How to disable stolen device protection when Touch ID does not work
Hello, I am running IOS 17.5 on my iPhone se 2020. I have stolen device protection set I have stolen device protection set on with delay always set on. Alas my fingerprint is not recognised by Touch ID and so I need to add another fingerprint. Whenever I try to do this the iPhone asks me to authenticate with Touch id which does not work. I have tried waiting for over 1 hour and trying again but that does not work. I cannot find any way to fix the problem by entering my passcode to authenticate. Can anyone explain how the delay works? What causes the delay clock to start, what should I do while the 1 hour delay clock is running, how do I know when the delay is up, and then what do I do to add the new fingerprint in a way which does not require Touch ID to authenticate. Many thanks for any ideas. Best … Paul Hopewell -- The following information is important for all members of the Mac Visionaries list. Problem reseting touch ID with stolen device protection on.
Hello, I have a backup iPhone SE 2020 just updated to IOS 17.5. Touch ID no longer works so I need to reset it by adding a new fingerprint. I have stolen device protection set on which means that I have to do Touch ID to let me add a fingerprint! This iPhone SE is my backup phone and has been in a desk drawer at home for ages and has not left home for weeks. I have just left it switched on for an hour or so in the hope that it would then let me add the new fingerprint, but no luck. Any ideas on how to solve this problem? Problem with numpad on Ventura
Hello, FYI I have reported this problem to Apple Accessibility. They have recreated the problem and raised a bug report to the appropriate development team. Hopefully it will be fixed in the next updates to Ventura and Sonoma. Many thanks to those who reported that the problem also happens on Sonoma. I reported this to Apple which probably made them pay more attention to the problem than if it only happened to me. whioch Best … Paul Hopewell > Begin forwarded message: > > From: Paul Hopewell > Subject: Problem with numpad on Ventura > Date: 28 April 2024 at 14:52:59 BST > To: macvisionaries > > Hello, > I am running the latest Ventura on my 1917 iMac. Strange differences between iPhone 15 pro and iPhone SE 2020 running identical software
Hello, I have an iPhone SE 2020 and an iPhone 15 Pro both running IOS 17.4 and both running the same Apps updated to their latest level. The iPhone SE 2020 works as expected while there are bugs in the iPhone 15 Pro. Both iPhones behaved the same while running the latest IOS 17.3 before upgrading to IOS 17.4. The following are annoying me on the iPhone 15 Pro: 1. The timers on Amazon Alexa do not work on the iPhone 15 Pro. If I say “Alexa 30 second timer” Alexa says “30 seconds starting now’ followed a few seconds later by Alexa saying “Sorry I am having Problems”. I used to rely on the Alexa timers for my daily workout. 2. The number of Apps which need updating are not fully reported on the iPhone 15 Pro. I have automatic App update set off. The App Store App is in the Utilities folder. When I swipe to the Utilities folder on the iPhone SE 2020 VO will tell me how many Apps updates are available which is what I want. This does not happen on the iPhone 15 Pro where the only way to find out how many App updates, if any, are available is to open the App Store App and then go to my Account. In case there are pending updates I have to do this every day which is annoying. Note that I turn off automatic App update to enhance battery life. Do others have similar problems? Can you think of any subtle differences in my Settings on the iPhones which might account for the above differences? Many thanks for any ideas! Problem backing up iPhone 15 Pro to iMac

Closing an App on iPhone 15 Pro
Hello, First apologies for 2 accidental posts when I tried to send a modified version of my Friday post on this topic. Second many thanks for your feedback to my Friday post. I rely on VoiceOver and have now learnt that if I do a 1 finger upwards swipe from the bottom of the screen and then hold for a short time VoiceOver very helpfully says “Lift for home”. If I then swipe up a bit further and wait for a short time VoiceOver says “Lift for App Switcher” from where I can swipe right locate Apps and do a 3 finger upwards swipe to close that App. That is especially useful to close Apps which run in the background like Navigation Apps. This is on an iPhone 15 Pro running IOS 7.1.1. Does it work like this on earlier versions of IOS? It would be helpful if the Apple Support on this topic was a bit clearer on exactly what you have to do and on the above VoiceOver feedback. If you have ever backed up an iPhone to iCloud then you also need to delete that backup for any iPhone you no longer own or no longer use. Note that a copy of your iCloud backup is also save on your Mac. On Ventura go to Settings and then Apple ID and then iCloud and then Manage and then Backups. you can then choose any backup you need to delete. My lesson from the above is that I should check with Google Search before Emailing this list! Best … Paul Hopewell Hello, Over the years I have owned several iPhones. Sharing a file on my iCloud drive
