I divided the document in a master and several subdocuments. I am getting in /tmp/lyx_tmpdir.TJ4198/lyx_tmpbuf directories for the master and the subdocuments. Could somebody explain the task of these tmp files and its handling by lyx? The reason is, that I have difficulties to localize the citation error, because even after taking out the offending citation lyx is still complaining about it. I have to close lyx and reopen it until I get the response after removing. I guessed, that the aux file is reused after a new run of lyx (without closing it down), and wanted to remove it therefore from the tmp-directory(ies). I am however, uncertain about it, since the last file which contains the citation error produces no tmp-directory. Also, why has the master file directory no aux-file, although this is the file where the list of references is located at the end. The subdirectories have also a list of references at the end, but they are in a commentary-note (allowing to view all the references, that is master and subdirectories). I think you had planned to bundle elyxer in the installer the same way you do for imagemagick and other stuff. After installing from the small installer, LyX uses htlatex on my machine (which fails to convert the document I tested it with). So I guess it's not bundled in the small installer. Unavailable document classes
Hello, I'm a somewhat infrequent user of LyX on Mac OS X. About every other update (my current version is 1.6.1), most of the document classes become unavailable. That is LyX can edit documents in them, but not produce output. How do I prevent this from happening? This is an exceedingly annoying 'feature' of LyX. Regards, Walter

I managed to get elyxer working by doing the following: - copy elyxer.py to the script folder (C:\Program Files\LyX 1.6.3\Resources\scripts) on my machine, - in Preferences - Converters, in the LyX - HTML, modify the command to be: python $$s/scripts/elyxer.py $$i $$o That works. The first file sent to elyxer was probably a little too complex. I killed python after 40 minutes running full on one CPU. I later gave it a less complex file and it returned a correct and nice result (where htlatex fails). I appreciate the fact that the home-made character styles are converted to a Flex CSS class, which can then be created in CSS. Tiny bugs / feature requests for elyxer and LyX (probably already known): 1- Figure numbers are missing in the references. The link with a little blue arrow works, but my text is full of Fig. without figure number. 2- The HTML file is returned in a subfolder, so all images links are broken. When moving the file in the parent folder (where the lyx file is, and where the pdf/ps/TeX are exported, it works fine. 3- There is one place in my file where I used the \unittwo tip given in LyX docs (Appendix A Typographic Advice of Math docs). The LyX file at that point is: \begin_inset Formula $\unit[950]{\mu m}$ \end_inset The view source panel shows: $\unit[950]{\mu m}$ The pdf export is fine, but elyxer outputs: span class=formulaspan class=unknown\unit/span[950]μim/i/span which results in Firefox in: \unit[950]μm But overall, it looks already very good. Hi again, Olivier, On Fri, Jun 5, 2009 at 2:06 PM, Olivier Ripolldurocortorum73-gm...@yahoo.fr wrote: I managed to get elyxer working by doing the following: - copy elyxer.py to the script folder (C:\Program Files\LyX 1.6.3\Resources\scripts) on my machine, - in Preferences - Converters, in the LyX - HTML, modify the command to be: python $$s/scripts/elyxer.py $$i $$o Quite cleverly done. I believe that the version of Python distributed with LyX should run eLyXer just fine. The first file sent to elyxer was probably a little too complex. I killed python after 40 minutes running full on one CPU. This is the one I'm mostly interested on. I later gave it a less complex file and it returned a correct and nice result (where htlatex fails). I appreciate the fact that the home-made character styles are converted to a Flex CSS class, which can then be created in CSS. Any custom layouts are converted to custom CSS classes. You have indeed good eyes. Tiny bugs / feature requests for elyxer and LyX (probably already known): Not so much. 1- Figure numbers are missing in the references. The link with a little blue arrow works, but my text is full of Fig. without figure number. Odd, captions should work fine. Again, please send me a sample document if at all possible. 2- The HTML file is returned in a subfolder, so all images links are broken. When moving the file in the parent folder (where the lyx file is, and where the pdf/ps/TeX are exported, it works fine. This is a design decision of Pavel Sanda (and for the record, I do not agree with it): http://www.mail-archive.com/lyx-de...@lists.lyx.org/msg150892.html There is the possibility of copying all referred image files, convert them and then copy them back. This approach requires more work and I'm still figuring it out. 3- There is one place in my file where I used the \unittwo tip given in LyX docs (Appendix A Typographic Advice of Math docs). The \unit tag is not supported yet. If you send me a sample doc I will try to make it work. Yes, I know I am requesting a lot of sample files from you; but that is how eLyXer has improved until now, thanks to kind testers. You can also join the hall of fame! Alex.

