Re: Google drive

2019-04-22 Thread Des Delgadillo
When this happens to me, it's usually because the GoogleDrive app has stopped
working. Try vo-m-m to bring up the menu and see if Backup & Sync is one of the
options. If not, the app has been shut down somehow, so relaunch it from the
Spotlight menu or from the applications folder.

You can also check your Drive settings from that same Backup & Sync menu. The
tab key is your friend once you get into the menu for B itself. Then make
sure you're Mac is set to sync and that your desired folders are selected to
sync.

Re: Subscriptions

2019-03-29 Thread Des Delgadillo
Hey there,

You can manage your subscriptions in the Apple Id section. It's a little
counter intuitive, but I access these settings through Apple Music under "my
account." Then "View Apple ID." If there's a quicker way to get there, would
love to know.

Seeking a Good Budgeting App for either Mac OS or iOS

2019-02-25 Thread Des Delgadillo
Hey there,

I have been playing around with Mint, but I find a lot of the features cause
the app to crash. I love everything about it in theory though. Can anyone
recommend a similar app that will allow me to add different accounts and be
able to keep track of expenditures?
For my small business, I use Freshbooks, but Mint was a great app for personal
budgeting. I’d like to find a good alternative if anyone cares to share.

Thanks,

Accessible Youtube to mp3 converter for the Mac?

2018-11-27 Thread Des Delgadillo
Hey all,
Usually when I need some audio from Youtube, I have no problem using Loopback
to record from Safari into Garage Band. Now, though, I'm working on a radio
demo and I need to download songs, and I figure it will take forever to record
each individual song only for me to end up using a 3-second clip.
So, can anyone recommend a good way to download Youtube videos? I used to use
anything2mp3.com but that doesn't work for me anymore.

IF it supports batch conversion and SoundCloud URL's, that's a huge plus.

Re: Team viewer or what can we use?

2018-11-26 Thread Des Delgadillo
Hey Ramy, please do let us know how this ended up working out for you. I'd love
to know that with Skype TeamViewer might be the solution I've been looking for.
In the past I quit using it because of its lack of useability. Perhaps with the
implementation of Skype it will be a different story.

Check out the system preferences under sound, output. When that happens for me

Re: Collaborating on Google Drive

2018-10-15 Thread Des Delgadillo
I don't have any links for you off the top of my head, but there are Google
Docs and Drive shortcuts all over the web and lots of great shortcuts
already exist.

I would definitely advise you to use alt + slash on Windows or opt+ slash
on Mac as this brings up the search box for the shortcuts and you can type
the setting instead of looking for it in the menu. for example, you can
type "share" instead of tabbing up to the share button. This works all over
the Google suite.

Also, Chromevox is my go-to screen reader. Jaws can get the job done with
most Docs and Sheets, but Chromevox I find is much better with Google since
it's their screen reader.

Feel free to email me off list if you have any questions. I use GoogleDrive
and its assorted products every single day for work and pleasure, so i know
a lot of shortcuts and would be happy to help out.
desdelgadi...@gmail.com is my email.

Thanks,

Re: An accessible place to create my Website

2018-08-26 Thread Des Delgadillo
Hey there,

I think WordPress is the solution you're looking for here. If you plan for
your website to just be a static portfolio, meaning you won't be updating
it on a consistent basis, WP would have quite a few templates that would
suit your needs.

If WordPress and all its features are too intimidating, there are numerous
portfolio creators on the web where you just enter your desired info and it
makes a generic albeit well-presented page.

VoiceOver Compliant CRM's

2018-08-08 Thread Des Delgadillo
Hi all,

I’m wondering if anyone here has experience with CRM, Customer Relationship
Management, software like QuickBooks or InToIt. I’m growing my small
copywriting business and need something to help me keep track of the invoices.
Right now I’m just using a standard invoicing Google template, but with more
clients I’m looking to make this as streamlined a process as I can.

I don’t have any issues spending money on a program like QuickBooks but I want
to make sure it’s accessible before I pull the trigger.

Can anyone share some advice with me on this? Alternatively, is there any blog
posts or anything that may offer some insight?

Thanks in advance,

Adding Songs to a Playlist using Spotify's Desktop Mac Application

2018-08-05 Thread Des Delgadillo
Hi everyone.

