Re: copying text on an iPhone
To add to this, if you select characters, words, or lines as options, you have to then swipe right and you'll hear the text as it's being selected. You can then roter to the "Edit" option and select "Copy" to copy it to the clipboard then navigate to another app ,and paste it their. Here is part of your email I copied using this method. I want to copy the text in an email on my phone and paste it somewhere else. Re: copying text on an iPhone
Hi Lorie, Yes you can do this. 1. Use the iOS roter and navigate to "Text Selection" 2. Swipe down and you will hear a number of options related to selecting text. I just chose Select all and the text of the email minus the signature was selected. 3. Now roter to "Edit" and choose "Copy". Let me know if this helps. I can never get iCloud to work from the Windows side. I eventually gave up on it from a Windows perspective. Not only does such a case cover the displaywhen not in use, it also provides a nifty way to balance the phone in onehand, fingers-free.When entering text, I open the case, kind of like a book, with the walletside to the left and the phone to the right. Re: Recent Siri Changes Remove Call, Email, and Voicemail Features Used by Low Vision and Blind Users
All of these assistants will always have to go to the cloud to get something. The main problem I see is that some of the older demographic, who prefer a device that has buttons for doing things, have a great deal of trouble adjusting to a touch screen environment. These people would be satisfied with something resembling either a candy bar or flip phone. If they could use a telephone keypad and get voice feedback they would be happy. I don't think any of the major carriors in canada cary such a phone. Hi Joseph, I'm running 15 here and don't see a Select all option when the edit mode is enabled. I've never done this before on iOs 14 so am not sure what to expect here. Re: KNFB Reader iPhone App
Hello everyone, I'm just wondering if anyone has tried using the KNFB reader with a battery something like the mophy juice pack attached? Is there a difference in using it? I still think the price was too high, but as Kevin wrote on Friday, it just works. I know some people put a lot of time into learning to use Prizmo, and I understand that they got good results. I barely have enough time to breathe each day. I get up in the morning and am busy till I go to bed at night. I don't have that kind of time to spend practicing to use an app. So yes, I do think the price is high, but I also know that it meets my needs without requiring a ton of practice time. So I bought it, and I recommend it to others. As to your question what if someone else built those same features into a mainstream app, I think that'd be fabulous. But right now that hasn't happened, so I'm going with the KNFB reader. Cheers, Donna On Sep 21, 2014, at 3:58 AM, Krister Ekstrom kris...@kristersplace.com wrote: Well, Prizmo has some kind of guidance similar to the KNFB reader but it seems to be unreliable at times and i don't think it has the tilt sensor. What if it was only the tilt sensor and the field view report and the rest was an ordinary OCR app? We make it sound like this app is the worlds 8th miracle, what if it ain't? What if some mainstream developer added at leas the guidance that Prizmo already has and a tilt sensor and it became just as good? Sorry for sounding skeptical, i'm just wondering about things. /Krister 20 sep 2014 kl. 18:41 skrev Sabahattin Gucukoglu listse...@me.com: Well, I can certainly agree that assistive isn't always equal to overpriced, and indeed I have owned the flatbed and now own the camera edition Sara, both of which have worked quite well, and with mainstream OCR software and flatbed scanners, really quite excellently. Anything to lower the cost of investment is always useful though. I am hoping to standardise on something that is accurate and realistically caters to my needs, and this app looks very promising going forward. However I do worry that the cost would not be justified if I found another app. I have had all the mentioned apps so far--TextDetective, TextGrabber, and Prizmo--and have not even been able to choose among these three yet, though Prizmo is now the one on my phone. Can anyone suggest ways in which any of these three apps might somehow be improved to match the speed and accuracy of KNFB as it now stands? A difficult question, I know, but I'm hoping someone knows something I don't. This is mostly an exercise in discovery, of course, since I now own all four of them. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups MacVisionaries group. I figured it out. Here is how to do it. Go into settings, choose general, accessibility, VoiceOver. Swipe down to the roter settings and double tap. There is a sounds option you can enable that will show up in the router which will allow you to turn the sounds on and off. Re: using voiceover in terminal?
