[meteorite-list] New Ultra Rare Martian Subgroup

2004-01-22 Thread Adam Hupe
Dear List Members,

Congratulations to anybody who has any NWA 1195 or NWA 2046 in their
collections. Additional study has proven these two Martian meteorites to be
even more impressive than originally stated. The very strange elongated
shape of NWA 1195 should have given the first clue that there was more to
this stone than what was first observed.

The reason NWA 1195 survived reentry through the atmosphere with such an
aerodynamically unstable elongated shape is that the crystals are
preferentially aligned. Think of it as the grains of wood in a baseball
bat. If a baseball bat were cut against the grain it would break every time
a ball was hit. Since baseball bats are cut with the grain they are much
stronger.

Since most meteorites do not have grain the natural thing to do is it cut
them perpendicular to the longest dimension as was done with NWA 1195.
While the study of the new and equally impressive Martian meteorite NWA 2046
was being conducted orthopyroxe was discovered in aligned phenocrysts.
Since the two stones are somewhat similar but definitely not paired more
study was conducted on NWA 1195 and these same oriented grains were found.
They were probably missed during initial study because they were cut
perpendicular to their length providing a tiny surface area to observe. If
NWA 1195 were sliced 90 degrees to the original cut these elongated crystals
would have been discovered immediately as in NWA 2046.

What all this means is that a new subgroup now exists called
Olivine-Orthopyroxene-Phyric Shergottite. These two meteorites represent
the most primitive Martian lava yet discovered. With only two unpaired
members and a combined weight of only 378 grams this is the rarest Martian
subgroup in existence.

Before we forget, we would like to congratulate the other team who brought
back NWA2046, the 30th Martian meteorite discovered.

Wishing everybody the best,

Adam and Greg Hupe

of an obvious hotspot source or track, minor
crustal uplift associated with emplacement,
minor total subsidence compared with normal
oceanic crust or other oceanic plateaus and
submarine ridges, high degrees of melting
at shallow, upper mantle depths, low water
contents of basalts, enrichment of platinum

Hello Ken and list, Ken wrote;

Yes, they do seem a bit small, but from what I understand they started out
huge but never lost their cosmic velocity and by the time ablation was
through with them, all that was left was these two meteorites at a few grams
a piece. Even at just a few grams, with their hypersonic velocities still
intact these two little meteorites caused the craters. Hard to believe! All
the other meteorites with the name Canyon Diablo or Odessa are fakes, these
ARE THE TWO responsible! ; )

Dear Matt, Mike, List;
I have visited with my banker in the past concerning an escrow to sell a
bunch of jade over seas and at Tucson. Escrow Accounts are quite easy to
set up, bank holds the money until the item is either inspected and
purchased, or the item is returned and the seller receives his specimen
back. Seemingly a really good way to go if spending a bunch of
money...or buy from some one that Mike or the other dealers deal
with in the meteorite world that is recommended.
Best,

[meteorite-list] Fireball Seen From Germany, Belgium

Great balls of fire, its a meteorite!
expatica.com (Holland)
22 January 2004

AMSTERDAM - A large number of star gazers claim to have seen a large fireball shoot
through cloud cover on Wednesday night in what experts believe was a meteorite falling
to
earth.

The Dutch Meteor Society (DMS) said the fireball probably took place somewhere above
the Belgian-German border in Wallonia. It was seen in Limburg, eastern Belgium and
Germany, Dutch news agency ANP reported.

The Leiden-based DMS also said the fireball was most probably due to a meteorite and
ruled out the possibility that it was a broken fragment of a satellite or a rocket. A
society spokesman based the claim on information supplied by US aerospace agency Nasa.

But a lack of hard and fast facts regarding the fireball means it is difficult to
determine if fragments fell to earth. It is assumed that the meteorite burned up
in the earth's atmosphere before hitting the ground.

Dozens of sightings were lodged with star watch association Exploirion, based in the
southern Dutch city of Heerlen, Besides sightings in Limburg, Belgium, Germany and
even residents of the northern Dutch city of Groningen said they saw the spectacle.