I'm hoping to add a few songs to a playlist but I can't figure out how to do
this on Mac. I just have Spotify, no extra third party extensions or anything
like that. Any shortcuts or hot keys I'm missing? I don't see how I can add a
song to a playlist anywhere in the desktop app.

It does. MarsEdit reads out the size and orientation info of the image
you're inserting.

Another great benefit of MarsEdit is the developer is very responsive and
open to implementing any accessibility advice. Right now I would say its
entirely useable, but good to know the developer is on your side should any
trouble come up.

Hi Daniela,

In my experience, Mars Edit from Red Sweater Software is a god-send when it
comes to WordPress. Incredibly accessible and you can sswitch between HTML and
rich text with one easy key stroke.

It's a paid program but definitely a worthwhile addition to any blogger's

Off Topic: Seeking a Windows List

2018-08-02 Thread Des Delgadillo
To all my Mac friends,

I recently got ahold of a Windows machine and I’m learning that the Mac
ecosystem has spoiled me indeed. I have a ton of questions that I want to ask
and wonder if anyone here can direct me to a good mailing list or website?

To give an idea, the last Windows version I’ve used was XP. Now I’m on 10 with
Jaws 18 and have little to no idea how anything works lol.

So any help is super appreciated. Please feel free to send the recommendations
off-list to cut down on traffic, since this is an OT post.

HI all,

I’m currently in the market for a Windows computer for work and I’m realizing

lack of foresight on my part.

Well, now I’m getting the new laptop and I would like the drive to work with

could create a partition, so that the partition would work across both

If you’re looking more to the blogging world, Mars Edit is the greatest and I

Re: Saving photos with unique name outside iphone

2018-05-14 Thread Des Delgadillo
Personally I would also enjoy a way to name photos that are already stored on
my iPhone. Much of my job involves content curation which requires me to be
aware of what photos are and I find that a tough task with iPHone since I can’t
rename the photos.

Does anyone have a good fix that they might be able to share? Some kind of
third party app, perhaps?

Google Accessibility Mailing List?

2018-05-13 Thread Des Delgadillo
Hi all,

As a big fan of this list, I wonder if there’s a similar one for Google
products? I have a few questions that I’d love to present but don’t want to
veer this list away from its intended purpose. If anyone can suggest such a
list, I’d be super appreciative.

Thanks,

Re: Braille Edge with Mac

2018-05-07 Thread Des Delgadillo
I’d love to see someone more knowledgeable take up this thread.

I used a BrailleEdge successfully with a Mac but all I really did was proofread
and did most of my typing with the actual Mac keyboard. Granted, this was my
first display I used this way and I don’;t claim to be a wiz by any stretch,
but I could never figure out how to do the following things:

Successfully navigate a Pages or Word file using the BrailleEdge alone
Navigate web pages using only the display
Make edits using only the display; I had to use the keyboard.
If anyone sees this who has more knowledge, this makes 2 posters who would
really value your insight. I’d love a resource to shortcuts or anything that
might make this an easier experience.

Best regards,

Re: Express VPN

2018-05-07 Thread Des Delgadillo
I can vouch for this and agree that it’s super accessible on the Mac side of
things, and this includes their Chrome and Amazon extensions. The price tag is
a little high, I think $12.99/mo, but it’s so easy to use and speedy that I
think it’s worth the price. And don’t forget the price gets cut down if you
bite the bullet and get an annual subscription.

Glad to hear it’s also accessible on the iOS side. I’ll be checking it out soon.

Am I late to the party or is Garage band now a horror show to use?

2018-03-26 Thread Des Delgadillo
All,

What’s up with Garage band? Whenever I try and use it, I always end up quitting
out of frustration. I’ll be in the smart controls, for instance, and it will
suddenly jump me to another part of the window and won’t let me go back until I
switch applications and then go back. I can’t even arm tracks for recording
before it does this, let alone cut and move regions around.

Is there something I’m missing, or an alternative? All I want to do is find a
nice recording program to get song ideas out of my head before I forget them,
which happens often.

I do have PT but I’m looking for something a little more simplistic, at least
for this stage of the writing process.

Thanks.

