Re: Tunin Radio Pro.

2015-05-01 Thread Shawn Krasniuk
Hi Kawal. I thought they stopped supporting Tunein Radio Pro because I can't
find it in the app store anymore. I can find the free Tunein Radio app but
that's it. I thought they stopped supporting the pro version because they have
this thing called Tunein Radio Premium which is an in-app subscription service
but I could be wrong.

I already tried these suggestions, and not even they worked.

It's OK though, as I plan to hopefully get me an Airport Express fairly soon.

Jumping in here very late but I have had very mixed reliability with internet
sharing in OSX. You may want to try:

Turn off sharing in system prefs

Leave the wy-fy adaptor configured for DHCP and DNS automatically assigned
from your router (I assume the Mac has internet access OK)

Set the (wired) Ethernet adaptor to a static IP within the range of your
router’s IP addressed (198.x.x.x) and set the DNS to something like 8.8.8.8 or
8.8.4.4

Turn on sharing again and make sure wy-fy is shared to Ethernet.

Jeff, that would work, but the issue is, then, the receiver only would have
LAN access. I need a way to get not just LAN access to the receiver, but it
also needs to have specifically internet access, and with the way my office is
designed architecturally speaking, there is no way I could gain internet access
via ethernet without running cables along the ceiling, which isn't allowed.
And please do not tell me then get another office. I'm sorry, but the poster
who said that was totally out of line.

Here's the thing. Your suggestion is great, but correct me if I am wrong.
If I plug the ethernet cable from the Airport Express you suggested to the
receiver, that would then connect the receiver via a LAN, and give it a private
local area network IP. But then, I'd need a way to connect the WAN port of the
Extreme to the internet, which would mean connecting an ethernet cord from the
modem to the extreme, right? Well, if so, that isn't gonna happen. The modem
is on the same desk as my router which has to be sitting across the room from
the receiver. There's just no other way to do this, but to network bridge.

Re: Using google docs with voiceover

2015-05-01 Thread Tim Kilburn
Hi,

Navigating within the Google Doc itself is not near as efficient as doing so in
TextEdit or some other Word processor. When you first open a gDoc, focus is
normally put on the editable area. If you just arrow down you will hear a thud
then the text of the specific line that has keyboard focus. You can continue
arrowing down/up to hear whatever is on that line and arrow right/left to go
character by character. If you VO out of that area and take focus elsewhere,
it is often difficult, but not impossible, to get your self back in without
quitting and re-opening the gDoc. I admit that I’m not a user of QuickNav so
have not used it at all when navigating within various Google apps. I normally
just use the tab key, the return key, arrow keys and VO navigation when doing
so in Safari. Myself, I find it easiest to use a combination of Chrome with
ChromeVox and Safari with VO when working with apps in the Google Apps suite.

Regarding the menus, make sure that Screen Reader Support is enabled when you
enter into your gDoc then doing as you’ve mentioned usually works for me. That
is, VO-space to activate the menu, then VO-arrows to navigate through the
options.

HTH.

create documents, name them, and copy-paste text into them from
textEdit. The reason behind using TextEdit to write the document is I
am unable to navigate in the document to make changes after typing it
in google docs. How do I do this? That is, How do I navigate to a
particular line or a word after typing it and edit it? How do I add
specific comments by selecting text in the document? As of now, I am
using the Docs app on iOS to select text and add comments. How ever, I
would be more comfortable to do this on my computer keyboard (if there
is a possibility).
I am unable to access the options in the menus. I just hear the sound
VO makes when a PopUp box is activated and the first few options in
the menu when I press down aero(QuickNav turned on) or VO+Down Aero
(QuickNav off) after activating the menu. How do I do this?
Specifically, I would want to export the document and share it with
others in most cases.
Any help or suggestions would be of great value.

The main difference between the three, as I remember, is:

1. Airport Express is simply an extender,

3. The Time Capsule is a router, wifi and disk drive.

I suspect you can use the drive as a regular drive, but I'm only using mine for

How To Install iPhoto in Yosemite (OS X 10.10)

For whatever reason you've wound up here (probably not a fan of Photos) -
this step-by-step guide will show you how to install/re-install iPhoto on
your Mac running Yosemite (OS X 10.10.x)

After Photos came out, you might have noticed that iPhoto no longer wanted
to run.

Trying to update.

. seems to be futile.

Fear not. Following these instructions, you'll have iPhoto working in
Yosemite in no time.

NOTE:
Apple is sending a clear message - iPhoto is gone. It's unlikely that it'll
receive another update (perhaps bugfixes, feature updates far less likely)
and it would seem the future is Photos. Once you have iPhoto working
again, maybe you'll want to take a closer look at Photos. Maybe not.

