Re: Moving Around in Numbers -- Keystrokes on a Mac

2019-08-20 Thread 'Andrew Lamanche' via MacVisionaries
Unfortunatley, I’ve never found a way of moving to the last populated cell in a
column or row. The work around it for me is to type in a sequence of memorable
characters in the row below the last populated one and then if I want to move
to the end of the column, I use find function to find the sequence of the
characters. This is very much a work around. Apple seems to be less and less
responsive to our requests. They still haven’t fixed the Greek voice bug
although I’ve been reporting it for more than 3 years.

Re: Moving Around in Numbers -- Keystrokes on a Mac

2019-08-20 Thread Phil Halton

Dave, I’ve been making extensive use of Numbers for several years now and that
was one of my very first questions. Is it possible to move to the last
populated field in a table rather than going all the way to the end of the
table or conversely in rose. Unfortunately, that ain’t happening. You have to
hunt for the last field row by row. Definitely a deficiency in numbers. By the
way, if anybody proves me wrong here please, please, let us know.

Try using fn plus left arrow key for getting to the start of the row,
And fn plus to get to the end of the row.

Max,
Thanks for getting me started. However the CMD Left/right arrow does work to go
to the last cell in a row with data, but the Cmd up/down only moves to row 1 or

arrow moves to first or last cel in a row.

Re: For Gabe, Clever keystrokes

2017-11-12 Thread Alex Hall
Hi all,
Here's a guide on AppleVis to using bluetooth keyboards with iOS. After the
link, I'll make some additional comments.
https://www.applevis.com/guides/accessories-bluetooth-ios-ipad-iphone-ipod-touch-voiceover/dont-touch-it-type-it-voiceover

First, no, Quick Nav doesn't need to be on all the time. It speeds things up
sometimes, and sometimes means holding less keys, but you don't actually *need*
it at all. Many of the navigation commands you know from macOS, if you're a Mac
user, will work. Vo-left/right to move (same as left/right swipe), vo-space to
double tap, and so on. Vo-up/down will move through rotor options when
available, such as actions on an email. To change what your rotor is set to,
use vo-cmd-left/right. You can also hold down the command key when using
vo-up/down, if it's easier to just leave all fingers in place when using the
rotor.

If you're on an iPad, vo-left bracket and vo-right bracket will move between
apps visible in split view, as well as landing you on the divider, at which
point you can use vo0up/down to select an options.

I'll let the guide I linked to give you the rest, but there are some non0vo
commands you may want to know too. Cmd-space on a home screen will open
Spotlight, and cmd-h seems to be an alternative way of going home. Many apps
implement keystrokes, so some commands from the Mac will feel familiar.
Cmd-shift-d to send that email, cmd-l to open the address field in Safari,
cmd-n in Twitterrific to write a new tweet, and so on. Developers can add their
own keystrokes, so don't be surprised if you find some available that aren't
related to VoiceOver. To find what you can do, you can sometimes hold down the
command key, though this seems to randomly work. I get a result on the home
screen, but not in Mail or Twitterrific, for instance. I wish there were a
better way. Still, if you know a keystroke from macOS, it can't hurt to give it
a shot.

For Gabe, Clever keystrokes

2017-11-12 Thread Donna Goodin
Hi, Gabe,

So here is what I have so far.

For some reason, you seem to need to have Quicknav on a lot. Turn it on by
pressing the left and right arrow keys simultaneously. If you don't get the
result you want, toggle quicknav and see if it changes.

With Quicknav on, the up and down arrow keys take you through the rotor
options. The right and left arrows take you around the screen. To select or
activate an item, either in or out of the rotor, Press the up and down arrow
keys simultaneously.

The VO keys are Alt and Control. Alt is immediately to the left of the left
spacebar, and CTRL is on the left end.
VO-S toggles speech.
VO-Shift S toggles screen curtain.
VO-H takes you to the home screen.