Can anyone provide some assistance on Google Sheets or any resources?

2018-02-21 Thread Des Delgadillo
Hi all,

I’m using Google Sheets more and more for work and although I have a strong
enough understanding, I’m still running into a few snags. I think a lot of it
is that I’m missing some basic shortcuts.

The most frustrating issue right now is when editing a sheet with multiple rows
selected, I can’t seem to edit each cell individually. So, for instance,
Chromevox will read “cell A1-A4 selected” but when I go to edit, say for
instance Cell A 2, it will automatically jump to A5, the first cell not in the
selection. I’m not sure how I can go cell-by-cell when this happens.

Can anyone suggest a good resource to better familiarize myself with the
shortcuts?

Alternatively, if someone is on here who is really proficient with Sheets, can
you email me directly at desdelgadi...@gmail.com
? This is a Mac list so I’d like to keep the
Google traffic to a minimum if possible.

Thanks so much everybody.

Funny to think Voiceover has better support for Sheets than it does Docs.

Question About Google Sheets on Mac - Maybe Someone can direct Me to a More Appropriate Group for this Question

2018-01-31 Thread Des Delgadillo
Hi all,

I’ve been spoiled by numbers, I suppose, but when I use Google sheets on my Mac
using Google Chrome and Chromevox, it doesn’t read the coordinates of the cell
I’m in. I would really like for it to at least tell me which column I’m
currently in so I don’t have to constantly go back to the top of the
spreadsheet and check. I hope this makes sense.

Is there a way to get Chromevox to announce this information, either through
Google Sheets’ accessibility settings or Chromvox’ own settings?

Thanks so much for any insight.

Is anyone else having issues reading Kindle books on iOS using a braille display?

2018-01-18 Thread Des Delgadillo
Not sure if this is just my issue, but whenever I read on the Kindle app and
reach the end of the page, continuing to pan doesn’t do anything and I’m unable
to continue on in the book.

Any ideas as to what could be causing this?

Alternatively, is there a way to make a braille display scroll automatically?

Thanks guys!

Sounds great.

Quick Question about Using an Apple Keyboard with Bootcamp

2018-01-14 Thread Des Delgadillo
Hi all,
I’m sorry if this question’s been asked before if there’s a good tutorial
available I’d love if anyone could point me to it.

I’m taking the plunge and installing Windows this afternoon, but before I do I
have a concern about the Mac’s keyboard working with Windows. I’ve read
somewhere that the applications key isn’t supported on the Apple keyboard. Is
there a way to re-map the apple keyboard for use on Windows so I have an
applications key and a modifier key for NVDA?

Seeking Tutorial on Numbers or Microsoft XL

2018-01-11 Thread Des Delgadillo
Hi all,

I’ve gotten quite used to Numbers because of work, but I’m far from a power
user. I’d certainly like to change that.

Does anyone know of a tutorial that will acquaint me with all the necessary
shortcuts and functions available in either Apple numbers or Microsoft XL? I
have both on my Mac and just want to master one or both. I was particularly
fond of Ann Robertson’s E-Book on Pages and wonder if something similar exists
for Numbers?

Any direction is super appreciated.

Best,

A few questions about using braille displays to browse the web

2017-12-04 Thread Des Delgadillo
Hi all,

Please forgive me for the basic question, but up until now I’ve only been using
my braille display with my iPhone and very occasionally to proof word docs on
my Mac. I’m wanting to use it more for browsing the web, maybe even using it as
a bluetooth remote of sorts when I’m too lazy to get up and walk to my laptop
because it’s 2017.

I notice when reading web pages that links are grouped on the same line. Is
there a way to navigate to a certain link and click it with only the display
without having to use the keyboard at all? I notice this same phenomenon with
the dock. Is this possible or am I just over-estimating the power of the
braille display?

If anyone can point me to some beginners guides, that might be really helpful
too.

Thanks in advance for all the direction.

Re: Question About Shortcuts While Interacting with Apple Music

2017-11-22 Thread Des Delgadillo
Jonathan,

Thanks so much for your direction on this. I really do appreciate it.

One more question, if it’s not too much trouble: Right now the script is set to
download the current track, but if I wanted to not download it and simply add
it to my Apple Music library, is there a command for that, or is downloading
the closest thing? Most of my library is in the cloud.

