Exactly, I figure if you can negotiate a price, especially a larger
price, down a bit, in a minute or two, your "wage" on that could work
out to several $100s/hr. Or, you end up no worse off than you were.
No downside, total upside.

it’s a national retailer (H.H. Gregg) and they have a 60” plasma TV I want.
Now I know they’re selling it at rock bottom so I won’t get concessions on the
price. However, I don’t want to pay them $75 to deliver it because that’s a
rip.

Easy-peasy.

Go in, make nice with the sales guy, have him start writing it up, then mention
how I’m going to transport it in the back of my car laying down (a BIG no-no on
larger TVs, especially plasma.) He starts freaking out. “You can’t transport
these laying down! The glass will crack for sure!”

“Oh, gee, I didn’t know that. I don’t know anyone with a minivan or pickup truck,
and I don’t have money in the budget for $75 worth of delivery charges. Guess we’ll
have to call it off and I’ll just have to shop around for something cheaper
somewhere else."

Salesman glances around to see if anyone is within earshot.

(whispering) “If you can wait and take delivery on Saturday (this is Monday) I
can slip it on a truck that will be in your area and delivery it for free.”

“Deal”.

Everything, I mean everything, is negotiable. You just have to ask. What’s

being evicted on the grounds of being in breach of the contract by
habitually paying late, and having people live there without

Re: [MBZ] OT: Future Hard Disk

2016-07-19 Thread Joel Cairo via Mercedes

I thought DNA was the Next Big Thing in data storage.

--R

On 7/19/16 4:57 AM, archer75--- via Mercedes wrote:

World's smallest hard disk stores data atom by atom

DELFT, Netherlands, July 18 (UPI) -- Researchers in the Netherlands have
unveiled the world's smallest hard disk.

The disk uses chlorine atoms to represent each bit of information, the most
efficient data storage method yet devised. The hard disk stores 1 kilobyte of
data, or 8,000 bits, and features a storage density of 500 Terabits per square
inch -- 500 times better than the most efficient hard desk on the market.

"In theory, this storage density would allow all books ever created by humans to be
written on a single post stamp," lead researcher Sander Otte, a scientist with the
Kavli Institute of Nanoscience at Delft University, said in a news release.

Researchers used a scanning tunneling microscope to manipulate atoms to
represent binary code, the language used to encode data in computers.

"Every bit consists of two positions on a surface of copper atoms, and one chlorine atom that
we can slide back and forth between these two positions," Otte explained. "If the
chlorine atom is in the top position, there is a hole beneath it -- we call this a 1. If the hole
is in the top position and the chlorine atom is therefore on the bottom, then the bit is a 0."

Using the scanning tunneling microscope, scientists can drag holes around on a
copper surface to encode all kinds of information. Researchers liken the hard
disk to a sliding puzzle, where each piece is either an atom or a hole.

Because each chlorine in atom is surrounded by other chlorine atoms, they
remain stable and stationary. Previous attempts to encode data on the atomic
scale have relied on loose, unanchored atoms.

The data on the hard disk is organized into blocks of 8 bytes, or 64 bits. Each
block has a marker made of holes that works like a bar code, revealing the
location of of the block on the copper layer.

The new method promises major improvements in terms of stability and
scalability, but the technology requires significant improvement before it can
be used in a working datacenter.

"In its current form the memory can operate only in very clean vacuum conditions and at liquid
nitrogen temperature, 77 Kelvins, so the actual storage of data on an atomic scale is still some
way off," Otte said. "But through this achievement we have certainly come a big step
closer."

Re: [MBZ] OT - Home AC Question

2016-07-18 Thread Joel Cairo via Mercedes
I just got off the phone with a guy who says he can get me a new
controller board for my LG unit. He used to sell them but has now gone
with Samsung because he says their customer service and responsiveness
is better, but he said they are all decent units.

My local guy would rather put in standard ducted systems, he thinks they
are more reliable from the leakage standpoint as each indoor unit has 4
connections, a standard unit has just 4 for ever how many rooms. The
mini-splits are easier to put in though, and probably more efficient.

