I've done the same thing multiple times before. This happens to me when
downloading .cls files for me. Sometimes my automatic wget download
"succeeds" but it ends up being an html message that tells me the file
doesn't exist.

You could use scripting, e.g. if you are on linux:
$ LAYOUT=`lyxclient -c LYXCMD:server-get-layout|sed s/INFO:server-get-layout://`

Then manipulate the result in LAYOUT variable and pass it back again via

However, the way to change it
(typically for headings) is very often class-dependent (classes have
their own idea on how customization shall be done).

A possibility would be to have a layout setting for allowing "standard"
customizations. Those could be either disabled/not enabled in classes
that are incompatible with the standards or, even better, be overwritten
by the appropriate custom command.

In fact, the Font block on the local layout only affect the editing
area. If you want to change the actual heading formatting you need to
use the titlesec package. For example, to set the section heading to
use the sans font defined in the document (\sffamily), in bold and
with its size set as \Large, assigning to it a custom color (I don't
like pink), write in the document preamble,

\usepackage{titlesec}
\usepackage{xcolor}
\definecolor{Gren}{rgb}{.3,.7,.3}
\titleformat*{\section}{
   \Large\bfseries\sffamily
   \color{Gren}}

Thank you, I was aware of the titlesec package, but using mainly
LyXHTML I was looking into something less specific to output method.
In the Font block however, the Size parameter does affect output, at
least in the LyXHTML case.

Why this inconsistency? Should I ask lyx-devel about possibly
implementing color from layout (titlesec for Latex and CSS for LyXHTML)?

That's a missing feature then. We do handle some font features, but not
all of them. (We would only do this for LyXHTML. The font color in LyX
itself is not meant to be reflected in LaTeX, unless you specify that
separately, as above.)

The easiest way to solve this for now would be to add some CSS to the
layout.

You did not mention the class you used (which failed) so it is

It might well be that you don't need to write the layout at all.

Hi Pierig,

If you're saying you want every line of the first paragraph of a dialog between
two
people to start with a hyphen or dash, I don't think that's possible in LaTeX
or CSS
or pretty much anything.

So, are you really looking for the following?:

 - Steve said, "My skateboard went down a sewer, so I fished it out with a rope
 - and coathanger. It took an hour, but it was better than climbing into the
 - sewer, because there was a dead, rotting aligator down there and about a
 - thousand rats feasting on it."

 "Pretty gross, replied Pierig. When my skateboard fell down the sewer, I just
took
 off the sewer cap and retrieved it. It only took me ten minutes. But there was
 no wildlife in the sewer."

 With a far off look in his eye, Steve said, "I remember the good old days when

sewers didn't have rotting carcasses in them. Those were the days, when you
could
get your skateboard just by climbing in!"

Is the preceding what you meant, because if it is, I can't think of one piece of
software that will do the preceding for you. If the preceding is *not* what you
meant, please give us a sample so we're all on the same page. By the way, my
mail
client gives me very little control over indentation, so please ignore the
indentation and concentrate on where the dash/hyphens go.

Thanks,

SteveT

Re: advices for layout modification

2022-08-21 Thread pierig
Thanks Steve, I have a lot to read I have started by
http://troubleshooters.com/linux/lyx/self_publish_lyx.htm just to get
along with your tutorials and the way you wrote them.

As I am not always focused, I have tried to add that in my layout file:

Style Dialogue
  LatexType Environment
  LatexName dialog_l
  ParSep    0.5

  Font
    Shape   Bold
  EndFont
  Preamble
    \newenvironment{dialog_l}
    {
    \begin{list}{}
    \item[---]
    }
    {
    \par
    \end{list}
    }
  EndPreamble
End

But that doesn't work at all. It leads to what I was afraid of. The
first line of my dialog has the — sign, but not the others...

I definitely have much more reading to do, but if you have an obvious
solution to my problem, I'll be happy with it. Still, starting to be
late for me. I'll see that another day.

I think you're going to be quite pleased with making your own text types

You're

I congratulate you on choosing Book class. It works with everything, and it's
very

Memoir.

