muting voice over speech
Hi all, Just wondering, How do I mute speech if I want to use a braille display with voice over and just want to use braille? strange safari problem
Hello All: Well I don't know what to think of this. All of a sudden Safari won't open any google search pages. For example, I enter a search string for a search and Safari says it can't open the page because it is unauthentic or some such thing. It says something about certificates. I know that Apple and Google have not always gotten along but really, must they do it on my computer? I went to privacy and security settings but can't figure out what to change. Safari won't even close properly now, I had to do a force quit.Help please, Jean -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups MacVisionaries group. Re: muting voice over speech
I've set up a keyboard commander for this, or you could assign the command to a braille key combination. Or, you can hit vo-h, then h again, go into the audio menu, and find the mute option you want. Of course, if you mute speech or Voiceover and have no command to un-mute it, you'll be stuck. On Nov 22, 2013, at 9:52 AM, Antonio M. Re: strange safari problem
Hi, Jean, Some of these suggestions might sound boneheaded, but they’re worth a try. Reboot your computer and see if things act normally again. If this doesn’t work, you may have to reset safari. Go into the Safari menu in the menu bar and find “reset Safari”. There are a number of options in this dialog. You could start with the least disruptive options, like resetting website warnings or resetting all warnings. HtH, Teresareset Safari. On the other hand, there are different fingers. Re: muting voice over speech
You can set up a keyboard commander. Go into vO utility with VO-f8. Find the commanders area and make sure keyboard commander is enabled. The commands will use a modifier key. The default is right option, but you can choose another. Go to the add button and press it. Type the key you want to use. I use V.. Press the menu button popup next to it. This is a list of VO scripts. you’ll have to find the audio submenu and use right-arrow to go into it. Find “mute speech toggle and press VO-space to choose it. You will now be able to toggle speech on or off with this command. htH, Teresa On the other hand, there are different fingers. pages question
All: I want to take some documents from my computer and read them on my i phone. I am told that one way to accomplish this is to import the documents into pages on the i phone where they can be edited etc. However, pages only gives two choices for adding documents, one is from i tunes and the other is through some kind of server that I don't understand. I was really hoping that dropbox would be an option but it isn't unless there is a way to add dropbox to the choices available. So what is the best way to import these documents? If I tunes is the only way to do it, could someone give me step by step directions for how to put documents in i tunes? I tried adding them to the library but they don't show up. Re: pages question
Hello Jean, To use iTunes to transfer documents to Pages on your iPhone, connect your iPhone to your computer and select it in the Sources table. Select the Apps, tab and interact with the scroll area. Go to the second table which is the apps that can share files with your computer. Select Pages and then click the Add. button. A file browser will open and you can select any file from your computer in the normal way. do you use icloud, if so, you can save them in icloud, go to pages on the iphone, give it a second to sync and they will appear, emailing them is a good way if you don't use icloud. iPhone Cases
Hey all, I have never had a case for any of my iPhones, as I don't drop them. I now have the 5S, and with it being so light it actually almost popped out of my hands a couple of times. I am thinking about getting a case, and was curious do any cases out there have speakers built in to them, I haven't been able to find anything, but thought there is probably something. Also does anyone have a case with any cool features like a rechargeable battery or anything else? Would love to get a case that does just more than protect the phone. Yes, I did that first because actualy that's always been the most reliable way for me. Shows it as being greyed out actually. The attachment is normal on all other devices, not weird imbedded object or anything. But the mac only sees it in the headers. Amadeus Pro Channels Question.
Hello everyone, When recording with Amadeus Pro, my sound input and output filter through the left and right speakers respectively. Selecting the “sound tab in the preferences pane, then choosing either “input” or “output” and changing the channel to “center” does not solve this problem. When seeing if my change has been accepted, to my dismay it has not - in fact it seems to revert back to the default setting for each element. Re: Help needed please to open attachments in mail with Mavericks
You should always be able to save with save attachments in the file menu even if you can't open it. Be sure to go down below save to save attachments. As for opening rather than saving, if you interact with the text and move very slowly, you can often, but not always, get on the attachment. Then usually it's now better to do vo-shift-m for the context menu and choose open from that instead of vo-space. This doesn't always work though and to compound matters, I find that people's attachments are placed close together or so near other text that it is hard to get focus on it. Also it may say attachment image which I think is different than what it said in Mountain Lion, but you should be able to open it or at least save it with save attachments -- Cheryl May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable to You, Lord, my rock and my Redeemer. Re: which macbook is this?
The current list of Apple Refurbished MacBook Pro laptops all show up as June 2012 release models. Most are 4GB of memory with Dual-Core Intel Core i5 processors, but a few have 8GB of memory with the Dual-Core Intel i7 processors. Re: Help needed please to open attachments in mail with Mavericks
Well what you should be able to do and what you can do don’t seem to work. And, I found out that this is a known bug that plagues some folks back in to Lion. So here’s the fix, and it did work for me at least. You create a message rule. If all conditions are met, all attachments containing “.” mark as read. This apparently forces Mail to acknowledge that there was an attachment. It marks the message to a different color, you could do any color change and it will work, and the little paperclip icon reappears. That’s what’s missing. It’s not a VO issue at all. Sighted people are having the same problem. But I’ve now got easily accessible attachments all over the place like I used to have in Mountain Lion. It took a few times for me to get the rule correct. The attachment name is a period surrounded by quotes BTW since that probably didn’t read for you if punctuation is limited. My problem was that sometimes I didn’t even know if there was an attachment for sure. Now the attachment icon has reappeared and I’ll know. As I said, my sighted co-worker is experiencing the same thing and will apply this fix as well. apple needs to apply it, LOL. Re: What do all of you guys think of this?
