Re: cycling through windows in finder

2018-12-30 Thread Lorie McCloud
it's kind of hard to explain. when I want to cycle through windows I use
command-tilde. when I want to open folders as I'm navigating to my desired
destination, that's when I use command-option-down arrow for open and
command-option-uparrow for close. I'm in list mode. I'll have one window
already open in say, downloads. then I'll cycle to another window say in my
external hard drive. once I'm in there I need to navigate to the folder where
I'm going to copy or paste a file from downloads. sometimes I have to go 2 or 3
deep to get to the desired folder. then as I would cycle back through the
windows heading for downloads, I would hit every window I had to open to get to
the desired folder. I wanted to find a way of reducing the number of windows I
had to cycle through. if I remember to use command-option-down arrow as I'm
navigating, that seems to do the trick.

RE: cycling through windows in finder

2018-12-30 Thread M. Taylor
Hello Lorie and thank you for this info.

However, I am not certain that I understand the scenario to which you are
referring.

For example, when I need to copy and paste files between finder windows, I use
Command+~.

I don't think I've ever used Command+UpArrow.

Can you please describe why and how this scenario plays out in a sequence of
steps?

Thank you,

Mark

I figured out something I want to tell you all about in case anybody's
interested. I had been asking about how to have most or all of the windows
closed except for the 2 that I wanted to copy and paste between. I used to be
able to do this but now all the windows I was navigating through to get to my
destination had become part of the cycle. somebody here mentioned opening and
closing windows using command-down and up arrows. I had been doing this without
the option and including it in the command has cleared up the problem for me.
it kind of closes the door or window behind me.

RE: An App store question

2018-12-30 Thread M. Taylor
Hello Kristeen,

As yet, I have not encountered this problem on my Mac in OS Mojave.

Which Mac OS are you running?

Have you tried resetting your home network? This is to say, rebooting your
router?

This has worked for me when I've encountered it on my iPhone.

Also, have you tried downloading a free app to see if it will connect?

If you have time, try redownloading an app on your iPHone/iOS device to see if
it works.

I am signed into my iCloud account. My payment information is updated and all
correct. Everything seems fine, but I cannot download, or rather, re-download
an app I want. It allows me to press the re-download button and then it gives
the message “cannot connect to the app store”. There is no more information
anywhere. I have googled and gotten nowhere. Does anyone know what I might try.
This has been going on for a few days now. I have rebooted the system, but this
does nothing.

RE: I need help getting from Lion to Sierra after reformatting my hard drive

2018-12-30 Thread Simon Fogarty
Hi Jerry,

Easy enough to do if you have the sierra installer!

If you don’t then it’s trouble.

Either way it’s going to involve wiping your entire machine back to out of the
box state.

Do you by any chance have the sierra installer app available and are able to
create a USB Flash Drive installer.

RE: Logitech K375S Keyboard

2018-12-30 Thread Simon Fogarty
Hi Alex,

Interesting you say you have the k380,

I stepped up a model and ended up getting the 380 as it does 3 devices rather
than the 375 doing only two.

I have had no issues with the windows and IOS connections but the mac os
connection is being nothing but painfull to setup.

Otherwise I’m pretty impressed by the board itself.

Subject: Re: Logitech K375S Keyboard

I don't know about that model, but I'm using a K380 multi-device keyboard. I'd
guess the two are similar. I currently have it connected to Windows and iOS,
and it works well on both. I did have to install the Logitech program to
control whether the function key is needed with the top row of keys on Windows,
but that was simple enough once I found out I needed it.

I haven't tried the keyboard on macOS yet, but I see no reason it wouldn't work
well enough. I did read somewhere that macOS can't see it as an official Apple
keyboard, so you can't control the use of the function key and will always have
to press it. That is, cmd-f5 becomes cmd-fn-f5, and there's no way to change
that. Of course, that was just on a forum, and may be outdated now. Still,
given how often VO users need the function keys, it's worth considering.

Sorry I can't answer specifically about the K375, but I hope my adventures with
the K380 are of some help.

cycling through windows in finder

2018-12-30 Thread Lorie McCloud
I figured out something I want to tell you all about in case anybody's
interested. I had been asking about how to have most or all of the windows
closed except for the 2 that I wanted to copy and paste between. I used to be
able to do this but now all the windows I was navigating through to get to my
destination had become part of the cycle. somebody here mentioned opening and
closing windows using command-down and up arrows. I had been doing this without
the option and including it in the command has cleared up the problem for me.
it kind of closes the door or window behind me.

Re: app for reading text files?

