Re: Illegus - Another silly question
Hi Folks... maybe I'm boring you, but I have another silly question. For my MSX1 I had a game called Illegus. It is a ROM-Game made by ASCII in 1984 oder 1985 and is a SCREEN3-game, which made it so special. It was the first "3D"-labyrinth gmae for me. You have to find a way out of the labyrinth. Does anybody know something about this game and where I can find it? Ah, I have the original cartridge of it, but no copied version... Great game indeed... Real 3D! Ah, in your next mail I see that you found it... So never mind! ;-) (At least I could show-off that I have the cart! ;-) Grtjs, Manuel ((m)ICQ UIN 41947405) PS: MSX 4 EVER! (Questions? Thats the reason why I was looking fot it... By the way: Was it really the only SCREEN3-Game or are there other games? Philips monitor cable (please help!)
Hi everybody, It seems the cable than links an MSX computer (DIN with 8 pins) to a Philips monitor (green screen, audio and video jacks) is not on sale in any electronic store in my city. I have checked the connector diagram at www.faq.msxnet.org and have some doubts. I'm not an electronics "guru". I understand the diagram shows the rear view where cables must be soldered. Monitor connector Philips pin 7 NC pin 6 +12V pin 3 AUDIO pin 8 NC pin 1 +5V pin 5 CVBS (color video PAL) pin 4 Ys (monochrome) pin 2 gnd ('luminance') My guess is I should use these pins: pin #3 for the audio pin #4 because it's a green monochrome monitor pin #2 GND Now, my doubt is should I use the +12V pin? Or the +5V pin? Should I use the GND pin? What should I solder the GND pin with? What should I solder the +12V or +5V pin with? Should I use any other pin? Please, any help is welcome! I want my monitor back into life :) Thanks in advance, Manuel __ Do You Yahoo!? Talk to your friends online with Yahoo! Messenger. http://im.yahoo.com MSX Mailinglist. And by the way, also for ZIP and LHA if you have any. 8-) Maybe there don't even exist such a thing as 'specs' for the PMA format, only programs that use the method - who knows? But check out UNPMA.COM, on my page: http://huizen.dds.nl/~alwinh/msx/software MSX Tech Doc page software section It contains full (Z80 assembly) sources of a fast PMA extractor (comments in the source are in Dutch though). It doesn't give PMA format 'specs', but using it you can fairly easily find out how PMA files are organized. And for the compression method: although I rewrote lots of the code (reverse engineered from PMext), I don't even fully understand the method used. Anyway, maybe this helps... Re: 7MHz with normal sound???
Hi you all, Laurens Holst [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: I was wondering... When my MSX works at 7MHz, the sound gets all garbled up. So now the rest of the motherboard (and the cartridges) get the 7MHz clock signal. Is it possible to 'block' this signal and relay the old clock signal (if the chrystal is still there?) to the rest of the motherboard??? I don't think this can harm (turboR does the same, doesn't it? Only the processor needs the higher clock frequency), and it would be great to finally get rid of the sound-problems with for example PSG, SCC, FM-PAC, MSX-Audio (one of my MSX-Audio devices already has got its own chrystal). This is possible, but depends on the following: In MSX machines I know, the standard 3.58 MHz. clock signal is used for 2 purposes: -CPU clock, -and as base frequency for audio generating IC's. The CPU clock signal is often used to control the signal timings of DRAM memory in the machine. And here is the issue: If these funtions are seperate (read: in seperate IC's), then you can simply 'feed' 3.58 MHz. to the audio parts, and the, possibly 7 MHz., CPU clock to the Z80 and DRAM controlling IC('s?). But if this is all controlled by one central IC ('MSX-engine'), then you can't seperate these funtions. If you would feed it the old 3.58 MHz. signal, then the DRAM timing would have no relation anymore with the CPU clock. - DRAM wouldn't work - well, you get the idea... This setup (one big IC) is used in MANY machines. Exceptions are possible here as well: You could add your own logic for generating the DRAM control signals, or you could use SRAM instead In short: it all depends on your particular machine, and what you're willing to change. The fact that your cassette connector cable only has 1 wire connected probably comes from the fact that in most cases all grounds are internally (in the apparatus) connected to each other.