Hello Karen, With respect, that is a distorted view. It is not just the 4 digit PIN. A hacker has to be within the network of the keychain. Or they have to know their cloud credentials. So if I know Bob next door, uses iCloud and I want to have a go at hacking his keychain. I would need to know the email he chooses to use with iCloud, then his password and then finally his 4 digit PIN. Okay. 1. Open ITunes. 2. Focus on your Music collection and, select the songs or albums radio buttons just to the right. 3. Now, navigate to the table that shows itself according to the radio button you’ve selected. 4. Now, press cmd+A to select all. Now, press the delete key. 5. Answer yes at the confirmatory dialog for deleting. You should then be presented with another dialog which asks whether you want to send the files to the trash or keep them. Your choice here. HTH. Amadeus Pro
Hello Max, Amadeus Pro is $59.99 and Amadeus Lite is $24.99. Both versions are available at the Mac App Store, so you can check prices and reviewers' comments. However, they also offer a 25% educational discount for students. Since the Mac App Store cannot handle educational discounts, such purchases have to be made directly from the developer's web site. Here's the relevan information from their site: • Is there an educational discount available? Yes, a 25% discount is available for students. Just send an email from your university address to mar...@hairersoft.com asking for a discount coupon. It is unfortunately not possible to offer educational discounts through the Mac App Store, so this voucher only works on the HairerSoft webstore. You will almost certainly want to get the Pro version, in order to do multi-track editing, batch processing, recording Internet streams, and a few other such functions that are not supported by the Lite version. You can download trial versions of both Pro and Lite from the web site: • Amadeus Pro download page: http://hairersoft.com/pro.html#4 • Amadeus Lite download page: http://hairersoft.com/lite.html#4 There's also a How to be Blind podcast on using Amadeus Pro that Mike did, and posted about earlier to this list: http://htb2.com/tag/amadeus-pro/ There are links to download and play on that page. Other popular sound editing software that list users like are Sound Studio (also available for the Mac App Store) and Audacity (free and cross platform). I' m cutting and pasting from old mail archive list posts (not giving the links, because the original thread included Mike's podcast in Dropbox link that no longer works), so I'll also paste in information about what Amadeus Pro has that is not in Audacity. (If this reply should be updated in view of more recent changes, someone can correct me.) Alex asked what features Amadeus Pro has that are not in Audacity. Some of these include batch processing, toolbar buttons for adding/splitting/deleting tracks, fading in/out, and access to metadata/info, ability to join a batch of files together at once, controls and shortcuts for extending sound to particular marker-points (demonstrated in Mike's podcast, also in the reply I wrote to Chris Hallsworth's query about ringtone creation on the Mac-access list, since this bit is all excerpted from my archived reply to his post on macvisionaries), more custom controls for trimming silence, denoising, and automatic splitting (for example, at silence points.) I think it does better on multi-channel editing and recording. Audacity is a good, free, cross-platform editor, so there are advantages to using it on multiple operating systems. Amadeus Pro is optimized for the Mac GUI. HTH. Cheers, Esther -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups MacVisionaries group. No, that's a different feature, but one you also enable in the iPhone's iCloud preferences. If you get the Find my Phone app from Apple (free), you can locate any of your devices that way. resetting safari
Hello Theresa and All Theresa, there are no boneheaded recommendations and yours was certainly one that could be easily overlooked. I have tried it though to no avail. Before I reset Safari, which appears to be necessary, what are the steps? I opened up the dialogue to have a look and got as far as it saying you can't undo this process or something, and stopped. I don't want to lose my bookmarks that is for sure. It sounds as though warnings should be reset although it is actually preventing me from connecting to pages even when I tell it to continue. Maybe the question is really does resetting safari do anything to bookmarks? What else should I know? Installing OSX on a 2TB WD Drive
Hi, I have a Western Digital 2TB MyPassport USB external drive, and I’m trying to install the latest OS 10 onto the drive. I formatted the drive as Mac Extended, Journaled, and made 1 partition, also formatted as Mac Extended, Journaled, and set in the options to use the G U I table scheme. Clicked on apply and it reformatted and created the partition. When I install the latest OSX from the Appstore, it acts as if it will install to that disk, but after reboot, it’s suppose to take at least an hour or so, and the setup assistant is suppose to come up. The computer, instead, immediately boots into the login screen, as if the operating system had never been installed on the internal drive, so it boots from the internal. In startup disk, the external doesn’t show up as a disk to boot from. Not sure what else I can do. more on safari problem
Hi: Ok I reset Safari twice but that hasn't solved anything. The warning says that Safari can't establish a secure connection to whatever server belongs to the web page I am trying to open. It also says things like certificates are invalid or that site has no certificate. This seems to me like something in privacy and security settings got disrupted. I went there but can't make any sense of the options. It does seem to open at least some of the sites in my bookmarks but this is really a pain. Other ideas? Please go into system preferences, then to date and time. From your email, your date is behind by over a year. Once you fix that, check the box that tells it to set automaticly. Tyler: That fixed it, well done! You were correct, my date and time were not set correctly and I put it on automatic. Sometimes things get a little weird when changing time zones.