Thanks again.

How is everyone making ring tones these days?

2017-11-20 Thread Des Delgadillo
Hi all,

Ever since iTunes discontinued ring tone support, I’ve been wondering how
everyone’s going about making them? I used to just edit a quick tone and import
it into iTunes, which would then sync to my iPhone. Is there still a way to do
that, or is there an app I can download either on my Mac or on iOS? If I
remember correctly, all the ring tone apps on iOS weren’t the best with VO, but
that could have changed.

Fully Accessible Torrent Client (details inside)

2017-11-14 Thread Des Delgadillo
Hi all,

I’ve noticed that for the most part UTorrent is quite accessible on the Mac,
with one notable exception. When downloading torrent files, the user is able to
select which files in the torrent they’d like to download, so that if they’re
downloading a particularly large file, they don’t have to download the entire
thing but only what is selected. Unfortunately, there doesn’t seem to be an
accessible way to do this on UTorrent. Does anyone have any tips and tricks for
how to do this with the program, or are there any other programs that are more
usable than UTorrent? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Question About Shortcuts While Interacting with Apple Music

Not sure if this question has been brought up before, but I was wondering if
there exists any sort of script or any way of creating keyboard shortcuts to
better interact with Apple Music on the Mac? For instance, when I hear a song I

the same with adding songs to my library. Is this doable at all? At present,
I’d have to navigate to the actions menu and select “like” that way, which
isn’t the worst thing in the world, but I was just wondering if there was a
quicker way.

Thanks for any direction here.

Is it possible to Burn a Windows 10 DVD onto a Thumbdrive to Install on a New Mac?

2017-10-17 Thread Des Delgadillo
Hi all, please do bear with me as I’m not the most technologically-minded
person around, but I do pick things up pretty fast.

I have a Windows 10 install DVD, but my Mac doesn’t have a CD drive. I was
wondering if it’s possible to use a friend’s Mac to burn the DVD onto a thumb
drive and install onto my Mac that way? If so, how big of a flash drive would I
need to reliably achieve this task, and how would I go about actually doing the
burning process?

Also, if anyone has any resources on VM Fusion or any other kind of

Re: Collaborating on a Google doc using an iPad mini, iPhone, or a Mac

2017-10-11 Thread Des Delgadillo
Personally, ChromeVox is invaluable in learning Google Docs. I tried learning
it with Voiceover and I got nowhere. Your iOS experience may be better, as I’ve
heard lots of folks prefer it to the Mac with VO, but ChromeVox really isn’t
all that hard to learn and works like a charm in Docs, Sheets, and Drive. You
can even map the ChromeVox key to be the same as the VO key so you don’t have
to learn all that much.

Getting a Clipping Effect Whenever I Record on My New Mac

2017-09-25 Thread Des Delgadillo
Hi there,

Not sure if this is the list for this sort of thing, but it happens regardless
of the application I use, so I thought I’d take a shot.

I got a new Mac last month, a 2016 model that did away with the USB ports, so
whenever I want to use USB I need to use a special adaptor. Thanks, Apple. When
I record I use an XLR cable plugged into a USB interface. Whenever I record,
though, the microphone sounds overloaded even before I talk into it. Could it
be something with the USB adaptor not transmitting the signal fast enough or
something? I’m not a techie person so I”m aware that this sounds dumb. I’m just
not sure where to turn?

Feel free to ask for any specifics. I’ve tried recording on ProTools and Garage
Band and even just monitored the mic through loopback, all to the same effect.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Best,

—Des

Disabling Voiceover Command for Trackpad Commander

2017-06-07 Thread Des Delgadillo
Hi all,

Was wondering if it was possible to disable the aforementioned command — Vo +
counterclockwise turn on the trackpad? My trackpad is currently malfunctioning
so that ever time I hold down the VO keys the commander turns on and clicks on
everything. if there’s a way to disable this command from the VO utility or
elsewhere I’d really appreciate the fix.

Free/Cheap Audio Editor that Works with VO?

