I actually was thinking about the new male voice they came out with a

Re: Alex on IOS 8

2014-06-21 Thread Krister Ekstrom
I do like Daniel on any given platform, in fact i love the Realspeak or
whatever they are called voices simply because it's the only company that
provides Swedish voices for IOS if you don't want to go the Acapela route which
i don't want to since it's so full of mispronounciations and other bad stuff
that Nuance doesn't have. I use Alex as my english voice on the Mac since i'm
too lazy to switch to another english voice. Personally it doesn't matter what
voices are available, if they're good i use them if they're not i don't care. I
could wish that the Ivona or the Loquendo voices were available for the mac and
the IPhone cause i want to hear their swedish voices, other than that, speech
synths are a personal preference, so therefore i think this discussion is
pointless.

more questions about braille displays

2014-06-21 Thread alia robinson
I like to research thoroughly before any purchase. I have asked about certain
displays etc, and think I am decided on a braille edge.

My question is general for those who have opinions pro or con. braille displays
are expensive, and have a lot of moving parts. I worry about reliability. Is it
worth it? I am also a fairly medium speed braille reader. I can do
significantly more and go faster with voiceover. for those who use a lot of
braille how do you feel about how productive it is? is it slower for you? I
love braille, but my big question is do I want to go to something that is
slower than voiceover. I guess I am looking for a pro/con list of getting a
display from those who use one. thanks all.

Re: more questions about braille displays

2014-06-21 Thread Teresa Cochran
I much prefer Braille for reading over audio. And now, hearing loss has made
Braille even more important for me. I wish displays didn't have so many moving
parts, but since they do, and Braille is very important to me, the hassle is
worth it. Using Braille with OS X and iOS is different from Windows, naturally.
I guess it's simply a matter of personal preference. If you rely heavily on
Braille, then the current technology is useable, if not ideal.

You might find out from dealers and manufacturers what their repair and
maintenance policies are. Freedom Scientific has a flat repair program, which
allows you to have the most common repairs done for a flat fee. I don't
remember what that fee is at this point, but I paid $250 US several years ago
for a cleaning and battery replacement. Or you can get a display that has
easily replaceable batteries. Think about the ways you would use a display. Do
you want one with a book reader and storage card? Do you want portability?

I'm sorry I can't help you with the specific model you're considering, as I
don't have any experience with it.

HtH,
Teresa

Any help in getting to grips with this app?

I do too, although I am liking audio more lately with the bard app. I just
don't know about having an expensive specialized piece of equipment. I am so
torn, and I know voiceover isn't supporting braille as much as they do the
audio part of voiceover.

Re: more questions about braille displays

2014-06-21 Thread Teresa Cochran
I read lots of books with my Braille display using Kindle, iBooks, and Bard. I
only read audio books when I can't get them in Braille or I don't want to pay.
(or can't pay). I'm such a Braille fanatic that I use my Focus 40 Blue with my
iPod. I was never sure I wanted to scroll a whole bunch with a small Braille
display. So carrying around a 40-cell one is no big deal for me, as it might be
with others. Of course, I'm still used to carrying around my Braille Lite 40,
which is much heavier than a Focus 40 Blue. If there's a way you can try
reading books with a display, or working with it otherwise, you might get a
better idea of what you want to do by doing so.

Re: more questions about braille displays

2014-06-21 Thread Les Kriegler
Hi Alia,

My frame of reference on this is that while I have read braille for well over
50 years, when speech came along, I used that without braille for quite some
time. I view braille as a supplement to speech. I also believe that reading
braille on paper is not the same as reading on a braille display. Having said
this, I will tell you that for lengthy reading I typically use speech. I also
agree that Apple's implementation of braille needs work, and because of this, I
don't care to read lengthy documents on Apple devices. I tend to use braille
much more with Windows. I do appreciate the ability to either e-mail or text
in braille. I think Teresa provided sound advice. It's always good to
evaluate how you will use the display. Then you can determine how important
those functions are to you and whether it justifies the expense of purchasing a
display. Good luck.

I am trying to transfer files from the Mac to my booksens DM flash drive and
for some reason the BookSens is not recognized when I plug it in via USB to
either the mac or the PC. Not sure why but it doesn't show up in the devices
list. In fact the devices list doesn't show up at all because there are no
other devices plugged in.

Anyone else have this issue? It's weird that it's not recognized on either the

Re: How to can't be downloaded songs from the Rhapsody app lying your iPhone 5s

2014-06-21 Thread Chris Moore
Hello Chenelle,
You can download songs from the rhapsody app onto your iPhone. But you can
only listen to them using the rhapsody app. The advantage to downloading is
that you don't need a network connection to listen to the songs you've
downloaded.

Remember that the rhapsody songs are not visible to iTunes.

If you are working on a large document that requires more than one work section

Can you use bookmarks on pages?

managing music library with iTunes Match on

2014-06-21 Thread Phil Halton
I just turned on iTunes match and everything went okay, putting my library in
the cloud and making it available on all my comps and devices. Now, I'd like to
clean out some albums and add some others. How do I
1) remove an artist or album from the library? do I just delete him/her from
within iTunes on my computer?
2) how do I add additional content? Do I just import an album as usual into
iTunes and it goes up to the cloud?

Thanks

Re: managing music library with iTunes Match on

2014-06-21 Thread Henry D. Hollithron
Good Day:

With iTunes Match enabled, you remove an artist or album as normally
through iTunes, except that there is an additional checkbox, Also delete these
songs from iCloud, which you would check in order to remove the content from
iTunes Match. As for adding, you need do nothing extra after importing the
music to iTunes. It will simply appear as available to download on your other
devices.

and has the perkins-style keyboard which is nice for typing on my

backing up with iTunes and iCloud together

So that I have two backup methods in case anything went wrong with the other.

If so, how would you do this and insure that both methods are up to date e.g.
in sync with each other.

Thanks in advance for any wisdom on the matter.

backing up a iPhone without iTunes?

2014-06-21 Thread Maria and Joe Chapman
HI.
Hi list.

Am writing this message for a friend. I don't know the answers as I have
iTunes and I am using a mac, he is using windows xp and currently doesn't have
iTunes installed.
ok.
1. We have enabled everything we can find on iCloud, is it possible to back up
apps this way without installing itunes?
2. We double tapped on the wifi sinc and it said to plug phone in to iTunes and
select wifi sinc.
3. Where is this option?
4. If the phone is sinked via wifi, does iTunes have to be kept on the
computer?
5. does the computer have to be on while the phone is being sinked wirelessly?
I think that's it if there are any more questions I will ask.
Cheers