Regardless - here are the steps to turn iPhoto back into a functional App.

1.
Click the Apple Icon in your Menu Bar and select App Store..

2.
The App Store will open.

3.
Click Purchases.

4.
If you aren't signed in, you'll be prompted to do so. If you're already
signed in, skip the next step.

5.
Sign in with your Apple ID

6.
Now scroll through your list of Purchases. Locate iPhoto.

7.
Click the Update button.

8.
If all goes as planned, your Mac is now downloading and installing a
functional version of iPhoto.

Congrats! You're done. To everyone else: there's a big chance it isn't
working. Give it a few minutes, but if the update doesn't seem to be
happening - fear not - and keep reading.

9.
Exit out of the App Store, and close down all open Apps (saving work if
needed etc). Open your System Preferences and locate the Users Groups
option. Click it.

10.
In order to make changes (or add a user, which is what we'll be doing) -
you'll probably need to Unlock this section first. Click the Lock icon in
the bottom left corner of the screen.

11.
Enter your password.

12.
Now click the plus sign ( + ) directly below the Login Options text (as
illustrated in the screenshot below).

13.
What you'll be doing is creating a new account, installing iPhoto on it, and
then your account will wind up with a functional version as well. So create
the user and make sure the New Account: is set to Administrator. The Full
Name and Account Name can be anything you'd like - this account will be
deleted after iPhoto is working again. Make sure you select Use separate
password, enter it twice in the spaces provided, and then click Create User.

14.
Now the new User account you just created will be listed with the other
accounts on your Mac.

15.
You may want to read the rest through before you actually follow the steps -
you're about to sign out of your account and will need to close this browser
window to do so.

16.
Exit out of the System Preferences, and log out of your account by selecting
the Apple Icon and then Log Out.

17.
Sign in to the new account you just created. Once again open the App Store,
sign in, go to your Purchases and locate iPhoto. Click the Install button
next to it.

18.
Shouldn't take too long - it will depend on the speed of your Internet
connection. May want to grab yourself a beverage.

19.
After the installation has completed sign out of your new account, then
back into your regular account. iPhoto no longer has the this isn't going
to work icon!

20.
Launch it as you always have, and enjoy!

more on lack of sound and haptic feedback after workout on apple Watch

2015-05-01 Thread Donna Goodin
Hi all,

I just wanted to send an update and ask for some action among those of you
interested in this issue.

First, my original contact never did follow up with me, so George, thanks for
posting the Apple Care number.

I was fortunate this afternoon to connect with someone at apple Care who is
also on the accessibility team. He was very nice and very helpful, though he
was ultimately unable to resolve the issue. He said that currently the watch
does not provide sound or haptic feedback at the end of a workout. He has
suggested that anyone who would like to see this feature, whether or not you
currently own an Apple watch, please send comments requesting that feature to
http://www.apple.com/feedback. So, if having some sort of haptic or sound
alert to indicate the end of a timed workout is something you would want to see
in the Apple Watch, I hope you will take the time to submit feedback. He said,
as we all know, that the more feedback received on a given software issue, the
higher a priority it is given.
Best,
Donna

Re: Major trouble with internet: Warning: not for the basic user!

2015-05-01 Thread Sabahattin Gucukoglu
The USB port on the Express is for a printer, yes. Not a disk.

Sadly, no AirPort product can turn any printer into an AirPrint printer; now,
*that* would have been quite something. But these days all Wi-Fi printers
support AirPrint. I went for an HP LaserJet Pro MFP M125MW which is very
accessible, if a little pricey.

The two Ethernet ports on AirPort Express are Fast Ethernet. Bear this in mind
if you are using the ports for bridging on your LAN. The Extreme and Time
Capsule Ethernet ports are of course gigabit: four each.

A discovery on the Apple Watch.

2015-05-01 Thread Kawal Gucukoglu
Hello.

I have had my watch since Monday and after getting use to the concept (although
I haven't been able to read the manual yet) but thanks to David Woodbridge
podcasts, I am now getting on better with my watch.

A cool thing I discovered today was, if I press the Crown twice, I immediately
jump into settings. I thought that was a cool thing.

The only thing I can't seem to find is the Ping feature that David was talking
about on one of his podcasts.

As a whole, I am liking the product.

Kawal.

Re: A discovery on the Apple Watch.

2015-05-01 Thread Daniel Miller
Hi, the reason why you jumped back in the settings when you press the digital
crown twice is because it takes you between your clock face, and your last used
app. As far as the ping feature goes, it's in The settings glance. Swipe up
with two fingers to go to glances, then swipe left or right with two fingers
into you get to the settings clients. It should be one of the options in there.