Meteorites usually burn up in the earth's atmosphere and Wednesday night's fireball was
created about 60 to 100km above the earth's surface. German news agency DPA said the
rock probably did not hit the earth's surface.

A researcher with the European Space Agency (ESA) in Darmstadt, Germany, said the
meteorite would have been about 10cm to 50cm in size.

[meteorite-list] 1.5 Billion-Year-Old Crater Found In Finland

2004-01-22 Thread Ron Baalke

http://www.hindustantimes.com/news/181_543619,00050003.htm

1.5 billion-year-old meteorite crater found in Finland
Agence France-Presse
Helsinki, Finland
January 22, 2004

A crater from a meteorite that collided with earth some 1.5 billion years
ago has been discovered in Finland by two amateur geologists, Finnish
scientists said on Thursday.

The discovery is nine kilometres in diameter, but the original crater
must have been much larger, because only the floor is left, since the
rest of the crater bowl has eroded away, said Lauri Pesonen, a professor
of geophysics at Helsinki University who verified the find.

According to calculations, the crater must have been between 20 and 25
kilometres wide following the impact, he added.

Two local amateur scientists, Satu Hietala and Jarmo Moilanen, came across
the crater last fall when they found shatter cones in stones in the area.

Shatter cones, which are typical feature found in stones in meteorite
craters, are formed in the rock when the energy from the impact passes
through it.

Since the surrounding rock formation is about 1.8 billion years old,
Pesonen said the meteorite was likely to have collided with the earth
later than that, probably around 1.5 billion years ago.

The crater, partly covered by a lake, is located some 175 kilometres
north of Helsinki.

So far, 11 meteorite impacts have been found in Finland, and some 180
worldwide, Pesonen said.

Large crater caused by meteorite found in Finland
Helsingin Sanomat (Finland)
January 22, 2004

A large crater caused by a meteorite has been found north of the community
of Mänttä. The discovery of the crater - about ten kilometres in
diameter - was reported on Wednesday in the latest issue of the Finnish
astronomy journal Tähdet ja avaruus (Stars and Space), which is
published by the astronomical society Ursa. The magazine has a reputation
for meticulous accuracy.

The crater is located just north of Mänttää in the Keurusselkä
area, and it could be as much as a billion years old. It is the first
landmark of its kind in Finland to be found by amateurs.

The collision fragments found in the area have been confirmed as remnants
of a meteorite. Experts confirming the discovery have included a geologist
and geophysicist from the University of Helsinki.

Teemu Öhman of the University of Oulu says that the find is the eleventh
crater caused by a meteorite to be discovered in Finland, and it could be
the largest.

The crater was originally much larger than it is now, with fairly high edges.
These have been worn down by intervening ice ages. Now only the bottom of
the crater is left, in addition to cone-shaped pieces of rock from the impact.

The cone-shaped rocks can be found in the Keurusselkä area, with the narrow
end pointing toward the centre of the impact.

On a global scale the newly-discovered Keurusselkä crater is not among the
largest. For instance, a meteorite which hit the Yucatan peninsula, and which
is believed to have caused the mass extinction of the dinosaurs about 65 million
years ago, left behind a crater with a diameter of about 180 kilometres.

If it is a private individual who contacted you with a
deal thats to good to be true I would be wary. If it
is one of the 3 dealers farmer mentioned earlier you
can feel safe as I have spent thousands of dollars
with them (I even stay at Rodrigos house when in Chile
- really nice guy). I have herd a dozen or more
stories from people who sent money to Morocco to buy
some NWAs really cheap (Always under 10 cents a gram)
and whom they never herd from again after sending the
money and nobody in Morocco ever herd of them either
(A couple of the people who got scammed were customers
of mine and I tried to help them out by doing a little
research so I am familiar with those scams). Maybe you
can check phone listings or something to see if they
real people - although that is not as easy to do as it
is in North America and could well not be possible.
Try getting their phone number and calling them. You
should be able to make a 10 minute phone call to
anywhere in south america using a phone card for $5 or
less. Might be worth it.
There are some people in Africa scamming offering Gao
meteorites also.
I am not familiar with any major scams involving
meteorites in South America so I cant give you any
specific warnings of what to look for in this regard.
If they are the ones who contacted you first the you
can try to get them to send you the rocks before
receiving payment. After all, they know who you are
and should have more trust of you.
Just an idea
Hope this helps.
Cheers
DEAN

