So, folks, I drove over to Bluffton SC and bought an EV and carried it back to tybee on my rollback. Actually it’s a Ryobi zero turn 30 inch cut LiH battery powered lawnmower. It is pretty odd … it runs and steers with a right hand joystick and the only conventional control is a foot brake. I’ll take it off the truck tomorrow …. I think they cost $3k and this one is like new with tags … guy said he to it discounted from Home Depot . I paid $2k and figure if it sucks I can probably sell it on. Mercedes content … I’d have moved it in the sprinter but I have a press in it . I drove up to Oakton VA last week and moved a couple of presses for a bunch of $$. I have a stand of it behind an Athens, ga house and it has spread way more than I would have liked Drove my sprinter about 1000 miles over the last week or so dragging a trailer with a 1200 lb printing press on it . I almost lost a trailer wheel … when I paused after 700 miles on tybee I saw that there weee no bearings in one of the hubs … I grabbed a complete hub and bearings off another little camper and it fit and worked for 250 miles. Folks, So I have a fairly new … don’t see a date 25 cuft GE bottom freezer drawer refrigerator/ freezer. I’ve had it 2-3 years. Current problem is it’s pretty warm in the refrigerator top part … like 50+ degrees and all is normal cold in the freezer. I think this happened a few years ago and we thawed it completely for a couple of days and it came back to life. I’m about to do the same but I wonder if any of you have any ideas or experience on this GE model ? Folks I use older epson r260 6 color for photo prints ….. I run them with dye ink in refillable chinese cartridges …. Folks I want to buy another isuzu Npr rollback up near Atlanta on Tuesday and ended up with a blown up 1994 Camry …. Maybe timing chain …. Just a little thump at 70 mph and the engine was locked up …. Stranded 20 south of Macon …. Wrecker ride and talked a Lyft driver into taking us and the dog 170 miles home for $130 and ended up getting catheritized in the hospital at 3 am ….. look at my Instagram @printerrickthe for the story in better form Then I went back to Atlanta Wednesday night and slept overnight in the sprinter with a sleeping bag, cocker spaniel dog and a nice extra blanket at about 28f …. We were toasty enough…. Bought the new 1995 148 k miles isuzu Npr rollback and hauled the sprinter to Macon, dropped it and hauled the busted camry to my GF mother’s house and reloaded the sprinter and came home to tybee island…. Drove the new truck 360 miles and I hate hate the 5 speed manual over the autos in my others so I immediately put it for sale on fakebook for 10k over my purchase price …. Other than a manual it’s a nice little truck …. I wonder what failed on the 95 v6 Camry …. Has a chain and maybe 160k miles …. Folks We have a lovely yellow tiny 24 inch yellow Viking range…. I bought it from a junk guy for $100 5 years ago. Lighting the oven is often flakey … delays etc. It has an igniter …. Whirlpool China ones are $20 and work and real Viking is $120 or something …. I replace them probably every couple of years . I did it last night and it lights quickly. The heated color of the old and new igniter are close to the same … maybe the new is closer to white hot. Anyway it works perfectly now with the new igniter. So I made a couple of quiches which are still in the oven Happy thanksgiving y’all! Folks I just got a cheap HF mig 110v welder like new from a neighbor … seems a bit crappy with only 2 amp settings … I think 80 and 90 amps …. Why so few Was trying to patch a steel burner from our Viking gas range … apparently the igniter caused a quarter sized blowout in the steel oven bake burner In trying to patch it up, I notice that even when the arc is going I can’t see a thing …. In bright sunlight …. Never had this problem …. Not auto darkening hood …. I just bought an Amazon returned one for $28 ….are they usable?? Folks I bought some lawnmower gas today here on tybee island … I like to use ethanol free and it cost $16 to over fill a 2 and 1 gal gas can … almost $5 a gal!! In Savannah the spread between diesel and petrol is only about 20 cents … I think diesel is about 3.69 or 3.79 and gas .20 less. So … I’ve been busting ass working on the new isuzu Npr Chevy box truck. I replaced the front brake pads. Still no brake pedal. Then I bled the system and it’s like a new truck. Perfect brakes!! The recharged ac is still ice cold. I replaced the wipers and the front shocks. I topped off the oil and the transmission fluid is ok. I replaced one front shock and will do the other one. I lubed the doors and the tilt cab mechanism. I aired all the tires … the