I looked firstly at BiFI´s page but could not locate it there. I was in #msx channel
and got the URL
to MEP roms.
And when Maico said there was an unreleased version, I thought it was something else
than the one I dl. It would be smarter to name the ROM/ZIP file at MEP V1.59.64 or so,
because you can´t see that out of Novaxis.zip / Novaxis.rom. Yes, ofcourse I could
have gone back and looked it up at the site (version number).
Sorry.

NOVAXIS SCS questions!!!

2001-06-18 Thread Bjørn Boye Skjoldhammer

Hi,

I have received today a SCSI card which supposed to
be a novaxis interface, but it
is a HSH with NOVAXIS ROM, the large sized
cartridge not the small one from Gouda.

When it is powered on it says (more or
less):

Novaxis MSX/tR SCSI Bios v1.00
(1994) KMCs / MSX Club Gouda
HG. 1993 Hardware V1.1

Now my questions:

Is there any difference in how it operates compared
to an real GOUDA interface w NOVAXIS ROM?
What software must I use, none was supplied with
it. I need the FDISK program.

AFAIK there is newer ROM bios out there, could
someone forward me the newest bios image? someone evt. willing to burn it for me
(?), thus I don´t have an eprom burner.

This "MSX/tR", doesn´t say (BIOS) only for tR,
huh?

Thanx in advance!

My MSX died this morning...

2001-05-30 Thread Bjørn Boye Skjoldhammer

Well finally it´s last minute came.this morning
when I was about to check for articles
of XBASIC versions, disassembled by Henrik
Gilvad

Does someone recognize the problem and can give me
some advice on what is wrong with it?:

It´s a SONY HB-F700D, plain. When turned on it
displays the MSX logo but then hangs there.
What is wrong with it??

Thanks god I had a spare sony 700 on my attic which
I had to dig out, but I want to bring this one back to life too.

The sony i dug out has forgotten all
settings.

What are the commands for clock IC, to make it
start up in screen 0, width 80, color 15,4,4 etc???

SET ?

Re: Basic v2.0 and 2.1?

2001-05-29 Thread Bjørn Boye Skjoldhammer

MSX BASIC versions that I'm aware of:
1.0: The MSX1 system
2.x: The MSX2 system. Do not know the difference between subversions
3.x The MSX2+ system. Do not know if there are multiple subversions
4.x: The MSX turbo R system. I know that the GT contains 4.1. Do not know if
the ST contains 4.0 or that 4.0 never existed.

And as far as KUN-BASIC is concerned: there are two versions. Version 1,
which is compatible with MSX2 and version 2, which is compatible with MSX2+.

I think there is also a tR version out there too...
If memory serves Henrik Gilvad had it once when he disassembled it for adding in
gfx9000 basic...

Ramdisk command (_ramdisk()) in basic v2.x) ??
Never heard of it.

AFAIK _ramdisk is strictly enabled under DOS2.

You are sure you don´t mix it with _memini or something like that if memory serves,
this allowed to use 32K or less of conventional, not mapper memory for storage.

What I tink?

This a good example of what I have in mind.
Such person goes for the cash, and he knows people are crazy enough to pay the price
he expects.
In reality there is only a hardcore group which would pay the price. This will cause
the prices to go up, because other sellers will think, if he can sell it for the price
why, can´t I? This helps only to make rare msx stuff even more expensive...on ebay!!!

I guess my 328 and 605 box ended in a junk yard... Though I profanated it before, took
out the power supply for my msx HD Then it blew up one day and killed my damn

Hehe, I have only a plain P133 :-), no fancy stuff. And indeed SVI-738 is a lovely

Hi,

According to the info I got, the roms on the cd´s

So in that case well, you can forget about using it

Hi,

It should be possible.
I wouldn´t advise to create such partition since there is no chkdsk.com for fat16.
If anything goes wrong (a stupid program overwrites FAT) you can´t repair it

I just used deltree.com on my fat16 drive. Well, I can confirm it didn´t work.
Actually it screwed up the fat. Argh! I´m trying to save what is still readable right
now :-(.

