Re: KNFB reader
Well someone did an audio boo regarding knfb on the iphoen 4s. It is not support but it does at least on their phone work, not that well. and besides the 4s is probably 2 years out of date. so getting a 5s at least is probably a good idea. Take care. Re: Abbyy fine reader pro help please
Hello Ian, Here is the workflow I normally follow when using FineReader Pro (FRP) to convert existing PDF image files or other files I want to OCR. This is the quick method and basically involves opening the document in FRP, allowing the automatic recognition process to complete, and then exporting the resulting text to the desired file format. This quick process works fine for the vast majority of my OCR needs. Note that these instructions are for processing existing digital documents such as PDF files. I also use FRP to interface directly with my scanner for importing scanned paper documents, and I can write up a separate set of instructions for that process if you need them. 1. In the FInder, navigate to the file you wish to OCR. 2. Press VO+Shift+M to open the shortcut menu, and choose “Open with… FineReader Pro. 3. The file will open in FRP and FRP will automatically start the process of “Recognizing” the document. A dialog box provides status information on this process. 4. When the recognition process has completed, you might encounter a dialog box with a message or messages warning you of any problems encountered during the recognition process. Close the warning dialog when you’ve finished reading it. 5. Press Command+S to open the Export dialog. 6. Select the format you wish to export the document to, and adjust any associated options if desired, then click Next. This opens a standard OSX File Save As dialog where you will name the file, choose the location where you’d like it saved, and click the Export button to complete the process. My 5 has an 8MP camera, as does the 4S. I'm pretty sure that the 5S and 5Cs have an 8MP camera. There may be other improvements to the cameras other than the megapixels, but phones are usually advertised with the megapixels. Re: KNFB reader
Perfect but it was slow in trying to navagate the screen to the various buttons but once picture was taken and it started reading it was just fine. The other thing is that an iPod Touch and iPad or iPad Mini do not have vibration and there is a vibration setting on it to help with page alignment. I do not like this vibration even when using it on the iPhone and have turned it off. - Original Message - From: Glenn glenner...@cableone.net To: OS X iOS Accessibility mac-access@mac-access.net Sent: Friday, September 26, 2014 8:08 PM Subject: Re: KNFB reader How was the accuracy? iPod Touch 5th Generation
Hi All, I have just restored my iPod Touch 5th generation in order to sell it. I was in the Apple store and when no speech on it, I asked the man assisting me to turn on voice over. He said he did but I said I could not hear it. He went in again to General and Accessability and this time I could hear it. I put the iPod Touch in my pocket and went home. When I came home vo was not talking. Any ideas how I put voice over on please and why would it have turned off like that. I did the usual 2 finger tripple tap but that did nothing. Re: KNFB reader
Well like Andy said they have not said it would work with an iPad or iPad Mini. I just tried it on the iPod Touch as it was 5th generation but like I said it was doable but not sharp and snappy like on my iPhone. At least I have it on my iPhone so no problems really. Great app though and worth the money. - Original Message - From: Glenn glenner...@cableone.net To: OS X iOS Accessibility mac-access@mac-access.net Sent: Friday, September 26, 2014 8:20 PM Subject: Re: KNFB reader I think you can sync the apps you have on your phone to your mini. Re: iPod Touch 5th Generation
Eleanor, You press the home button three times quickly. A double-tap of three fingers only turns speech on and off, but does not disable VoiceOver. So if you did the latter, a sighted person would still have trouble using it without knowing how to use VO. Re: iphone question.
It depends on what you want to use the 4s to do. For example, I would advise anyone with a 4s NOT to upgrade it to the latest OS that supports it, namely, IOS8. Expect the phone to be sluggish, and even freeze up on occasion. You will not be able to use many new apps, as the 5s and after have 64 bit processors and apps will be written to utilize this more powerful processor. The 4s can be used as a phone and ereader, if you want that capability. Personally, I would not get anything below a 5s, at this point. I have just replacd my 30 month old 4s with an iPhone 6 with 128 GB. The 4s has 64gb and has been filled to capacity multiple times.Definitely do not get a 4s with only 8GB! How to download a previously purchased iPhone App
Hello, I am trying to download an iPhone App which I had purchased some time ago and subsequently deleted from itunes. I have now moved to IOS 8 where this App will now work again but cannot download it. If I go to the itunes App store the download button for the App is dimmed. If I go to the purchased tab in iTunes I can see the App but there is no button to re-download it. I recall that there is a keystroke which will undim a dimed control, which would then let me redo the download. Any ideas would be appreciated. Many thanks. Re: iPod Touch 5th Generation
You can do one of three things. All of these do not require sighted assistance. I will list them in the order of the ease in which to accomplish them. First: press the home button three times rapidly. This does not require cited assistance, and should turn voiceover on. This is set by default, I believe, in the majority of newdevices. Second: if Siri is enabled, and you have Wi-Fi, you can tell Siri to do it. A good way to check and see if you have Siri is to press and hold the home button. If it says that Siri is not available because you are not connected to the Internet, then try step three. You will not be able to get Internet without voiceover. Third: connect your iPod to a computer. Do not allow it to sink, but you can then choose a voiceover in the configure accessibility dialogue. Re: iphone question.
Not really that price. When you pay that price, you are stuck in an expensive contract, and hence paying a lot for the phone. I recommend buying one either used, or an older one that Apple still sells, and take it in to the phone store to activate, or use it without a phone number. You might be turning it on and off if the volume is too low. You should do a triple-click of the home key, and do the two-finger flick up, and start voluming up. Then repeat that once more, to make sure you are voluming up VO. That is the only way to know, to do it twice. Before making any assumptions about the cost of a contract, it is besst to find out how much you will have to pay with or without a contract. Yes, but one can get significantly less expensive service from a non-contract company than with one. In fact, Selectel has a 15 dollar a month data plan, and Verizon's least expensive one, the last time I checked was 45 dollars. Re: How to download a previously purchased iPhone App
hello Paul. Go to updates in the app store on the phone. Double tap on purchases. Then double tap on not on this IPhone. There should be a list of apps you got that are not there. Just double tap on install. If I go to the purchased tab in iTunes I can see the App but there is no button to re-download it. I recall that there is a keystroke which will undim a dimed control, which would then let me redo the download. Any ideas would be appreciated. Many thanks. Re: iOS 8.0.2, to Upgrade or Not?
Hi Matthew, Since you asked, I would offer my opinion that it is a good idea to wait for a couple weeks at least after a major update, to let all the bugs get worked out. IOS 7X is not that bad and waiting just gives something to look forward to in a few weeks. Don't get wrapped up in this instant gratification craze, and save yourself some headache and wait for a while. Re: iOS 8.0.2, to Upgrade or Not?
Unless there is something in IOS 8, that you absolutely must have, I would encourage you to wait. After using IOS 8 for a week, on my new iPhone, I definitely will not be updating this iPad mini, till some bugs are fixed. Actually I heard some of the accessibility bugs have been fixed and some work arounds as well. I myself will wait especially now that apple stopped code signing ios7 so down grading really is not a possibility anymore if you find somethign brakes. At the same time how ever the more of us that report bugs the more apple might consider a fix for us.