You can turn the number keys into function keys by pressing the number with the
FN key. The FN key is second one from the left. The function keys perform the
following actions:

F1 Search
F2Select all
F3 copy
F4 paste
F5 Cut
F6 previous track
F7 Play/Pause
F8 Next track
F9 Volume down
F10 Volume up

For now, that's all I've got. Hope this helps.
Cheers,
Donna

RE: trouble with voiceover keystrokes

2017-10-25 Thread Simon Fogarty
Try using command q or command w,
Vo w and vo q aren't the correct key presses.

I am trying to help my friend with his mac. The problem we are having is that
VO+w does not close a window. Likewise, VO+q does not close an app. Is this
something that happens with a new machine out of the box? Do I need to use the
function key in conjunction?

You use command+w to close a window and command+q to quit an
application, these are not voiceover keystrokes at all.

Hi,

Just press the Delete key. A dialog will appear confirming the action, then
the selected item is deleted if confirmed. Return is the default action so, as
long as you're positive that the cursor is on the correct song, you could press
Delete, then Return.

 Let’s say I have a 3 hours long audio MP3.
It’s a movie and I would like to copy in my clipboard, the ending music track.
The section I’m interested in starts at 290.00 minutes and ends at 300.00
 minutes.
Now I’ve my opened file in Amadeus Pro and the next action I must take is to
set my selection from 290 to 300 minutes.
What do you suggest me to do, in order to complete this task?

I'd use the go to function by pressing CMD + g and enter 290 minutes. Now I'd
highlighted the audio file to the end and deleted it.

The second question has to do with tracks.
If I’m on an audio document that contains 4 tracks:
 1. How can I move from one track to another?
press n

 2. How can I know what track I’m on?

press Shift + Space

 3. How can I play only the track I’m on?

Shift + Space

 4. How can I know what part of each track are selected?

I don't think you can select different parts of different tracks at the same
time but I'm not sure about that.

All the best

Hi Maria,

yes, they are. Just open the help section of Amadeus Pro and find them.
Unfortunately they are arranged in a table which are not very accessible to VO.
But you could also try to translate them using Google.

I’dtranslated them myself but at the moment I have to less time left over.
Actually I’dlike my days to have 28 hours. ;-)

That’s the way you can get to know where the insertion point exactly sits.

Moreover, is there a way to have a Voiceover feedback of the position in

There’s a clock in the toolbar which shows the position of the … I’m not
quite sure but I beleive it’s of the insertion point. Please try it out and
you’ll see wether it’s of the insertion point or the playhead. I could
recommend to set a hot spot there. Unfortunately it’s not always reliable in
terms of the chosen audio track.

Another question: if I must cut out the ending of a very large file, How
can I move the play head till the end in order to play it backward and find
the starting of my cut ?

Sorry, I didn’t get what you meant. I find it not recommendable to use the
playhead to move while audio is highlighted. But if there is something
highlighted, you can use a / s and d/ f to change the edges of the
highlighted part. If you changed it press e to hear wether it’s OK now.

Hi,

I have a list of probably the most keystrokes but in german. Was that of help
for you? You can also find a list of keystrokes in the help section of Amadeus
itself but if you are blind using VO this list is not really accessible. It’s
arranged in a table in a pdf file but VO doesn’t recognizes tables in Preview.
Also this list is not complete. The special keystrokes a and f to move the
cursor in very smal steps and hearing instead of seeing the current position by
pressing k and Shift + k isn’t anounced there.

So if it was helpful to you I could send my list or publish it in this
mailinglist.

Hello Lorie,

The other way to get a contextual menu is to bring the mouse (VO-Cmd-F5) then
hold down the Ctrl key and click with the mouse or trackpad.

To get to the bottom of a page in Safari, use the Go to last item command,
VO-Shift-End (End on a laptop is FN-Right Arrow).

Cheers,

Anne

Re: keystrokes

2015-01-02 Thread Alex Hall
The context menu has no keystroke, but you could use a keyboard or trackpad
commander to make it faster.