My advise: stick only to the dos commands no external programs, coz this can ruin
everything.
It is good for backup purposes but yet as relaiable as I would like to see iit..

Look at www.msx.ch for fat driver and link to developers jap. page.

For

Yes you can.
Free space on a FAT16 partition will not be correctly interpreted though.

I was wondering how a program that uses PAC to save data recognizes it?
Afaik, there is no ROM in PAC (only 8KB SRAM).
What is the trick to dect the SRAM?

I have somewhere a program for dos to save/load SRAM saves from PAC.
There is sourcecode for it too. The documentation is in jap. If someone is interested
I can put it on my page.
But I guess not many people do own the REAL PAC!? and the original FM-PAC has its own
save/load manager

I´ll have to check if it works also on FM-PAC, it should in that case.

Has someone got a translation of the original jap. FM-PAC manual?
I´m interested in the pages which explain the PAC copy functions and about blocks on

Download times? Are the ROM / DSK etc. not already packed with zip/lha/lzh/pma when
you download from internet today?
Well if we are talking of implementing this standard for DSK images/ other file based
games too I agree that the compression would save some space.
But this will only apply to emulators.
I agree on the fact that the 128K/256K ROMs take MUCH space on msx´s floppy disks /
harddisk but decompression speed on msx is too low for such operation (unless you
don´t care about the speed). It would take ages to load anything. How do you imagine
to decompress 128K/256K ROMs on msx? It would only apply to people with harddisks.
So mainly this compression issue is merely to be used only with emulators.

Well as said before it´s better to forget about implementing any decompress&run for
packed rom files on real msx.

An individual decompression routine for MSX would be enough, to manually decomress /
extract the files.

There is somewhere a ROM to COM converter.
After that it could be compressed with POPCOM but if it will work or not dunno.
Just a suggestion :-).

problems with some drives which simply didn´t work on msx ide. Timing problems or so?

Try to use the direct read routines by Henrik Gilvad for IDE.(COPY/DIR etc (COM files))
Though, I don´ t know if they work with the latest bios but they should do.

If this fails you better get another cd drive.
The one I used on my msx was Acer 40x, and worked fine with msxcdex and direct
routines.

IDE standard says that the cable must be no longer than 50 cm.
Maybe your cable is too long?

BTW does anyone know why the limit is 50cm??

Sure it will also confuse newcomers to the msx emulator world yet more...

Some download sites don´t support strange unknown formats.
PMA is already a problem now!

Is there a compression algorithm doesn't have any patent issues and

A simple LZW algorithm?

I really don´t see the idea of compressing the files? We are not talking about files
of Nintendo 64 which are pretty big but about small roms. With the harddisks we can
buy today of 30GB size who would have storage problems??? It will mainly give some
head ache to developers to implement some compression and yet make the roms unusable
on normal msx - unless there will be an external converter... Anyway considering the
slack on the HD what benifit it would give to compress a 16kb file?

Would be nice if Trunks updated the loadrom.com for MSX to suppot evt. the format so
normal msx user would also gain something out of it.

In my opinion a separate file is a better choice than tamper with converting the
million of rom images out there.
We will get even more dumb questions about the rom format in this list and in
comp.sys.msx.
Though the faq :-) has helped a lot on that.

A database of (CRC) files could be made so anyone could add it to their rom images if
they wish too...
I dunno if calculating crc is so good idea since there are several versions of same
cartridges with different data (beta versions etc) or patched ones.

You have in mind loading the whole disk image to memory and run it?
I don´t think there is any software to do that.

You will have to buy a MEGA SCSI, the only way to run disk images from HDD,
I guess.
I would be glad to see a utility which could do the same trick on the IDE
interface :-).
Putdisk/Getdisk/Start.com work though but only on very few games

I think I had this problem too.
It might be caused either by corruption of the file or (?) maybe the file
was packed with popcom. As far I know the internal settings of TED are saved
inside the com file, thus it might be damaged.