Great balls of fire, its a meteorite!
 expatica.com (Holland)
 22 January 2004

AMSTERDAM - A large number of star gazers claim to have seen a large
fireball shoot
through cloud cover on Wednesday night in what experts believe was a
meteorite falling to
 earth.

The Dutch Meteor Society (DMS) said the fireball probably took place
somewhere above
the Belgian-German border in Wallonia. It was seen in Limburg, eastern
Belgium and
Germany, Dutch news agency ANP reported.

The Leiden-based DMS also said the fireball was most probably due to a
meteorite and
ruled out the possibility that it was a broken fragment of a satellite

 or
a rocket. A
society spokesman based the claim on information supplied by US
 aerospace
agency Nasa.

But a lack of hard and fast facts regarding the fireball means it is
difficult to
determine if fragments fell to earth. It is assumed that the meteorite
burned up
in the earth's atmosphere before hitting the ground.

Dozens of sightings were lodged with star watch association
 Exploirion,
based in the
southern Dutch city of Heerlen, Besides sightings in Limburg, Belgium,
Germany and
even residents of the northern Dutch city of Groningen said they saw
 the
spectacle.

Meteorites usually burn up in the earth's atmosphere and Wednesday
 night's
fireball was
created about 60 to 100km above the earth's surface. German news
 agency
DPA said the
rock probably did not hit the earth's surface.

A researcher with the European Space Agency (ESA) in Darmstadt,
 Germany,
said the
meteorite would have been about 10cm to 50cm in size.

[meteorite-list] Destination: Meridiani Planum

2004-01-22 Thread Ron Baalke

http://science.nasa.gov/headlines/y2004/22jan_meridianiplanum.htm

Destination: Meridiani Planum
NASA Science News
January 22, 2004

On January 24, 2004, NASA's Mars rover Opportunity is scheduled to land
on a Martian plain in search of evidence for water.

January 22, 2004: On January 24, at about 9:05 p.m. Pacific Standard Time,
NASA's second rover is scheduled to arrive on Mars. Opportunity will land
near the equator, on a plain known as Meridiani Planum. It'll be halfway
around the planet from Gusev Crater, where its twin, Spirit, is already
feeding eager scientists as much data as it can transmit.

Meridiani Planum interests scientists because it contains an
ancient layer of hematite, an iron oxide that, on Earth, almost
always forms in an environment containing liquid water. The
site appears dry now. So how did the hematite get there?
Was there once water in the area? If so, where did it go?

There are five or six hypotheses to explain the hematite on
Mars, but none of them are a slam-dunk, says NASA's
Mars Landing Site Science Coordinator John Grant. We have
to go there to find out which is correct.

It's possible, for example, that the hematite was produced directly
from iron-rich lavas, a process that would not require liquid water. But
if water was involved--and that's considered most probable--then,
most likely, the hematite either formed from the iron-rich waters of
an ancient lake, or it formed when Martian groundwater percolated
though layers of volcanic ash.

Opportunity's suite of spectrometers, cameras, microscopes, and sampling
tools should allow scientists to figure out where the hematite came from.
For instance, if a mineral called goethite is found among the hematite,
that would mean that the hematite formed in watery conditions. On the
other hand, if magnetite is found and goethite is not, a watery past is
unlikely.

