This scenario has highlighted our (US) over-dependence on medical supplies 
(like drugs) from China.  When I was in the military procurement business, we 
had to source everything for critical systems from the US or other 
non-interruptible sources.  IMO, we need similar policies for critical medical 
supplies.

Which leads me to a wonderful short term investment opportunity.  (I have been 
reading up on gold rushes and other short term bonanzas)  A person would do 
very well for themselves investing in publicly traded commercial cleaning 
establishments.  Some poor shmoe has to be out there wiping things down with 
disinfectants.  The janitorial industry is making out like insurance companies 
under OsamaCare.  Get in on the ground floor, before the market figures it out 
and the DOW soars

PNW news outlets are spinning WAGs as soon as any half reliable or interesting 
talking head pops out of the woodwork.  One small group of medical people posit 
it may be an auto immune reaction.  The young have not encountered enough 
interesting things, so all vectors are novel and elicit a mild enough response. 
 The aged have a lifetime of antibodies built up and this one is So Very 
Interesting to them that a massive assault is launched which mirrors an auto 
immune response.

I am not a doctor and do not play one on TV, nor have I played doctor since I 
was out of knee length britches.  Now, go about your business and get off my

I must know retract the auto accident death comparison.  The whoohoo flu has 
killed all the retired folks at the nursing home and that is going to beat 
highway deaths this week.  I think it may have also overtaken heroin OD and 
maybe typhus.  But only for the past week in Seattle.  The socialist justice 
city and state leadership is struggling to right the capsized kayak of their 
faulty leadership.  

There is a chance that the youth will become affected in some unsuspected 
manner by this disease outbreak.  With all the required working from home, the 
low wage barista and burger slingers, as well as underpaid retail slaves will 
be hard pressed to pay for what little food is left on  under stocked store 
shelves.  Hunger will kill a few of them, as the Amazon delivery people will 
also be forced to work from home or wear BSL IV gear to drop off boxes of 
rations.

Gang violence will lead to a novel legal approach.  Self defense, due to "the 
*$$h*le gonna be sneezin’ the beer floo at me”.  Something along the Burning 
Bed defense

Also, where's the fun without a good conspiracy theory? The problem with 
bioweapons is control; once released, they don't discriminate between friend 
and enemy. A good bioweapon might have a very high mortality rate in the first 
months, then mutate and weaken, so by the time it spread back to friendly 
territory, it was weaker than the flu virus.

in various diseases  and run drug companies. Sits on the boards of a few now. 
Smart guy. Knows about this stuff. I asked him about this virus. 

He has been studying up on it. Says risk is extremely low at this point of 
catching it, then becoming symptomatic, then having severe symptoms. Risk is 
higher for those who are older (60+), in poor health, or immuno-compromised. 

So bottom line is (from his knowledge and reasoning) is that while cases will 
continue to grow the risk of not surviving is minimal. He finds the hype 
incredible. 

He and his wife are getting on a plane Saturday to go to Kollyfawnya for a 
coupla weeks. He hopes the mania the next couple days does not interfere with 
their plans. 

This kinda validated my own observations but good to have a real rational 
expert weigh in.

Although death has been proven to cause a loss of reproduction, other long
term effects are, as yet, unknown in full.

The DNA [virus does not actually have "DNA" but it does have something like

They are being reported as SARS , MERSA, and HIV1.
Upon exposure and infection, one of the 3 receptors attaches to the lung

antibodies to resist THAT vector.. say for example SARS.. the body throws
an all in assault against the SARS infection and builds antibodies to

now has antibodies against 1 of the heads after a "dormat stage" one of
the remaining 2 attaches to the host and starts yet another assault... the
host human.. weakened by assault #1 now has to fight assault #2 from a
weakened state...
Followed by assault #3.

If this information is indeed factual, it is a very nasty SOB, and wisdom
says it did not occur in nature [calculate the odds of all three
combining via "natural causes" and then send me the winning lottery numbers
for this weeks drawing please]

Chinese Communist Party certainly knows what was being worked at Wuhan
Level 4 Lab... My bet is this is the root cause of the extreme lock down
and containment efforts.