I have looked at some advice on the net and manage to add a /dialogue/

between every speaker? Doing so would make for slow authoring.

  \newenvironment{pensee_l}
  {
  \itshape
  }
  {
  \par
  }
    EndPreamble
End

Thanks for your help.

I suggest you find the LaTeX source for the Book document class standard
paragraph.
I don't remember where it is, but other people do. Modify as needed for each of
your
desired environments.

Having the first and last whatever different from the middle ones might require
three different paragraph styles. I think LyX has a "next style" property you
can
put in the LyX part of the environment definition, so that pretty much makes
everything except the last whatever automatic.

Here's a doc I wrote 13 years ago discussing making your own layout file:

http://troubleshooters.com/linux/lyx/surefire_layout.htm

Also read http://www.troubleshooters.com/lpm/200210/200210.htm . It's almost 20
years old, but it has ways to modify existing LaTeX environments without
rewriting
them from scratch. Combined with CopyStyle, this just might simplify your task.

If you ever need to make your own list environments, see
http://troubleshooters.com/linux/lyx/ownlists.htm

Actually, you might want to acquaint yourself with my whole LyX subsite,
http://troubleshooters.com/linux/lyx/ , which links to quite a few LyX
documents.

End

By the way, I think you can set the path where the "New from Template"

If it is not possible, maybe you could set up a template (see

I meant: Create a document. Set it to your layout. Set it to your

document, the title "Index" (or its modified name) does not vertically
align with other section titles in the output. There is more vertical

Could this be related to the two-column-layout of the index? Could
|titlesec| modify the index title in LyX?

How can the index further be modified, e. g. how can I add a short
prologue between the title and the first entry?

I was also a bit confused about the index program. The User Guide says
that xindy is used by default, but in the log I only find makeidx. In
the global preferences the processor makeindex is selected.

Thanks!

Adding \usepackage{imakeidx} to the preamble patches the different
spacing of the title, it also gives the opportunity to specify
\indexprologue{Text}.

How to LyXify frequently used LaTeX custom commands

First Example: If you have defined a LaTeX custom command - either in
the LaTeX class file, in a LaTeX style file, in the LyX document
preamble or as ERT in the LyX document itself, e. g.

\newcommand\bigsize[1]{{\fontsize{50}{60}\selectfont #1 }}

then you can write all of the following in LyX Document -> Settings ->
Local format:

Format 66

InsetLayout Flex:KingSize!
  LyXType   custom
  Decorationclassic
  LatexType command
  LatexName bigsize
  LabelString   "Big!"
End

Press the button "Validate", it should return something like "Format is
valid", then press "OK". Now you will find the menu entry "KingSize!"
in LyX Insert -> Custom Insert, and when you click it you can enter
text.

To assign a key code to the new custom inset, go to LyX Tools ->
Settings -> Edit -> Key Board Short Cut -> New and enter the following
line into the text field:

flex-insert "KingSize!"

Click into the gray field "Key board shortcut" and press the keys you
want to assign.

Second Example: I frequently need Rechenkästchen - I do not know the
English word - to this end I have in LaTeX

\usepackage{tikz}
\newcommand\kariert[2][0.5cm]{%
\begin{tikzpicture}[gray,step=#1]
\pgfmathtruncatemacro\anzahl{(\linewidth-\pgflinewidth)/#1} %
maximale Anzahl Kästchen pro Zeile
\draw (0,0) rectangle (\anzahl*#1,#2*#1) (0,0) grid
(\anzahl*#1,#2*#1);
\end{tikzpicture}
}

This provides the command
\kariert[size]{rownumber}
with the mandatory argument rownumber and the optional argument size,
e. g.
\kariert[8mm]{6}
results in 6 rows of 8mm sized Rechenkästchen. To test invocation in
LyX conveniently, write the following in LyX Document -> Settings ->
Local Format:

Format 66

InsetLayout Flex:Kästchen
  LyxType   custom
  DecorationClassic
  LabelString   "Kästchen"
  LatexName kariert
  LatexType command
  Argument 1
LabelString "Größe"
Mandatory   0
  EndArgument
End

Validate and press OK, go to LyX Insert -> Custom Insert -> Kästchen
and press again. Enter a number of rows, compile and see. To modify the
size, right click on the number just entered und press "Größe" in the
context menu (or the corresponding key code), now you can type a size
in dimensions known to LaTeX.

