I have used the rust remover from harbor freight and it works great http://www.harborfreight.com/catalogsearch/result?q=rust+remover. you can get them all on ebay for $80 right now. If you wont to go that route I have the shocks for $40. They have the lite rust around the adjusting holes. Actualy thinking about it the ones for $50 on ebay are in just a little better shape than mine. if you want picks send me a direct email and I will send them out. bkl64...@yahoo.com Don't the 650 parts fit right on the 700? Thanks Brian, no, parts from the 650 don't fit the 700S -0 not the shocks, aluminum engine side covers. I have started sanding and polishing the covers. It's been sitting in a garage its whole life and has been sitting in a garage for the past 2-3 years. I plan on changing the oil, filter and air filter this week. I noticed after I ran it 30 miles or so; after a couple of heat/cool cycles, that the valve cover gaskets are leaking a bit. The front L/R sides drip onto the fins a bit. Is this because it has been sitting? Will it go away after a few days? If not I've been told its easy to replace for 30 bucks or so off bike bandit. My questions are these: 1) Where can I get a repair manual for this? Clymer doesn't make one! I've looked around.; but I only see an electronic version for the 750S, non-U.S. 2) The valve cover gasket described above. 3) Can I run mobil 1 synthetic, or other synthetic brands? Suggestions? 4) Should I also change the shaft oil as well? Thanks in advance for the help! Before going out to buy new gaskets, check that thel bolts are properly torqued. It may just need a re-tightening. If some are loose, loosen all and re-torque. If that doesn't solve it then look at shelling out the bucks - or, make your own. Kim did. I make my own also. My question goes out to all the mechanics out there. I just bought a MINT 700S that looks like it just rolled out of museum. I'm not kidding. The bike has had two, maybe three owners. Re: [Nighthawk Lovers] Re: Nighthawk 700S
I like to take the wiring diagram from the CD and print it out poster size 36x42 and hang it on the wall. It makes it a lot easier to trace down the problem. -Kyle On Thu, Jul 8, 2010 at 12:08 PM, greenzer...@gmail.com greenzer...@gmail.com wrote: I prefer the cd because i can make printouts of the parts i need and not get updet when i spill oul and greese on them Also keep multipul copies (orignal cd, hard drive, complete printout, extra printouts from last job) -Original Message- Date: Thursday, July 08, 2010 7:09:55 am To: Nighthawk Motorcycle Lovers! nighthawk_lovers@googlegroups.com From: MOPARJOE joe_angelu...@yahoo.com Subject: [Nighthawk Lovers] Re: Nighthawk 700S BTW...there is almost always factory (Honda) service manuals available on Ebay. I have both the book and CD as well. I like the CD because if working on a specific area of the bike I can simply print that section and use it on the work site and not be concerned with getting the pages of the factory manual all full of greasey fingerprints. [Nighthawk Lovers] Re: Nighthawk 700S
Welcome Frank, I replaced the valve cover gaskets on my 450 back in the winter and they still drip a little. Not a big deal as far as I'm concerned. I never smell smoke even at a stop light, it's just aesthetics. If it's really bugging you or they're dripping a lot replace them and\or run a thin coat of black or red RTV around the sealing surface and then put it back on. Should take care of the leak right away. Heh, I had typed up almost the exact same paragraph Paul had already posted before I reread the thread. He already said what I wanted to say. Pick a nice 40 weight oil that makes you feel warm and fuzzy and go ride. :) And yes I would change the final drive oil so you know when it was last done and so you know it's gear oil in there instead of apple juice. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups Nighthawk Motorcycle Lovers! group. [Nighthawk Lovers] Re: Nighthawk 700S
Graham and Greenzero, here you go! Photos posted! These are from the original seller, not me. These were before I washed and waxed it. I'll post some new ones when I get the time. You might try tightening the allen bolts holding the cover on but be careful, don't over tighten. I did replace the gaskets on two of mine and yes it was very simple to do. The gaskets cost $40 each, can't remember where I bought them - probably Bibebandit. About the oil, check out the threads on the subject in the archives, there's plenty of info , advice and opinions there. I found it very helpful. Shaft oil is also very simple to change and a good idea to do so - along with the brake and clutch fluids. We all want to see pics of your mint 700S Graham On Jul 7, 2010, at 2:04 AM, Frank D wrote: Hello All! Im new to this group, so I hope to get (and give) some useful info. My question goes out to all the mechanics out there. I just bought a MINT 700S that looks like it just rolled out of museum. I'm not kidding. The bike has had two, maybe three owners. [Nighthawk Lovers] Re: Nighthawk 700S / ZX6E for sale
Cant make out anything on the Night Hawk .. ...got a better pic or details please? Good thing is NightHawks are affordable, so you can always get another one later... I just tried to ebay the zx6 and got another dead beat bidder. I will post pictures and stats of both bikes. If anyone is seriously interested in either they can let me know. Both bikes are in good, but not perfect condition. I'm thinking I would like to get 3,000 for the zx6 and probably 1,800 for the nighthawk. I don't really want to let the nighthawk go, but times are tough and #4 is only 4 weeks away. My wife will be out of work for at least 6-8 weeks, which is going to put a financial burden on us. Nothing we cannot recover from, but would be nice to have 3/4K more in the bank to weather this time. Here is a picture of both so you get a sense of what I'll be selling.
