Re: itunes podcast question
Hello. Make sure the view is set to text list view in iTunes. It's a radio button you'll find when you use control-option-left or right-arrow to move around the screen. Just check it with control-space. Interact with the podcast table using control-option-shift-down-arrow. Arrow down to the podcast you want to downnload. When you find it, do control-option-shift-m and use your arrow keys till you hear download all podcast episodes. Hit the return key. The episodes will start downloading. If you only want to download certain episodes, just arrow to the episodes you want to download and hit control-option-shift-m on each one individually; you'll then hear download podcast episode. You then hit return and the episodes will download. Since your tell statement tells skype what to do on the same line, you don't need the end tell. I am not sure about the second part. Do you normally click on the file and it brings up terminal, or do you bring up terminal and then issue the command to start it from the command line? If it is the latter, then you would issue thee command like you did in the script to vacuum your mail. However, if you normally click on the file, then I think the script should look like: try tell application skype to activate tell application finder open file clisk_mac in home end tell end try If terminal is the default application to open the file, you don't have to tell it to use terminal. It should tell you that your device is synced with another library and ask you if you want to synce, or transfer purchases. Another way you can do it is to turn on home sharing on both computers (assuming you have a wireless network). On your mac, look in the sources list for a remote library. Then, if memory serves correctly, you can import that into your mac's library. Finally, if these seem too risky in terms of messing with your device, you can copy the library to a flash drive and add the contents of the library to your automatically add to iTunes folder. Back with Questions
Hey everyone. I took myself off the list because for the longest time I didn't have a Mac that was just mine; now I do. I have a used Mac Mini. Have had it for a couple of days now. I have a few questions. 1. What do you use to get the audio from unprotected movies? It's not like I need the video on my iPad. I thought Audacity would do it, but I'm not certain. 2. Can someone please remind me how to make it possible to type in Spanish in a TextEdit or other application like OpenOffice? I've lost the instructions. 3. The Mac Mini has, I think 2 gigs of ram, and I am interested in running Windows XP on it with VM Fusion. Will this be possible, and how do I go about it? I only want it for some games that I can't play easily on here, because there are no Mac equivalents. 4. Is it possible to sync the iPad with a Mac *and* a Windows computer? It originally was synced with the Windows computer, and I want to sync it with the Mac without losing content already on it. 5. How do I navigate quickly to the top of a document with VoiceOver? I've completely forgotten how. Thanks for the help. Jane -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups MacVisionaries group. Re: mac mini should I?
I love mine. It's a tiny box that just sits here on my desk. You have to purchase a monitor and a keyboard--you can use bluetooth or a USB one. I personally am using the USB for now, but I have a bluetooth option if I want/need to use it.:) I just love the way mine's working out, and it's used. More iPad questions
Today I went to the brand-new Apple Store in our city just to play with the iPad. I expect to bwe getting one in a couple of days, and of course I am s excited! I had some troubles, though. Once VoliceOver was turned on, it wasn't as easy as all that to do the double-taps for some reason to open apps. Flicking between the icon things on the screen wasn't as simple. I thought for some reason I could just move my finger around on the screen and VO would automatically tell me what was where, but for some reason that didn't seem to work as well. So here are some questions I came up with while playing with it. 1. Once I get VO turned on (probably will ask someone there to do it or get my husband to) how do I get to the practice gestures? I couldn't seem to find sEttings anywhere, except completely by accident, and when I was in there, I couldn't find the practice gestures to learn them. 2. Maps. How do I get Maps, and how useful will it be for me being totally blind and all? 3. iBooks. Biiig one, as I have the app on the computer just waiting to be synced, with some books all ready to go, so I want to figure how to get running with that right away. How do I find *that*? How do I make it read the book automatically? And is the iBookStore accewssible? easy to navigate and find stuff in? especially looking for free books for kids with pictures. 4. I thought I saw iPod and iTunes on there. Why are there both apps? What are the main differences? 5. Syncing. I want to be able to stync stuff, but only certain things, so will I have to go the way of playlists, or will I be able to tell it for some to do playlists, for others to do checked items only? How do I set that up? 6. Mail. I am using a Windows computer for the moment, and I use imap. Will that be just as easy to set up on the iPad so I can look at emails the same way? 7. Keyboarding text. I'm planning on getting the keyboard dock, but I don't plan to rely on that exclusively. Anywher eon the iPad where I can find a practice keyboard just to practice entering text, including capitalization, punctuation, and say, Spanish letters and numbers? I think that's all of my questions. Thanks for your patience. Jane -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups MacVisionaries group. Hi Esther. There are no buttons, but I sort of found a work-around. If I subscribe to a podcast via a link from the web site, I am able to see a 'download all podcast episodes' choice in the context menu. RE: NLS digital books and future versions of iTunes,iPod, iPhone?
The trouble seems to be that the books have to be in some sort of encrypted format, and let's face it, iTunes is sort of encrypted, but even that can be, well gotten around. With DAISY, ye you can put them into iPod format, but it takes a lot of work--I think--to do. Could be wrong though. Anyhow, that's probably why NLS and RFBD won't make their stuff iPod playable. Because of all the copyright stuff--if they don't keep books in a specialized format, then they can't legally distribute the stuff for free to qualified people. I have never heard of the daisy format being playable on anything but a specialized player. If it can actually be played on an IPod, then that is a good thing but it's news to me. I personally have not had good experiences with so we'll just have to have a friendly disagreement for the moment on whether or not it's any good or not. I've found it to be bloated and overly complex. I have encountered many that weren't marked up for navigation properly which makes them harder to navigate than cassette tapes in my opinion. Granted, all of my experiences are with the rfbd versions but I'm not totally sure that it makes that much difference. My point was not to step on someone's favorite file format, but to address the fact that there are main streme formats that would have worked quite well as a delivery system for NLS and RFBD that would have worked for both the pc and mac. That being said, If the Daisy can be made to work on non daisy devices, than it's fine as for as I'm concerned. - Original Message - From: Greg Kearney gkear...@gmail.com To: macvisionaries@googlegroups.com Sent: Wednesday, July 15, 2009 7:14 PM Subject: Re: NLS digital books and future versions of iTunes,iPod, iPhone? We make books without any DRM and include playlist so that they are playable on other non-Daisy devices. The digital talking books are going to be put on flash memory and people who have the victor reader stream have been able to download digital files of the books to play on their players for a while. Re: Installing Leopard on a Netbook
Alex - The netbooks right now are pretty much priced the same for similar specifications. If you're buying now, then all you'd need to do is find a netbook on sale on a site like woot.com or coupons or similar to save money. On the other hand, I know Intel just started shipping their new Atoms, which won't really give you a performance boost except in graphics performance, where they're talking about netbooks powerful enough to play HD content. I don't know if that's something that would be of interest to you, but that's possibly the only thing on the horizon (other than windows 7) that would interest prospective netbook buyers. That being said, if you're wanting to run Leopard on a netbook model that was just released or that is soon to be released on something new like the new Atoms, don't hold your breath. I just bought an HP mini 1000 yesterday, it's not terribly new since it's from November last year but not old either, and everyone trying to install osx86 on it can't get sound or ethernet working. cheers, jane On Mon, Apr 6, 2009 at 8:52 PM, Alex Jurgensen asquare...@gmail.com wrote: Hi, How much cheaper do the Netbooks get.