2018-12-30 Thread 'Devin Prater' via MacVisionaries
If on the Mac, TextEdit should be able to do this. If not, I use Emacs with
Emacspeak. You can have it save your place in a file. If on iOS, VoiceDream
reader is great for this, or you can convert them to ePub and use the Books app
to read them.

An App store question

2018-12-30 Thread 'Kristeen Hughes' via MacVisionaries
I am signed into my iCloud account. My payment information is updated and all
correct. Everything seems fine, but I cannot download, or rather, re-download
an app I want. It allows me to press the re-download button and then it gives
the message “cannot connect to the app store”. There is no more information
anywhere. I have googled and gotten nowhere. Does anyone know what I might try.
This has been going on for a few days now. I have rebooted the system, but this
does nothing.

Hi,
Hmmm.  Interesting.  I do this all the time with my iPads, but had not
tried it with my iPhone.  So, I just did, and it worked perfectly,
including the ability to record in QuickTime.

1.  Connect the iPhone to the Mac with the USB charging cable.
2.  Open QuickTime.
3.  Unlock your iPhone.  I'm not sure if this is necessary, but I do
it anyway.
4.  Up to the File menu and down to "New Movie Recording", or press
cmd-option-n.
5.  In the Show Captured Devices menu, select your iPhone.  It should
normally auto-select the iPhone for audio as well, but I'd confirm
just in case.

6.  VO-left to the Full volume button.
7.  Swipe around the iPhone screen and you should hear your iPhone
audio coming through the Mac.  The video probably is too, but we just
can't see that part :).
8.  On the Mac, VO-right to the Start Recording button and a QT movie
will be recorded until you press the Stop button.
9.  Press the Play button to watch your handiwork and save it if
you're satisfied.
I'm not sure what could be happening for you.  I use this method often
when doing presentations so that my iPad screen is projected.

Hi,

I'm not sure if this is necessary, but I do it
anyway.
4.  Up to the File menu and down to "New Movie Recording", or press
cmd-option-n.
5.  In the Show Captured Devices menu, select your iPhone.  It should
normally auto-select the iPhone for audio as well, but I'd confirm just
in case.

6.  VO-left to the Full volume button.
7.  Swipe around the iPhone screen and you should hear your iPhone audio
coming through the Mac.  The video probably is too, but we just can't
see that part :).
8.  On the Mac, VO-right to the Start Recording button and a QT movie
will be recorded until you press the Stop button.
9.  Press the Play button to watch your handiwork and save it if you're
satisfied.

I'm not sure what could be happening for you.  I use this method often
when doing presentations so that my iPad screen is projected.

Hi,
This is totally doable on iOS if you also have a Mac.  You can
connect the iOS device to your Mac with the USB charging cable.  Go
to QuickTime on your Mac and choose "New Movie Recording" from the
file menu.  In the resulting window, VO-space on the "Show Capture
Devices" pop-up and select the iPad or iPhone for both video and
audio capturing.  By default, the volume seems to always be muted,
so VO-left to the Full Volume button and press it.  Finally,
VO-right to the Start Recording button and press it. Because you are
doing a movie recording, you get both the video and audio from the
iOS device recorded by QuickTime.   Press the Stop button to end the
recording and edit/trim/save your product.
This appears to be more challenging on the Mac.  I can use an app
called Reflector to capture the video content, but the VoiceOver
Audio is more challenging.  I've got some ideas, but need to round
up a cable or two to test before I make any commitments as to its
usability.  The audio and video is mirrored when using

Happy new year and reflections

2018-12-30 Thread Yuma Decaux
Hi Everyone,

I'm about to close off for 2018, and wanted to wish all of you a happy new
year, the best opportunities knocking at your doors, and plenty of adventures
to come :)

I also wanted to share with you some reflections and an update on what's coming
up with Astreos.

Some of you may know, but the app has been featured across the world, in a
physics magazine in the UK, a Russian science magazine, Blind cool tech and
many others.

To keep pace with the feature requests, I have been working hard on a few
things, but thought it better to create a blog entry that you can read below:

https://www.oseyeris.com/post/a-look-back-and-the-expanse-of-astreos

Do keep up to date with what's happening as next year I'm adding a feature that
will blow away both astronomers and amateur users alike. In fact, this has
never been done in a space app, though quite a few features are already new and
unique.

I will be pushing some updates for those who are on the beta list as well, with
a new universal search feature as we have many mor objects available, now also
black holes. Imagine knowing where the center of our galaxy is, and seeing and
feeling the massive black hole that is residing right there, tearing stars
apart. I get a sense of the grandeur of the universe when I check it out.

In any case, logging off for this great year and wishing everyone the best for
the next :)

A++

Yuma