If local formats have been tested as described in the two examples,
they can be written in a layout-file as described in the LyX Customize-
manual, chapter 5. All this is for text-mode commands. I did not get it
to work with LyX math macros.

If I understand the preceding several posts correctly, this can give me
a capability I've been wanting for years. If anybody has the code to
make a custom insert in a local layout file, could you please post it so
I can replicate your work? To me, it's not at all obvious how to do
this.

Just in case somebody comes across this thread in quest of an answer to
the question how to make the assigned key code appear together with the
entry in the menu - here something I found out accidentally and which
I did not find documented:

If I type

flex-insert "mycustominsert"

- note the quotation marks - and assign a key code, then the key code
appears in the menu Insert -> Custom insert -> mycustominsert.

If I omit the quotation marks and type

flex-insert mycustominsert

and assign a key code, then the menu entry appears without the key
code.

This is with LyX 2.3.6.1

Probably "flex-insert INSETNAME" is what you want. Just assign that

Dear readers of this list,

I created a local layout (Document -> Settings -> Local layout) which I
can invoke via the menu (Insert -> User defined insert -> Local insert)
and which works as expected.
How can I assign a key code to this local layout?

Thank you for helpful hints in advance,

Thanks much Riki!

For anyone following in my footsteps, the solution to the lack of
extended fonts for a layout derived from extbook is to add the
following line as the first non-comment line of your layout file:

Input extbook.layout

Then close LyX, run texhash again, then run configure.py again, then
open the LyX file set to your home grown layout, and you'll now see all
the font sizes in Default Family of Document Settings/fonts.

Layout based on "Book (Standard Class with Extra Font Sizes)"

2021-04-28 Thread Steve Litt
Hi all,

I'm making a layout file, based on Document Class "Book (Standard Class
with Extra Font Sizes)". After investigation on my Void Linux computer
with TeXLive, I found that
/usr/share/texmf-dist/tex/latex/extsizes/extbook.cls
provides class "extbook" and has code for sizes 8,9,10,12,14,17 and 20.
Indeed, it works when I make a document with it as the document class.

But when I derive a class called mm_create from it, using the following
lines at the top of the layout file:

#% Do not delete the line below; configure depends on this
#  \DeclareLaTeXClass[extbook]{mm_create}

and then use mm_create.layout as my local layout, the base size on my
document->settings->fonts only lists default, 10, 11 and 12.

I repeatedly used texhash, configure.py and restarted LyX, all to no
avail. I even tried manually using Tools->reconfigure, same symptom.

What do I need to do so I can get the sizes afforded by extbook.cls?

Thanks,

SteveT

I suppose you are looking for 2up printing, as provided by these LaTeX
packages (among others):

* https://ctan.org/pkg/twoinone

* https://ctan.org/pkg/twoupltx

* https://ctan.org/pkg/pfarrei

Most are quite straighforward to use (simply one line to be added to
your preamble)

Layouts are controlled by a "documentclass". Under Document → Settings →
Documentclass it's possible to select any of the documentclasses installed
in your system. There are several "book" documentclasses, the simplest one

I think this is the better approach. Besides beeing more general, it
saves us from having to decide which "documentclass" the "no class"
should get or if we should raise an error with any attempt to compile
this "no class"-document.
A "don't warn about different documentcalss" button in the

If the common file contains only macros, perhaps you could just change
it to a module?

To expand on this, the idea is not that the document would have actually *no*
class. But there could be a special class called "basic" or something that only
has "standard" layout and that does not generate a warning when included in any
other class that has a standard layout. Something like that.