Just being able to look at the way the hematite is distributed will
provide some answers. If the hematite occurs as a thin layer within a
pile of layers, then it's likely to have formed in a long-ago lake, says
Grant. If, on the other hand, it occurs in more discrete veins, deposited
between cracks in rocks, then it's much more likely to have been
associated with groundwater.

If you look in the Earth, he says, in places where the groundwater
percolates through the subsurface, you see evidence for life all over
the place. This mission, Grant emphasizes, is not seeking evidence of
Martian life. It's looking for environments that were favorable for life,
and in which evidence of life may have been preserved.

Knowing how the hematite formed will help determine if Meridiani Planum
is that kind of environment.

Meridiani Planum is unique on Mars because there's so much exposed hematite
there, according to data gathered by NASA's Mars Global Surveyor spacecraft.
Localized deposits also exist in two other sites: the deep canyon Valles
Marinaris and a place called called Aram Chaos, notes Grant, but neither
are accessible based on the current landing system. Meridiani Planum has
more hematite and it's a safer place to land.

Meridiani Planum is also attractive because the site appears to be eroding,
with once-buried craters that are now half-revealed. Opportunity might be
able to inspect layers of ground that would otherwise be hidden, affording
a glimpse into the area's distant past.

There's so much we don't know about Mars, says Grant. But I really think
we're going to come out of this mission with a better understanding of what
Mars has been like over time, and where we might go for our next step.

Visit http://marsrovers.jpl.nasa.gov for the latest information about Spirit
and Opportunity.

[meteorite-list] UK Fall statistics..

2004-01-22 Thread mark ford
Hi,

Someone said to me a while ago, that the UK (i.e Great Britain and
Ireland) is 'overdue' for a meteorite fall.

Whilst I realize it is in theory a reasonably random event, for a bit
of fun I decided to have a look at the figures, Here is what I found:

There have been 19 confirmed falls in the UK since 1623. I worked out
the number of years between each fall and plotted them onto a graph, To
my surprise it appears to follow a sinusoidal pattern ? ...

See : http://www.freewebs.com/fordmeteorites/UKFALLS.jpg

The average time between falls is 11.8 Years. (It must be coincidence
but 11.8 years is one of the solar cycles! And I think something to do
with Jupiter perihelion?)

So it indeed appears we (UK) are 'over due' for a fall, statistically
anyway, especially since it was 22 years between the last two and 17
years since the last one and they should average 11.8 years.

my God ,I must be bored :)

'Serious Anomaly' Silences Mars Spirit Rover
By Leonard David
space.com
22 January 2004

PASADENA, Calif. -- Mars Rover officials at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory
announced that a serious anomaly occured onboard the robot Spirit Wednesday.

Peter Theisinger, Mars Exploration Rover project manager, began Thursday's
press conference by telling reporters that they had not received contact
from Spirit, either through relays from the Mars Global Surveyor or the Mars
Odyssey spacecraft now orbiting the red planet.

German-built Alpha-Particle-X-Ray Spectrometer (APXS) is being used to
determine the elemental chemistry of rocks and soils on Mars. The APXS
performs elemental analyses of martian surface materials by directly
touching a rock or patch of soil. Analyzing the elemental make-up of
martian surface materials will provide scientists with information about
crustal formation, weathering processes, and water activity on the red
planet.

However, Jennifer Trosper, mission manager of Surface Operations,
interrupted the press briefing to announch that a signal had been recieved
from the rover via its direct link to Earth. That said, no direct data had
yet to be received from the robotic geologist.

Theisinger explained that the situation remains serious and that no one
single fault ... that we can conceive of can explain this anamoly.

A communique' released late afternoon Wednesday from JPL indicated an
unresolved issue with the status of the Spirit Mars rover.

According to the statement, ground controllers were able to send commands
to the Mars Exploration Rover Spirit early Wednesday and received a simple
signal acknowledging that the rover heard them.

However, ground controllers here did not receive expected scientific and
engineering data from Spirit during scheduled communication passes during
the rest of that martian day.