Hello, I am running the latest Ventura on my 2019 iMac. I use VoiceOver and want to share an 60 MB or so MP3 file which is in my iCloud drive with about 10 people. I need these people to play the MP3 file but not allow them to modify or delete it. In the past I used to do this via Drop Box. I loaded the file onto Drop Box and then used the context menu to get a Link to the file which I then included in the Email to the relevant people. I can still do this but would rather avoid Drop Box. Is there some way to get a Link to the file on my iCloud Drive and include it in an Email? Note that some of the Email recipients use iPad and others use Windows. I want the process to be simple for the Email recipients and do not want them to have to install iCloud or other software on their machines. If that were necessary I would revert to the Drop Box solution. Many thanks for any tips… Paul Hopewell -- The following information is important for all members of the Mac Visionaries list. iPhone no longer recognises any SIM
Hello, We have now fixed the below problem. We first wasted a lot of time deleting Apps and data from the recovered iPhone and then restoring it to factory settings. We also tried several SIMs which worked OK on other iPhones in the recovered iPhone. None of the above worked. After a lot of looking at settings we found in Settings/General/About an entry in the Networks area saying “phone not allowed”, which suggests that we need to contact giffgaff who is our Network provider. Note that when we thought the phone had been stolen we asked giffgaff to block the phone. We were advised that we had to send an Email to giffgaff specifying the IMEI code for our iPhone, which can be fund in Settings/General/About/Network, and ask giffgaff to unblock the phone. We were advised that this might take up to 5 working days. About a day later we received a text message from giffgaff saying that they had unblocked the phone. This changed the Network settings and the phone now worked OK. Best regards … Paul Hopewell Hello, A friend recently left his iPhone 8 running IOS 16.5 behind in a location. IOS 16.4.1 plugging headphones into lightning socket cuts out iPhone microphone
Hello, I am running IOS 16.4.1 on my iPhone SE 2020. I often use induction loop headphones which fit over my hearing aids with tele coil set on and which connect to my iPhone via an Apple lightning to 3.5 mm jack adapter. My headphones do not include a microphone. Until recently I was able to hold phone calls while using these headphones. Now I can hear the recipient of the pone call on my headphones but they cannot hear me. If I unplug the headphones then the phone call works normally. As a second test I tried to record a Voice Memo while wearing the headphones with the result that the recording was blank, presumably because the headphones caused the iPhone microphone to no longer work. As I recently upgraded from IOS 16.4 to 16.4.1 I wonder whether this upgrade introduced the above problem. Alternatively I may have accidentally changed some iPhone settings which caused this problem. Does anyone have any suggestions on the cause of the problem and what I can do to fix it. IOS: how to read TXT files in iCloud drive

Change AppleID in IOS 16.3.1
Hello Herbie, When you say “complete reset” what exactly do you mean? The iPhone 8 contains lots of Apps and data which will be useful to my relative. For example my navigation and Books Apps and my list of contacts and my calendar. I do not want to reset the iPhone 8 to factory settings as I would then have to reload all these Apps and recreate all the data. That looks like a lot of work. So instead I have deleted sensitive Apps, my Email accounts, and sensitive Safari bookmarks. I now just want to ensure that my relative cannot tinker with my iCloud Drive files or purchase Apps on my credit card. That is why I want him to use his AppleID rather than my AppleID. Hello, I have an Apple watch SE and an iPhone SE 2020 both running the latest software. My sleep schedule is set to 22:56 until 6:56. Sleep tracking usually produces plausible sleep durations and usually terminates sleep tracking around 6:56. However it sometimes ends sleep tracking prematurely for some unknown reason and thus does not credit me with the correct amount of sleep. For example this morning i got out of bed around 4:30 to open my bedroom window and the sleep tracking ended at 4:36 missing out significant sleep after that time. I wonder if my reaching up with my watch hand to open the window caused this premature termination. Alternatively I usually use haptic time checking at night which requires pressing the watch crown sometimes several times before haptic time works. Do others have this problem and if so have you found the reason for the premature termination? Hello, I am running IOS 16.3 on my iPhone SE 2020. I have 3 Email accounts and have set up mail boxes for all inboxes, all sent, all drafts, all trash, and all archive. Why does my Apple Watch tell me the wrong date
Hello, Many thanks for your help on this. I followed your advice and changed my watch face from Meridian to Modular which so far has fixed the problem. Until now I have never really looked at the watch face options. I have used Meridian since I bought the watch about 2 years ago. I think that this watch face became corrupted over time. Not only did it show the wrong date but it was not possible for me to access the list of Apps on my watch. Instead I used Hey Siri to start the desired App. As a test I have just re-instated the Meridian watch face and that now works OK. So it seems that I need to refresh my watch face when problems happen. Why does my Apple Watch tell me the wrong date
