Re: WhisperSync for Voice.
Hi. I have tried using that with my Braille display and it works great! I can read in Braille until I get tired, then I can switch to audio right there in the app with no problems. When I want Braille again, I can switch back just as easily and the display will be where the Audible audio stopped. Jane On Feb 13, 2015, at 2:08 PM, Alan Lemly wale...@gmail.com wrote: I'll add to Myrna's comments below that WhisperSync is designed to allow sighted users who start reading a book visually to be able to move to their cars and take up at the same location in the Audible book with spoken narration. I imagine that this is where the Sync in the name originates. I expect this would also work if you're reading the Kindle version of the book with TTS in the Kindle app or reader although I have not tested this. I will say that one book I wanted to read was less expensive to get the Kindle version, add the Audible WhisperSync than what it would have cost to use one of my Audible credits. But I don't expect this will occur very often. Hi, WhisperSync refers to the Audible version of the book. So, if you purchase a Kindle eBook, and then you choose to purchase what they are calling WhisperSync, you would be purchasing the Audible version of the book. What you then have is an audio book, read by a human narrator, in the Audible format. You can play the Audible version in the Audible app on an I Device, or if you have an audiobook player, such as the Victor Reader Stream, the book can be played on such a player. If you have a Kindle, there is a built-in Audible app on it, as well. Myrna On Feb 11, 2015, at 5:17 PM, Kawal Gucukoglu kgli...@icloud.com wrote: Hello All. Re: reading bookshare xml files
The best way I have found to do this is to get Voice Dream Reader if you have a portable device like an iPhone iPad or iPod, get the book there and then save the library The book will then be in plain text on your computer and you can read it that way. Adding Content To Playlists
Hi everyone. I know there is a way to add items to a playlist by copying them from whatever location they are direct into the playlist after I hit the add to playlist button, but they don't always end up in the right place--usually at the end. Is there a better way to do this, short of going to Recently Added (which in my case has several thousand items since I am rebuilding my library) finding each file, and doing it via the context menu? Reading Subtitles
Is there any way to read the subtitles to a video in iTunes with Braille at all? Very curious, because there is this very fun-sounding DVD we got for Eric for Christmas--sounds like something I would thoroughly enjoy, in fact--but it's in Hindi with some English, but still. Trying to figure out any way I can follow along somehow. It's Dhoom-3 if anyone is curious and has ideas. :) Also, the music is fun. Skyrates Help - Yes Mac related
I have created a character at http://skyrates.net Ironically, the process is totally accessible! You can create the character from start to finish with only one audio captcha that is clear and easy to understand. Past that point, though, it's hard to play, I can't fly a plane, because of the flash, I also can't participate in chat beyond General. What I am wondering is if there is a way to make VO click on the right word, Roleplay, Help or whatever, so that I can switch to that chat window. For that matter, I am wondering if it's remotely possible to fly at all, or if I am just dreaming and I have to resign myself to plain old general chat. I use this link: http://skyrates.jusque.net/skylight/ to chat, if that helps and if anyone is willing to look at this. You can get yourself ready while the computer is going through the motions of shutting down so that your fingers are ready when the startup chime sounds. 4. Hold down those keys for about 3 or 4 seconds after the startup chime ends then release. 5. Wait for at least one minute then try pressing cmd-f5 to see if VO will start. If it doesn't start, then wait a another 30 seconds or so and try turning VO on again. 6. Once it's on, VO-space on the Continue button to choose English as your language or change as needed. After all that, it will download the installer from the AppStore and go through the re-installation process. It should restart after a while and you may need to turn VO back on so that you can determine its progress. After everything is done, it hopefully will be back to normal. Good luck. Later... Updating to Mavericks
Hi eveyrone. When I looked in the app store on this Macbook Pro I saw a button that let me upgrade to Mavericks, but when I look on my daughter's Mac, I don't seem to see it. Will it just not be there if the Mac can't be upgraded? She's running Snow Leopard. The trouble i, I can't find what kin of Mac it is, even under About This Mac. No year or anything like that. Re: To the person wanting feedback on Kindle app and braille
I dont know if it's unique to Kindle. In some iBooks, I can get lag when panning. I use a RefreshaBraille 18. I notice that in the Kindle app in particular there is a delay if I make the font size very very smal. I like the size to be small so more text can fit on a page, but I get very frustrated with the delay when trying to read with Braille that way. You can uncheck this, delete all your HD TV shows, and when you re-download them they'll be in SD. The reason the papers are so different is probably because NFB only gets the free content. We don't pay, so we don't get access to *everything*. The rotor let me choose to flick through characters and headings but not lines. If it was reading continuously it would flip pages automatically but I could only manually turn the page by going to the page chooser and then flicking up and down. Re: Mactubes
It definitely *is* possible to download videos from MacTubes. It takes fiddling, but it *is* doable. You have to put in the URL for the video and start it playing, Then you have to find the first unlabeled button to the right of the playing video then hit control-option-shift-m and arrow down till you hear download submenu then hit right-arrow and arrow down to the video format you want. I tend to use MP4. Then watch the slider to the right until it says 100% and the video will be ownloaded. Re: sort of OT: ripping DVDs with description track?
The best way to rip DVDs that have auio description is to tell it to rip all traks. You go into the audio tab and hit add all tracks. It will include the audio description track then. Re: Editing with audacity
Audacity hates me. If I try to use the brackets, one or the other will go away. If I try to do shift-j it doesn't appear to take. I don't get it I guess I will try again tomorrow. I am just trying to get The Lord of the Rings--the trilogoy that I was given for Christmas several years ago, ripped where each chapter is its own file, and the Foreward and Prologue are in their right places. Jane On Sep 2, 2012, at 10:52 PM, Alex Hall wrote: Don't quote me on this, but try moving to the part you want to keep and hitting p to pause, then shift-j to select to start. Press p again to play, then p yet again at the end of the audio to keep and shift-k to select to the end. Finally, cmd-k to erase the selection. If that fails, try shift-home and shift-end, and/or cmd-k after each selection instead of after both. If that doesn't work, try just hitting left bracket on the start of the audio to keep, right bracket at the end, and then export selection in the file menu. This will let you save that part of the audio as its own file and leave the original intact. On Sep 2, 2012, at 9:24 PM, Jane juanitatig...@gmail.com wrote: Hi Listers. Re: converting text to MP3
What doers the o stand for, and can you keep it from reading the text aloud? I am wondering if it will be any faster than my automator workflow. Jane On Aug 29, 2012, at 2:21 PM, Chris Blouch wrote: There is probably some clever way to do it from the GUI but I'm comfortable doing stuff in terminal so here is how I would do it. Get a text file with what you want said. In terminal do say -o audiofile.aiff textfile.txt That will use voiceover to generate an aiff audio file of the spoken version of whatever text is in textfile.txt. You can then load up that AIFF into iTunes to convert it to mp3 or use Sox if you have that installed. You can specify the audio file format to be something else but mp3 was not one of the choices. In playing around I found it to be quite fast - about a 20:1 ratio for performance. In other words it took 1 seconds to generate 20 seconds of spoken text audio.
