One look convinces me Mercedes made the right decision NOT to go to production. It takes a otherwise useful and beautiful car and converts it into an useless monster. Suddenly, parking and entrance/egress become an issue. If someone parks to close, you are locked out till they move. Water leaks. I'm betting the bank on that. Same for air leak and noise. No thanks, I'll take the standard model. Grant... Florida is not as forgiving, and CA was adamant that they would provide nothing in the way of a title or registration without the back fees being settled. I wasn't keen about washing the title, but it made the most sense and was also quick and easy. I had plenty of documentation to show the chain of ownership without exception, which helped as well. Anybody have experience with the slk? Title is not an issue to me. Gump was never going to be perfect, so I am ok with a car with minor issues. An SLK with a roof that doesn't go down might not be a minor issue. The cars are very small, you'll sure notice that vs Gumpy. Very little storage space, most especially with the lid down, it's no SL. My wife knows somebody with one, she says they like it. I don't know if we could ever have one, my wife's been driving around with three saxophones in the trunk lately. The SL will do it, because of the rear 'seat', but just barely. They're the only 2-seaters I know of that have any semblance of storage. -- Jim ___ http://www.okiebenz.com For new and used parts go to www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com

Alabama is another state that does this. I used a title service when I bought my 1962 300SE because it would have cost me several thousand dollars to clear the title in California. The PO and their estate had not registered the car for some years, and California insists that you pay all the back registration fees and penalties to release the title.