Then you run the lines from the outdoor unit up to the lines from
the indoor unit that are sticking out the wall to the outside and
connect those, secure everything to the walls (they have plastic
chases you can buy to cover them if you want).

Mine you can adjust where the output blows, or have it sweep

I find in the winter it helps to have a ceiling fan going slowly

Yep, it sounds like perfect design performance on a design afternoon.
When you think it's too old, or when it quits, replace it with a 4 ton,
preferably two stage condenser. Fortunately, up here in the frosty North, I've
had about 5 cooling design afternoons all summer, and design temp is only for
2-3 hours a day.
And my house is enough smaller / better shaded / better insulated than yours
that I have no idea how hot it would have to get to make my 1.5 Ton unit run
100% duty cycle. Design afternoons are close to 50% duty.

Mitch.

Good points, but in one case there have been advances. In the other
case regression.

My wife got me this little book a few years ago, a short history of the
middle east. It chronicled something fairly similar to Europe with all
the feudal wars and such, but where Europe got past all that, more or
less, at least since Adolf's adventure, the ME continues to be mired in
it, and only money and strong men seem to hold things together. With
Saddam, Muammar, and now Assad being deposed, things go to hell pretty
fast as the fault lines emerge and they revert to their historical
behaviors. If I recall, Mohommed's whole deal was to try to unify them
under a collective religion, and he sorta succeeded in that, at least
with the overall ideology (neglecting the continuing issues among the
different flavors).

in frustration getting it to work.I opted to buy a cable modem rather than pay
Comcast $10/mo to lease/rent one, I also didn't pay them $50 to install it.
Well the modem would never connect so I called a couple times and they sent a
guy out yesterday. We were at breakfast when he arrived but I found a little
filter on the cable coming into the house. It didn't help and I messed around
until I realized that it didn't matter if the cable was plugged in or not. That
got a promise to send another guy. After talking on the phone I thought to grab
my multimeter and get an idea if the wire was on or not but then I took the
simple step of actually LOOKING at the cable, sho nuff it weren't connected at
the pole...
The good news is that our neighbor also has Comcast and has the rented/leased
modem which projects an Xfinity hot spot that I can log into since I'm a
customer so I've been piggybacking on his service for a few days.

Today the guy showed up and ran a new wire for me, its a nice heavy wire, has
special connectors too. With the new wire everything works a treat, 29Mb/s
down, 6Mb/s up. The best we had on DSL was 2.5Mb down and 600Kb up so we're
getting about 10x the speed for $0.05 more a month and I don't have to pay the
$30 a month I was paying for home phone.
Surprisingly Comcast was easy about just getting internet with no phone or TV...

think in SA it is similar. There has been a large shift in demographics

younger people who have somewhat different aspirations than their older
parental generation. The older ones are trying to hard to keep them
content or brainwashed, but at some point it isn't going to keep working

steel bands that encircled it. This was the result:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crystal_River_3_Nuclear_Power_Plant#Outage.2C_repairs_and_closure

Crystal River is a pressurized water reactor that normally produces
860 MWe, but it has been offline since September 2009 when a
refuelling and 20% uprate outage began. While the reactor was down,
the old steam generators were to be replaced. There are 426 steel
/tendons/ within the concrete walls of the reactor containment dome
which reinforce the dome. Plan developer Sargent & Lundy specified
that 97 tendons be loosened. Progress rejected that number as
excessive. The next proposal was 74 tendons, which was typical of
other nuclear plants doing the procedure. According to a Progress
employeee, "de-tensioning the tendons is a very expensive and
time-consuming effort", so the number was further reduced to 65.
Progress engaged Bechtel to
provide a 3rd party review, which agreed that 65 was appropriate.
However, when the work was performed, only 27 tendons were loosened,
and a foreman and supervisor sent emails questioning the way the
tendons were loosened.^[7]

When workers began to cut the access hole for the steam generators, a
crack formed. That crack was repaired, but more cracks appeared.
Engineers noticed that parts of the concrete had delaminated. This was
repaired, and the concrete re-tensioned, but the same problem was
found in other areas. The plant had originally been due to restart in
April 2011 following the uprate, but in June 2011 Progress Energy said
that it did not expect it to restart until 2014. Preliminary cost
estimates for the repairs was put at between $900 million and $1.3
billion,^[3]

but this estimate was later called into question by Duke Energy.^[8]