Then again, it is "above my pay grade", thus mere speculation.

I get plenty of D naturally, but I’ve taken 1000 IU of C daily for years. Not 
sure if it makes a difference, but Linus Pauling seemed to think it did.

should concern folks.  For example, why did the Chinese government respond so 
strongly, basically shutting down the country?  Why is the death rate higher 
near ground zero?  Does the virus recur like herpes or polio?  Are there 
unknown long-tern effects, like sterility?  Etc.  But I suspect Seattle nursing 
homes are still safer than the streets of Chicago, or Philadelphia, or Detroit, 
or LA.

Many flu viruses first infect the mouth, throat, or nose which is probably true 
of the coronavirus as well.

I use two preparations based on povidone-iodine for the throat and mouth which 
will definitely kill coronavirus, and a nasal spray that is based on something 
else that will probably kill the coronavirus.

If you are at the top of the vulnerability chain, you might want to try thses 
which are possibly the most effective you can buy.

Avoiding people with the coronavirus completely is impossible for most 
Americans, so an active program of intercepting the virus before it gets to the 
lungs is worthwhile IMO.

If you're truly vitamin-deficient it's a good idea to correct that. But
don't think that loading up on vitamin C or D is really going to do much
for you, beyond having "enough."

Vitamin D deficiency is a thing though, since so many people have been
scared into thinking that if they're not wearing at least SPF 50
sunscreen at all times that they are going to die of skin cancer.

 We've got a ton of white birch that naturally seeded onto a field at camp, 
probably 5-6 acres of 'em. They're getting to the 6-8" diameter stage and I've 
started cutting them for firewood. They grow in groups of 3 or 4 so I've 
started taking one out of each group.
IIRC birch is 100:1 sap to syrup while maple is 50:1 or so. Also IIRC birch has 
a lighter flavor, I know I've had it but I can't remember where.

their legal to see if I can pay them something to get a clean title 
from them, like buy it off them or pay some discounted cost on the 
loan.  Given it is not running at this point and would cost a fair bit 
to fix it by a dealer or mech it would basically be scrap value 
through Copart or auction or something, and with their fees and costs 
and such they would still be underwater on it.  She is getting me a 
copy of the title showing the lien, then will see how I might be able 
to get it sorted.

Beer virus is a global socialist plot to undermine the current power structure!

I was watching a few commercials and noted there were a few aimed at the AARP 
population.  These are the consistant voting cadre.  Kill the oldsters and you 
eliminate the people who have been putting congress critters and presidents in 
power.  They may not be funding the goons, but they are the party power brokers 
at the local level in USA.  Precinct officers and the organizers at grass roots.

Chicoms are doing better than the ruskies, they cooked up the virus to derail 
the whole election season.  The whoohoo flu tapers off as summer ticks away, 
then it ramps back up big time during Autumn, and is going gang busters by 
November.

that turbo Diesels with manual tranny's were sold elsewhere in the world,
just not here. Of course, it could be a simple as the MBUSA guys thinking

Five people who worked in a Michigan wildlife disease lab have been
diagnosed with a latent form of tuberculosis, a spokesman said Friday.

The Department of Natural Resources' lab processes thousands of deer heads
during the annual hunting season to check for chronic wasting disease and
bovine TB.

TB is an illness caused by bacteria that attack the lungs. It can be fatal,
although a latent form shows no symptoms, doesn't make people feel sick and
is not contagious, according to federal health experts. It typically
involves treatment to prevent full-blown TB.

The DNR learned about the infections last year, including three people in
June and two later in the summer, spokesman Ed Golder said.

"It was discovered through routine testing we do with people who work in
the wildlife disease lab," Golder told the Associated Press.

The story first was reported

 online by *Bridge Magazine*, a news organization.

Golder said it was the department's "working assumption" that the workers
got TB from infected deer "but we can't say for sure."

The lab is located at Michigan State University. Golder said the DNR found
no mistakes with the proper use of personal protection but subsequently
made respirators mandatory during necropsies of all animals.