There he was present at and he photographed the passage of the

There are already track and brightness data?

Hello Martin,

There's a preliminary trajectory from visual sightings in Belgium and the
Netherlands. Phillipe Mollet of the Belgian VVS has been working on that.
Fireball started over Belgium and ended over Germany.

Or how could the ESA-man predict, that the meteorite will have a size of
 10 - 50cm?

 Martin A.

Just guesswork I think. There's little definit data to go by at the moment.

By the way, in commenting on these kind of news agency reports, be aware
that press agencies not always correctly quote people, and sometimes condens
two separate bits of correct info into one wrong statement and things
frequently get mixed up or confused (e.g. meteor/meteorite). For example,
the DMS spokesman quoted is me, but I spoke to them about this being
definitely a meteor, not being definitely a meteorite (as we simply do not
know whether something survived or not); and I warned them that not each
bright fireball automatically means it dropped a meteorite. They do quote me
correctly in that we can rule out a satellite decay, this being based on
checking data from the NASA Orbital Information Group.

I am sorry if I inadvertently left some out as I could list another 20
names here. If it is an unknown, and they are not an IMCA member, that
might be a thought to ponder, that is what we set it up for. If the deal
can be transferred on ebay, and you can use the sellers feed back as a
tool that may be wise as well.
Buying blindly to save a buck is silly, and a bit greedy. Just remember
the circus at Park Forest about a year ago!
My favorite old axiom, junk in junk out could apply here. Those that
try to get something for nothing sometimes get more wisdom instead of
the value of the product.
Again, with so many very reputable dealers gathered here, at the shows,
on ebay, on the IMCA web page, why play around with your money to
relative unknowns? Most dealers can get most meteorites from most
anywhere, and be for the most part, very competitive at pricing.
Very Best and thanks to our great dealers who work hard to supply us
with good deals and a wide selection!

Try getting their phone number and calling them. You
should be able to make a 10 minute phone call to
anywhere in south america using a phone card for $5 or

There are some people in Africa scamming offering Gao
meteorites also.
I am not familiar with any major scams involving
meteorites in South America so I cant give you any
specific warnings of what to look for in this regard.
If they are the ones who contacted you first the you
can try to get them to send you the rocks before
receiving payment. After all, they know who you are

Just an idea
Hope this helps.

Dave,

Leighlinbridge is in southern Ireland not classed as in the UK..

Of course none of these statistics take into account recoverability over
the years and the fact that we are an irregular shaped island surrounded
by sea, the country is higher than it is wide. Also there are more
potential witnesses now than in the 17th Century, and of course many
more never get seen! But about 12 years is a good working assumption

But I would be interested to know how many other countries have a
theoretical fall rate of 11.8 years?

What I should do is work out the average per square area..

But Like I said I was bored!

Cheers!

MADRID.- The pertinent, Natural Museum of Sciences al
CSIC, has a security of the 99% that the siderolito
(mixture of metal and sílice) extraterrestrial found
by a journalist in the Mounts of Palencia is the first
sample related to the meteor sighted the past 4 of
January.

The responsible one for the analysis, Javier Garcia
Guinea, professor of investigation of mineralogía of
the Museum, explained that, after the exam, carried
out Monday in the afternoon, has the security al 99%
that is a siderolito extraterrestrial of very recent
fall and related to the bólido that crossed the
peninsula at the beginning of this month.

The author of the finding, according to Garci'a
Guinea, has been journalist Abel Tarilonte, who the 4
of January was of vacations in the north of the
province of Palencia.
There he was present at and he photographed the
passage of the meteor and after crossing several towns
of Montes of Palencia pasts 9 and 10 of January in
search of samples, he located two fragments, of 42.03
grams and 21.76 grams, on a rural way of recent
compaction where they emphasized by his dark crust
of iron oxidation.