In October 2012 an independent review estimated the repair cost at
$1.5 billion, with a worst-case scenario of $3.4 billion.^[9]

In February 2013 Duke Energy announced that Crystal River would be
permanently shut down and that they will recover $850 million in
insurance claims.^[4]

A Duke spokesperson stated, "The company sought input from numerous
engineering experts — internally and externally — and used proven
industry-accepted practices when determining how to replace the steam
generators. Analysis has shown that the 2009 delamination (cracking)
could not have been predicted. The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission
confirmed these findings."^[7]

Gregory Jaczko , former
chairman of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission
, stated,
"That's a multi-billion dollar asset that had to be shut down because
of improper work planning, improper understanding of how to properly
do this containment retrofit".^[7]

whole woman aspect, homosexuals, etc. I guess the "good" ones probably
don't have strong views on that stuff, but it seems to be tolerated to
some extent, which is almost as bad as being part of it.

But, in any case, my thoughts are with the people in Nice, out having a

Re: [MBZ] OT HVAC issue

2016-07-14 Thread Joel Cairo via Mercedes
Yeah we tried shutting off and restarting, no go. The board on the
compressor has some LEDs that should be lighting but aren't. The indoor
units are all blinking their light saying they can't talk to the outdoor
unit. They have power off the outdoor unit through a 12V source. I'm
thinking there might be a 5V tap on the transformer too for the circuit
board, I vaguely recall that from my quick perusal of the manual. I
guess I'll check that first, see if it is putting out 5V and the board
is getting power.

yes it is an LG unit. My guy says they have troubles with the
Mitsubishis, which are supposedly "the best" and he does not like the
mini-splits. He also said Mits makes their own, all the other Asian
brands are made by one company he could not remember, so they are all
pretty much the same.

[MBZ] OT HVAC issue

2016-07-14 Thread Joel Cairo via Mercedes
My mini-split quit working the other night, indoor units are blinking 5
times which seems to be a code (if I can understand Korengrish) that
they are no longer communicating with the outdoor compressor unit. I
thought the thing might have gone low on refrigerant but my guy came by
today and hooked up a tank and the thing would not come on, it did not
look like it was low on refrigerant even before he hooked up the tank.
I guess I am going to have to get in and do some troubleshooting on the
board and connections to see if the board fried or what.

In any case we talked about these things, he is not a fan of them as
with all the connections they tend to leak down. I have 16 connections
between the compressor unit and the 4 head units, but it looked like it
has been holding. I mentioned I should just get a tank of gas and some
gauges and have it around to keep my units topped off, he agreed that
was reasonable to do. It's 410A refrigerant, gauges look standard but
he had to use an adaptor to fit the Schrader on the unit. I am
presuming I need to go get an AC "license" to buy the tank of gas,
gauges should be easy to get. The manual gives the whole charging
procedure so nothing exotic there.

Who has gotten a "license" on the EPA site? What's that like? My guy
would probably buy me a tank if I asked him, he's pretty easy about the
whole deal.

Re: [MBZ] Wilton needs this for his new ride

2016-07-13 Thread Joel Cairo via Mercedes

I am now a UROlogist!

Seriously, I am a troublemaker in the local community. I called myself
an agitator until a friend pointed out that was a no-no around here as
that was what the old crackas called the black folks who came here to
stir things up back in the 60s. It is still a bit of sore point though
my good friend who was a major agitator back then loves it and eggs me
on. I hear there is a future in it. Maybe when we finally win the
Waawww it will be OK.

I speak Truth to Power and they don't like it. I am a part of a cabal
in that regard, they fear our presence at their schemings. Even when we
aren't there we live in their minds. The gummint does not like the
subjects to speak up, esp when some of them are very invested in their
shady schemes. Certain elected officials either go out of their way to
avoid us, or make it a point to berate us for calling them out on their
foolishness (which is way too easy to do, but generally fun). Others
have become friends, which is interesting. The paper does, however,
like it as it gives them something interesting to print and occasionally
generates an ongoing letters-to-the-editor thread on the editorial
page. I give great quotes for articles and TV interviews, write LTEs
and op-eds, generally be a PITA.