Hello, I have an Apple Watch SE 2021 running Watch OS 9.2 linked to an iPhone SE 2020 running IOS 16.2. Whenever I check the time on my watch it gives me the correct time but tells me that the date is yesterday’s date. I have just used the watch to check the time today Saturday 31 December at 5:12 pm and the watch tells me the correct time but with the date Friday 30 December. When I check the time around 8:00am tomorrow Sunday 1 January the watch will tell me that the date is Saturday 31 December. When I check the date and time on my iPhone both time and date are correct. If I power off the watch and restart it the watch then tells me the correct date but then gets it wrong the next day. This behaviour started happening after the recent upgrades to Watch OS 9.2 and IOS 16.2. Is this a bug in Watch OS 9.2 or have I somehow changed a critical Watch setting? Many thanks for any ideas. Apple watch clench gesture for haptic time
Hello, Has anyone got the clench gesture to get your Apple watch to tap your wrist to tell you the time? If you go to Settings, Accessibility, VoiceOver, Hand gestures you will find an option to tell haptic time if you clench your hand to make a fist. It seems that you also have to do a double clench at the right time to enable the above hand gesture. This could be very useful if you are wearing gloves or carrying something in your non watch hand which inhibits you from doing a 2 finger tap and hold on the watch face to tell haptic time. I am unclear how this use of hand gestures relates to the hand gestures for assistive touch, where clench means something different and cannot be set to haptic time. IF anyone has got this to reliably work then can you please let me know the details. Many thanks … Paul Hopewell -- The following information is important for all members of the Mac Visionaries list. How to organise my display on Ventura 13.0.1
Hello, When I used Windows with the WindowEyes screen reader many years ago I set up Windows so that the window I was working on filled the entire screen with the menu bar at the top. I then used Alt+Tab to switch between windows and applications with the new window again filling the whole screen. If I needed to consult a sighted person the window of interest was always visible with no part of it obscured by some other window. I found this a great way to work. I vaguely recall that there was a Windows option to maximise all windows which helped achieve the above. I would like to set up my iMac to work like this. It seems that Stage Manager with only thumbnails for other windows for for the current application displayed in the left hand side would do the job, but I am confused by the relationship between Stage Manager, Full Screen, and Mission Control spaces. Prior to Ventura I sometimes needed to seek help from my sighted wife who complained about too many windows open on my display some of which obscured the window of interest. Not being able to see the screen I could not help her to reposition the obscuring windows and we usually had to close applications other than the application of interest. My wife also says that she cannot use my external track pad to move the windows cursor beyond the bottom of the currently displayed window, while I have no problem doing this using my keyboard and VoiceOver. I would appreciate any advice on how to best arrange windows in Ventura which is helpful to both sighted users and VO users. How to setup a Logictech wireless keyboard on Ventura tec keyboard
Hello, I have recently upgraded my 2018 iMac to Ventura. I normally use the Apple Magic Keyboard which works fine. Problem with keyboard shortcut on latest Monterey
Hello, I recently upgraded my 2018 iMac to Monterey 12.4. Since then I have suffered from VO constantly saying “accessibility shortcut has keyboard focus” followed by Universal Access Control and a list of possible accessibility options. As you can imagine this is very disruptive! After trying various keyboards I found that the problem only happened if I used a keyboard with the numeric keypad and then only if I pressed the 4 key on the numeric keypad which I do often when using the numeric keypad commander. I normally use the numeric keypad commander all the time. I then looked at my keyboard shortcuts and found that the shortcut for “show accessibility controls” is 4 and that this is unticked by default. Pressing the 4 key on the normal keyboard does not cause this problem but pressing 4 on the numeric keypad does cause the problem. As a temporary fix I changed the keyboard shortcut for “show accessibility controls" to F16 and the problem goes away provided that I do not press F16. This looks like 2 bugs in Monterey 12.4 which could seriously impact VO users who use the numeric keypad commander. The first bug is that the 4 key should have no effect if that option is unticked as a keyboard shortcut and the second bug is that pressing the 4 key on the numeric keypad while using the numeric keyboard commander should not be considered as a keyboard shortcut. Have any other listers encountered this problem? Best regards … Paul Hopewell -- The following information is important for all members of the Mac Visionaries list. Reliable haptic time on Apple Watch SE relible
Hello, I have an Apple Watch SE purchased in late 2021 running the latest Watch OS. I normally have VO set off and like to always use haptic time to avoid disturbing others and avoid drawing attention to myself. I have return to clock for all Apps set to the default which is 2 minutes or a press of the watch crown. I press the Watch Crown and then touch 2 fingers on the watch face. This sometimes works and sometimes does not work. When it does not work I wait about a minute or so and try again and it then usually works. I need to use haptic time both when awake and upright and also when in bed and horizontal. Telling the time instantly and reliably is an essential function of a watch. Can anyone recommend a set of options to achieve this for haptic time with VO set off? Why does Siri not speak when i plug in headphones?