[meteorite-list] Mars Exploration Rover Mission Status - January 22, 2004

NEWS RELEASE: 2004-028 January 22, 2004

Mars Exploration Rover Mission Status

Flight-team engineers for NASA's Mars Exploration Rover Mission were
encouraged this morning when Spirit sent a simple radio signal
acknowledging that the rover had received a transmission from Earth.

However, the team is still trying to diagnose the cause of earlier
communications difficulties that have prevented any data being
returned from Spirit since early Wednesday.

We have a very serious situation, said Pete Theisinger of NASA's Jet
Propulsion Laboratory, project manager for Spirit and its twin,
Opportunity.

Spirit did send a radio signal via NASA's Mars Global Surveyor orbiter
Wednesday evening, but the transmission did not carry any data. Spirit
did not make radio contact with NASA's Mars Odyssey during a scheduled
session two hours later or during another one Thursday morning. It
also did not respond to the first two attempts Thursday to elicit an
acknowledgment signal with direct communications between Earth and the
rover, and it did not send a signal at a time pre-set for doing so
when its computer recognizes certain communication problems. The
successful attempt to get a response signal came shortly before 9 a.m.
Pacific Standard Time.

No single explanation considered so far fits all of the events
observed, Theisinger said. When the team tried to replicate the
situation in its testing facility at JPL, the testbed rover did not
have any trouble communicating. Two of the possibilities under
consideration are a corruption of flight software or corruption of
computer memory, either of which could leave Spirit's power supply
healthy and allow adequate time for recovering control of the rover.

Engineers will continue efforts to understand the situation in
preparation for scheduled communication relay sessions using Mars
Global Surveyor at 7:10 p.m. PST and Mars Odyssey at 10:35 PST.
Efforts to resume direct communications between Spirit and antennas of
NASA's Deep Space Network will resume after the rover's expected
wake-up at about 3 a.m. PST Friday.

Meanwhile, mission leaders decided to skip an optional trajectory
correction maneuver today for Opportunity, the other Mars Exploration
Rover. Opportunity is on course to land halfway around Mars from
Spirit, in a region called Meridiani Planum, on Jan. 25 (Universal
Time and EST; Jan. 24 at 9:05 p.m. PST).

JPL, a division of the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena,
manages the Mars Exploration Rover project for NASA's Office of Space
Science, Washington, D.C. Additional information about the project
is available from JPL at

http://marsrovers.jpl.nasa.gov

and from Cornell University, Ithaca, N.Y., at

Speaking of Allende, does anyone know how recently people have found

[meteorite-list] Elongated Orthopyroxene Crystal Image

2004-01-22 Thread Adam Hupe
Dear List Members,

Six List members requested an image of the oriented grains I was speaking of
on my last post entitled New Ultra Rare Martian Subclass. I do not have
any images of the oriented orthopyroxene crystals in NWA1195 but Jim Strope
gave me permission to post a link to an image he has on his web site. If
you look at this image of NWA 2046 you will see a crystal along the top
labeled opx core. This image was created using a false color background
on the University of Washington Microprobe.

Interestingly enough a List member, Norbert Classen, independently observed
these crystals in NWA 2046 and reported them to scientists. Good Job,
Norbert, very observant! Anyway here is the link:

Hello Art and list Art wondered: "Speaking of Allende, does anyone know how recently people have foundspecimens of this meteorite in the strewn field? Can any of thisclassification of stone have lasted in the weather?" It is my understanding they are still hunting and finding stones. While at the Denver show last year several Hispanics came into Blaine Reed's room with a bag full of Allende3 kilos if I remember right. All were recent finds and all were weathered. The price they were wanting was more then anyof us were willing to pay and they left with the stones. A couple list members have been thinking about making a hunting trip, if you are interested I will let you know the names. See you in Tucson. Mark Bostick www.meteoritearticles.com

There is a history of trouble for gringos in the Allende strewnfieldarea, if I remember correctly. Wasn't there some story about a meteorite-hunter who was attacked and/or disappeared, something like that? Not sure if it's an urban legend or if based in fact.