To jump to the bottom of a webpage, use the normal cmd-down arrow, just like in
documents. This is on Yosemite and later; if it fails, use vo-shift-end. On
keyboards that lack the six pack of keys, function-right is the End key. So,
the keystroke would be vo-shift-fn-right. You need to be interacting with the
HTML content for either of these to work.

Most commonly used keystrokes

Hi, I recently acquired a MacBook Pro about two months ago. This is my first
time using a Mac, what are the most common Lee used keystrokes? I know there is
a list of them on the Internet, but I would like to know what are your personal
most commonly used keystrokes. If you can list what they are and what the
keystroke is I would really appreciate it. This would help me learn how to use
the Mac. I just updated the laptop to Mavericks yesterday.

Re: Most commonly used keystrokes

2014-06-28 Thread 'David Goldfield' via MacVisionaries

Hi.
Well, I'm sure that everyone will have different responses to your question.
First and foremost, I'd encourage you to use Voiceover's keyboard help
mode, similar to the mode found in Windows Screen readers.
Control-option-K or VO and K turns it on; escape turns it off.
In this mode, you can press keys to find out what they do, including
keys for Voiceover. When I was first learning how to use the Mac, I
used this mode to try out any combination I could think of. As an
example, try pressing vo A, vo B, Vo d, etc. to hear voiceover describe
the function of that particular hotkey. Also, try using other modifier
keys along with the VO key, such as vo shift D, vo command left arrow, etc.
I also use quicknav a lot while reading, which lets you move around
with arrow keys without the need to hold the ctrl and option keys.
Press left arrow and right arrow simultaneously to turn it onn; remember
to turn it off while you're writing text on the Web, such as when
entering your name and password on a Web site.

 Hi.
Well, I'm sure that everyone will have different responses to your question.
First and foremost, I'd encourage you to use Voiceover's keyboard help mode,
similar to the mode found in Windows Screen readers. Control-option-K or VO
and K turns it on; escape turns it off.
In this mode, you can press keys to find out what they do, including keys for
Voiceover. When I was first learning how to use the Mac, I used this mode to
try out any combination I could think of. As an example, try pressing vo A,
vo B, Vo d, etc. to hear voiceover describe the function of that particular
hotkey. Also, try using other modifier keys along with the VO key, such as vo
shift D, vo command left arrow, etc.
I also use quicknav a lot while reading, which lets you move around with
arrow keys without the need to hold the ctrl and option keys. Press left
arrow and right arrow simultaneously to turn it onn; remember to turn it off
while you're writing text on the Web, such as when entering your name and
 password on a Web site.

Finally, the new Macbook Airs, and even the Pros from the brief times I've

solid state drives, so have no moving internal parts except for some
amazingly quiet fans you really can't access (the Airs seem to have no fans,

of course they make a myriad of cases for all these devices.

No, command-tab won't work, but go-h is your home button; press h twice

Comparing VO Keystrokes in OS X and iOS?

2014-06-18 Thread Teresa Cochran
Hi, all,

If my poor old late 2009 Mac Mini doesn't have a fried logic board, I'll
replace the hard drive so it can limp along for another year. If it's destined
for the scrap heap, I'm going to get an iPad. I'll probably use a keyboard with
it. I use a Braille display and the virtual keyboard with my iPod 5th gen and
iOS currently. I'm wondering if a lot of the basic VO functions work the same
with the same keystrokes, such as opening apps, text selection, etc.?

Many do, and the non-VO keystrokes for navigating and manipulating text are
identical. Basic navigation (vo-left/right/space) and reading (vo-a/w/c) are
the same, but the iOS platform lacks many advanced keystrokes. For instance,
hotspots/webstpots, vi-key lock, focus/cursor/window information, etc.

Re: Comparing VO Keystrokes in OS X and iOS?

2014-06-18 Thread Teresa Cochran
Thanks, Alex. My thought is that the touch-screen feedback will for the most
part make up for the lack of window information. Between the touch-screen,
Braille display, and keyboard, it seems like I'd be comfortable with the amount
of feedback I would get.

