Re: Selecting a range of cells in Numbers
Hi E.J., Shift+arrow keys is the right way to do it. Interact once with the table, navigate using your arrow keys to where you want to start selecting, hold down the shift key and move vertically or horizontally until you have them selected. Then you can perform the action you plan to do. VO will tell you the number of cells selected while you navigate. Hope this helps! Thanks for the reply. I found the trial version of this software. Will this trial convert scanned immages to text? i'm happy to pay for it, but I need to test it before I buy. SOmetimes software is simply archived as a zip file and once opened it generally will extract the contents of the zip in the same location (i.e. in the downloads folder if that is where your downloads are located). If the file is an app (not a pkg file or installer) you can simply copy the app into the Applications folder. When you run the app, it will create any preference files etc. If the app is an installer package, you would not copy this to the Applications folder. You can just run it from wherever you are and it will install the software and any other supporting files into the proper locations. You can unmount the disk image by selecting it and pressing command-e to eject the disk. This is a very quick and dirty description without piling to many details on you. Good morning John, Thanks for the response. I tried this again on a new sheet and it worked. Yesterday I tried several times on more than one sheet and it did not. Re: Cd burning software for my mac.
It can't copy stuff on the fly? Well that's news to me, but why would you want to copy from one dvd drive directly to another? It's faster, but it's not all too stable. You might have to go to toast or something for burning to multiple drives at once. I must admit, I toyed with the idea of building myself a cd copier with four burners and an industrial grade 1 plus RPM hard drive. It would have a really and I mean really barebones linux setup and be more or less automated to make a direct copy of a disc put into any of the drives at any time, and email me the results of any failures. I wouldn't want to try that with a mac OS machine though. It may be more stable than windows, but there's still a whole lot going on under the hood and I wouldn't want my multi-copier distracted if my email comes in or some such. Hi folks, Neil has requested that we send our info in a specific format, so I am posting his message here: Best, Donna Dear All, It has recently come to the attention of me that Bernard who tirelessly has worked on our communities behalf through his efforts with Solona.net has fallen ill... the exacting nature of his illness is not known, however, as many of you have commented his efforts in helping us through all manner of adaptive tech requires recognition, not to mention our support at what is no doubt a difficult time right now. We have a mailing address for Bernard and shall be posting a get well card to him in a week or so. Saving files in nested folders
Hi everyone, I've been using the Mac for almost two years now, and for the most part, I have loved the experience. There are other times, however, when I feel discouraged about ongoing inadequacies on my part that just shouldn't be. Here is an example where I could use some help. I always try to be meticulous when it comes to saving files in the right place. Yesterday, I created a new folder under Documents in which I will store all of my 2011 work-related projects. Creating the folder was easy. I called the folder 2011 Work. Within 2011 work, I then created a folder called Astrid, where I want to save projects for a client (my daughter in this case) named Astrid. Getting to the folder from within Finder is easy. However, I ran into problems when I tried to save my first project. While I could get to documents/2011 Work, I couldn't get my Mac to allow me to get to the subfolder named Astrid. Does SL or Text Edit, for that matter, only allow a person to store files no deeper within a hierarchy than what is defined somewhere in the preferences? Does this question even make sense? You all are great, and thanks! Mike -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups MacVisionaries group. It will interface with most twain compliant scanners. Others will have something to say on this subject as well. As far as installing software, I will give you the most basic information because there is a lot to cover as far as technical details. So, basically you have software that is rapped in a disk image and most of these have an extension of dmg. This disk image when opened mounts to the desktop and contains the application or perhaps an a self-contained installer package, which incidentally has an extension of pkg. There are a lot of great resources out there that cover the topic in greater detail and you might want to do some reading and research. I am sure others will have plenty to share on this topic as well. Hope that helps some and gets you started. Re: Saving files in nested folders
When you have the save window open there is a Disclosure button if you click on that then the standard Two Panes of a finder window will appear. At that point I would make sure you are n List or Column mode and then navigate to the folder. Once you have saved an item in that folder with that application, it will then show up in the pop-up list of places to save files. On a related note: here is a time saver from Log ago that still works. When closing a window with changes that you do not want to save ... Clicking command-D will click on the Don't Save button. One other possibility, I recently saw that tidbits announced a disk utility package calledl Drive Genius 3.1 for the Macintosh that costs $100. Re: iWork 09 - setting font colour