My wife joined in 3 or 4 years ago with a really good LTE, and it got
her a reprimand at work from the head guy, first thing in the morning
even before she had seen the LTE (them good ol' boys have an early long
reach!) and 2 or 3 LTEs in response the next week or so, none of them
laudatory. At first she didn't even know what he was going on about,
and he wasn't too enthusiastic about it either but had to appease the
good ol' boys and report back she had been properly reprimanded. Her
boss liked it but told her to lay low for awhile... It was awesome,
it's great to cause headaches, dyspepsia, constipation, and high blood
pressure in the scalawags when they read the morning paper. I saw one
of them later, a state rep who had installed his brother (who owns a
Greek restaurant!) on the board of the place, and called him out on
that, he protested too much with much harrumphing and blathering, said
his brother knew about food service so could help the cafeteria
operations... I saw him a coupla weeks ago and was going to say hi but
he saw me coming and turned away. SCORE!!!

You know that old saying, when you throw a rock at a pack of dogs the
one that yelps is the one you hit...

That is correct. I had the powerco come and run a new line to the house
for 300A service. They came off the transformer on the pole with new
line, ran it to a junction box, then ran new underground line to my
meter box (which a powerco guy I know had given me off his truck a
coupla years prior, so even that was theirs). I had to supply a 3" PVC
conduit fitting on my meter box, they provided 3" conduit the rest of
the way to the junction box, and put in their meter on my box. I have
no idea why they didn't have a 3" fitting for the box ("we just don't do
it"), I had to go off to get one.

Basically anything electrical on their side of the meter is theirs (as
is the meter). It might be a local thing about the pipe and connector
thing on the house that the lines go into on their way to the meter.

Listers,

The local veterinary who has a 10-20,000 square foot animal hospital has

had

a failure of the power companies line from the pole to the clinic.
He's essentially out of business with the computer system, xray system,

and

A/C not working since the daily temps are in the 90F's around here.

Duke Power Company said they "would try to expedite" their repair order,
but Duke has not been "user friendly" in this area, so when it will get

fixed is

anyones guess.

His wife said they would rent a large portable diesel power until capable

of

powering the whole clinic if one was available since they will be losing a

great

deal of money every day they are down, and the animals under their care

will

be suffering.

Does anyone know what a company that rents portable power units would be
called and how listed on the internet?
They have three large A/C units, and probably use an equal amount of power
or more for other systems in the hospital.

Thanks,
Gerry

On a similar aspect, last night on the flix I was watching some show
called "Roadkill" which is mildly entertaining. They were doing some
sort of comparison to a Lambo Aventador and a seriously
chopped/channeled rat rod that was pretty much a rolling POS but sorta
interesting. They observed that the guys were drawn to the Lambo, while
the ladies were drawn to the rat rod. I have no idea if they accurately

Natural gas for a rental won’t happen. They don’t exist, or if they do, I’ve never seen one. The availability of fuel and difficulty in establishing a connection makes it near impossible to do. The volume of fuel required for a decent sized set would require a large connection and completely different metering and regulation than what is used for residential or commercial buildings.

Any rental will be a trailer mounted diesel set. They will have to employ an
electrician to make the connection to their building.

Based on Gerry’s description, 10kW won’t come close to cutting it. With three
AC units and the remaining loads, I’m guessing a 50kW would probably be a unit
that would do the job. That’s a wild guess, of course, without having more
details. An X-ray machine is a really horrible, nasty load for a generator,
too. Huge inrush currents that make voltage regulators go crazy.

Ring Power is another possibility, but that’s the local Caterpillar guys and
they will be stupid expensive.

This 560 SEC spent its entire life in the Washington, DC area. It has

Steering box replaced and no rattling shifter bushings.

Re: [MBZ] OT: My friend's 1989 560 SE C [shameless commerce]

Is he willing to finance? How low will he go on the price? Would he be
interested in a trade for a newer (1998) Cadillac?