Seems like a common workflow and I can see how that would be annoying.

The "much slower" part is surprising to me. It could be a bug in LyX.
Could you please provide a minimal example where it runs much slower?

Not that I know of but I think it's a good idea. We do have the concept
of "no color" and "no language". You make a good argument in my opinion
for something like "no class". A related idea we've discussed before in
different contexts is the idea that child documents could share document
settings of master documents. In this case, you want the child document
to inherit the document class of the master document. This is not
implemented yet, but there are a few different use cases we would want
that general framework.

This is as expected: You've basically made resume a completely minimal
class, since all you've done is to import what's common to (almost) all
classes.

If you want the LyX layout to include whatever is specific to
resume.cls, then all of that has to be declared. Have a look, for
example, at moderncv.layout, and at Chapter 5 of the Customization manual.

LyX not completely importing new class/layout

2020-08-08 Thread Steve Burnham
I have attempted to create my own CV Latex class based on another template
I downloaded and incorporate it into LyX. I've done this before with my
School's dissertation class long ago. I have done the following (Linux):

   1. I downloaded the CV .cls file and I placed it in my LaTeX directory
   2. I ran texhash to update
   3. I created a LyX layout file (text below) and placed it in
   ~/.lyx/layouts/ and then reconfigured LyX and restarted the program
   4. Created a new file and under Document>Settings>Document Class I
   selected my new CV class called "resume" and hit apply. LyX then says it's
   converting the document to the new document class.

After these steps the pull down menu for the layout list does not populate
according to the new class. It appears populated as a standard article
class rather than the custom layout options from the CV class. If I add in
front matter and compile the document it does compile successfully and
things like name, address, phone are formatted correctly. So I know that
LyX can see the class and is using it to compile the document. I can also
import plain LaTeX and everything works but this just turns LyX into a
glorified TeX editor rather than what it should be doing. Below is the
contents of my layout file which is quite minimal:

#% comment line
# \DeclareLaTeXClass{resume}
Input stdclass.inc

Layout to enter a Variable

2020-05-06 Thread Dr Eberhard Lisse
Hi,

in the Koma Letter variant I can generate a Local Layout to generate an
"Entry Field" with the label in colour and the content reusable as ERT
in the Text.

If I try something similar in the Koma Article, it does not show the
Label and centers the field.

Is there a way of doing this in LyX?

I filed the report, too, and have always meant to do something about
it. Really, that bug is more general, since the idea was for it to be
possible to declare various options, as well, so the command could in
effect have arguments (the way the label command does, e.g.).

Thanks for this workaround. I did actually notice this shortly after
sending my email and must admit that it is already a big progress
that I can at least get rid of the annoying  red box.

Would it be enough here if we could just have a "no text box" option?
This would basically be a form of Decoration.

Riki

For appearance in LyX this would be helpful, but if the associated latex
command has an empty argument  attached that might be confusing, for
example if using the latex command in an ert inset where you will need
to remember that it is not just the command that is required but also a
following empty argument (otherwise the next token in the ert inset is
going to be gobbled).

I am looking for an archaic Greek font. (Not sure it is the right forum...)

I downloaded one from MiKTeX (https://ctan.org/pkg/greek6cbc) and the whole
archaic bundle, but I cannot get it to work -- maybe incompatible with Unicode?

Any alternative suggestions are welcome!

The problem with this InsetLayout is that LyX always displays a red

annoying in this use case as such insets will be quite common in the
document. Is there any method for removing this as this macro does
not require any arguments. I tried to set LatexType to None with no
success and did not identify any other potential solution. Also
google did not show me any potential solutions for this.

After some research and looking up in files provided with LyX I seem
to understand that basically insets are always expected to have some
type of conments and the use I make of it here is more a work-a-round
than a solution. At least I was unable to locate an inset where no
content was excpected.

So the question remains:

  * Is there a way to prevent LyX from asking for some content (red box)
  * If not, is there another solutioin than the one used here to
achieve the same goals and avoid that input box ?
  * would it be possible to add an attribute to InsetLayout to
disable the contents box in the doc text in a future version ?
(like NoContent)

But you can eliminate the red box from showing by closing the inset
(click on the inset label to toggle open/closed).

