If you have a Mac, you can get a freeware (or shareware, I'm not
sure cause I haven't used it in some time) application called Tube
TV that will grab FLV and other video files from web pages and
save them to your machine. Might even do it in QT, but it's been
too long for me to recall.

Know of anything that will grab a TV show from, say, NBC?
I've tried Downloadhelper and Sothink Web Video Downloader, but both of them
only want to grab the commercials, not the program.

Re: [MBZ] OT downloading off YouTube??

2009-02-19 Thread Rich Thomas
VideoLan VLC will play FLVs, but if you want to convert them to
something, try Super (search for super video converter erightsoft, the
web site is weird but the program is very good, and free). Sometimes it
has trouble putting flvs in other formats (might be a problem with the
flv file, not sure), but in general the pgm does what it is advertised
to do. The program is processor-intensive, best to set up a bunch of
files then let it run overnight or when you are not otherwise using the
computer. Super is also good to take vids and make them so they fit on
your media player.

There are a variety of Firefox add-ins that will grab videos and save
them in a file, I have a couple but there are probably others.

That's probably the best way.

I just wait for the video to cache, then search my HD for large files created
today. The one named something like HJUEYHGKK, in a directory named Cache, with
a timestamp two minutes ago, is the one I want, so I copy it to my video

I installed the add-on that Luther mentioned. What I've found so far is that it
does not use the browser cached file, it downloads it all over again. The good
news is that it should work on those gigantic files that Firefox refuses to

I don't know of a way to convert flash to anything useable but the place to

The activity of all tabs from Safari will show up in this menu.

get it installed

I downloaded/installed it with a mouse click or two, then it asked me
for permission to restart firefox.
I started by clicking Luther's link, then the green Add to Firefox
button. Then I got a warning box, I clicked the appropriate response,
and that was about it. Now I see that it says updated 1-20-09, so I
wonder if I installed the old version this morning.

Re: [MBZ] OT downloading off YouTube??

2009-01-20 Thread Rich Thomas
You need to go to the Firefox site in Firefox, then find the add-in and
download it there. It'll install directly, you might need to restart
Firefox -- I use Download Helper and Fast Video Download (2 different
ones, you can search for others).