front are new looking but about five years old … I’m going to run them …. The rears look old … I’m going to swap them with the wheels and tires from my isuzu chassis safari trek spaceship motorhome … they are about 4 years old and have less than probably 5k miles so I need to use them up. I replaced the cab marker lights with led …. They are colder color temp and the led bulbs don’t heat up the lens which is nice. I’m going to do the rear box marker lights too because I can reach them easily but I’ll leave the side ones for another day. I’m waiting on an Amazon fuse looking led bulb for the dome light. This truck should be DOT but I insured it as a motor home and intend to fit out a tiny camper in the front of the box … l need an RV door and a window or two … I’m going to do this. I’ll take it on a 111 mile trip to the vast warehouses in Denmark, SC … I have 4 tons of red 81/2 x11 card stock to move. Still to do after the tire switch ….. change oil and filter and maybe transmission and I want to check and top off rear end ….I wonder if it’s 90 weight or something else. I have an 1100 page factory manual I found on the webs that really covers everything. There is a lot of stuff to fix to bring a machine back to life. At this point, I think I would drive it to the left coast. Mercedes content: working on this ride is much like working on my 300td which is parked but easier because it has more ground clearance. The newer you buy, the longer the range My daughter had two teslas … a used model S and a bought new model 3 …. They are perfect cars ….The S was leased and they gave it back but they bought the Model 3 and she now has 80k miles on it …. Folk I’ve been looking for a leaf say 2012-15 for a max of $1500 or so … and they can be had for that with low range like say 20 miles … failed battery …. I am wondering if you can open the pack and cherry pick the good cells and replace the bad with some more good ones and get it back up to 85 mile range …. Apparently you can replace the pack with say a 2017 model ….for like $10k but then you might have 175 plus range In other news … the bed failed on my rollback … I assumed it was the PTO not engaging … I pulled that and got some experts to disassemble and re seal it … it has hydraulic clutches that run off the Isuzu NPR Aisan (I think that is the brand) transmission. I reinstalled it and it worked …. Still no action on the bed . I realized that it was out of hydraulic fluid …. I had to refill the tank under the bed with a hose since the bed wouldn’t slide …. THEN I realized that there was a leak at a hydraulic filter assembly. It had a clogged filter indicator that had apparently melted …. I thought I could plug it with 1/2 inch pipe plug but it didn’t fit . I finally found a straight threaded 1/2 inch plug with an o ring on Amazon for $1.47 delivered … how do they do that? The plug fit and I reassembled everything and we dumped about 7 gals of AW 32 hydraulic oil $75 and $85 for 5 gals from the flaps but I ordered some more from Walmart for $55 or so for 5 gals. I need it for some forklifts too. Anyway, I’m delighted to have the rollback rolling. [MBZ] Watering batteries
Folks We do not have enough time in our dwindling years …. I know a very few of you are slightly young I just watered the 2 large batteries on my rollback truck …. I didn’t think watering was a ting any more but this has caps and all cells seemed about 5 ounces low …. Since the truck is down I watered it and put it on a 6 amp charge which I will run for days The project required disconnection of the negative cables and removing the hold down bar and by the time it was done I had depleted another of my dwindling hours It’s done and maybe my life will be better for it …. Especially if the experts fix the pto Then I can reinstall it, oh joy …. It’s not too hard, only 8 nuts or bolts (very tight open end wrench land only and a couple of hoses and two bolts to mount the hydraulic pump back on the end What’s the point? I guess I am lamenting that we are not 30 or 40 or even 60 years old now. Boy do I wish I knew what I know now, then. Poor me, living the dream on tybee island! Folks What is wrong is an unknown …. Maybe just head gasket, possibly more I think I can spend my dwindling years on other nightmare projects …. You buy it $2k! I have other projects such as the failed Chelsea pto on my isuzu rollback … it won’t engage and operates by putting ATF pressure/fluid into some clutches …. The solenoid valve tests fine so problem is either in the PTO clutches or no pressure from the automatic transmission …. Folks, I like the stop leak for the human body thoughts….. aspirin or blood thinners DO thin blood