Re: Creating keyboard shortcuts broken

2012-05-23 Thread Anne Robertson
I can create application shortcuts without trouble, my problem is with creating
shortcuts for Services items. These are the ones that show up in the Services
menu. I have several that I created a long time ago such as New TextEdit Window
Containing Selection, but I can't create new ones. The Add button simply
doesn't work.

Cheers,

Anne

Cool. What about sharing your files with other folks? Say I put a file up
there and want you or somebody else to have access to it? Can that be done?
Do we share folders like on Drop Box or else how does that work?

Us older hotmail users get 25 GB of free storage. I love my sky drive, the

Re: streeming iphone content on imac?

2012-05-23 Thread Chris Blouch
I was just trying to figure this out myself. The phone does have VGA
output with the little Apple dongle cable but most video conference
systems don't take VGA input to share the display. They usually rely on
some kind of software you install to share the screen directly to the
network. Maybe Apple has something special that does take input. What
I'm currently thinking about is a VGA to USB encoder which gets a live
video feed into my Mac and from there I hope to feed that into Skype or
the like. In particular I was considering the Epiphan VGA2USB box.
Currently I use something called an Elmo which is a small camera and
stand thing which was cumbersome to transport and you had to get
everything aligned just right and then not move the iPhone or iPad.

I think the books are in mp3 zipped, so you have to unzip them. I think there's

RE: From iDisk to SkyDrive

2012-05-23 Thread M. Taylor
Hello Kawal,

I cannot speak as to the future plans of Apple. I can only address what is
currently stated by them said statement indicating that iDisk will be
deactivated on June 30, 2012.

One can certainly sync iWork and/or iWork compatible documents to iCloud but
iCloud functionality differs greatly from an OS independent remote storage
medium.

Hello Mark.

Thanks for your informative message.

I have the following questions.

1. I thought you could put your documents in the Cloud.

2. Are you sure that Apple will not replace I disk with something else as I
understood they would be launching I disk again under a new form as Apple
were not sure what they would do with I disk.

Just my reflections.

Kawal.

Re: Creating keyboard shortcuts broken

2012-05-23 Thread Mark BurningHawk Baxter
There is an "add application shortcut," button, and I was able to get a
shortcut created, but only as an experiment, as that app was bound more
effectively elsewhere. However, one thing that I cannot get it to do is
replicate the "menu command," which the shortcut creation editor asks for: as
in, "please enter the menu command exactly as shown." I never got that part to
work.

RE: Either i'm utterly stupid or...

2012-05-23 Thread M. Taylor
Hello Krister,

I assure you that no one is utterly stupid (smile).

I prefer Sky Drive to Dropbox for a myriad of reasons that I will not list
here; my point is that there is something for everyone. Nothing more or
less.

As for the SkyDrive iOS App in order to bring up all of the marvelous
options available, one must double tap the screen. That is to say, once you
are viewing a document, all toolbar buttons disappear allowing for a
beautifully clean layout.

Again, there is something for everyone.

Making a Joyful Noise,

Mark

Skydrive is outright clumcy to say the least. Nowhere did i find a way to
share folders with others like you do in Dropbox. You can't do anything at
all except putting files in the skydrive folder with the mac app that seems
to require being open in the background all the time, but why it has to be
like that is beyond me since you can't do anything of what you can do with
Dropbox, neither share nor browse folders on the site nor anything, the app
just sits there, although i think it's used to synchronize between server
and folders of your devices.
As i stated in the subject line, i may be utterly stupid and totally miss
the obvious, but if not, i have to say that i can't recommend Skydrive to
anyone despite the size. Dropbox rules in my book.

Re: Creating keyboard shortcuts broken

2012-05-23 Thread Anne Robertson
Hello Jonathan,

No, that does not solve my problem. I interact with the second column, and if
there is already a shortcut assigned, I can change it. However, if there is no
shortcut assigned, the Add button does nothing. This is broken in OS x 10.7.3
and 10.7.4. Before that, there was no Add button, just an editable field.

I reported the problem to Accessibility, but have had no reply.

Cheers,

Anne

streeming iphone content on imac?

HI all,

I told them I would like to demo me using the iPhone and the apple guy said

have iPhone 4.
Will let you know how it went.

Re: Creating keyboard shortcuts broken

2012-05-23 Thread Mark BurningHawk Baxter
And, just chiming in here, I didn't use Keyboard shortcuts in system prefs to
bind F13 to "say time." I used an app called "spark," and a "say time," script
to bind it. I still cannot bind F14 and F15 to anything, as they are currently
bound to slide screen display brightness up or down.

Re: keyboard shortcuts for navigating the dock

Yes, that is all you need to do. I wonder if these dock commands though are
available in Tinkertool, which basically just runs the defaults command.

Windows shuts down after windows key press

2012-05-23 Thread Antonio Guimaraes

Hello all,

I'm using VMWare Fusion 4.1.2 with windows 7, and JFW running on a Mac
OS 10 machine.

