Guys,

I don’t believe it. I think I’ve just fixed this. The problem was local, as
guys from rwp originally surmised. I went intoApple Mail/Preferences/E-mail
Accounts. I looked at my iCloud account and looked at mailbox behaviors. It
turned out that the address for that account was shown as kevj...@me.com. I
clicked on it and was able to change it to kevj...@icloud.com.

As a test, I sent this note to the RWP list as a reply to an existing message.
I noticed that, as never before, replying to a message from r...@groups.io now
shows the sender address as kevj...@icloud.com and not kevj...@me.com as
before. when I hit Send, the message was sent and appeared in my inbox because
I receive all messages from this list. Problem solved!
Thanks again for all the patience and help. I apologize for all the traffic
and clutter.

Best,
Kevin

would be of any help. I don’t have Team Viewer or any other similar software
on my Mac mini and I guess we’ll have to talk about that. I think it would be

Hello Simon,

I am postulating that he cannot swap Apple-owned aliases if any Apple-owned
email address is being used as an Apple ID.

His @me.com address is an Apple ID and it is permanently tied to that
particular account.

If, say, his current Apple ID was ke...@kevin.org and he has ke...@icloud.com
set as an alias, then, he could promote the kevin@iCloud address to be that
account's Apple ID. However, once done, Apple clearly states that
ke...@icloud.com would be the permanent email address for that particular
account because the @iCloud.com is owned by Apple.

In short, the only way one can continually swap out email addresses for any one
particular Apple account is if one uses third-party email addresses. Once an
Apple-owned email address is assigned to an account as its Apple ID, it cannot
be modified.

Mark

Hi Kevin & Tim,

Tim if I’m getting this correct then Mark actually did email something out last
week about this, Changing your apple id address, But Kevin you will need to as
tim will possibly confirm also that you need to swap your me.com And icloud.com
addresses over som the icloud address becomes the primary and the me.com
becomes the alias.

I have tried my best to make sure that kevj...@me.com is toast. It is no

the list of e-mail addresses I can choose when sending e-mails. In fact, if I
am currently highlighting an e-mail that came to my iCloud account, initiating
a blank e-mail appears to populate the From field with kevj...@me.com,
regardless of what e-mail address I actually want in the From field. I can’t
remove this me.com address as an option in the From field no matter what I do.
Can anyone help?

Thanks,

2019-06-24 Thread Kevin Gibbs
guys,

Guys,

I’ve read Simon’s comments and everyone else and I need to say that I am
hopelessly confused. Let me restate the situation for those who joined
late.

1. a few years ago, I subscribed to a mailing list called Reapers Without
Peepers. It was hosted by a hosting service called bluegrasspals.com. So,
the message e-mail address was r...@bluegrasspals.com. At least I think
that’s it. I subscribed to this list using kevj...@me.com. I did this
because I wanted my e-mail from this list to be in a general mailbox apart
from my gmail mailbox that I use for business and general purpose
correspondence.

2. A few months back, this mailing list migrated from bluegrasspals.com to
groups.io. So, now the mailing address was r...@groups.io. I decided to
unsubscribe my me.com address and resubscribe to Reapers Without Peepers at
the Groups.io site using my iCloud.com address. This had been created when
me.com essentially “went away.”As a side note, I should say that my
me.com address continues to function in a few rare cases where it appears
to be grandfathered, somehow. But in the main, If accidentally send from
me.com, nobody sees what I send.

3. I soon discovered that, for reasons I never quite understood, I could
post to r...@groups.io using the iCloud.com address and the e-mail would
post. However, and this is the critical part, whenever anyone posted to
the list and I replied to that post, my default sender address would not,
repeat NOT be iCloud.com. It would be me.com. The only solution would be
to always be aware that all outgoing replies, as distinct from original
posts, would be sent via me.com, not iCloud.com. In such a case, it would
be essential to make sure act I had changed the sending e-mail address to
iCloud from me.