Have you agreed to the Xcode license? To do this do the following: From a terminal prompt type xcodebuild -license and press enter. The unix 'more' command will display the Xcode license. Usin the space bar will scrole through this screen by screen. Press the q key to quit this and type agree at the next prompt that appears. You now have agreed to the license. See if you get a difference in your make output after you try this. I found this out after I was trying to get rails running here and things were not configuring as I expected. I read an an article yesterday teling how to go into the user library and get rid of a particular plist file, which I did, but that only helped somewhat. The file was com.apple.hitoolbox. After I got rid of that and rebooted, some keys were recognized, but not as what they were supposed to do. For example, command tab would move right, like the right arrow. Just as an aside, I did plug the keyboard into my new mac air that I just got for Christmas and got the keyboard assistant. AFter it claimed that the keyboard was recognized and said I could use the keyboard, again, the keyboard wasn't working as expected. vo right arrow was acting like enter, for example. Re: statusbar in 10.9.2 mavericks
Hello all: I'm getting the same problem here as well. I've got two third party items in my status bar. The first is the dropbox icon and the second is the icon for 1Password Mini. If I Vo+Space on Dropbox I get the window opening sound and hear the word app which is then cut off. The window closes too fast for the screen reader to render the message. If I press Vo+Space on the 1Password Mini icon I get the 1Password dialog where I can enter my master password. So it seems like the problem is with the DropBox application and not with the OS. Re: Accessible Packet Sniffers?
Hi Alex, I don't know of a Mac specific utility, but I used to use a console utility called mmap quite a few years ago when I was doing a lot of experimenting with Linux. I don't have the links handy but do a search for a package called home-brew. It is a packaging system for Mac OS that will allow you to install a huge list of unix utilities that Apple does not provide. Nmap may be among the list of packages available through Homebrew. So far I played with the Notifcation Center, Message, and Dictation. I will cover some of the basics with these and installing Mountain Lion. First off, I am not an uber mac user, just a standard user with little to no experience with understanding anything outside fundamentals of Coive Over. Installing Mountain is easy. As stated in a previous email, no worries. Just make sure you back-up your system. The only thing I did to prepare for the install was update my billing information. I did not update any software, run the checker, or anything else as my system is a Mac Mini from last year. The entire install took an hour from hitting the comfirm to buy button to logging in. Notification Center Set up: First thing to do is head to System Preferences, Keyboard, and then to the shortcuts tab. You will need to create a shortcut for the Notification Center, which is located in the Mission Control option. I am using Command Option Shift N for mine. Once done with the shortcut, head back to system preferences and go to the Notification Center. You have a table with the various apps that use the Notification center. Select each one you wish to receive either an alert, banner, or none alert. These pop up just like they do on the iPhone and iPad. Now use your shortcut to enable and play with the Notification Center. To move away from the center, either Command Tab or find the close button. Messaging I am really liking this feature. It using iMessage, so you can only sent a message to an email or another iMessage user. For this one, you need to dig it out from your Application folder, so hit Command Shift A or go through finder to find it. Once you find it, open it and insert your iCloud information. You will also want to go into the dock, and find the Message App. Hit VO Shift M and go down to Option and then keep in Dock. I say this, cause you will want this in your dock, unless you create a keyboard shortcut for it. The layout is as simple as Messaging is on the iPhone. Best part is, iMessages created on the Mac will appear on your iPHone and iPad with the same iCloud user ID. This allows you to carry on conversations from your Mac and then pick it up while traveling. Dictation Yeah, this works awesome, even with my mumbling Chicago-ish accent. Go back to System Preferences once last time and navigate to Dictation and Speech. Enable it and select your microphone. You will also need to select an activation method. The standard drop menu gives you Double Tapping of either the Function key, Command, RIght Command, or some other combination. When you are in a text field, double tap the key you selected and start talking. When you are done, double tap it again. To be quite honest that's what I figured. They talk about using images to convey certain aspects of the language learning. Question about Radium