Hello Everett, To select a colour in Pages, press Cmd-Shift-C and select the third button, Color Palettes, in the toolbar. Navigate right to the popup menu to choose your palette. Apple is the simplest, but the others can be fun, too. Just interact with the table and use VO with the arrow keys to choose your colour. You can check your selection with VO-F6. The selected colour will be applied to the paragraph where the text pointer is located, or to any text currently selected. You can switch between the text window and the colour palette with Cmd-accent sign to get to the text window, and Ctrl-F6 to get back to the colour palette. splitting sound
HI all. I have my mac connected to a usb dac for listening to music. I would love to be able to have voice over come out of the internal speaker on my mac and have the usb dac reserved for the audio stream. Is there a way of directing which sound output device to send vo over? I looked around but couldn't find anything obvious. Would love to only hear music through the stereo and not my mac voice. Re: Saving files in nested folders
Hi Mike, Another alternative way to save files to any specific folder (which need not even be nested under your current directory) is to use the Command-Shift-G (Go to folder) shortcut in your save dialog window. This works the same way as it does for your Finder window. You can either type in a full path, for example: ~/Documents/2011 Work/Astrid/ or, if you started creating the file under Documents/2011 Work, you can type in the path to the folder relative to your current location, for example: Astrid/ This is particularly handy if you want to save your file to a completely different location -- maybe to ~/Documents/Miscellaneous/ or maybe to a file on your Desktop such as: ~/Desktop/Inbox/ You can also use any of the default system shortcuts for folder locations (e.g. Command-Shift-D for Desktop, Command-Shift-O for Documents, Command-Shift-A for Applications, etc.). You do not need to add a slash at the end of the folder name as I did to indicate this was a folder -- it will work either way. This method works when you don't want to expand the Disclosure button, and can be faster. However, clicking on the Disclosure button to display the Finder window as Jon explained lets you navigate within the panes. I also press the Escape key on the keyboard as a way of canceling out of window actions. This can be even faster than using Command-D to indicate Don't Save. HTH. Cheers, Esther On Jan 26, 2011, at 03:56, Jonathan C. Cohn wrote: When you have the save window open there is a Disclosure button if you click on that then the standard Two Panes of a finder window will appear. Have a great morning. Jon On Jan 26, 2011, at 8:36 AM, Michael Busboom wrote: Hi everyone, I've been using the Mac for almost two years now, and for the most part, I have loved the experience. Hi, There isn't any specific commands for VO and Numbers, but if you press VO-H and check out the commands list, you will find some commands that are especially useful when working with cells. For normal navigation, just interact with the layout area, then the actual table, and use your arrow keys or VO-arrow keys to navigate. Use shift-arrow keys to select/deselect. Use VO-shift-space bar to edit a cell. Except for this, you just have to learn the application features like anyone else would do. Good luck! I must admit, I toyed with the idea of building myself a cd copier with four burners and an industrial grade 1 plus RPM hard drive. Re: Cd burning software for my mac.
Toast is both expensive and inaccessible. Supporting multiple burners isn't quite the same thing as a copy on the fly. Simply burns should be able to see two dvd drives and copy a disk from one directly to another on the fly. Unfortunately I don't have a cecond burner to test it on, but it should work. Duel drive support, the ability to burn to two drives at once is pretty rare if that's what you're looking for. I heard that nearo has it, but I don't even trust disc to disc copies, much less two burns at once. Hi all, I've been reading lots of the posts here. As others are so much more knowledgable than I, I have not felt I would offer anything new or different. Hence my not responding. I don't know a lot about Numbers. I did do a podcast on it, and I'd be more than happy to help anyone who needs it via skype or Facetime. I liked Scott's idea of VO H. If there is al list of Numbers keystrokes, I don't know them. Wish I did smiley. Well, have a wonderful day. Re: voiceover interacting when collapsing threads in mail message table
Greetings Frank and others, I went into voiceOver utility - navigation and unchecked:automatically interact when using tab key. Now I can use the right and left arrowkeys to expand and contract threads respectivly, and since I retained my preview pane, the tab key usually causes VO to read the highlighted message. HTH. Re: Skype Voicemail
Cheree Heppe here: Finding the buttons when a function is being done can be tricky. When I made my voicemail greeting, the play and record buttons were on the bottom of the screen, on either side of the Home button nest the edge. The meanings of some or maybe all of the buttons, I can't recall exactly, change according to function. So, the play becomes stop, etc. I would try it to see, but am not sure what would happen to my current message if I jump into the voicemail setting and try the buttons. The newest concept with me with the IPhone is that I can do it.
