if the next char cannot be accented (e.g. ´x) (if I remember right from my DOS days) If I am right, this is also, what the Linux console does with e.g. de-latin.map as opposed to de-latin-nodeadkeys.map. Dead keys save you one keystroke compared to the Compose key, at the cost of an additional keytroke for the pure accent. Hoewver, it would be very unconvenient to have the komma as a dead key. This is why an already dead key is used for ç (also if this is not as mnemonic as ´a for á, say) As LyX uses its own keymap, the behaviour of the rest of X must be repeated there. Maybe brazil.kmap is a kind of brazil-nodeadkeys? Guenter -- [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Re: Numbering of equation
Hello, Although I can't offer much help, I can confirm this problem. I have tried doing various things to get LyX to number equations (or label them), but nothing seems to work. I've also read the page (numbering.php3). My exact steps were: 1) Be in math editing mode. 2) Click on the bottom bar and type in math-number. 3) All I get is the message (math-number: [M-m n]) in the status bar, then nothing happens. I also tried: 1) Be in math editing mode (I tried with the cursor in various parts of the equation and with none of/some of/whole equation selected). 2) Go to Insert-Label... (I also tried M-m n, but that just echoed my keystrokes in the status bar for a while [2-3 seconds], then it switched it back to the file's general status, i.e., telling me that the file has been changed since the last save). 3) Nothing happens. I am running 1.1.6fix4 on SunOS 5.7 (which I believe is Solaris 2.7). I installed the latest tetex, xforms (0.89 -- supposedly 100% backward compatible), and xpm libraries, and the installation went fine. The document I am editing is using the 'article' class with no modifications. This is also the first time I am using LyX, but I did everything the installation and docs told me to do. The Label dialog does come up if I am not inside mathed. One thing I did notice (just as I was typing this email) is that if I open up the User Guide (Help-User's Guide) and try to add a number/label to an equation in there, it works. This is extremely puzzling, since I have not done anything out of the ordinary when creating my document (I know NO Tex/Latex). All help is greatly appreciated. Thank you, Sachin. For â, one would press ´`a or `´a. In old DOS times, where the compose key was unknown, many keybords and/or editors were configured to mimic the dead keys.
Header
Hi, I have a header problem: I have two Appendix chapters. Now in the header I get Chapter 7. Appendix I. How a can change this so I get only Appendix I (and not the Chapter), this my only change in the Appendix chapter. In he other chapter there must be Chapter chapterNumber chapterTitle. Also how is it possible to get a line under the header. I use heading and not fancy. By fancy I get a line but it give not a very good result. I would like heading style but with a line. Thanks Joeri
boxes in text
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 Hi all, Lyx is great and I can do almost everything I want. Almost... If I look at the the pdf Not so Short Introduction to LaTeX2e I see that the autor has boxes with text with a line around it trough his entire document. The "boxes" are all beautifully aligned on the left side with other text on the right side. How do I do this in Lyx/Latex. I searched a few tutorials but cannot find a way to do this. I only see references to \fbox and this only makes boxes consisting of one line and I cannot place text next to them... Sorry if this is a stupid newbie question... Re: Numbering of equation
Hello, Although I can't offer much help, I can confirm this problem. I have tried doing various things to get LyX to number equations (or label them), but nothing seems to work. I've also read the page (numbering.php3). My exact steps were: 1) Be in math editing mode. 2) Click on the bottom bar and type in "math-number". 3) All I get is the message "(math-number: [M-m n])" in the status bar, then nothing happens. I also tried: 1) Be in math editing mode (I tried with the cursor in various parts of the equation and with none of/some of/whole equation selected). 2) Go to Insert->Label... One thing I did notice (just as I was typing this email) is that if I open up the User Guide (Help->User's Guide) and try to add a number/label to an equation in there, it works. This is extremely puzzling, since I have not done anything out of the ordinary when creating my document (I know NO Tex/Latex). All help is greatly appreciated. Thank you, Sachin. Re: Horz. alignment in tables
Attached is an example, with the error occuring in 1.6 fix 4. I've also just tested it under 1.2.0 cvs, and found it doesn't give an error. As noted in my other message, I have found a workaround that is OK in 1.6f4 as well. [SFX: violent vomiting] Look, I'm 43 and I try to pick up a new scripting language every once in a while. I took to TCL right away, AppleScript even faster, Perl took a couple of tries and some motivation but I got it, and I've known awk for a long time. I've tried several times over the years to learn Lisp or some variant, and can't ever get my head wrapped around it. Can any scripting language talk to LyX through the server pipes? I think that would be the best way to go; everyone could use their favorite language to script LyX. -- Larry Kollar k o l l a r at a l l t e l . n e t "Content creators are the engine that drives value in the information life cycle." -- Barry Schaeffer, on XML-Doc