Up for sale is a beautiful example of one of the nicest coupes
Mercedes-Benz has ever produced.

It is a two-owner 1989 560 SEC with original 108,000 low, pampered miles
(under 5 K. miles/year).

This 560 SEC spent its entire life in the Washington, DC area. It has been
well serviced and maintained all its life, with plenty of records and
documentation. Everything works like it should with no known issues.
Steering box replaced and no rattling shifter bushings.

The motor runs smooth and powerful, and the transmission shifts very
smoothly. The cosmetic condition is also superb.

All chrome parts look very nice without any dull spots. The interior is in
above average condition with just normal signs of wear and tear. It is a
non-smoker car with no unusual odors at all.

If you are in the market for a great 560 SEC with a very reasonable price,
this is the one!

Feel free to call nnn-nnn- with any questions you might have.
*Price: *$9,900 obo.

*Extra Notes *

The late 1980s were a good time for Mercedes, the strength of the dollar
pushing orders and production to record-breaking levels. The byproduct of
that success was a zealous and well-funded R department that helped
Mercedes carry on their reputation for perpetual technological advancement
and the highest possible build-quality. That quality is immediately
apparent from behind the wheel of this car. Smooth, powerful and abundantly
stable and balanced, it's hard to imagine a more comfortable,
driver-friendly car despite its 27 years. Cutting edge in 1989, the W126
model SEC fulfilled and still fulfills all of the core requirements of a
flagship luxury coupe, making the advancements of the subsequent quarter
decade seem like unnecessary window-dressing. Buyers had to pay for the
privilege of owning these cars, with the original sticker price being
nearly $83k. Adjusting for inflation, that's more that $160k in today's
money.

The car's design is entirely representative of its “top-of-the-line”
exclusivity. Big, bold and 1980's angular, the car embodies a practical
strength while still remaining elegant and well proportioned. This is only
enhanced by the timelessly clean Black-on-Black, which is in very good
condition, commensurate with the car's low, well-looked-after mileage.
Marred only by minor imperfections to the paint (none of which are
significant enough to detract from the car's overall appeal or even appear
in the pictures), the car's tank-like body is in excellent condition, and
retaining factory consistent gaps and panel fits.

The car's interior is equally as clean, the tasteful black leather seats
exhibiting only the slightest amount of wear and the interior carpets and
panels all flawless. The dash is free of cracks or warping and the control
console houses fully functioning switchgear and gauges. The power sunroof,
power seats, heated seats, power windows, air conditioning, temperature
controls and Alpine 12 CD Changer and Cassette Player all function
properly. All of the glass, rubber and chrome is in good shape. The new
alloy wheels are beautiful, and they're wrapped in top Michelin tires with
plenty of remaining tread.

The car is also mechanically sound, the engine starting without hesitation,
idling smoothly and pulling strongly through each of the transmission's
gears. Road manners are top notch, as are handling and braking, and the car
is comfortable whether tooling through town running errands or bombing down
the highway. Built for the Autobahn, the tried and true M117 5.6L V8 engine
leaps into action when asked, providing trademark Mercedes torque and
pulling the car quickly from 50mph to 100mph. And because of its stability
and smooth suspension, it's not an uncommon experience to look down at the
speedometer and realize that you're traveling significantly faster than you
thought. Having spent its life garaged and never exposed to the elements,
the car's undercarriage is completely rust-free and solid. Upholstered in
unmolested carpeting, the expansive trunk houses an unused full size spare
tire and the car's original tools, and the car comes with its original
owner's manual, books and three original keys.

This is a great opportunity to acquire a gorgeous, low mileage and
mechanically excellent example of one of Mercedes' most impressive models.
With a vast majority of the 560SECs produced having been driven into the
ground, finding clean, low mileage examples is uncommon today and ever more
so. It's our opinion that because of their timeless

Perhaps you can help with a translation:

"Be sure to short pressure S/W. otherwise Low pressure S/W detect low
pressure skete and stops the compressor."

My split system quit cooling last night, the head units are blinking
which I think (if my Korenglish is working) means the refrigerant is
low. My HVAC guy is slammed but says he'll come tomorrow which will be OK.

