Re: [MBZ] I think I found the problem with the stove
There was not a short or any reason to trip the breaker. It appears the nuts were not tight creating resistance/heat. I guess after 10 years it finally burned thru. I have to replace the cord and the terminal block as it melted to. Had one of the wires hit the ground it would have shorted and tripped. Re: [MBZ] I think I am going to go do A Thing
The car is a dead turd unfortunately. Wouldn’t start, CPS issue from what I could gather once we put a charged battery in it. Instrument cluster not working and had a bunch of random CANBUS codes. Transmission apparently not working from what the guy said but scanner would not communicate with it, only some code related to instrument cluster. Maybe somehow the TCM needs the IC to work or something. I don’t know what that was about, it was kinda weird. I looked at a few fuses, nothing looked bad. Old rear axles in trunk, a new pair of front axles and one new lower (?) control arm in there as too. Pimp wheels had low profile tires that were mostly flat but had tread. I don’t know why all the axles would be shot. Clear coat was in bad shape on half the car but body was fine, interior was so-so but would probably clean up. Owner was a nice young guy, had some halfass paint shop. After I left he offered it for $900, I had told him at that point it was a $300 parts car. I told him to put on a new CPS and sent him a vid, at least get the thing running then see what someone might offer. I felt kinda bad for the guy, he had bought it from a friend earlier in the year then a coupla months later the trans appeared to have croaked. Didn’t sound like limp mode. I didn’t check the fluid, should have. If someone wanted a cheap project that would be the car, if nothing else part it out. --FT Sent from iFōn > On Sep 23, 2021, at 3:58 PM, Kevin Kraly via Mercedes > wrote: > > Go for it! > Kevin, Benz-less in Lexington, NC > > Sent from my iPhone > >> On Sep 23, 2021, at 12:46 PM, Floyd Thursby via Mercedes >> wrote: >> >> Guy says the trans is in limp mode. Some of those "small items" he mentions are actually a pretty big deal if you want to restore this car properly. Cracks in the dash, for example. One speed blower. I need to check the bottom hose and see if it is hot after it gets warmed up. No, flow is out from the top hose (from the head) into the top of the radiator, then out from bottom of radiator into the thermostat and then water pump. Might be the clutch and/or this radiator. I took the radiator that was in the back seat of that 80k mile e300 I picked up from copart that had the head removed. I may need to pull it back out and just swap in a new one and clutch. Re: [MBZ] I think I managed to blow the head gasket on my e300
Bad fan clutch for starters. If you had a cracked head or blown head gasket you would probably have oil in the reservoir by now. Easy to test the visco clutch -- when it's hot, have someone shut the engine off while you watch the fan. If it doesn't stop within a rotation or two, it's out of oil. ___ http://www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com

Re: [MBZ] I think I managed to blow the head gasket on my e300
No. In fact this morning it was under a slight vacuum as in the upper hose was somewhat squeezed in. Not completely flat. When I pulled the cap it expanded. Within about 20-30 minutes of shitting the car off just now hose is pliable again. It could have a fan clutch problem as well. Even at high temp clutch did not seem engaged and was easy to stop with my hand and a rag. That could be part of the issue. Maybe something is plugged up with the radiator I put in.
