I can create folder. your podcasts are the ones I'm trying to import into
Itunes so I haven't been able to listen to them. So I'm at a loss as how to
listen to them. If you can help?

 Hi Kawal,

This is an odd question, but can you create a podcast folder under Itunes
Media? I know I had to subscribe to the podcasts and then once they were
downloaded they would go in to separate folders. I don't know if that helps.
 I hope so though.

create a new library which I do not want to do. I try and import them to my

Considering the fact that unless you are a developer and obtained the beta via
legitimate means, I cannot believe you have the nerve to ask how to
install/upgrade software you are not entitled to use. I hope no one provides

even more sense and wow, you would have to wait one entire week.

right on scott the huge wait time is absolutely staggering, and to be blunt
jumping ahead of the line to install unsanctioned product just because we can
is a bit of a kick in the nuts to a company that has made itself usable out of
the box for us. It's not only free, but jumping ahead is not only a touch
unethical considering, but a touch rude to boot.

Re: Install iOS 4 today!

2010-06-12 Thread Scott Howell
I think you miss the point and honestly I realize I am wasting my time even
commenting to begin with, but sometimes it is hard to restrain myself. Perhaps
it does not ring on your morality meter, but the point you are missing is
wether it is two weeks or two years, it is still unethical and illegal in most
countries. And not to mention there is no guarantee that what you got is free
of not only but, but also malicious code. Maybe it would not happen, but I
would rather get my software from a legitimate source than some torrent site.
Then again, my curiosity just isn't very strong I guess.

Re: How do I Navigate the desktop, dock, and Menus Using the Trackpad Commander?

2010-06-12 Thread William Windels
Hi pete,
First of all, I don't know if the gestures are the same on the trackpad as on
the ipad since I haven't a ipad or iphone yet.

But, I can give you some gestures for the macbook (pro):
By default , there is no trackpad command for the desktop I think but you can
make gestures in the voiceover menu: commands trackpad commander.
You have to chose for command or control or shift or option key in combination
with the gestures.
Unfortunately, the default gestures can't be changed.
For the doc: you touch the trackpad 2 times with 2 fingers at the bottom
(horizontal) of the trackpad (in the middle.
For the menubar: you do the same but on the top (horizontal) side of the
trackpad.
Interaction: swipe with to fingers from left to right or revers to interact
or stop interacting.
ascape: same as interacting but vertical in stead off horizontal.
Rotor: turn with 2 fingers from left to right or revers.

I hope this helps,

best regards,
William

Re: A new Mac user with a few questions.

2010-06-12 Thread Allison Manzino
Hi Kari,

I'm sure someone on this list has answered all your questions by now, but
here's my little two cents :). I think to read an entire document with
VoiceOver, you have to press VO and A. That tells VoiceOver to read the
document from where the cursor is till the end. I don't believe that you need a
Spyware or antivirus program for the Mac, but another list member would be able
to help you with this one. I currently don't have anything like that installed
on this Macbook. I've been a Windows user for ages, and use Trend Micro on my
Windows machines. I love the Mac, and only have my Windows PCs around for the
programs that I absolutely need that aren't compatible with the Mac. I hope
I've helped somewhat. Have a great day.

VO navigation help

2010-06-12 Thread Catherine Kudlick
Hi All,
What do people do when using VO to read a long document and want to skip
ahead, start in the middle of a page, or return to reading it where they
left off? Someone suggested I hit shift VO up-arrow to get out of
interacting with the text, then use the find a string of text or go-to a
particular page commands followed by VO-shift down arrow to interact with
the text again. This strikes me as cumbersome for doing something so basic.
Is there a better option, such as a command that tells it to read from the
cursor forward? (The in-depth manual says to use VO-A, but this always
takes me back to the beginning.)

Thanks, Cathyk

Re: VO navigation help

2010-06-12 Thread Anne Robertson
Hello Cathy,

There are lots of text navigation commands in VoiceOver but you must interact
with the text for them to work.

VO-a does read from current position and VO-b reads from the beginning.
However, you can read by sentence and by paragraph, too.

You can also go to next colour change, or next attribute change, next
misspelled word, and so on.