2017-05-08 Thread Des Delgadillo
Hi all,
i’d been using Protools for a few years until recently, as my student
subscription expired and buying at full price is out of the cards right now.
Looking for a good audio editor that works relatively well on Mac. I’m sure I
won’t find anything as feature-rich as PT, but any suggestions would help.
A lot of my work includes radio production and imaging as well as small PSA and
commercial production and occasional radio news packages.
And before anyone suggests it, the new Garage Band is really confusing me. Any
walkthroughs or tutorials available on that?

Thanks in advance.

Re: Accessibility of cutting the cord

2017-05-04 Thread Des Delgadillo
Usually with Hulu the shows that need a cable login are made available no more
than a day after it airs.
It’s not an Apple product but Chromecast has been my go-to lately, especially
if you have TV shows downloaded to your computer and you use a Chrome plugin
like Video Stream. That works really well on Mac and is super Voiceover
compatible.

Hi,
I’m not too familiar with Apple Script, but what you have in the line you sent
looks good.

Having it pause at end of song would be a great added function.

Thanks again for your help. I hope this script gets added to the repository.

Re: iTunes next song AppleScript via UI Scripting.

2017-04-24 Thread Des Delgadillo
Hi Jonathan,
Sorry for the delay in responding.
Thank you for the script. Getting the song information in a dialogue box would
be fine, it would even be ok if VO just read out the song title without
displaying a dialogue.
I have limited scripting knowledge but I will try to run this script today. Can
I just copy and paste the text of your script into the script editor?
Thanks again for doing this.

Jonathan,
I’ve never used the mini browser but I’ll play around with it today. Shouldn’t
be too much to learn.
Thanks for the recommendation. I’ll download the remote app shortly and let you

2017-04-14 Thread Des Delgadillo
Thanks Tim. Yes I have tried your script. My only issue is I wanted to use a
script like this in order to stream my iTunes playlist for a radio show, so a
break in the audio wouldn’t work in this particular scenario.
I think I will be using your script for recreational listening though. Thanks

Looking for a VoiceOver Script

2017-04-11 Thread Des Delgadillo
Hi all,
Not sure if there is a Vo script that does this, but I would like to be able to
hit a custom hot key and have Voiceover speak whatever track is going to play
next on iTunes. I know there are several scripts that voice the current song,
so I feel like maybe there’s an up next script out there? Maybe?
Any direction here would be appreciated.

Paragraph Styles in the New Pages

2013-12-10 Thread Des Delgadillo
I primarily use Pages for writing broadcast scripts and working on
screenplays, and not having to do either thing for a few months, I was
pleasantly surprised when I upgraded to the new Pages and found it
significantly less clunky than before. My only question is: Is there
still a way to create hot keys or shortcut combinations for specific
paragraph styles? I can't seem to find that functionality in the
formatter. Typically I use this to create shortcuts for elements of a
screenplay, since it gets very tedious very quickly to keep jumping
from formatter to page text since screenplay elements change so often.

If anyone can answer or point me in the right direction I offer the
sincerest gratitude.

I can grab that other external pretty easily. Would there be a way to come

Installing Mountain Lion on Partition (Probably a very basic question)

2013-04-26 Thread des delgadillo
Hi, all:
This might be a very basic question, but I've never done this before. I want to
install Mountain Lion on another partition of my internal hard drive. I'll try
my best to detail my situation.
What I want to do is install Mountain Lion, but have lion around in case I ever
decide to get ProTools. Right now, the hard drive has about 350 GB full and I
have about 400 GB of free space left on it. So what I want to do is get
mountain Lion installed on the second partition and get all my Lion settings
restored onto the second partition from my Time Machine backup. I want the
first partition, the one still running Lion, to take up as little space as
possible, since I won't be using Lion for a while.

Does this make sense to everyone, and if not, please let me know what questions
you have and I'll try and clarify. This is my first time doing this so I'm not
sure what information is necessary to help.

Thanks very much in advance,

Mac Volume Dying randomly

2013-04-23 Thread des delgadillo
Hi:

I've been having this problem for a while, but it's been getting more frequent
lately, so I figured I'd ask about it.
I'll be using my Mac with a set of external speakers, and when I unplug the
speakers to take the Macbook somewhere else, all sounds will just be gone. The
computer works just fine, but no sound, whether it's VoiceOver or any system
audio, just doesn't come through. After I restart, everything works just fine.
I had to restart my computer twice today because this happened.
Has anyone else had this problem or should I consult my local Genius Bar?
Update: It doesn't just happen when I'm going from external speakers to
internal speaker. Today the audio died while I was using the internal speaker.