To the best of my knowledge, I have promoted my iCloud.com address to be
the primary address associated with my iPhone. I have removed me.com such
that it can’t be used to reach me on FaceTime or on my devices, so far as I
know. However, I can’t remove it from the list of outgoing e-mail
addresses available in Mac Mail, nor can I remove it from my iPhone because
it’s an Apple ID. When I turn that off on my iPhone 7, my entire iCloud
mailbox disappears from my iPhone.

I can post an original message to RWP from iCloud.com and it will show up.
But every time I reply to a post, I have to be very careful to change the
sender address from me.com to iCloud.com and I need to add that’s really
ticking me off, to put it politely! If it is absolutely impossible to
eliminate the need to make this extra step when sending to this particular
mailing list, I guess I’ll just have to deal with it. I have years of
correspondence wit this list as either me.com or iCloud.com. That
correspondence is all in my iCloud inbox. I don’t want to unsubscribe and
resubscribe with my Gmail address because that would effect the purpose of
leaving my RWP e-mail in my iCloud mailbox going forward.

Tim has graciously agreed to meet with me tomorrow. I’m hoping he has Team
Viewer or some other means of remoting into my Mac mini. I suppose I
could dial into iCloud using my DAW, a Windows 10 machine with Team Viewer,
if that would be of any help. I don’t have Team Viewer or any other
similar software on my Mac mini and I guess we’ll have to talk about that.
I think it would be best if he could see my iCloud screens to have the
greatest possible appreciation of my exact situation with e-mail addresses,
aliases, and the like.

I think I’ve explained everything of consequence.

Is there anyway to expunge me.com from the list of outgoing e-mail
addresses in Mac Mail? There is no me.com account in either preferences or
internet accounts. Is there a server I should hose?

I look forward to any available resolution.

HI Mark,

Kevin doesn’t' want to change his apple id but move them so the icloud address
is the primary in his mail account,
And the me.comm becomes his alias
The apple id should't be changed,
My apple id's are all alias addresses to my primary mail box.

Hello Tim,

Thank you for the follow up.

Yes, I see the problem with my suggestion.

Based on my understanding, Apple states that an Apple ID cannot be changed if
the ID is an @me.com, @Mac.com or @iCloud.com address.

Were Kevin's primary email address a third-party email, then he could, indeed,
promote and @me, @Mac, or @iCloud alias to become his new Apple ID. However,
once having done that, he would not be able to change that ID, again. The
point is that once any Apple-owned domain email is set as an Apple ID, that's
it.

Actually, now that I think about it; I have done this, myself. This is to say,
I removed an alias from one of my Apple accounts and in less than a minute, I
was able to use it as an Apple ID.

So, assuming this is still the case, Cannot Kevin separate the alias from his
old Apple ID and then, simply merge the two IDs into one? I know that Apple
does allow this. I believe that this would preserve his purchase history, etc.

Hi mark,

At the moment, his primary eMail address for the Apple ID is the older me.com
address with the iCloud being an alias of the older original address. Yes, one
could delete the alias and create a separate Apple ID for this, but that does
two negative things. First, if any purchases are connected to the origianal
Apple ID, they would no longer be associated with the iCloud address which is
the one he now uses. Second, I believe that the iCloud alias address would be
reserved for a period of time even though it has been deleted, thus making it
unusable until it is released for use. Sorry, I did send the primary
instructions to Kevin off-list already, although he told me that it didn't work
for him. Essentially, what I suggested was to promote the iCloud address to be
the primary Apple ID instead of the older me.com address. This should make it
so that the outgoing messages are definitely coming from the iCloud address.

Apple outlines the process here.

After this has been done, I believe that the problem should be solved.
Although, Kevin mentioned that he was unsuccessful. We will be connecting in a
more direct way hopefully tomorrow to see where the problem lies. This process
is sound and should work and after 30 days or so, he should be able to delete
the older me.com address. It will likely remain unable to be deleted initially
as it takes a bit to release the primary address as far as I'm aware.

HTH.