Hello, I am running the latest IOS on my iPhone SE 2020. I have disabled Hey Siri and instead start Siri by pressing and holding the Home button. However when the headphones are plugged in and I ask Siri a question I get s slight delay and then hear the current time or the screen I was on before asking Siri. is there some Setting I need to change to enable me to hear Siri responses via the phone speaker when headphones are unplugged and to hear them through the headphones when they are plugged in? Super Agent for Safari on Mac
Hello, I have now gotten this to work on Monterey, but it needed sighted help. I had to reboot Monterey in safe mode but VoiceOver does not work in Safe mode. My sighted help had to go to Safari preferences and tick the super agent extension. Once that is done you can reboot in standard mode and use VoiceOver as normal. ——— Hello, Have any listers got the Super Agent for Safari App working on Mac Monterey 12.2.1? You can install it from the Mac App Store where it is free. You can set it up to automatically fill in the desired cookie permissions which most web sites in Europe require and where it is generally so difficult to set up manually that you choose the easy option of “agree to all cookies” which is usually not what you want. I have set this up on IOS and that worked fine. I have installed it on my 2018 iMac and am having difficulty getting it setup. Accessing time machine controls using VO
Hello, I am running Monterey 12.2.1 on my 2018 iMac. I am trying to understand how to restore an individual file from time machine. As a test I have created several different versions of a test file and after each version have used the menu extra time machine menu (VO+M+M) to force a time machine backup. I then find the test file on my Mac hard disk and use the menu extra menu bar to enter time machine. I then use the window chooser (VO+F2+F2) to locate time machine controls. this shows a "backup time line vertical slider" which if I were sighted would let me choose the desired backup time for my test file. How can I access this slider using VO? There are also buttons labeled previous and next. I had hoped that I could go through today’s backups by pressing the previous button. but that instead takes me to yesterday’s backup at the time when I originally created the test file. Any ideas on how to choose the desired backup time using VO? Best … Paul Hopewell (hopew...@hopewell.org.uk) -- The following information is important for all members of the Mac Visionaries list. How to restore a file from time machine
Hello Tim, Many thanks for your info on this. However I still have problems… First I had to simplify my time machine setup. I have 2 time machine disks which save alternate backups. One of these time machine disks contains 2 partitions one for my Mac and the other for my wife’s Mac. To get anything to work I had to eject disks until I had just a single time machine disk for my Mac. I was then able to see time machine controls which showed the latest backup and had the previous button you mentioned and the vertical slider. Alas pressing the previous button took me to my first ever backup which was in April 2020! If I then press the next button I did indeed get to the next backup which was still in April 2020 and I needed a lot of presses of the next button to get to 11 February 2022 and in the process missed the backup which contained the file I wanted to restore. Is there a way to access the vertical slider using VO? When / If I eventually locate the backup for late Friday 11 February 2022 then how do I find the 1 file in that backup which I want to restore and thereby replace the current version of that file on my Mac hard disk. I am still unclear as to how my prior technique might corrupt the backup disk. All I was doing was to copy the desired file from the backup disk to replace its current version on my Mac hard disk. I did not change anything on the backup disk. Many thanks in anticipation of clarification. Is the action of the previous button taking me back to my first ever time machine backup a bug which should be reported to Apple? How to restore a file from time machine using VoiceOver
Hello, I am running Mac/OS Monterey 12.2.1. In the past I used to restore files from time machine by using Finder on the time machine disk to locate the desired file in a backup with the desired date and time and using command+c to copy that file to the clipboard. I then went back to Finder on my Mac Hard Disk and pasted the above file into the correct folder usually choosing the option to replace the existing version of that file. This usually works OK. However I understand that this is not the correct way to restore files from time machine, though I do not understand why not. I have looked up how to restore files from time machine via Google but the suggested methods are not VO friendly. So how can I correctly restore files from time machine using VoiceOver? Monterey and Logitech K780 keyboard
