yeah, I drove a 47 shovey 1.5 ton truck with its 4th and 5th engines
early on. First in the fields long before a driver's license, then on
the road later. When I got the DL, Then I drove it a lot and the F500
with 14' refer box a few times, including when it blew out a spark
plug. The 65 impala (283) with unsynchro first gear was a rocket
compared to the old trucks.

I have been there too. My father was a fan of smaller engines and manual
transmissions. I learned to drive on a full size pickup with an inline 6
and 3 on the tree.
Passing on 2 lane highways meant planning ahead. Fortunately, the
highway that I drove most often was something I knew well so I knew
where the potential passing areas were.
I don't consider my 115 300D a real dog in city traffic and it will
cruise down the highway at a pretty good pace, but it was truly not
built for passing on 2 lane highways.

Re: [MBZ] The Finny for Poos is still available

2018-01-10 Thread Curley McLain via Mercedes
It is not a vergasser. It will go up and down hills just fine. It is a
diesel. It has torque. They are tons of fun to drive! No other car
has ever been as much fun to drive as a 110/111. They have similar
acceleration times to a 240D automatic. If they are tweaked to 65 HP,
then they accelerate a lot faster.

OK Don via Mercedes

I expect that it's geared such that it will be fine in town. Getting
on the
freeway and keeping speed up hills might be an issue, but then there
are no

hills in FL ???

Didn't the Luscombe have a habit of collapsing the landing gear if you landed a
little too hard, or am I thinking of another plane of that era.?

Because the Luscombe 8E is mildly aerobatic! Actually, you have "low and
slow" for fun scenic touring (Luscombe, Breezy), enjoying the evening,
etc., there is "high and fast" (Tailwind W10) for getting somewhere in a
hurry or racing, and there is the abililty to haul a load (Cessna 182).
Just like cars, no one aircraft fits all missions.