I tried turning Trackpad Commander on and doing a 3 finger swipe up to scroll page by page through the list but no luck so far. Re: Skype and other voip services on i-devices
Hi William, I think what is happening is that Skype and other VOIP programs are speaking through the ear piece instead of the iPhone's speaker. Try this: 1. Hold down on the home button until the phone vibrates. 2. After the phone vibrates click the home button once. That may restore speech through the speaker. Try this and let me know how it goes. I've tried it here and it's working for me. Re: Google Chrome, ChromeVox, and Apps
I can't get the chromevox extension installed here at all. I get a message saying that the package is unreadable. Has anyone else seen this? Doug Sent from my iPhone On 2011-09-29, at 7:23 AM, Krister Ekstrom kris...@kristersplace.com wrote: Hi all, I managed to get my chromevox installed and i tested it, and as is so common amongst us i will now give my thoughts, mostly complaints about it. I think Chromevox has potential. The navigation, as long as it's basic is quite nice. I put it through its paces on a swedish site to buy tickets for one of our railway companies, because it's quite a challenge with any screen reader. Among the pros are that you can as they put it zoom in on things by navigating by group, object, sentence, word etc. That is very cool. The first little oddity i found had to do with combo box navigation: I found that when i tried to navigate a combo box, nothing was spoken. Luckily i knew what was in the combo box, so when i typed something, like a number everything worked well. Now i come to the cons of this screen reader, and to not make the same mistakes as those who did the voiceover review some years back, i want to point out that these are my initial impressions, that i could be very wrong in my assumtions and that i really do want to be corrected if i am wrong indeed. The most problematic area in Chromevox as of now is the table navigation which in my, i repeat my opinion is clumcy especially if you like me have a keyboard with ctrl only on the left hand side and no insert whatsoever. To navigate through a table you have to press ctrl+alt+t and then another letter. The navigation options are quite logical, but as you have to use both hands when trying to find letters to press and as the ctrl key is only to the left and there's no way of putting Chromevox into what they referr to as sticky mode, it gets awquard and time consuming. Another thing i hoped for but that doesn't seem to be there, is the possibility to change voices. It seems only to use the default system voice. Let's hope all this is addressed in an upcoming version, and as i said, if i have misunderstood anything of this, please let me know. I don't want to totally diss Chromevox yet, because i think it's got potential as i said, but for now i have inactivated the addon. /Krister 29 sep 2011 kl. 05:04 skrev Chris Blouch: Skype, IM, and other alerts/notifications will still work within Chrome/ChromeVox, provided their enabled with whatever method. Re: OS X Lion and VoiceOver issues
I've tried to do three things here to perform a drag and drop in Launchpad. 1. Do what you do in IOS which is to hold a finger on an icon until the moving sound is heard then start dragging the app to the new location. This does not work. No moving sound is heard when you try the IOS method. 2. Use the Command-comma and Comma-period method. VoiceOver thinks I am dragging the contents of the window under LaunchPad. In this case it was message content in Mail. I located the app I wanted to move and then pressed command-comma to mark it. Vo gives me Message content marked for drag and drop. I then use the VO-arrow keys to move the VO cursor to the new location and pressed command-period to drop the app. The problem was that VoiceOver was trying to deal with the content in the application under the LaunchPad window. 3. I moved to the app I wanted to drag using the VO navigation commands and locked the mouse down with the VO-command-shift-space command and moved it to the new location using the keyboard method. Begin forwarded message: From: Zachary Kline kli...@onid.orst.edu Subject: OS X Lion and VoiceOver issues Date: July 21, 2011 1:58:13 PM PDT To: Apple Accessibility accessibil...