I am thinking I need to get the "license" and watch what he does then
just buy a gauge set and a tank of gas and do my own topping off every
year. Actually I have watched and it is pretty much just getting enough
in for the pressures to come up properly.

These mini-splits are great but there are on my system 16 connections (2
at each head unit and 8 on the outside unit) so the probability of even
a very tiny leak is fairly high, and those compression connections are
somewhat problematic even when being very careful on the connections.
This charge has lasted since Nov '14 so that is not bad, considering.

Re: [MBZ] OT internet

2016-07-12 Thread Joel Cairo via Mercedes
I'm not sure how FIOS (Verizon's fiber-based service) is provisioned to
the house, if you actually have a fiber drop at your interface or what,
but "fiber running down the street" might be the trunk line that goes
into the switch in your area, from there it goes out copper to your
house, and depending on how far you are from the switch it might not be
possible to get DSL (or Uverse VOIP/intertubes). I have a switch just a
coupla hundred yards from the (copper) terminal on the road at the end
of the driveway, then maybe 1000ft of copper to the house from that.
There is a fiber line running along the road too but it does not go to
houses.

I got Uverse a coupla years ago for phone and intertubes, had one modem
fail which they fixed and then tried to charge me for. I got the
"introductory" rate which they tried to jack up by 50% last year, I
threatened to quit so they reinstituted the rate again. It's all a
racket no matter which you get.

When the zombie apocalypse or the Sword of Allah falls I think your
friends might be Mr. Browning, Ruger, Smitth, Wesson, etc. rather than

Contact local telco to inquire about DSL.

Uverse (from BellSouth / ATT) seems to be a marketing scheme to tie you
into a special modem / router that provides DSL service bundled with
voice-over-IP, which now becomes a single point failure. Special modem
dies or locks up, no more house phone or internet. If you are comfortable
that your cell phones will work, including after the EMP attack or the
earth quake or tornado or the zombie apocalypse, then go for it.

Re: [MBZ] OT refrigerators

2016-07-09 Thread Joel Cairo via Mercedes
I bought a big (the biggest) Samsung top-french-door, bottom drawer
fridge about 1.5 yr ago, I think it is like 33cuft. The bottom ice
maker quit working about 9 months ago, guy came and determined the fill
tube had cracked and frozen up, replaced that and it started making ice
again. This was just some little plastic tube about a foot long. But
it goes on strike every few days and I have to hit the reset button on
the ice maker to get it to cycle and start making ice again. The
adverts say it can make up to 10lb ice a day, that is more like 10lb/wk
if it keeps working. The top maker that feeds the door seems to work
OK, I think I only had to recycle it once when it ran out of ice in the
drawer. The bottom ice maker is now starting to get wonky again, I
might call them soon and have them come and replace it.

The top ice maker holds maybe 5lb of ice, the bottom is just a big tray
under the maker that the ice dumps in then slides out when you pull out
the drawer.

The fridge part is kinda nice except to get the bottom meat drawer open
(it is as wide as the interior) you have to open both doors. There are
2 1/2 drawers for vegs, you can open them either side with just that
door open.

The guy who came said they have a lot of problems with the Samsungs and
LGs and whatnot, none of them are very high quality these days and
probably won't last that long as they use small motors and compressors
to get the energy ratings but since they are running flat out they wear
out fast. Plus that fill tube issue was a common one, go figure a $3
part fails like that so easy.

I bought the extended warranty, 3 years I think, so I am covered another
1.5yr.

My SIL has a Bosch fridge though it is not that big and is a
side-by-side, but it is a nice unit.

I was going to put a dedicated ice maker in my new kitchen but my wife
had a fit about it for some reason I could not understand. Last weekend
we had a bunch of people here, and of course ran out of ice in about 2
hours. Sent the kids to get a coupla bags, my wife remarked we needed a
bigger ice maker... duh ya think? I think that is the way to go, put
one in your shed and have as much as you want.