to the point that bleeding is harder to stop and I assume there are drugs to thicken it for surgery for example. As for epoxy leak stop additive or whatever it is …. Perhaps it only hardens where there is the heat of combustion … I don’t even know if it is even epoxy. And then it might not last very long. I don’t care if I have to take a $1500 bath on the car … I’d consider a $2k sale for the hovercraft with bad head gasket or worst a lucky day … I’m perfectly willing to move on. Right now there are a TON of mercedes wagons for sale in Georgia, SC and NC. Not keeping it seems like a good idea. I kind of would a $1000 Nissan leaf to play with …. One with a bad battery. Apparently if you can find a big battery from a 2017 leaf you can beef up the rear springs and install it in a 2011-13 older model and then you can get maybe 150 or 175 mile range which would be a useful car. I did drive a leaf around Atlanta some a few years ago and it was a delight. Although my daughter had two Teslas and now one, I’ve never driven one … they live in California, of course. And I wouldn’t even pay $10k for a beater Tesla. And I smelled a whiff of oil …..should I put epoxy in the water to seal it up …. There are some systems for alleged head gasket repair. I know two people who successfully used it on, I think fords. [MBZ] E320 hovercraft 2002 wagon
Folks, So I removed the front pan of the E320 hovercraft 2002 wagon this afternoon. After running the engine a while I was able to see that the water leak was coming from the coolant reservoir overflow. The car came with the wrong cap …. I ordered one and was sent a screw on plastic one … I took the cap off my 123 wagon and it seemed to fit …. I ordered a Chinese copy of the 123 wagon cap … it fit but was harder to install than the 123 cap so I put that one on the hovercraft …. Anyway it was leaking from the overflow. When I installed the Chinese 123 style radiator cap the leak stopped !!! Maybe the problem is solved. I’m going to drive it 15 miles in a day or two and see if the water loss is stopped. I can only hope. Now I’m going to replace the frayed serpentine belt … looks super easy. I will inspect the tensioner pulley and the idler pulley and if they are crappy I’ll replace them with high priced Chinese copies of the Mercedes parts for $10 and $22 each … from the big women. This is what I did on my dodge Mercedes sprinter and they have seemed to be fine for a year or so. Folks I did some more experiments The radiator is dry and looks brand new I idled the car for 15 minutes and SAW no leaks but it is dripping Maybe it’s the lower radiator hose …. Folks Got the Georgia bonded title for the 2002 Indian Bajaj scooter today … about 10 forms but cost was only $100 for online purchased $5k bond … I bought it and the filled out forms were in my email 30 seconds later then $1 for short subscription to a vehicle report service and $28 in tag fees … so $129 … but remember I had a real open signed title from previous owner that was lost in the mail … I did have a copy of it, though. Stupid hassle. She also gave me serial numbers for three now homemade trailers that I can get inspected by a cop and license!!! Ok, now to the 2002 e320 hovercraft wagon …. Folks I’ve been replacing fluorescent lights with led tubes … I buy 3000k temperature which are yellow warm rather than the colder 4000 and 5000 kelvin The tubes I get take 110 volts at each end so you end up cutting out the ballast … I usually just leave them in place …. And then rewiring power directly to the end sockets …. I’ve done a bunch I think I pay maybe $5-6 a tube Shopping carefully on amazon I also bought some flush Mount 4 foot double tube fixtures that are nice and I used six for an office and one in a kitchen ….. they have a temperature switch so you can choose the color of the light … I’m not sure if you can change the tubes but they only cost about $120 for a pack of 8 fixtures on amazon I have a bunch of old 8 foot fixtures in my Denmark sc warehouse that I’m going to replace with 8 footers that cost maybe $8 or $10 …. Folks I sold a 2002 Bajaj Chetak motor scooter to some guy in Texas … I had an open title signed by the previous owner …. I mailed it to him and it was apparently LOST in the mail Aparently I can get a bonded title in Georgia … I post a $5000 bond … cost of that is $100 through many services and fill out about 6 forms … fortunately I still have a copy of the title and a bill of sale from the previous owner …. We will see how that goes. Of course he was not to be found … he could even be dead I’ve had the scooter for probably 14 years We will see how this all goes This could be a handy way to get a missing title