@apple.com Dear Apple Accessibility, I have recently upgraded my mid 2010 macbook pro to Lion, and have for the most part been quite pleased with its performance. However, there are a few troubling developments which degrade the overall quality of the experience. THe Launchpad and Mission Control features seem mostly accessible, but there are some omissions which render them less useful than they could be. There seems no way to move applications into folders, or indeed at all, using VoiceOver. Drag and drop does not do the expected thing. Mission Control is somewhat better, but Spaces seem impractical because there is neither any way to delete them nor to move between apps in a single space. Safari and Mail also present accessibility problems. Safari's new downloads popup is not ideal accessibility-wise, and while it works after a fashion the old downloads window was preferable. Similarly, Mail seems sluggish, often reporting that it is busy, especially in the new layout. Drag and drop is inconsistent here as well: the Favorites bar can be added to with the new shortcuts, but Voiceover refuses to drag items which have a press action, thus requiring the old mouse toggling shortcut to remove them. These are a representative sampling of the various issues I've encountered in using Lion with VoiceOver. I hope that at least some of these may be fixed in the near future, as this would greatly improve the usability of the system. Yours sincerely, Zack Kline. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups MacVisionaries group. To post to this group, send email to macvisionaries@googlegroups.com. Re: Safari Keyboard Reference Posted
Hi Esther, I have updated the keyboard reference with your suggestions. They are most helpful. Please take a look and let me know if I can do anything else with it. Thank you very much, Doug On 2011-07-12, at 4:43 PM, Esther wrote: Hi Doug, One suggested addition for your Safari Keyboard Reference, unless you want to limit yourself to only cover commands listed under the Safari menu bar: Add the fact that pressing Command-1, Command-2 etc. will activate the first 9 bookmarks in the Bookmarks Menu Bar, whether the Bookmarks Menu Bar is shown or hidden. You might want to amend the descriptions for viewing and bookmark options to show/hide or hide/show for the commands that are toggle actions, e.g.: Viewing: To hide/show the tool bar press “Command-|” To hide/show the Bookmarks Bar press “Command-Shift-b”. To hide/show the Tab Bar press “Command-shift-t”. To hide/show the Status Bar press “Command-/”. Bookmarks: To Show/Hide All Bookmarks press “Command-Option-b”. You've written this up for the default Safari browser settings, which is fine, but many VoiceOver users choose to hide their bookmarks menu, etc. (so those items don't show up in item chooser menu), so it's convenient to know which shortcuts are toggles. Also, FYI when on the Show All Bookmarks page of Safari (Command-Option-b), the Command-f acts as filter to only show matches to bookmarks that contain the search string. If you're curious, you can point your browser to: file:///Applications/Safari.app/Contents/Resources/Shortcuts.html (You may have to copy this, then navigate to your address bar with Command-l, paste with command-v, and then press return to activate the link.) This is a pointer to the Shortcuts resource page within your Safari Application Contents on your machine. Some of these are alternative shortcuts, like delete and shift-delete to go backwards and forwards. Also, one of the very commonly used Safari shortcuts for VoiceOver users is Option-return (or Option-enter if you're used to Windows naming return as the enter key). This is one of the shortcuts listed under Other browser window shortcuts as Option-click a link to download a file. VoiceOver automatically selects/highlights links that it moves to, which is what the click action by sighted users does, so you only have to press return after pressing option to complete the action. You'll find this is true for the other shortcuts that specify clicking on the link, too, so Command-return on a link will open the link in a new window or tab. This shortcuts list was technically for Safari 4, so I'd check out any shortcuts before including, if you're interested in this. HTH. Re: Wouldn't a braille keyboard be nice?
Doesn't the same company who makes the Braille pen make a keyboard only device? I thought they did Doug Sent from my iPhone On 2011-07-07, at 9:05 AM, Missy Hoppe melis...@fuse.net wrote: It can be; depends on your braille skills. I've been typing on a traditional keyboard since I was 8, so that's why I know my hands wouldn't work on the actual mac keyboard the wahy that's been described. They've had 30 years of knowing that the square keys get pressed one at a time. LOL! But on a dedicated braille keyboard, especially if it enabled you to type in grade two braille, then yes, in theory, you could type lots faster. It's a neat idea, but it definitely needs to be a separate device. -Original Message- From: macvisionaries@googlegroups.com [mailto:macvisionaries@googlegroups.com] On Behalf Of Ricardo Walker Sent: Thursday, July 07, 2011 7:25 AM To: macvisionaries@googlegroups.com Subject: Re: Wouldn't a braille keyboard be nice? Is typing on a braille keyboard generally faster than a regular keyboard? Two in my opinion is bad enough. I don't see why on the white models they didn't give us a few more. I can't speak for the eluminum pro models. I only've seen them maybe once or twice at an Apple store, so I don't totally remember how they looked.