Thanks a lot,

Re: Couple iWorks Questions

2013-04-12 Thread Des Delgadillo
Thanks very much. This is working rather nicely. I do have one problem
where at times I can't edit text where I should be able to, but using the
VO-Shift-Space command seems to fix that. Just out of curiosity, has anyone
else had that same experience? Why does it happen?

Thanks for the help.

Re: Convincing rehab services to purchase a Mac

2013-04-11 Thread Des Delgadillo
Hi:
An argument I presented in my proposal to California Rehab was the
added accessibility for Mac as compared to a machine running Windows
and Jaws. I'm a broadcast journalism major, so a Mac just made sense
in my case, because I'd need to do a lot of audio editing and
occasional video and photo work. Programs like that which also work
well with Jaws are hard to come by.
Although maybe your student isn't a broadcast major, but if you could
brainstorm some programs that would work better for them on Mac as
compared to Jaws, that may help to sway your Rehab people for the long
term.
Also present the other arguments shared here, though. My proposal used
a variety of arguments.
Also remember some counsellors have no idea about technology and how
far it has come. Sometimes this could be used to your advantage, but
sometimes it could also make it difficult to present your case. It's
about finding a balance.
Best of luck with this,

Re: Advice on live streaming a podcast

2013-04-11 Thread Des Delgadillo
BTR is a good option, but as I recall, it got pretty pricey if you
wanted a longer show, which is why I ultimately decided against it.
I'm not sure how accessible with VO the online switchboard would be,
but it allows you to see who's calling and basically screen your own
calls. If you manage to get it working, do drop us a line and let us
know how it went.
Another option I've tried is Spreaker radio. U-Stream is another
option. You can stream for as long as you'd like there, but your
viewers will see occasional ads during the broadcast.
What i ended up doing was found someone who didn't mind allowing me
access to his internet radio server and used NiceCast. Eventually I'll
link people to the stream on my site, but I haven't had the time to
actually organize a weekly live show as of yet. But it's nice to have
the option now.
Let me know if you have any more questions about the logistics of
doing the live setup.

Couple iWorks Questions

2013-04-11 Thread des delgadillo
Hello, all:
Few questions for you guys regarding accessibility and whatnot.
First, concerning Pages: As a broadcast journalism student we're required to
start writing our news scripts in a two-column format, meaning I'll have to
create a table and write certain information in each column. Thankfully I
practiced before I got assigned an actual script, because when I tried this in
Pages last night, I couldn't fill in the table at all. I couldn't even interact
with it. Am I doing something wrong or do tables just not work with Pages? And
if not, is there any other word processor I can check out that does support
tables with VO?

Second, concerning Keynote: I love it a whole lot more than I liked Powerpoint.
But I haven't created a presentation yet and I'll have to create one soon. Does
anyone have a comprehensive list of shortcuts or tutorial handy? That could
save me some time.
Thanks in advance,

Fading Out on Garage band

2013-04-01 Thread des delgadillo
Hi, list:
I've had this problem for a while, and I've largely learned to work around it.
Still, if there's a way to actually do it, I'd love to know.
Is there an accessible way to fade out individual tracks on garage band?
Whenever I select fade out from the track menu while positioned on a
particular region, the entire project fades out.
Has anyone else had this problem, or is it just me? If anyone knows how to do
this properly and with Voiceover, do let me know how you did it.

Thanks very much,

Re: Accessible blogging platform

2013-03-29 Thread Des Delgadillo
Hi:
I used Blogger for a long time, but when I wanted to give it an entirely
new look and feel I moved to wordpress and haven't regretted it in the
least. With Wordpress there are all sorts of great shortcuts for posting
media, should you want to incorporate those sorts of things into your blog.
You can customize your front page on Wordpress with a number of different
interactive widgets, something I had a lot of trouble with on Blogger. Just
make sure to tick the Accessibility option or something under the Screen
options tab. After that you should have no problems with wordpress.
Hope this helps,

work before I jump in.