The lab in 2019 also reduced the number of deer tested each day and limited
the hours that staff can work on the necropsy floor, Golder said.

"There is no way to pinpoint exactly when or how the exposure occurred. The
Lab has been following proven protocols for 25 years without a single
documented exposure until now," lab supervisor Kelly Straka and wildlife
division chief Russ Mason said in a July email to employees.

The state agency informed Democratic Gov. Gretchen Whitmer's office and
roughly 200 employees, but it didn't publicly announce the TB cases last
year. Health consultants had advised that "there wasn't a broader public
health concern," Golder said.

He said the department also wanted to protect the privacy of affected
employees.

Terry Minzey, a DNR wildlife supervisor in the Upper Peninsula, was scolded
by his bosses for disclosing the news in August to a hunter group. He
objected and said the majority of his comments came from the July email

How does it all work in the USA? Do you have some sort of "title" to the 
vehicle? I once bought a Chevy Suburban here in Manitoba and received 
the Texas title from the owner even though I did not need it. Here, the 
vehicle registration form is part of the package that includes the 
licence plate and the insurance (since we have a government run monopoly 
insurance program). We are able to sell things like utility trailers 
without much trouble. Most people seem unable to produce documentation 
for things like utility trailers and the authorities permit us to 
provide a bill of sale saying it is a homemade trailer and no one asks 
many questions but a car of a truck requires that the form on the back 
of the registration document be signed and provided to the buyer along 
with the bill of sale. If you cannot find it, you have to go to an 
authorized agent and pay to get a replacement registration document. We 
had to do that when we were unable to find the papers for an old Toyota 
4Runner that we sold. There may be some means of getting proper 
paperwork for a vehicle if you cannot find the last registered owner but 
it would no doubt be difficult and expensive.

I've owned several cars without AC so that doesn't bother me too much.

But looking more closely at the photos, it looks like the whole car had
a cheap respray with little prep work. Cracked paint covered over and
overspray on the trim. Are BAT auctions like eBay where all the action
happens in the last 5 seconds? I'm guessing it will go well beyond my
limit for a sight-unseen purchase.

but getting a title report is only $6.  That dmv.com site is a private 
company, they want $15 to run a report which seems like it might include 
the lienholder info.  I'll see if my cuz can dig it up, if not I'll get 
a lawyer friend to check the "anticipation of litigation" box.  I might 
sue his *ss

My recollection is that the justification for no turbos with a stickshift was 
that
it was _emissions_ related, not anything functional.  In other words, blame
gov't interference not engineering.  (As if a burp of NOx [?] at a shift was any
significant, or even noticeable, addition to the _cumulative_ crud released in a
day of driving.)

Yeah I have an '83 300D that's kinda rusty and a potential engine/exhaust donor.

I never likeed the AT in those cars, they change up way to early to suit
my taste. I shift them manually from "S" to "D" most of the time.

Like the manual climate controls too

With that and Vermont you should be able to wash the title. However, I’m 
wondering how they avoid cars that have liens on them, that is, do they check 
the VIN with a source that would have information like this, such as the state 
where the transaction took place?

turbo engine is a bolt in, however MB claimed the turbo works so much 
better with the AT that they would not build a turbo with a manual 
trans.  (except in trucks)  I'm not sure how much of that I believe, but 
I'll point out that the 500 to 5000 RPM range of the MB diesels in cars 
is much greater than the something like 500 to 2500 RPM range of truck 
engines.


That said, many manual trans conversions to turbo engines have been done 
in the USA with no apparent ill effects.

A turbo 5 cylinder should bolt right in where an non-turbo
5-cylinder came out.

Exhaust will be different.  And I don't know what Euro  '85
cars have compared to USA, but the USA of that year have a number
of "advancements" that I don't like.  KLIMA relay, extra vacuum
thingies, and other stuff only used that year on OM617 motors.

If I were to mess with it I would find a pre '85 doner car and if
necessary "down-convert" to something earlier.