You can find all these commands by doing VO-h twice and looking through the
Text menu.

Remember that you can always lock the VO keys with VO-semicolon to reduce the
number of keys you need to hold down.

Cheers,

Anne

Moderator Note - Discussion of pirated software on MacVisionaries / Installing iOS 4 early

2010-06-12 Thread Cara Quinn
Okay All;

First things first. The next person (and anyone thereafter) to post details on
obtaining / installation of pirated software on this list will simply have
their posting privileges revoked. (no questions asked)

Now, to be clear, by 'pirated software' I mean software that isn't
legitimately legally available to yourself or the list as a whole. This also
refers to software which is illegally obtained. (such as via illegal torrents
etc.)

So basically, if you're not supposed to have it at the present point in time,
then don't show others how to get it by posting instructions or links here on
this list. Simple as that. This is just not the place for this sort of thing.

NOw, having said this, you are totally free to keep the topic of early

  HI chris;

have you tried pressing enter on the folder in the dock, that you'd like to
open?…

YOu should not only be able to see the items in said folder, but you should
also be given the option to open the folder in Finder rather than just seeing
it on the dock.

Also, pressing VO shift M will also bring up a menu of other options; open
should be one of them.

Best of luck and have a great weekend!…

Re: opening applications folder in the doc

2010-06-12 Thread Mike Pedersen
Another thing that I find makes use of the applications, downloads, and
documents icons more useful is to do the following:
1. VO+shift+m on the doc icon that you wish to act upon
2. Make sure that folder and list are checked and be sure that stacks or fan
are not
After you do this you should find that pressing an up-arrow on these icons will
present you a list of whatever is in that particular folder.

transferring itunes library to mac

2010-06-12 Thread Chris Westbrook
OK, thanks all for your help on opening applications. I was hoping that I
would be able to hook up my iphone to the mac and have it synchronize to the
mac, but apparently this doesn't work because it doesn't sync to that library.
Is there a way to tell it to forget about the p.c. and transfer all the content
to the mac or must I try to transfer the stuff from the p.c. over to the mac
and then sync? What a pain.

Re: opening applications folder in the doc

2010-06-12 Thread Cara Quinn
Great tips Mike, but be careful of one of these.

Depending on where a user has the dock positioned, (left, right or bottom of
the screen) the arrow used to open the folder will be different. I.E. When the
dock is on the left, the right arrow will open the folder; when it's on the
right, the left arrow will open the folder. -And, as you say, when it's on the
bottom of the screen, the up arrow will open the folder. -The rule of thumb is
that the arrow that points to the middle of the screen will open the folder.

Personally, I just find it easier to either use VO space or enter. -And, if I
want a context menu, I just use VO shift M.

HOpe this helps!…

Smiles,

Cara :)

Strange behavior in menus on Macbook Pro

2010-06-12 Thread Kimberly thurman

Good evening folks:

I am having some strange behavior in menus. It is in the apple menu.
When I envoke the menu with VO M and arrow down through a few of the
choices, just as I get to the point where restart, force quit, sleep,
restart, and shutdown are located, none of these choices are there and
it only says dock submenu. Now, if I monkey around with the arrow
keys some I can get the usual choices that are there, but it is very
random and annoying. Does anyone have ideas on what could be causing
this behavior. My Macbook has been acting very strange indeed
lately. I'm just having random oddities here and there. If anyone
has any advice, I'd appreciate. I've repaired permissions. How do I
repair disk without erasing all my stuff? Thanks in advance!

I wonder what your screen resolution is or if you have screen
magnification turned on. In terms of trying to get things to work,
you might want to start typing the command in the menu you are
attempting to access.

Re: Turning off the Trackpad

2010-06-12 Thread Allison Manzino
Hello,

Here's how to disable the Trackpad commander. Press VO F8 which will open
VoiceOver utilities. VoiceOver
keys are control option. Then arrow down to where it says commanders. VO
space on that and you will come across three tabs, keyboard grackpad and I
forget what the other one is. I think it's numpad navigation. Press VO space on
the trackpad commander tab and uncheck the box that says enable trackpad
commander. I hope that helps.