Hello, I am running Monterey 12.0.1 on my 2018 Intel iMac using a Logitech K780 bluetooth keyboard with VO set up to speak during iMac boot to enter my login password. After a reboot the key to the left of the space bar acts like the command key and the key to the left of that acts like the Option key which is what I want. However if I then leave the iMac and keyboard switched on for a while and allow the iMac login to time out and then login again the prior option key acts like Command and the prior command key acts like Option. I have looked at Keyboard and Modifier keys in System Preferences and see that the keyboard is set to “bluetooth USB host controller” both after re-boot and after login after timeout. For this keyboard the modifier keys are Option set to Option and Command set to Command. If I change the keyboard to “K780” the Option key is set to command and the command key is set to Option but this change makes no difference to how the keys behave. So my questions are: - Why does Monterey not recognise the keyboard as “K780”? - If I change the modifier keys in System Preferences then when do these changes take effect? Do I have to reboot for them to take effect? - Why does the keyboard behave differently after iMac timeout and re-login? - How do I fix these problems which did not happen before upgrade to Monterey?0 Mean while I will revert to my Apple Magic Keyboard via bluetooth which works as expected with no difference between login after reboot and after iMac timeout. How to download a youtube video
Hello, Many thanks for the recommendation to use the PontesMediaDownloaderapp Application. Alas this does not run on Monterey as Monterey refuses to open the App as it cannot identify the developer. I have my security options set to download from App Store and Identified developers. I recall that in the past you could run Apps from anywhere at your own risk, but it looks that this is no longer possible on Monteerey. Can anyone recommend an alternative VO friendly free App which will run on Monterey or is there any way to run PontesMediaDownloaderapp Application on Monterey.?Many thanks for your help. how to download a youtube video
Hello, I belong to a philosophy discussion group which meets in our local library. From time to time we would like to show a philosophy related youtube video in this location where we have no Internet access. Can anyone recommend a VO friendly way to download a youtube video to an iPhone or iPad which we can then play via an appropriate lightning adapter and an HDMI cable on a TV in the location? We will only need to do this about once every month or so and hence need a low cost or no cost solution. I also have an iMac and if I could download the youtube video to that I could then move it to the iPhone or iPad. All are running the latest software. Many thanks for any tips. Problem ending a workout on Apple Watch
Hello, Many thanks for the feedback on this. The option which works best for me is Mary Otten’s idea of using Siri to end the workout. I start VO on the watch, say Hey Siri, and when Siri responds say End Workout. So far this has worked every time and Siri even congratulates me on finishing the workout! Another approach is to turn on End Workout Reminder in the workout settings. If you have a short period of inactivity after the workout the Apple Watch will recognise this and ask if you want to end the workout. Problem ending a workout on Apple Watch
Hello, I am running Watch OS 8.0.1 on my Apple Watch SE. I have problems ending a workout such as Outdoor Walk or Core Exercise. Before upgrading to Watch OS 8 when I had finished the workout I used to go to the appropriate workout and flick down to get to page 1 and then double tap the end button. That resulted in a summary of the workout showing duration, average heart rate, calories and so on. I then pressed the done button to get back to the watch face. Since upgrading to Watch OS 8 I can no longer reliably get to the page where I can end the workout. Instead flicking down gets to a page about playing the next music track which does not work because the watch is not set up to play music. Note that I do not want to play any music anywhere during the workout. I do not know why the workout now wants to play music. Any thoughts on why this is happening and what I can do to fix it? Audible App keeps stopping in IOS 15
Hello, I am running IOS 15.0 on my iPhone SE 2020. I use headphones to listen to Audible books. For some reason the Audible App keeps stopping while reading an Audible book. Pressing the home button restarts the reading. If I delay pressing the home button I find that I have missed some text. Sometimes the reading will stop after a few seconds and sometimes it will stop after several minutes. sometimes I can restart the reading and it continues without stopping. I note that I do most of my reading around bedtime, and so wonder if the sleep settings are relevant. I have looked at these and think that sleep is set off. This problem does not happen with other sources of audio such as Dolphin Easy Reader or Borrow Box. do others experience this problem and if so have have you fixed it? Problem with Watch OS 8.0