And I’m still waiting for another auxiliary coolant pump which will hopefully fir the e320 hovercraft wagon heat! Folks, Our daughter in 2008-12 drove a Peugeot 505 wagon and a 2000 Cadillac and a 300td as well as her own 1983 300d to high school I’ve spent the past three days at probably an hour a day removing the starter from my 2007 Kia Sedona minivan …. It’s in a pretty crazy hard to access location Belly cover Cover over the starter … maybe heat shield and two starter bolts. Most hard to access The video I watched removed a huge anti rotate engine mount thing but I removed the O2 sensor and it fell right out. I’ll bet installation will be relatively easy. Folks I bought a harbor freight saws all reciprocating saw, corded, probably in 2002. I figured I could do a few jobs with it Well it moved with me to the beach and is still going strong in 2023 …. It has been used hard on wood nails and metal I think it probably cost $15 on sale … well under $20 Recently I bought a Ryobi cordless one from my neighbor for $10. I have Ryobi small circular saw, drill and vacuum … all bought used and work well but the one battery I have is getting weak … should I consider after market ones? Folks, Well the 2002 e320 wagon with fries sucks today …. I drove it to the Kroger to get a dozen Valentine’s Day roses for the pretty red headed woman … well, no good deed goes unpunished. So, I drove the hovercraft about 8 miles to the Kroger on the next island, uneventfully. Last week, if you remember I replaced the key cases …. The originals were busted up. When I bought the car, previous owners said key #1 started the car and key #2 supposedly didn’t start but remote worked …. After new fob cases and batteries, both keys would start and work the locks. So after shopping the key would not turn … I got some errors, I assume on the cluster but each time it would be different including maybe an r5 or r 3 but maybe some segments of the lower right window in the cluster are out … by the way, I couldn’t operate the big cluster display … odometer etc today … it had always been dim but today nothing. I messed around with some stuff …. Lock unlock etc I also used a screwdriver and put the shift selector in neutral etc … will a car such as this start in neutral? I also located the battery under right rear seat … it’s a nice big one that could run a 123 diesel …. And I removed and replaced all the fuses … are there a bunch of blank spots in the fuse panel. It was dark, so that was all I could do … I would have disconnected the battery but I had no tools or Mercedes’ tool or first aid kit … just one screwdriver So I called the red headed woman and she brought me the other key which I suppose I should have had in the car. Bingo it started up fine and I drove home. Once home key number one still didn’t work and key two still works. Ideas?? One bit of back story … we had maybe five plus inches of rain and the car was parked in 2-3 inches of water, but no more. Water never touched the car except from rainfall. Everything was dry around the electronics … where is the main ECU ? Passenger kick panel or somewhere around there? So far I’ve only replaced mechanical things … key cases, hood release and windshield wiper … and am about to replace hood lift struts ….. maybe I should just sell it to Floyd!! I bought a polishing kit like you showed for about $12.50 on Amazon the Ali kit is bigger but I needed to polish now rather than later On the 2002 e320 hovercraft wagon, I replaced the hood release lever … $2.92 on Amazon … some return looked like factory ….. I put a 26 inch Kia windshield wiper on it and polished on the headlights … not happy with them Drove the e320 50 miles today …. It’s a land yacht, for sure …. I think I like it but I haven’t bought any high test gas yet for it … how crucial is the octane …. 91 ? …. Folks I’m still studying manuals on the 2002 e320 wagon. So I see I should use Mobil 1 but what weight ? I would expect to be operating in prob 20f to max of 110f More likely 45-95 f But real cold unlikely So keys work … I have got to polish the headlights they look near opaque … should I get new Chinese lenses? I bought a hood release lever for $2.93 off of Amazon, delivered … a return or something And I need to get a tag one it. Folks The 2002 e320 wagon car came with 2 infrared fob keys …. Previous owner said one remote works … that one had no batteries but the key doesn’t …. And the working key with unknown batteries did not operate the locks …. WELL … the housings had busted off buttons so I bought two housings for $13 on land of big women and 15 cr2025 for $4.50. With some difficulty I changed the circuit boards to the new housings