[MBZ] Bad contact
I pulled the dark headlight from our '90 300D/2.5 Turbo and took it into O'Reillys in Edgewood. I found it was a 9004. In looking at the filaments in the store's lights, I did not see anything which looked like a break, so I walked out of the store, put the bulb on the center console, and drove home. The next day I checked it with an ohmmeter: continuity between all pins. I then painted the contacts with DeoxIT and tried it in the car. Sure enough, it had been making bad contact. The contact, even after moving the socket around and inserting and removing it several times, isn't that great -- there are positions to which I can move the socket and the bulb goes out -- but I left it in a position where the bulb lights and it has worked at night since. On another note, a couple of days the fan for the AC suddenly quit. After I visited Shirley in the hospital, I started the car and the fan worked. It has been been intermittent. It didn't work at all today. I presume it's the push button assembly, which needs to have its solder reflowed. How do I get it out? [MBZ] It goes PFFfffffffftttt
I decided to dig just a bit further down into why I was not getting nice cold air from Polei (sdl) I had primed the systems with some mineral oil and a can of air duster a week or so back. That stuff had worked for Allen, but the compressor would not kick in. There was equal pressure on the high and low sides of 70 psi. I checked the aux fan, and it would run with 12v. That is good. The Klima got pulled and I jumped pin 7 to 5 which kicked on the compressor clutch. I figured that was a good time to hook up the manifold gauges and see if I could feed more canned air. With the compressor going, I could feed another 32 oz. Then I got to seeing some little mist and hearing the rush of gasses. Poop! That means I need to go looking for the UV lamp.. in broad daylight. I quit charging and let it piss away. With enough time, the dye began to show. Seems there was a hole in the receiver/drier. I am guessing I will need to flush the system bits that need it and replace the can. Should I just as well replace the pressure switch and temp switch? I have some AC Delco 525 mineral oil on order. That should be a nice addition to the drier instead of the lame FLAPS oil. clay 1974 450sl - Frosch - Two tone green 1986 SDL - Polei 1982 300 SD - Allen retired models- 2002 s430 - Victor, a Stately & well tailored crap 1976 300D - Blei Vanst - it looks silvery 1972 220D - Gump - She was green, simple and ran 1995 E300D - Gave her life to save me against a Dame in a SUV POS 1987 SDL - Beware Nigerian Scammers ___ http://www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com

Re: [MBZ] Axe handles, was Shirley's post-surgery care
I suggest you look at your local ACE hardware store. I find a decent selection there since ACE hardware stores are all "privately owned" unlike the big box stores like Lowes and Home Depot. Hickory is my wood of choice for off the shelf handles.. If I am making my own from scratch, Osage Orange, but work it while it's green and soft [if soft and Osage Orange can ever be used in the same sentence.]. I suggest a good band saw with a fresh blade for the rough out shape, and a honed sharp draw knife with a good pair of gloves and blister care, for final fitting.. Have you used a handle from baileys? Where are they made? Things like this were once a standard thing in hardware stores but now, it seems like all of this stuff comes from the far east and is a rough copy of the originals. The ones that I have found in the local stores are not well shaped. Generally too large - like the lathe was set on a plus 2 setting or something like that. It might be possible to buy one and carve it down easier than making a complete one from scratch but it does seem to me like I should need to do that. I also find it hard to believe that I can only buy something like that online. Hard to tell what one is getting if one cannot see and handle the product. Turns out it was a Mark VIII, a model I was totally unaware of. A nice Metallic Almond Green as Jaguar called it. I did some research and found that it was a really cool car, very nicely appointed, and not many were made, only about 6,000 or so. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jaguar_Mark_VIII Cool. I want to see one of these in the flesh now. -D ___ http://www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com -- --FT Winston Churchill: “Never give in--never, never, never, never, in nothing great or small, large or petty, never give in except to convictions of honor and good sense. Re: [MBZ] Rock Auto AC Compressors
Why did you go four seasons over the real deal Denso? There is not much price difference. In fact I think the Denso may have been cheaper in the case of my car. Ach! who needs a truck. Trucks are highly overrated. OK Don via Mercedes wrote: Regardless of what you call it, it's a decent hauler. I don't know what the weight was, but we hauled a lot of fire bricks, bags of clay and sand, etc. when we built the wood fired oven in the back of the ML and it never noticed. I pulled a large fallen oak tree across the yard with it in the low range - very cool. It wouldn't hold a 4X8 sheet of plywood in the back though . . . Greg Life is funny. You seem determined to define your Mercdes as a "truck". On the other side of that scenario, I recall that we had friends, many years ago, who were insulted when I referred to their full sized Chevy Blazer as a "truck". Used to be that you could buy direct from denso as "rebuilt" units that were actually new (as is often the case). They had their own side, and prices were good. But last one I bought was 10 years ago. Jaime On Fri, Jul 28, 2017 at 5:21 AM Dan--- via Mercedeswrote: > Four Seasons. > > > On Jul 27, 2017, at 10:58 PM, Kaleb C. Re: [MBZ] More cruise control
Looks like varnish to me. I have a gallon can of "Methylene Chloride Free" paint stripper that I've used for all of the ones I've repaired. Works great, but you must be careful to keep it only on the circuit side of the board. I then rinse off the board under running water using a small scrub brush then blow dry. -- Jim ___ http://www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com