Alternatively, there is a hybrid Latex/LyX solution, that avoids going
to the menu to insert custom insets and uses keyboard shortcuts instead.

1. Ensure instant preview is On (Tools > Preferences > Look & Feel >
Display)

2. Assign a keyboard shortcut to preview-insert (Tools > Preferences >
Editing > Shortcuts > Cursor, Mouse and Editing Functions). Now that
printing directly from LyX is no longer supported the shortcut Ctrl+P is
available.

3. Enter in the preamble (Document > Settings > Latex Preamble)

\newcommand*{\projectName}{ My Project Name }

and click OK.

To enter the project name in the document,

4. insert a preview inset (Ctrl+P)

5. insert an ert inset (Ctrl+L) inside the preview inset. On a QWERTY
keyboard, the P and L  keys are diagonal neighbours so steps 4 & 5
involve holding the ctrl key down and tapping P and L in quick succession.

6. enter \projectName in the ert inset

7. move the cursor outside the insets. The preview does its magic and
the project name is shown.

Custom layout inset without arguments

2020-04-18 Thread Gaston Gloesener
Hello,

NOTE: if you are not interested in my history of TeX/LaTex and Lyx just jump to
the question below :-D

I am very new to Lyx but a very “old” Tex/LaTeX user, while I was not using it
for long time right now. I started using TeX/LaTeX back in the 1990’s where I
used it for writing several project documents and even wrote a quite complex
package for building figures of binary data structures.

So I did have some very deep TeX knowledge at that time, while I have to admit
that now I have to lookup everything again like a noob  But due to the former
use the bits come up and fit together quite easily again. When it comes to
LaTeX my knowledge is also much smaller than at that time but still better then
plain TeX “internals”.

This said, I decided to start a rather quite huge project documentation using
LaTeX again for reasons of the target audience of the project. While I was used
to write all my documents in plain LaTeX in ascii mode I decided to give a
modern frontend a try this time. After some research and reading my choice did
obviously fall on LyX. This was yesterday late evening  and I decided to start
with MikTex after also some research on both options. I was not expecting LyX
to trigger as many MikTex package downloads which voided one advantage of
MikTex and also hung at some point. So I went back and went with TexLive this
time. Installation took a long time (as expected) but worked this time
including LyX which I reinstalled just for not having to search on how to
switch TeX instance and making sure it’s a clean installation as well.

Question

First I want to mention that I did RFM (LyX user and customization manuals
relevant sections) and used google with no success

I was looking for a way to use macros for entity names which may change
throughout the lifecycle of the documents (like the project name). I know how
to do it using a TeX macro but I wanted it to be a LyX integrated solution. The
solution was found via google to be an InsetLayout in the local layout
settings. I did quickly understand the main mechanics and attributes so that I
got it to work and looked up the details in the LyX customization manual.

InsetLayout "Flex:projectNameInset"

  LabelString “My Project Name"

  LatexType Command

  LaTexName projectName

  LyxType "custom"

  Decoration Classic

  Preamble

\newcommand*{\projectName}{ My Project Name }

  EndPreamble

End

The problem with this InsetLayout is that LyX always displays a red parameter
input box after the insert of the inset and this is quite annoying in this use
case as such insets will be quite common in the document. Is there any method
for removing this as this macro does not require any arguments. I tried to set
LatexType to None with no success and did not identify any other potential
solution. Also google did not show me any potential solutions for this.

After some research and looking up in files provided with LyX I seem to
understand that basically insets are always expected to have some type of
conments and the use I make of it here is more a work-a-round than a solution.
At least I was unable to locate an inset where no content was excpected.

So the question remains:

* Is there a way to prevent LyX from asking for some content (red box)
* If not, is there another solutioin than the one used here to achieve
the same goals and avoid that input box ?
* would it be possible to add an attribute to InsetLayout to disable the
contents box in the doc text in a future version ? (like NoContent)

Many thanks for reading,

And more thanks for replying ,

Gatson

lyxbooks layout bug(?)