Re: how to use windows on mac

2015-05-01 Thread Grant Hardy
You don’t really have to turn off VoiceOver, but it’s generally best if you do.
This is mainly due to the fact that VO specific keystrokes, and in fact any
keystrokes where CONTROL and OPTION are held down, won’t be passed to Windows.
For example, if you have CONTROL+ALT+J set up to open up your Windows screen
reader, that command won’t work while VoiceOver is on because the system will
interpret that key as a VoiceOver command.

In general you can use Windows exactly the same way that you normally would.
The COMMAND KEY acts as your WINDOWS KEY, while the OPTION KEY acts as your ALT
KEY. This includes installing your screen reader any normal way that you
usually would, such as downloading an executable file, opening File Explorer,
navigating to the folder where that executable file is stored, then hit ENTER
to start the install. The only thing you’ll probably have to do is remap one
of the keys on your keyboard to act as your screen reading key, because CAPS
LOCK doesn’t get passed through to your virtual machine by default. The common
practice has been to remap a key like the GRAVE ACCENT KEY to become an INSERT
KEY, which you can do in VMWare’s preferences. As well, with third party
software you can also use the CAPS LOCK KEY as your screen reading key, a
method I’ve covered recently on this list. If you search the archives, you can
find information about both of these methods. If you’re stuck, feel free to
reply and we’ll provide more information. I have really been meaning to
document all of this in an article or something so it’s easy to find. I got
started with VMWare mostly with trial and error until I found what works best.

Kawal,

Re deleting Stocks,
1. with the clock face showing, press and hold. You'll hear sort of a beep
and chirp.
2. Swipe left and Tap when you hear customize.
3.Swipe down till you get to the region where Stocks is.
4. You can select a different option by turning the digital crown to the right
or left.
5. when you've got the option you want, just press on the crown until you get
back out to the watch face. You should see your new option where Stocks used
to be.

I'm using the Modular clock face also, and this worked for me. Good luck!

A cool thing I discovered today was, if I press the Crown twice, I

The only thing I can't seem to find is the Ping feature that David was

As a whole, I am liking the product.

So, if having some sort of haptic or sound
alert to indicate the end of a timed workout is something you would want to
see in the Apple Watch, I hope you will take the time to submit feedback. He
said, as we all know, that the more feedback received on a given software
issue, the higher a priority it is given.
 Best,
 Donna

Apple Watch and Maps

2015-05-01 Thread Jenine Stanley
So today I tried the trick David Woodbridge demonstrated in one of his recent
Apple Watch 101 podcasts of getting directions from the Maps app on my phone
and transferring that to the Watch.

This went just fine.

Then I wondered what would happen if I just opened the Maps app and started
walking. Would it be picked up by the Watch?

Unfortunately I was riding on a bus when this notion struck me and using
bluetooth headphones.

So I turned on Maps on my phone and just let it run. Unlike the directions, the
app wasn’t just handed off to the Watch. I went into the Maps app on the Watch
though and could hear my location but then it kept saying “Cannot load maps
because this Apple Watch is not connected to your iPhone.”

Hmmm, thinks me. I checked the bluetooth settings on the phone and sure enough,
there was Jenine’s Apple Watch stating it was connected.

I checked the bluetooth settings on the Watch and found only my headset
connected.

Unfortunately I didn’t have time to test what would happen if I was walking and
turned off the headset.

What I’m hoping will happen with either the Maps app on the Watch or some
sharing/handoff feature with the Maps app on the iPhone, is that with tracking
set to on for the Watch and On with Headings on the phone, streets will be
announced as I come to them when walking. Since I walk in mostly quiet areas,
hearing them on the Watch itself without headphones will be possible. I’ll also
try this with the headset in noisier areas to see how just having the Maps app
on the phone works.

Has anyone tried this stuff yet?

I find that my GPS needs rarely involve specific routes but more like a desire
to know where I am as I move along.

Re: More Nisus writer questions.

2015-05-01 Thread David Griffith
I am presuming that you know that you get the word count by making the
Statistics window visible. You can make this visible by going to the window
menu and under palettes pressing enter on statistics.

Then you can consult the word count at any time by bringing up the window
chooser and switching to the statistics window.
When you bring up window chooser you will hear the name of your document in one
window and the statistics window will be labelled by the number of characters
in your document. However switching to this window will enable you to also
check words paragraphs etc as well.

Personally` I use Numpad commander so I can bring up the window chooser simply
by pressing the slash key on the numpad so access to the statistics window
is pretty slick and easy but you could also assign a keystroke to window
chooser in keypad commander. Perhaps option W which would be useful in more
applications than Nisus.