Hello, I am running Watch OS 8.0 on my Watch SE. I used to use the Workout App on the latest Watch OS 7 with no problems. Since moving to Watch 8.0 the Workout App insists on playing music during the workout but cannot do so because it needs the NowPlaying App which was on my Watch under Watch OS7 but is no longer on the watch. When I try to download it from the App store the re-download button is dimmed, presumably because this App will not run on Watch OS 8.0. Actually I do not want any music during my workout, but cannot see how to stop the workout insisting on music. A consequence of this problem is that I cannot get to the menu to end the workout. Editing secure note using 1 password on Mac

Problems with latest lightning to headphone adapter
Hello, I am running IOS 14.7.1 on my iPhone SE 2020. I listen to audio books and radio programs through headphones which connect to my iPhone via a lightning to 3.5 mm jack adapter.I use this in bed in the early morning before my wife has woken up. It is thus essential that the whole process is silent with no sounds from the iPhone speakers. For some time I have used the OPSO lightning to 3.5 mm jack adapter from Amazon, as I found that this model lasts much longer than other cheaper models. It used direct wiring to make the connection which worked very well. Recently OPSO have changed the design of this adapter to use bluetooth for some reason I cannot understand. This has resulted in the following problems with the result that I cannot start the listening process with no sound from my iPhone speakers. I have to get out of bed and set up in a different room! The first problem is that I turn bluetooth off on the iPhone before going to sleep. This is because I use haptic time on my Apple watch which sometimes results in accidentally pinging the iPhone with the ping sound coming from the iPhone speakers. This disables the headphones and I thus have to use the iPhone speakers to turn bluetooth back on. The second problem is that even if I leave bluetooth on I still cannot start the listening process with no sound from the iPhone speakers. When I press the home button on the iPhone to wake it up a few seconds of sound come from the iPhone speakers before bluetooth gets going and transfers the sound to the headphones. So I now need a different model of lightning to 3.5 mm jack adapter which does not involve bluetooth and which ideally keeps working reliably for a long time across multiple unplugging of the lightning end of the adapter to enable me to recharge the iPhone, or to upload the iPhone contents to my iMac. So can anyone recommend a good long lasting non-bluetooth lightning to 3.5 mm jack adapter? Problem with Siri Schedule Command
Hello, I am running IOS 14.4.2 on my iPhone SE 2020. I find the Siri Schedule command very useful for creating calendar entries. However one very annoying feature is that if I say something like Schedule Lunch with Pete 23 April 11 am “ Siri checks my contacts list to show me all the Petes and asks me to choose the correct Pete and it then sends an invitation to that Pete. This is bad news as Pete does not have an iPhone and will be very confused by any Email Siri sends to him. Is there any way to stop this behaviour? Many thanks … Paul Hopewell -- The following information is important for all members of the Mac Visionaries list. Bootable backup disk?
Hello, As per the below SuperDuper does not work on Bigsur out of the box. It currently needs a work around. Please see http://www.shirt-pocket.com/blog <http://www.shirt-pocket.com/blog> for Big Sur info, instructions and a download. We're working on a new release that won't require a workaround and will boot Big Sur on Intel. It is not yet practical on an M1 Mac, though… Best … Paul Hopewell -- The following information is important for all members of the Mac Visionaries list. Bootable Bigsur Backup?
Hello Mark, SuperDuper is still not working for me. I am on SuperDuper version 121 which it says is the latest version and on Bigsur 11.2.3. I am trying to backup all files from my internal SSD hard disk to a USB external SSD hard disk. SuperDuper does not even prepare my disks prior to doing the copy. It all worked fine with Catalina with the same disk configuration. I will contact the developer. Bootable Bigsur Backup?
Hello, Have any listers successfully created a Bigsure bootable backup on an external disk for a 2018 iMac? I used SuperDuper for this for many years on prior Mac/OS releases which have rescued my system on several occasions but this no longer works on Bigsur. I have looked at the Carbon Copy Cloner web site but this also does not seem to easily fix this problem. It seems that I have to first install Bigsur on my backup disk so that I can boot from it, but I am then unclear on whether I can then use SuperDuper or Carbon Copy Cloner to add my latest user data to this external disk say every month or so. The problem seems to be that Apple do not offer an interface for these products to copy the now protected files to allow booting to an external disk. Many thanks for any tips … Paul Hopewell -- The following information is important for all members of the Mac Visionaries list.
