Check the archives of tech@ (and misc@ for that matter). The AR5424
issue has been known and some have been working on a driver. However,
the discussion has weakened recently :-(

AR5424 on OpenBSD

2010-12-19 Thread Hugo Osvaldo Barrera
I've an Atheros AR5424, which OpenBSD seems to detect correctly, but
does not really work.
The ath driver is used, and the man pages don't list this model as being
supported, but I though I might ask if there was some fix/etc.

# ifconfig ath0 chan
ath0: flags=8822 mtu 1500
lladdr 00:1f:e2:a2:c5:4f
priority: 4
groups: wlan
media: IEEE802.11 autoselect
status: no network
ieee80211: nwid ""
chan freq properties
# ifconfig ath0 scan
ath0: flags=8822 mtu 1500
lladdr 00:1f:e2:a2:c5:4f
priority: 4
groups: wlan
media: IEEE802.11 autoselect
status: no network
ieee80211: nwid ""
ath0: unable to reset hardware; hal status 4294934528
#

In reference to the above blue error, the man pages say it should not
happen. Again, the card is not listed as supported either.

I don't mind providing more feedback/testing patches/etc.
Cheers, and thanks.

It seems that FreeBSD now has support for it :
http://marc.info/?l=freebsd-stable&m=123687550928068&w=2

AH5424 does not exist, so I assume it's a typo that should be read
AR5424.

ath0 on the Acer Aspire One is known to not work (unless something
happened when I wasn't looking).

it's a new variant on an undocumented chip.

I've had the same problem with my Thinkpad T400 since 4.3 (and continue to
do so with -current). I submit reminders about the issue whenever I submit a
dmesg and as far as I know some versions of that chip are supported and
other versions are being worked on. I realize this comment isn't the most
informative, but since you brought it up, I thought I'd let you know there
are others in a similar situation.

There has been talk of Atheros opening up to the linux community and I've
seen chatter on freeBSD lists (specifically about our chipset).

Acer Aspire One freeze with Atheros AR5424 on OpenBSD 4.5

2009-03-16 Thread Alvaro Mantilla Gimenez
Hello,

I send this messages to b...@openbsd.org a few days ago. I don't know if
this is the all the information the developers need. Anyway I would like to
create this thread just for search purposes...may be there is more people
with the same problem. I found a previous thread about this but it seems
nobody talk about the channel problem.

Regards,