2019-06-24 Thread M. Taylor

Hi Kevin & Tim,

Tim if I’m getting this correct then Mark actually did email something out last
week about this,
Changing your apple id address,
But Kevin you will need to as tim will possibly confirm also that you need to
swap your me.com
And icloud.com addresses over som the icloud address becomes the primary and
the me.com becomes the alias.

RE: Apple mail insists upon replying from a dead me.com e-mail address when the original e-mail came to my iCloud.com address. Can't seem to prevent this

2019-06-24 Thread Simon Fogarty
Ok, Kevin,

What address are you subscribed to the r...@groups.io<mailto:r...@groups.io>
With?

The icloud,
Me.com
Or the gmail address?

Please note that if you are subscribed to an email list with an alias address
you can not send to that address from the primary address for the associated
mailbox,
You would have to reply with the alias that the mail came in to.

If you had each of your mail accounts as primary addresses in individual mail
boxes setup on your mail client then you should be able to send from or reply
to email lists such as your r...@groups.io<mailto:r...@groups.io> without
issues.
You said the icloud address you have is an alias to your me.com address,

Then if your icloud address is what the r...@groups.io<mailto:r...@groups.io>
is coming into then I’d suggest swapping if possible and I’d say it would be
Your icloud and me.com addresses over so that the icloud.com becomes the
primary address for the mail box and the me.com becomes the alias.
Just because you change a subscription address doesn’t mean you will lose the
mail in the associated or former mailbox in box folder.

This means that if you change the r...@groups.io<mailto:r...@groups.io>
membership to your gmail address the mail already in your rwp mail box will
still be there, it’s just your membership address that will change.

Does this make any more sense to what your trying to do?

The Gmail address is not the point. The relationship is between the iCloud
address and the me.com<http://me.com/> address. The iCloud address is an alias
of the ME.com<http://me.com/> address

this has nothing to do with not being able to reply to this thread from Apple
mail. That was just a side comment. The problem is that replying to e-mails
from the r...@groups.io<mailto:r...@groups.io> mailing list defaults to a
sender of me.com and I am sick of having to manually change that before sending
each and every message to that group. I don’t want to resubscribe with my
Gmail address because I have years of correspondence in my iCloud Inbox.

The fact that I have to post this reply on the web, not just hit Reply in Apple
Mail and have it send from Gmail, is an annoyance. But it’s a side issue.

Can you still help me, tim?

RE: Apple mail insists upon replying from a dead me.com e-mail address when the original e-mail came to my iCloud.com address. Can't seem to prevent this

2019-06-24 Thread M. Taylor

Mark

HTH.

Hi Kevin,

Coming in on this a bit late,

Just so I can confirm what I’m thinking is correct,

The problem occurs if you email from your me.com account you get an error to
say you can’t email that list because you subscribed to it from your
iCloud.com account

Is that correct?

The Gmail address is not the point. The relationship is is between the iCloud
address and the me.com<http://me.com> address. The iCloud address is an alias
of the ME.com<http://ME.com> address this has nothing to do with not being able

Re: Apple mail insists upon replying from a dead me.com e-mail address when the original e-mail came to my iCloud.com address. Can't seem to prevent this

2019-06-24 Thread Kevin Gibbs
The Gmail address is not the point. The relationship is between the iCloud
address and the me.com address. The iCloud address is an alias of the
ME.com address

this has nothing to do with not being able to reply to this thread from
Apple mail. That was just a side comment. The problem is that replying to
e-mails from the r...@groups.io mailing list defaults to a sender of me.com
and I am sick of having to manually change that before sending each and
every message to that group. I don’t want to resubscribe with my Gmail
address because I have years of correspondence in my iCloud Inbox.

The fact that I have to post this reply on the web, not just hit Reply in
Apple Mail and have it send from Gmail, is an annoyance. But it’s a side
issue.

Can you still help me, tim?

