Probably not too bad. The "added sugars" is what is not so good. When the label
says Ingredients: peanuts and that's it, you have a winner. It's an aquired
taste.

Brats are good, the buns not so much. I am a proponent of the ketogenic

I go to a local place in an industrial park. They have two bays in a
warehouse, floor jacks, wrenches, and mounting and balancing
machines. They only do tires. Their work order system is post-it

[MBZ] E320 (W210) cupholders

2021-04-04 Thread Jim Cathey via Mercedes
We're taking the boy back to college after a long weekend
at home. The rear cupholder tray was very stuck, looked like
residue. I managed to liberate it completely from the rear
armrest and gave it a bath in warm soapy water. Much better!

The fancy front popup cupholder had stopped staying down, so
out it came for the same treatment. I also mopped all the old crud
out of its well while I was at it. Pop, coffee, hot chocolate (?), and a
lot of corn chip chunks. It works right now, and the cover door works
somewhat better too.

Ready for the road!

It needs 3 new tires, I just took the Hakkapeliittas off before my wife
went to fetch him Thursday PM. Two are worn down, one has a small
bubble on the side. (Courtesy, I believe, of wretched low-profile 17"
wheels and a curb or pothole.) It drove great with the snows on, but
was/is a bit twitchy with these, which came on it. I wanted to minimize
the 80mph freeway trips (Montana) on studded snow tires, especially
as things are warming up, else I wouldn't have put the 'bad' tires back on.

Any good tire suggestions? My wife prefers buying tires at Les Schwab,
a regional chain with an excellent coverage area (for us) and very good
customer service, but they've pretty much stopped selling anything but
Korean tires anymore. They used to sell other brands, I bought my first
Hakkas there, but not anymore.

Re: [MBZ] Lifts

2021-04-04 Thread G Mann via Mercedes
With a lift available, work that you avoid because it's awful to lay on
your back to do, gets done easily...
Drive the vehicle on the lift... press the up button roll the tool box
under the car while you stand and do the work..
What took days takes minutes [ok... hours ;)) ]

The best part is at the end of the day... there will be some of you left
for life, because the job got so much easier.
Yes, it's a big and relatively expensive tool, but should last easily 20
years, and even then, would bring a sales price that returns much of your
investment.

I don't really geek out about tires, but I've been pretty happy with
Cooper lately. Got snows for the Volvo XC90 last fall, and just changed
them for a touring tire last week. They are a lot quieter than the Kuhmo
tires that came with that car when I bought it.

[MBZ] Broken spring...

2021-04-04 Thread Curt Raymond via Mercedes
The other day Angie and I jumped in my 2015 Jetta to go for a ride and as I
backed out of the driveway it made a wierd kind of bump noise. It seemed to
drive okay so we took it down the road but it started pulling to the left so we
took it back home. I finally got time to look at it today. I jacked it up and
everything felt and looked fine other than the front tires are trashed,
scrubbed really bad on the inside. I decided I'd rotate the tires and see if
that made a difference. When I took the driver's side wheel off I found:
https://photos.app.goo.gl/CsjdxGFkmSVujnfAA
The last link of the spring at the bottom of the strut was broken right off and
just laying in the cup. Looking up the strut the bearing at the top is trashed
and hanging. I think the bearing failure must have been what I heard, the
spring looks like its been broken for awhile.
Fortunately preloaded struts are only $100. I bought both, if one is bad the
other can't be great, and it clearly needs and alignment anyway. I bought from
ID Parts so I expect them to be here Tuesday and the shipping was only $5, its
great to have a retailer light that right in the state.
Apparently the passenger side is a bugger to get out. It looks like I did
struts on my '98 Jetta back in 2017. I don't remember that being a particularly
bad job, I do remember one of those being particularly bad but the car had
250,000 miles...

Re: [MBZ] OT: Pressurized hydraulic filter

2021-04-04 Thread Curt Raymond via Mercedes
I figured the transport (about 450 miles) is going to be in the neighborhood
of $2,000. A Case 580 or equivalent (about a 75hp machine) from the mid to late
'80s runs $15,000-20,000. The pressurized Deere is $3,500...
I'd rather find a Case 380 or equivalent (50hp machine) in that same age range
but there just aren't any anywhere near me, or at least none for sale. Anybody
with a machine that size is holding it.
The Deere 400 is 59hp, its the industrial version of a 2020 farm tractor. I
*think* that means that engine parts should be pretty available...

than what you spend trying to sort out the hydraulic issues on the older,
smaller machine. [ blockage of some sort downstream from the hydraulic
filter, would be my guess, like an internal hose failure, or a valve
failure.. Just keep replacing parts till you happen to get the one that
fixes the problem, fix.

The first seller just signed the title and didn’t date it. Thanks for that

I replaced a broken strut on the Focus a few months ago. Easy enough job
on that car but you'll want a spring clamp to secure the spring if the
strut is not intact. I found out when the whole strut flew apart when I
got the bottom end free. Fortunately it was not under a lot of tension,
but enough that it was surprising (not in a good way).

[MBZ] OT: Pressurized hydraulic filter

2021-04-04 Thread Curt Raymond via Mercedes
So you guys might remember I've been looking for a backhoe. Locally I've found
an old John Deere 400, its late '60s, not sure exactly yet.Selling cheap
because it "Pressurizes the hydraulic filter" although I'm not yet sure what
that means.
Google just wants to sell me hydraulic filters when I try to search on that
term. Anybody BTDT, know anything about this sort of thing?
The main reason I'm looking at the machine is that its smaller, just over
10,000 pounds which makes moving it a whole lot easier. Starting with the
mid-'70s stuff all the machines I see run 14,000+ pounds which becomes a big
deal since I want it at camp.
I know, I know, buy it up there, the thing is there are 4 times as many
machines for sale down here. I dunno if you need to know a guy up there to find
anything but none of my internet searches bear much fruit.

2021-04-04 Thread Dan Penoff via Mercedes
In Florida, an “open title” is a title held by the seller in the previous
owner’s name. In other words, I buy a car from you but I never sign the title
and register the car. Theoretically, it’s illegal, as most states (like
Florida) require you to title and register a car within 30 days of purchase.
They won’t come after you, as they have no idea you’ve done it since there’s no
record of the sale, but when/if you go to title/register the car if your name
would come up as the buyer you would get dinged.

The 99 E320 4Matic had an open title. The guy I bought it from had bought it
several months before from the original owner. He never registered it or
insured it (I assume) as he hadn’t been driving it. When I titled it the DMV
“saw” that it was a purchase from the original owner to me. The flipper I
bought it from never played into the transaction. As far as the state knows I
bought it from the first owner and was titling it immediately following the
purchase.

Re: [MBZ] OT: Pressurized hydraulic filter

2021-04-04 Thread G Mann via Mercedes
Buy one of the later model 14,000 machines [much to find parts for and
more likely built to improved standard]. Then, pay an equipment mover to
deliver the machine to your camp [one time moving cost] which could be less
than what you spend trying to sort out the hydraulic issues on the older,
smaller machine. [ blockage of some sort downstream from the hydraulic
filter, would be my guess, like an internal hose failure, or a valve
failure.. Just keep replacing parts till you happen to get the one that
fixes the problem, fix.