and even cleaned the sensor infrared lights on the end … I just received the batteries and installed them …. Lo and behold BOTH KEYS START THE CAR & BOTH REMOTES UNLOCK IT!!! What a delight!! Now I need to get some chip keys cut for my 2003 sprinter and see I I can program them as clones of my only key for that bus. So much to do!L Stay warm and watch out for Chinese balloons out there! Floyd and folks I see I can get shells and keys on big women Floyd if I get another key with electronics can you clone or program it with some of your Mercedes’ electronics? I have a thing to make some sprinter keys … to clone them … Zed Bull it is called If you clone you don’t have to tell the Mercedes nanny but I haven’t found a locksmith to cut the keys … lately the ones I talk to act like asses. Hey, folks Ok I got my car … I was off on the price …. Had to pay the big bucks, $3k 180k miles … didn’t get white but silver is close Seems pretty good The red haired girlfriend sort of turned up her nose at it but after she drove it 30 min, she said, “this car is like a hovercraft “ … so smooth It came from Augusta, ga … I met the people in Sylvania, GA about 70 miles north of Savannah So there you go …. Some idiot replaced the passenger driver side window with the wrong shaped one from a sedan!! Came off of fakebook I’d still buy a nicer one …. > Folks I’ve been with State Farm for probably 35 years … they are ok … at almost 69 I don’t dare consider companies I think I want a cheap E320 wagon preferably close to the coast … Jacksonville FL to Charleston SC say 2002-2005 for about $2500 or so preferably in white …. I think I really wouldn’t buy a black one … might consider silver or red maybe even that blue, but white would really be my choice. I assume a 200k mile one still has 60k left in it if I do maintenance. [MBZ] Sprinter miles
Folks I have a 2006 sprinter with a 1000 lb capacity lift gate with 382,000 miles It’s from Pennsylvania and somewhat rusty …. It drives like a new car and everything works. Folks, I think the Prevost is lovely BUT one of my bus company owning friends says that the old Prevost have an environmentally nasty engine … maybe a two stroke diesel Dirty by diesel standards! [MBZ] Cold on tybee island
Folks It’s cold here …. I think the temp went down to about 25 last night …. We saw 17f about 20 years ago and I know it has not gone below freezing since before 2016! The 2018 heat pump is even trying with heat strip$ and the interior temp is about 55 No fun The water seems to be frozen. I have the house next door which is on the ground but has no heat right now … Pipes are all PEX over there ….I haven’t tried that water. My spaceship motor home is running its heat pump and I think it’s warmer out there. Haven’t tried the Motor home water My daughter who is married to a Ukrainian and lives in California said that it’s colder now on tybee than it is in Kiev! Folks, When I was up in McClellanville and cHarleston last week, I picked up a forest gump snapper mower for $50 in Goose Creek, SC It’s probably from the late 80s All four tires were flat but pumped up … one front has a tube and the other doesn’t but it seems to be holding So far, $17.50 second battery and some terminal repairs, starter gear, prob nylon, 2/$5 Amazonian and special tapered bolt pin for the handlebars not cheap at $5 on bay of e … And key 2/$5 Amazonia It has a solid looking 8 hp B … now it spins on the starter with no spark so I ordered an Amazonian coil for $12 I think I’m going to like it … I just bought the house next door, here on tybee island . It’s an old Florida house, I call it, from late 40s with unfortunately flat roof , concrete block on the ground . But it’s cool. Folks, I never mentioned but I drove the 2007 Kia Sedona to Nahant, MA a couple of weeks ago and picked up a press for a customer, a couple of weeks ago …. I made stops with friends in Richmond and hillsdale, NY then daytripped to Massachusetts …. I dragged the machine on a light trailer … 1200 lb press …..I delivered it to him via rollback truck to McClellanville SC, above Charleston. Fuel was expensive above I guess Virginia … for 2400 miles kia and isuzu fuel and tolls was $1000 …. I’m still getting toll bills in the mail … I got one from the mass turnpike for about 45 for car and 5 for trailer … I don’t know if it was one or both ways … should I have had ez pass? Anyway, the Kia has always had cold ac … now it’s fine at highway but at idle it runs maybe 30 second then shuts compressor shuts down for a minute or so …. You can see it on a freon pressure gauge. Any ideas? Pressure switch or climate control unit? Mercedes content my 82 300td is being resurrected ….