2019-06-24 Thread 'Tim Kilburn' via MacVisionaries
Hi Kevin,

The ability to delete an Apple ID is immaterial to your problem. If the new
eMail address is not linked to the older one in any way, then you should be
able to remove it from your Mail app as well as your Internet accounts in
System Prefs. If your new eMail is simply an alias of the old one, then
there's ways around that as well in that you can assign which eMail alias
responds to a message. In either case, you should not be stuck with this
issue. Whoever told you this is wrong. I will continue to work with you if
you wish, it's your call.

RE: Apple mail insists upon replying from a dead me.com e-mail address when the original e-mail came to my iCloud.com address. Can't seem to prevent this

2019-06-23 Thread M. Taylor
Kevin! Kevin! Kevin!

I loved your statement, “I have to kill this if it's the last thing I do.”

Man, I cannot stop laughing. I know exactly, and I do mean, exactly, how you
feel.Your statement, along with its sentiment is going to keep me smiling ,
for a long, long time. Thank you for that.

As to your issue, it sounds to me that you may need to delete your @me.com
alias from either or both your iCloud account and/or your Google account.

In either case, you must do this from your account page.

It’s been a while since I’ve done this on Google but on an iOS device, for
Apple, do the following:

1.
Go to Settings.

2.
Click on your name.

3.
Select the Name, Phone Numbers, and Email, button. A dialog box will appear
that list all of the email address / aliases currently associated with your
Apple ID. To change or delete any items, select the Edit button located near
the upper right corner of the display.

As I said, the issue may be associated with your Google account, also. Best
to check, just in case.

Good Luck, let us know what happens, and above all else, thank you for the
laugh.

Mark

guys,

Following up. I just now attempted to send a fresh e-mail to the Reaper list
shown here. Because I was sending this in Apple Mail while highlighting an
unrelated message that came to my Gmail account, typing in RWP autofilled the
TO field with r...@groups.io as it should. I sent the message and I received
it as I would have expected. But when I attempted to reply to my own thread,
my sender e-mail was kevj...@me.com again. I have to kill this if it's the
last thing I do.

Ideas?

Hi,

Try going to Mail Prefs, Accounts, look through the list of eMail accounts. If
your old account is there, select it, then stop interacting with the Accounts
table and navigate to the Remove button. Also check in the Internet Accounts
pane of System Prefs to see if the old account resides there at all. If so,
delete it from there. If none of that seems to work, go back into Mail Prefs
on the Accounts pane, select your current account, select the Server Settings
tab, and confirm the Outgoing Mail Server is the iCloud server with your
current credentials.

Later...

Sounds like this defunked address is in your past recipients table. You need
to go in to your windows menu off your main menu and find this table and from
there delete the address you don’t want there.

Apple mail insists upon replying from a dead me.com e-mail address when the original e-mail came to my iCloud.com address. Can't seem to prevent this

2019-06-23 Thread Kevin Gibbs
Guys,

Many years ago, I subscribed to a Reaper mailing list using my kevj...@me.com
address. This address is now long dead. I have since unsubscribed and
resubscribed to this mailing list using kevj...@icloud.com. However, even
though my e-mails from this list come to my iCloud address, hitting reply
automatically populates the sending address as kevj...@me.com. If I don’t
happen to remember to click on the outgoing address and change it to
kevj...@icloud.com, the mail will be sent to nowhere and it will take a few
days for me to realize that the reason I haven’t heard from whatever I asked
about is because nobody saw what I wrote.

I have tried my best to make sure that kevj...@me.com is toast. It is no
longer present as a sender’s e-mail address. But it remains as an option in
the list of e-mail addresses I can choose when sending e-mails.

Thanks,
Kevin

Me.com is the address you used to get for iCloud email. It's
been replaced with iCloud.com. Those of us who were around when apple was
giving out me.com addresses have one of each. So I have

Re: me.com e-mail address.

2017-08-12 Thread David Chittenden
I have no idea. I switched to my icloud.com address when it was offered because
I have had email addresses disappear on me in the past. It is also why I use
gmail.

Kawal, did you select your me.com address as the from address?
Was it apple mail you were using. Could you provide little more detail and
I’d be happy to give it a crack.

When I replied it had gone from my Icloud.com address which I don't use as I
