Re: Attention Aleeha Dudley

2016-10-15 Thread Scott Granados
Actually, I don’t think talking about email security is off topic but yes, as
usual, Chris was his usual hostile self.

That being said, let’s bring it squarely back on topic with that’s a fairly
nasty worm. Tim was dead on the money. They try with fishing expeditions to
get people to click on links. This particular one looks like it may be ransom
ware which takes over a person’s computer and then encrypts the contents of
your disk. YOu’ll be told to call a number and the person, usually in India
will tell you for $400 you can have the issue fixed. If you pass and call bak
in later the cost will have jumped to $800 and so forth. It’s a serious
serious problem. Many institutions including some major hospitals out west had
their entire networks infected.
To Aleeha who likes like she might have been targeted, it’s possible
you weren’t hacked at all. Many of these bad guys use email addresses they
find in the wild to formulate a message that looks like it comes from you so
your friends will trust the link and click on it. You’ll also see this done in
the name of many large banks, power companies or other organizations. the idea
being if you see something you trust like your bank again you’ll click. It’s
quite devious and a major security issue. Aleeha it sounds like you’ve done
the right thing, I just might add scan your system for malware as an extra
precautionary step but changing your password was a good start.

Hi Chris,
You can do system audio and mic with audio hijack. You can also do a hell of a

Audio Hijack is, pretty much, the answer to Virtual Audio Cable on the Mac,
except it’s less complicated.

Hi,

Sounds like a phishing expedition. These have found there way to gMail, Google
Apps and other big eMail providers. They are designed to get you to login to a
fake web page with your gMail, Live or whatever account. They will then gain
access to your password, your contacts and much more. Often they will change
some things in your eMail settings like your return address, and/or set up
filters or blocks to further mess with your account. If you didn't login,
you're fine. The best thing to do from the prospective of the affected user is
to change your password, as was already done, but to also set up two step or
two factor authentication. This usually will make it so that this sort of
attack is no longer an option.

My opinion exactly. I do apologize. Things can happen, even to the best of us.
I have change my password, and done what I can to take care of it. That's all I
can do. Next time, a private message might be nice, rather than publicly
blasting me on the listserv.

Hi all,

So I thought Netflix recently lost a lawsuit and is supposed to be becoming
more accessible?

I keep having problems accessing it from my Apple TV. When I click on
either my husband's or my profile, I'm taken to the Popular on Netflix
screen, and there doesn't seem to be any way to access the recently viewed
shows in that profile. Is anyone else experiencing this? Anyone know of a
solution?

TIA,

Attention Aleeha Dudley

2016-10-15 Thread Christopher-Mark Gilland
I just received an off list message from Aleeha Dudley, who I know is on this
list. The odd thing is, rather than showing the message, there is a link I have
to click to view the message. When I scanned the link before openning it, it
didn't appear to be infected, so therefore I opened it. Now, it wants to give
something called Zorpia access to my Google account.

I'm not sure I feel comfortable doing that. I have no idea what Zorpia is.

Aleeha, I welcome you to e-mail me directly, but please don't send me anything
through Zorpia, until you further explain both what it is, and what your
reasonings were for sending that to me. Was that msg even legit?

My e-mail is:

clgillan...@gmail.com

Thanks.

Chris.

Re: Anyone else having issues with Netflix?

2016-10-15 Thread Donna Goodin
Hey Scott,

Didn't know the financial info, interesting. I hate to do it, we've been happy
with Netflix, but may be time to switch to Amazon.
Cheers,
Donna

Re: Anyone else having issues with Netflix?

2016-10-15 Thread Scott Granados
Donna, I think Netflix is more interested in making payroll at this point.:)
They are in a very tight position right now. They have to pay for creating
their own content and are competing with Amazon who has enough spare money in
their couch cushions to burry netflix. For example, they (Netflix) just paid
Chris Rock 40 million for 3 hours of programming. I have also heard they have
cut their catalog in half in recent days. I’m not saying they will go under
tomorrow but they aren’t the high fliers they were a short time ago.
Unfortunately, accessibility usually takes a back seat when they are more
concerned with things like keeping the lights on.