Full story

According to a spokesman from NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory
the Mars rover, which reached the surface successfully on 3rd January,
has not transmitted useful data for the last 12 hours.

As soon as they heard of the difficulty with Spirit the Beagle 2 team

project, expressing every sympathy with their predicament, and hoping
they would soon be back in communication.

Re: [meteorite-list] more on Allende

2004-01-22 Thread Michael Farmer
Art and all, I have bought virtually all of the Allende from the strewnfield
for the last 5 years. 4 and 5 years ago I was getting about 10 kilos per
year. Last year I got about 600 grams! The people I contract with take 20
to 30 people out hunting every day during the summertime before the rains,
and that is all they found. The Allende strewnfield undoubtedly has alot
left to be found, but I think you would have to spend alot of time, and the
people there have been doing it for over 30 years.
Also Allende is not at all fragile, it is a very tough meteorite, and many
of the pieces found look like they fell yesterday.

Hello Gregory and List,

I heard the same thing about a dealer that will remain nameless who went
down there and paid a dollar a gram to the farmers who were finding them.
Since the farmers were only being paid a fraction of this amount by lets just
say "local people in charge" the farmers refused to sell them at the lower rate
after this. The local people in charge were selling them for a dollar a
gram to dealers before the gringobarged in there and over paid unknowingly
doubling the wholesale price for everybody else. Now you cannot
getAllendefor less than $2.00 a gram wholesale and at that price you
have to buy several kilos. If anybody decides to go down there be careful
because of the bad situation left behind by an unknowing US dealer.

All the best

too. So I think it is good we cleared the air.
I should have thought that you would not give misleading info, and this re-asurance
I have got now.

Well, you pulled my leg, and I better stop limping and whinging now.
Shake hands again? :-[

No, this is was not saidon the auction, this was
only told to the list as a comical response to Ken
O'Neill's  comical question;

"Are you sure they caused the craters
? they seem a bit small to me ;-)"

I donot think that, and I do not expect anyone with
a brain to think it either! It was clearly a joke! Sorry I offended you!
I would never make such a claim on ebay, just to the list who I know, knows
better! If anyone else thought I was serious, NO I WAS JOKING WITH THE
LIST! Just so you all know, ; ) at the end of a sentence means your kidding
just like at the end of kens and my emails.

  Thanks, Tom

Tom,

sorry, Mate, I reckon you are going a bit toofar, saying:

All the other meteorites with the name Canyon
Diablo or Odessa are fakes, ...
Do you really believewhat you are stating? And this as IMCA
member? Is that supposed tobe an authenticity statement?

>From my point of view this isnot fun, it is simply false!

Yes,they do seem a bit small, but from what I understand they started
out
huge but never lost their cosmic velocity and by the time ablation was

through with them, all that was left was these two meteorites at a few
 grams
a piece. Even at just a few grams, with theirhypersonic velocities
still
intact these two little meteorites causedthe craters. Hard to believe!
All
the other meteorites with the nameCanyon Diablo or Odessa are fakes,
these
ARE THE TWO responsible! ; )

Hello List, if one of you computer experts are bored and looking
for
something to do, would you help me? I placed ameteorite auction
on ebay
today and my daughter was kind enoughto write me some HTML codes
so it
would look better. She put twoaddresses so we could add pics
to the
description area but theydid not show up. She did the same thing
for my
IMCA logo and itworked. She looked at the "view source" page
and the code
wasthere, but not working. She's young and never did an ebay
auction
before so be kind! : ) You can see the auction at this link;

 http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItemitem=2219851859

Also, why you are there, you might as well bid.Remember, why
bid once
when
you can bid twice and pay twiceas much! : )

 Thanks, Tom

Norbert, Hand shake gladly accepted! It was a pretty
good story though! : ) (smile) I am glad to see you standing up for what was
right evenif it was a misunderstanding! Your email did get me
thinking about misunderstandings and lead me to make that perfectly clear on the
auction as well. Thank you! I must thank Ken as well, thanks Ken!