2020-04-14 Thread Manuel
Bonjour,

{Macos Mojave; Version LyX 2.3.4.2}

https://tex.stackexchange.com/questions/263418/lyx-2-1-4-doest-load-document-classes-after-using-reconfigure

To solve this problem: 1 - I removed the .layout file I am trying to use from
the Layouts folders (both user and for all users). 2 - I run the Reconfigure
and after restarting LyX, all the previous default document classes were add. 3
- To use the layout file that I want, on Lyx, I put the .layout file in the
same folder I have my LyX file. 4 - Using the option "Local Layouts", I
selected the .layout file, and now when I close and open the Lyx, I don't get
any error.

En tout cas merci de faire Lyx!

Que la force soit avec vous!

Looks like the old 4.1 layout is still valid also for 4.2.
The only difference is the the use of revtex4.2 class instead of revtex4.1
The attached may be enough ...

Copy the 3 files to your userdir/layouts (on unix most probably ~/.lyx/layouts)
and do a 'Tools->Reconfigure' in lyx.
Restarting lyx, you should be able to use the class.

In any event, LyX is user-written software. Nothing happens with LyX

Sporadically incorrect figure layout in two-column Article

2019-09-18 Thread list_email
I frequently experience what appears to be a problem with the Article class. I
am using two-column format with some floats for figures. The figures take about
1/4 to 1/3 of the height of a column. Sometimes, two figures get pushed to one
column, most of the time with no problems, leaving room for some text in the
same column. Other times, the two figures occupy the entire column and leave
lots of empty white space above and below each figure but no text there. I
can’t figure out what causes it to happen except that it can happen after
adding or deleting some text before the first of the figures; likewise, it can
revert to correct layout after adding or deleting some text before the first
figure.

I use some defaults and some non-defaults in the Document -> Settings dialog
box. There are numerous equations.

LyX 2.3.2, macOS 10.11.6.

Here is my preamble:

% Customize character size in captions.
\usepackage{caption}
\captionsetup[figure]{font=small}

% Drop cap
\usepackage{lettrine}

%\usepackage{multicol}

% Currently using "abstract" only for \saythanks.
\usepackage{abstract}

% Try to change section, subsection... font sizes.
\usepackage{titlesec}
\titleformat{\section}
  {\normalfont\fontsize{12}{15}\bfseries}{\thesection}{1em}{}
\titleformat{\subsection}
  {\normalfont\fontsize{10}{12}\bfseries}{\thesubsection}{1em}{}

% Allow amsmath to make IEEE-style equation line breaks across pages and
columns.
\interdisplaylinepenalty=2500

Here is a screen shot of thumbnails of three pages. The first and last are
correctly formatted but the right column of the middle page shows the problem.

We can discuss the specifics of this below, but I just want to say that
even if this is fixed, you will without doubt run into problems with
doing this back and forth workflow. LyX can export and import LaTeX, but
the import is never going to be perfect. It's such a difficult problem
to convert between all possible permutations of LaTeX (which allows a
lot of different ways of writing things) into LyX, even for a LaTeX file
that LyX exported! I thus recommend that you use mainly LyX or mainly
LaTeX for any given project. Otherwise you might get headaches.

If you got different output, this would be a LyX bug. Whenever you view
a PDF from LyX, what happens under the hood is that LyX first exports to
LaTeX. So the LaTeX exported from LyX should give the same PDF result
(assuming run with the same engine).

If you don't get a reply here, please make a LyX ticket on

  http://www.lyx.org/trac

When you create the ticket, please select the component "tex2lyx".

Although I discouraged the workflow you have set up above, the good side
to it is you will likely find a lot of potential improvements to the
import, tex2lyx, so if you create trac tickets with minimal examples for
each of them, it's possible they could be fixed. tex2lyx usually
receives fixes for each new LyX release.