I get thrown out of my Windows session, and am not able to get back in
after I press windows in combination with another key.

Has anyone seen this?

I hope this is something with an easy fix, even if it would require some
sighted assistance.

Thanks,

Antonio

Anne,

A couple of days back I figured out a bit of this and gave information to Mark
Buring Heart Baxter.

Essentially, the key binding is now in the same column as the action, and does
not read unless you interact with that column.

Let us know if that solves your issue.

2012-05-23 Thread Ed Worrell
HEllo, If you use the website after your file is uploaded to SkyDrive your able
to share it with people and send them a link to download the file. You can also
download the IOS app, this app is pretty cool and easy to use. I haven't played
around with the app much, but everything is accessible with Voiceover,
apparently you can edit .doc files on the IOS app, haven't played with this
feature yet. You can also choose people from your contact list to email files
to.
As for the app on the computer the SkyDrive app does the same thing that the
DropBox app does, forgranted the Dropbox app is hiden in the background better,
both apps do the same thing, they sit there and watch for new files to be added
to the proper folder then they send it to the cloud. I feel that MIcrosoft has
done a good job and it works just as well as Dropbox.

question about checkers wise pro

2012-05-23 Thread Tammy
Hi all,

I downloaded checkers wise for my ipad because I love their chess program and
thought the checkers would be just as good. Well I can’t get it to do
anything, every move I seem to make it says is illegal, and I can’t get it to
do anything much really . I’m extremely disappointed because I know the app is
great but I can’t get it to work. What I’m doing is double tapping the piece I
want to move, and then double tapping the square I want to move it to. The
squares are numbered, or seem to be anyway, but the numbers don’t really make
sense and I can’t move diagonally like you’re supposed to do in checkers.
Maybe I’ll stick to chess, but I’d like to get this program working. Any help
would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Tammy

MBP vs MBA VS...

2012-05-23 Thread Joanne Chua
Hi there,

After been friend with IMac and trial on older generalation of MBP for
a while, and the fact that my 5.5 year old Dell laptop is slowly
giving up due to overheating, i think i'm quite ready to slowly but
surely move in to the Apple Mac family completely.

Can i have some general fit back as to the performance for both MBP and MBA?

I am thinking of either get the MBA 13 inch with 1.8GHZ or MBP 13inch
with 2.8GHZ.

I'm a university student and also someone who's part time employ that
do alot of multitasking on my computer. So, features like capability
of multitasking, will definitely a must for me. however, i don't
necessary need to access to CD drive although having it could be a
bonus.

At the moment, i have a 22inch secondhand IMac, and also the
possibility of having a 24Inch second hand IMac in the near future.

I also have extensive experience with IPhone and IPad2.

My question is, what is the different from MBA with 1.8GHZ to MBP with
2.8GHZ in terms of speed, capability, and multitasking ability?

Also, if i go down the path of havine an ipad3, will it be sort of
wasting the vallue of having MBA, and should go directly for MBP
instead?

I am well aware, and do realize that the physical size and weight of
MBA and MBP are different. But if we put the size and weight aside,
what are the plus and miness to having MBA compare to MBP?

Your advice and opinion is very much appreciated.

Thanks

Joanne

Re: From iDisk to SkyDrive

Hello Mark.

Thanks for your informative message.

I have the following questions.

1. I thought you could put your documents in the Cloud.

2. Are you sure that Apple will not replace I disk with something else as I
understood they would be launching I disk again under a new form as Apple were
not sure what they would do with I disk.

Just my reflections.

Kawal.

2012-05-23 Thread Krister Ekstrom
Skydrive is outright clumcy to say the least. Nowhere did i find a way to share
folders with others like you do in Dropbox. You can't do anything at all except
putting files in the skydrive folder with the mac app that seems to require
being open in the background all the time, but why it has to be like that is
beyond me since you can't do anything of what you can do with Dropbox, neither
share nor browse folders on the site nor anything, the app just sits there,
although i think it's used to synchronize between server and folders of your
devices.
As i stated in the subject line, i may be utterly stupid and totally miss the
obvious, but if not, i have to say that i can't recommend Skydrive to anyone
despite the size. Dropbox rules in my book.

touch fire cover experiences for the ipad

2012-05-23 Thread William Windels
Hello all,
I have done a pre-order for a touch fire cover (keyboard) for the ipad from
www.touchfire.com.
It's a cover that makes the letters on the keyboard tactile.

I have red on the side that the first release of the product was a few weeks
ago.
So: is here someone who has such cover and:
is it possible to type on the ipad with 10 fingers (like you do on a normal
keyboard?
Can you activate buttons on the ipad like maken a new mail or send a mail
without removing the cover?
in global: is it what you have expected or is it better/worser?

kind regards for your answers,
William Windels