Our current refrigerator is a Whirlpool side by side stainless. With
these side by sides there never seems to be enough room. Also, the
ice maker in it will hold enough ice to fill up my big thermos water
jug that I use when working outside on car lots. If I end up having to
work outside more than 1 day in a row the ice maker will not fill back
up by the next morning between using all of the ice in the morning and
whatever is used in the house during the day. Usually by the time I
get home in the afternoon it has filled about half way back up, then
we use ice in the evening using most of what was made, then in the
morning it is filled about half way back up again. After a couple of
days I really do not have enough ice to fill up my jug. So this leads
me to start looking at these new french door refrigerators with the
slide out freezer in the bottom. I am most interested in one that has
dual ice makers, they have one in the door and one in the bottom
freezer. We do not use bulk ice that often but when we need it, it
would be great to have it. In my little bit of research I am tending
to lean toward Samsung or LG. The Whirlpool/Maytag/GE seems like they
are way more expensive than what you can get from LG/Samsung. Anybody
have any refrigerator experience they would like to share? Online
reviews seem to be no help really. Any website I find seems to be an
advertisement for 1 brand or the other. Also, Lowes seems to be
having a massive sale that lasts a few more days.

Farmers turn tobacco into jet fuelPublished: Thursday, July 7, 2016

As demand for tobacco goes down, farmers have had to adapt to stay in
business. And some are finding a new use for the crop as aviation biofuel.

Robert Mills of Briar View Farms in Callands, Va., hopes the shift will
help him turn a profit.

"With the uncertainty of tobacco, growers are always looking for new
opportunities," he said.

For over six years, Tyton BioEnergy Systems has partnered with tobacco
growers and agronomists from Virginia Tech and North Carolina State
University to research and better understand the potential for converting
tobacco into fuel.

Mills contracts with this agency for the 2 acres of tobacco he grows for
biofuel.

"There is a lot of land not being used in tobacco regions that isn't good
for growing row crops," said Tyton co-founder Peter Majeranowski. "Instead
of growing low-value crops like hay, farmers can earn more revenue per acre
growing 'energy tobacco'" (Jodi Helmer, London *Guardian*

I just saw on the Propaganda Broadcasting System news a clip of Comey,
who said they pretty much compromised classified information by
sloppiness or "carelessness," using multiple personal servers and
devices that likely got hacked by foreign players, etc., 14 minutes of
evidence of wrongdoing. Those are all criminal violations of the
Espionage Act and should have been turned over to a US Attorney for

Intent has nothing to do with the wording of the law, which is pretty
clear that if you do any of that stuff he enumerated by "gross

Re: [MBZ] July 4th

2016-07-05 Thread Joel Cairo via Mercedes
"Gross negligence" is a lower bar; whereas, "intent" in the other parts
of the law are a bit more of a challenge to prove in that it would have
to be shown that the point of the exercise was not just "convenience"
but to actually actively deliver classified info to a foreign power
(though that could have happened through active convenient "gross
negligence").

So, generally, even if you are too stupid or lazy to actually carry
through with contacting a foreign power, if you just leave stuff around
(like on unsecured servers and various devices) for anyone to see you
are guilty of gross negligence. Not to even consider sending it flying
all over the innertubes on various devices...

Then there is the aspect of copying all that stuff to a flash drive and
giving it to your lawyer, who has no security clearance, to be
"reviewed" and stored in an office safe which is not a secure facility
and likely accessible to a variety of (non-cleared) people. It seems
that just by trying to deal with the whole controversy, many more laws
were broken wrt to protection of classified information.

Then there is the aspect of telling your people to go into a SCIF and
collect info, copy it somehow (somehow!), and strip off the
classification markings, and send it in the clear, per a direct email
from Herself.

   (g) If two or more persons conspire to violate any of the foregoing
provisions of this section, and one or more of such persons do any
act to effect the object of the conspiracy, each of the parties to
such conspiracy shall be subject to the punishment provided for the
offense which is the object of such conspiracy.

Move along...

hacked by foreign players, etc., 14 minutes of evidence of wrongdoing.
Those are all criminal violations of the Espionage Act and should have been
turned over to a US Attorney for presentation to a Federal Grand Jury for
an indictment.

Intent has nothing to do with the wording of the law, which is pretty
clear that if you do any of that stuff he enumerated by "gross negligence,"
you have committed espionage. "Intent" is covered in other portions of the