This will have the consequence that your text, even if monolingually English, * will not be hyphenated correctly * cannot be spellchecked Well, babel at least isn't required for spell checking. However, in a broad picture there are two ways babel can be used: 1) Old way User manually adds \foriegnlanguage tags to quoted text, loan words, etc. 2) New way LyX stores language text is in, and outputs tags to switch between lanuages. With the (1), if the user puts \foriegnlanguage tags around all quote etc., producing a UK edition from a US addition is trivial: Switch the document type to UK, spellcheck (hopefully the author has avoided ambiguous dates etc.), and 5 minutes later we have a version of the document in UK English. With (2) it is not so simple. The obvious way is to switch the document type to UK English, but then LyX fights your decision by adding \foriegnlanguage tags around everything. You can fix this by selecting All and reseting the language. Then however, all the quotes are now in UK English as well, even e.g. French quotes. AFAICT, LyX has no way of distinguishing between (a) This is text is in UK English because this is a UK English document and (b) This text is in UK English, because it is a quote, name etc.. This distinction seems to be useful when preparing the same document in different dialects. We could add an additional language Default to allow us to distinguish between (a) and (b), if we felt this was important. -- John C. McCabe-Dansted PhD Student University of Western Australia

Something like this will do the trick: \renewcommand\labelenumi{(\arabic{enumi})} \renewcommand\labelenumii{(\arabic{enumi}.\arabic{enumii})} \renewcommand\labelenumiii{(\arabic{enumi}.\arabic{enumii}.\arabic{enumiii})} I'll leave yo to do \labelenumiv. rh Thanks, - Amir Rachum On Fri, Jun 5, 2009 at 4:44 PM, rgheck rgh...@bobjweil.com mailto:rgh...@bobjweil.com mailto:rgh...@bobjweil.com mailto:rgh...@bobjweil.com wrote: Amir Rachum wrote: Hi guys, I'm trying to write some algorithms in LyX 1.6.1 under XP.

Could you add this version (together with a link to the documentation of the new layout file syntax) to the enumitem page at the Wiki? Once it goes into trunk, I'll probably add such a module to trunk, too, since it's such a common request. rh

Amir Rachum wrote: yes. Well, the first question then is how to do it in LaTeX, and to do that you need to produce some sort of list, I'd guess. Alternatively, you could just use the enumeration environment and change the numbering format. This will give you the correct LaTeX output, though it won't show properly on the screen. Something like this will do the trick: \renewcommand\labelenumi{(\arabic{enumi})} \renewcommand\labelenumii{(\arabic{enumi}.\arabic{enumii})} \renewcommand\labelenumiii{(\arabic{enumi}.\arabic{enumii}.\arabic{enumiii})} I'll leave yo to do \labelenumiv. rh Thanks, - Amir Rachum On Fri, Jun 5, 2009 at 4:44 PM, rgheck> wrote: Amir Rachum wrote: Hi guys, I'm trying to write some algorithms in LyX 1.6.1 under XP. I have no idea how to use packages and haven't found an easy way to achieve this. I am willing to try though, so if you can post step by step instuctions I would appreciate it. I'm not sure I understand. Do you want the lines to be automatically numbered in this way? rh