Thanks,
Teresa

speaking keystrokes in password edit boxes

2014-02-13 Thread Jenine Stanley
The iMac setup went fine, save for a few glitches when setting up the email
accounts. My dear spouse only has 5 of them. :)

He did ask me if there is any way to change the behavior of VO in the password
edit boxes. He wants it to read what he's typing there instead of the security
feature of just making sounds.

I could not think for the life of me where in either the VO utility or system
preferences I saw this option.

Also, where do I check so that VO comes on automatically at startup?

Thanks.

Oh and he loves, loves, loves the retina display.

Re: speaking keystrokes in password edit boxes

2014-02-13 Thread Chris H

Hi
I don't believe you can get VoiceOver to speak in password edit fields
which makes a whole lot of sense. To enable VoiceOver at startup this is
not necessary once command-f5 is invoked. Once VoiceOver is on it
remains on until turned off with the same keystroke. Now to have
VoiceOver speak at the log in you need to open System Preferences, Users
and Groups and interact with the log in items category in the table shown.

Regards Chris

Forget it. Voice Over will only click when you type in a password field.
That is a security feature and cannot be changed.

Thanks Chris. Now I just have to get the password that was set for this machine

I understand the reasoning behind having no speech with passwords and generally

his computers remain in the Man Cave and no one goes into said Man Cave but me
so why not be able to hear what one is typing? All righty then.

If that was the only user you set up on the computer, then it will

While I know we are all vo users, these are good to know if vo quits on you,
if a sighted person likes using the keyboard and asks how you get around
without a mouse, if you simply find one of these more convenient, and so
 forth. So, here we go:
Control-f2: go to menu bar (same as vo-m)
ctrl-f3: go to dock (same as vo-d)
ctrl-f4: move between open applications (same as cmd-tab, add shift to go
 backward)
ctrl-f5: move to or from toolbar, if present
ctrl-f8: go to status menus (same as vo-m twice)
So, now you know. I like the ctrl-f5 command, and I often use ctrl-f3 to go
to the dock because it's easier to find than fo-d, but that's just me. Again,
though, these are not dependent on Voiceover being on, though cmd-tab is not
either so I don't know why apple included a second application switching
 command.

disappearing keystrokes?

2012-10-07 Thread Alex Hall
Hi all,
I've noticed that, once every few days, a few keystrokes will not register. For
instance, my email about sharing music over my home network had the subject
sharedia over local network, but I had actually written sharing media over
local network. What is going on here? I have keyboard echo completely off, so
I should hear any busy messages that might block typing. However, I not only
hear no such messages, but I also have found that, when an app is busy and I am
typing, it fills in what I wrote after it stops being busy. Is it just me and
my minuscule amount of ram (2gb on a 2011 mini), or is something else perhaps
going on? Thanks.

VO bug when exiting tables using left navigational gestures or keystrokes

2012-07-31 Thread Daniel Montalvo
Yes, the subject says it all. I've found out that my VO does not
respond properly when, once I've entered a table, I try to go back
using either the VO + left arrow, the single left arrow key with quick
nav on or the one finger left flick on my trackpad. Before I write to
apple reporting this issue I would like to know if you've found out
the same problem. Also it is important to let them know what specific
kind of tables are the ones which generate the conflict. If somebody
has done that work before, it would be great that you share it here if
you want. If not, I'll keep on researching.

Thank you all.

Re: VO bug when exiting tables using left navigational gestures or keystrokes

2012-07-31 Thread Daniel
Hi Alex:

I forgot to mention that it happens in Safari only, where it is not necessary
to interact. What I do to reproduce the bug is the following:

1. Go to a web page that has tables.
2. Get to one of them by using the VO command for next or previous table.
3. Move through the table using the apropiate commands.
4. Try to exit the table by using VO + left arrow, the left arrow when quick
nav is on or the one finger left flick in the trackpad.