Best,

Scott

Figure layout messed up when exporting to latex and importing again

2018-08-31 Thread Uwe Thuemmel
I often go back and force between LyX and LaTeX. Unfortunately,
exporting from LyX to LaTeX (pdflatex) and importing again into LyX
messes up the layout of (sub)figures.

More particularly, I'd like subfigures to appear side by side. In the
original LyX file, this looks as follows, and in the PDF figures appear

(figure_layout_original.lyx)

If I now export to LaTeX (pdflatex), and compile the .tex file

However, if I import back into LyX (import from LaTeX, plain), the

produced a wee bit of extra vertical space below the formula (70 pixels,
compared to 20-40 pixels for other items, on my screen). I've attached a
hacked version for you to test.

Hello,

In this document, the layout changes according to the use or not of
color in formula.

How can I avoid it?

It's a problem of the layout file. A quick fix is to change

LeftDelim   "\question"
to
LeftDelim   "\question "

in line 140.

A better fix would be to rewrite the layout and using ItemCommand.
I.e., replace the question definition by

Style Question
CopyStyle   Enumerate
LatexName   "questions"
LabelCounterquestionnumber
LabelString "\arabic{questionnumber}."
ItemCommand "question"
CategoryQuestions
End

and remove --begin_questions-- and --end_questions-- style definitions.

(same for the other environments of this kind)

What you are looking for is the DependsOn tag. Unfortunately it only
works for Style entries (normal paragraphs), and not (yet) for InsetLayout.

Feel free to open an enhancement request about that, but this will not
happen before 2.4.0 for file format reasons.

Another solution, since you copy Flex:Test, would be to use
AddToPreamble, but this only works at top-level.

Layout files: Preamble inheritance?

2018-01-16 Thread Klaus-Dieter Bauer
Hello!

Is there some way to tell LyX, that some layout definitions (in *Document →
Local Layout* or in a layout/module file) depend on the preamble defined by
others?

E.g. consider the following:

InsetLayout Flex:Test
Decoration classic
LyxType custom
LatexType   command
LatexName testit
LabelString Test
Preamble
\newcommand\testit[1]{testit(#1)}
EndPreamble
End

InsetLayout Flex:TestInherit
CopyStyle Flex:Test
LatexName testitb
LabelString TestInherit
Preamble
\newcommand\testitb[1]{((\testit{#1}))}
EndPreamble
End

IfI am searching for a way to tell LyX about this dependency, i.e. *“If
Flex:TestInherit is used, also add the preamble defined by Flex:Test, even
if it isn't used separately.”*

Usually, loading a package twice means the second call is just ignored. Only
if there are different package options, this fails.
Are you using options? What is the error message?

I'm not getting errors right now, but if our document class eventually does any
configuring of xunicode, I would receive an error and I'm trying to avoid that
possibility in the future.

Does your document class try include/require "tipa" functionality?
Otherwise, it should not require xunicode with an up to date fontspec package.

I don't think so? I haven't inserted special phonetic symbols that way, but I
may have inserted raw unicode.

Thank you! Since it's not giving me an error on build right now, I'm happy to

Unfortunately not (at least not easily).

Let's look for workarounds:

xunicode is only added for phonetic symbols with Unicode fonts ("tipa"
emulation via Insert->Special characters->Phonetic symbols): you may
consider inserting phonetic symbols as literal Unicode characters instead.

xunicode layout option?

2017-09-14 Thread John Parejko

Is there a way to get LyX to not add \usepackage{xunicode} to the resulting
LaTeX output? Unicode support is already provided by our document class
(currently also via xunicode). I've added Provides commands to my LyX layout
for a number of other things (e.g. amsmath, geometry, fontspec), but there does
not appear to be such an option for xunicode.

I'm using XeTeX to build, and it's not clear to me which, if any, of the
Document Settings options I can use to not get xunicode included in the ouput
preamble.

Thank you,
John

Ah-hah! I didn’t realize I could delete the text in that box: I thought it was
a pure selection box.

That did the trick.