What sometimes happens to me is that VO is not able to exit the table. It says
Beginning of row and it's not able to go back. The only way I manage to go
back is by hiting Shift + Tab, which leaves me in the previous focussable item.

Well, if you want give it a try.

keystrokes?

2011-07-26 Thread KliphSharrie
Okay, I'm use to being able to do certain keystrokes to accomplish certain
things. For example, to correct a word during spell check was alt C, to choose
the account I wanted to send from was alt M, and to check how many unread
messages were in a folder was insert page down. Are there similar keystrokes
in mail? I've googled this, and searched through the documentation and menus,
but haven't been able to locate it. Thanks.

Re: Uncommonly used keystrokes for selecting items?

-select them with VO-Command-Space. You can also arrange items
so that you take the minimum number of actions by either filtering the
results (e.g., in Finder, use Command-Option-F to move to the search field,
and type in terms to match, thus cutting down the listed results), and/or
sorting the list of the displayed items (e.g., if I wanted the 5 most recent
files with a certain name, I'd type the name in the search field, then after
interacting with the table I might navigate to the Last Opened column and
sort with VO-Shift-Backslash (on an English input keyboard; in another
language I might have to use VO-H-H and look for the sort command under the
tables menu entry)). If you don't find the view parameter you want to make
sorting easy, you can always add it to your table by bringing up the View
Options (Command-J) and checking what you want (e.g. Date Created, Date
Modified, etc.) -- even just for temporary display and use. I find that
with the combination of filtering and sorting, I can often get away without
having to do non-contiguous selections, and when I do need to select
non-contiguous items in a list, I can cut down my work. Often I can just
filter a result, select all (Command-A), and then modify by de-selecting the
 few items that I don't want .

Re: Uncommonly used keystrokes for selecting items?

2011-05-13 Thread Esther
Hi Rose,

Tim and Colin have already given you an answer on how to select non-contiguous
items in a list, by turning cursor tracking off (VO-Shift-F3) and using
VO-Command-Space. (And I'll just add to what both of them said that the usual
gotcha is to remember to turn cursor tracking back on again with another
VO-Shift-F3 when you're done.) Tim already implied this in his answer, but the
VO-Command-Space key sequence you use to select is a toggle action, and can be
used to de-select any items that have been selected. And as Colin has
answered, you can check the items that are selected at any time with VO-F6, so
if you find that you need to make an adjustment, just navigate to the object
you want to de-select, and use VO-Command-Space again.

Colin also gave you the hint that if you are in a very long list of items
(e.g., in Finder, or perhaps in the Songs table of iTunes where you are
selecting tracks for a playlist that you will create with the Command-Shift-N
New Playlist from Selection shortcut) it is convenient to lock your VoiceOver
keys (VO-Semi-colon), and then just arrow up and down the list pressing
Command-Space to select/deselect and F6 to check your selection (and then
possibly turn cursor tracking back on with Shift-F3, or if you have pressed
Semi-colon to turn lock off first, use the full VO-Shift-F3).

To deselect all items, I would use the second method that Tim outlines: with
cursor tracking on, I move to an item, which selects it (and if you have cursor
tracking on, only the item you have moved to will be selected.) Then I would
use VO-Command-Space to de-select that item, and check with VO-F6 that nothing
was selected. In practice, just turning cursor tracking on gets you out of the
multiple selection issue. Similarly, the other way that people select multiple
items (in contiguous blocks, without turning cursor tracking off) is to simply
hold down the Shift key as they arrow down the list. Again, you can check what
you selected with VO-F6. The fact that selection is a toggle action means that
you can be creative about how you select items. For example, if you want to
select nearly everything in a contiguous list, except for one or two items, you
can hold down your Shift key and arrow up or down. Then you can turn cursor
tracking off (VO-Shift-F3), navigate to the few items you want to de-select
(VO-Up or Down arrow), and de-select them with VO-Command-Space. You can also
arrange items so that you take the minimum number of actions by either
filtering the results (e.g., in Finder, use Command-Option-F to move to the
search field, and type in terms to match, thus cutting down the listed
results), and/or sorting the list of the displayed items (e.g., if I wanted the
5 most recent files with a certain name, I'd type the name in the search field,
then after interacting with the table I might navigate to the Last Opened
column and sort with VO-Shift-Backslash (on an English input keyboard; in
another language I might have to use VO-H-H and look for the sort command under
the tables menu entry)). If you don't find the view parameter you want to make
sorting easy, you can always add it to your table by bringing up the View
Options (Command-J) and checking what you want (e.g. Date Created, Date
Modified, etc.) -- even just for temporary display and use. I find that with
the combination of filtering and sorting, I can often get away without having
to do non-contiguous selections, and when I do need to select non-contiguous
items in a list, I can cut down my work. Often I can just filter a result,
select all (Command-A), and then modify by de-selecting the few items that I
don't want .

VO's response-time to keystrokes slowing down.

2011-02-18 Thread Phantom.Vader
Hi again!

Uh, had something weird happen today. I was working in Garage-band
today, yes, finally got some of the loop issues figured out, and VO
started being *really* slow to respond to keystrokes! As in, like,
I'd press a key, including VO navigation keys, and it would take like
ten full seconds or more to speak! It's never done that to me before,
at least, never that badly or for that long. Anybody know what was
with that? It kind of scared me, because that kind of stuff used to
happen often with Jaws, usually just before it crashed. Have any of
you ever had this happen and know what's causing it?

Thanks!

Re: VO's response-time to keystrokes slowing down.

2011-02-18 Thread Earle M. Harrison
In the Applications folder you will find a utility called disk utility. You
can do a spotlight search for disk utility and probably get it as a top hit.
From the first aid tab, do a verify disk and then repair disk permissions to
see if that improves the situation. If you are using less than 4 GB of memory
you might consider investing in more memory. Also recommend not using system
HD for recording projects, rather using a firewire external drive because audio
is going to eat storage space like mad which will inevitably have a negative
effect on over-all performance. HTH.

Best,

Earle Harrison

2011-02-18 Thread Ricardo Walker
Yeah.

This is a RAM issue. I've noticed it happening more of late though. Usually,
just pressing command tab to switch from garageband to the finder or another
app, and pressing it again to go back to garageband, seems to solve the
problem. And of course, cycle VO off and back on with command F5.

Keystrokes Wanted

2010-08-05 Thread L. T. Reed
Hello Everybody,

I#m not sure if this is the right place to post this request but ...

Could one of you developers include in a future version keystrokes for reading
current, prior, and next sentence in text documents? And, whilst you're at it,
the same for paragraphs?

Regards,

Ted.

All this is currently possible with VoiceOver, see the help menu for details by
pressing control-option-H, go to the Commands Help menu and write sentence or
paragraph to get the commands.

Cheers,
John André

VoiceOver already has this capability, so I have to assume you are referring to
something else.

Re: Keystrokes Wanted

2010-08-05 Thread Linda Adams

LT,

Here are a few more commands for reading text. You can find these and many
more in Chapter 4 of the Getting Started Guide which you can access by pressing
VO H and arrow down. You can access Commands help the same way.

Read a sentence: VO S

Move to the next/previous sentence: FN VO command down/up arrow

Read a paragraph; VO P

Move to the next/previous paragraph: Shift FN VO down/up arrow

HTH,

keystrokes recorder, script help

2010-03-04 Thread william
He all,
I am trying to find a way to record some keystrokes of my keyboard so that I
can make it to run with 1 simple keycombination.
I'll automate more vo-commands to one key-combination.
So, I mean , a kind of script.

In the apple scripteditor, I found a record-button but, I think it was not
working on this way.

Also, in the automator, there was a record-button but this seems to be more
complex.

Do I need a external program for this or is there a other way?

Any help is very welcome

best regards,
William Windels
