Home Movie of Toddler Dancing to Prince Sparks Bogus Copyright Claim

San Jose - On Friday, July 18, at 9 a.m., the Electronic Frontier
 Foundation
(EFF) will urge a federal judge in San Jose to protect the free speech and
fair use rights of mother who posted a home movie of her son dancing to
 Prince on YouTube.

EFF represents Stephanie Lenz, who uploaded a 29-second clip of her son
dancing in the family kitchen to the Prince song, Let's Go Crazy, which
 is
playing on a stereo in the background. Remarkably, Universal Music
Publishing Group claimed that the video infringed its copyrights, and had
the video yanked from YouTube. Lenz's lawsuit against Universal seeks to
hold the company accountable for misrepresenting that her fair use
violated
 its copyrights.

In Friday's hearing, EFF will ask U.S. District Court Judge Jeremy Fogel
to
reject Universal's motion to dismiss the case, and allow Lenz's lawsuit to
 continue.

HAMLET
by William Shakespeare

and

*HAMLET*
(The Artist Formerly Known as)
*Prince of Denmark
*

*a Pop-Musical Parody*
*Nicholas Jenkins as Hamlet and Marc Armstead as Hamlet-Prince in CSUSB
Theatre's Pair of Productions*

In Shakespeare's Hamlet, something is indeed rotten in the state of
Denmark. The rightful king has been murdered by his brother, and that
brother instantly married his widow. The king's son sees dead people and
even his girlfriend is going crazy. The world of this Hamlet is more a
horror story of gothic dimension than a classic tragedy.

In the pop-musical parody Hamlet (The Artist Formerly Known as) Prince of
Denmark, Shakespeare's twisted tale of murder and revenge is tempered with
a heavy dose of slapstick, pop culture references, and ba(r)d puns. The
audience will party like it's 1599 when At Midnight, Under the Cherry
Moon, a ghost donning a Raspberry Beret proclaims Let's Go Crazy!

*Productions run on alternate days for four weekends, May 16 - June 8.
Evening performances at 8:00pm, with Sunday matinees at 2:00pm.
*

*The first Sunday matinee of each show will feature sign language
interpretation.*

Thank you, Portia!

I've seen him live a couple of times and enjoy his show. Not everyone has to

most musicians vs. Prince. I love Prince for the fact that he is not

love Van for his prowess as a lyricist and the way you are able to hear

I can remember once going on okayplayer-trying for the 15th time to
find some new info on D'angelo's still nascent record-and stumbled
across a thread about the Prince comparisons that have been made

I never even imagined that you could mix the words p**ssy

It's ironic. Just two nights ago an associate called and asked if HE

I read the first line, there aint sh*t about Van Hunt that's

2007-07-26 Thread afroTsiac
I agree with you, April, regarding people never being satisfied, PE not
being the greatest, and the lyrical cheese factor. The rap in Mr.
Goodnight makes me chuckle. A lot. A whole lot. Will this album be in my
Prince Top 5 Albums of All Time? No way, Jose. However, I am diggin' the
following:

Planet Earth - (I REALLY like this song)
Guitar - (Poppy and fun)
Somewhere Here on Earth (Perfection)
Chelsea Rodgers (Fun and funky, corny lyrics aside)
Future Baby Mama (But why the title? whyyy??)

He's given a lot of excellent music over an extensive career and I don't
expect perfection every time, either. Every artist hits a creative wall,
roadblock, or whatever, sometimes for years. PE is what it is, take it or
leave it. I won't get all up in arms. I'll save that ire for glitches in
the NPGMC matrix and questionable ticketing practices. ;)

Agreed. My review of Planet Earth is: what IS this? These are
definitely the rehearsal sessions from Rainbow Children and Musicology.
I'm happy to hear him playing interesting guitar a little more, but I
wish he'd play more guitar on less hokey songs.

Couldn't he have sold Sony that C-Note album or something? Rainbow
 Children?
Then maybe people would actually HEAR that album? This Sony/Motown stuff
is hard to listen to. I am clearly an indie label Prince fan, I guess,
because this is two of these crappy albums in a ROW. I hope he has some
 bootleg something planned.

That being said, I think it would take Sign O The Times Part 2 to
please some of us fans. We're really hard on him. I know I am. But
 that's what happens.

Moderator: When I heard the title Planet Earth for the first time I
didn't know what to expect. I was really hoping for a SOTT Part 2. PE is
a great title track and it would of been nice if he Prince had built on
 that.

Maybe if he was a more worldly person. I he needs to get out and be the
streets again. Visit a third world country. Experience the life when you
don't have millions of dollars to comfort you. He is way too shelters.
Worry too much about the music industry and not the art that pays the
bills. I am sorry but I can't relate anymore. -Derek

Moderator: No worries, the album sucks too. You can wait till you get

home. Planet Earth is basically Chaos and Disorder Pt. 2. Only
difference is they are a better choice of songs in PE. I am extremely
dissapointed in PE. You would think after taking a year off he would
have some strong material ready for release. There are maybe 3 gems in

an album of 10 tracks. I think most of these tracks ar left over from
TRC, ONA, Musicology and 3121. -Derek

Oh my God. Wendy, is the Water Warm Enough?

Here I was after reading the reviews of last nights show not
looking forward to this one at all. It was like night and day. If
I miss anything now, it is because I am in a hurry but will update
  it later.

D.J. Rashida was spinning in the Blossom room, which now has a big
Purple 3121 sign which seems engulfed in the curtains behind the
stage. The screens were all playing the Verizon commercial on a
  loop.

Around 12:49 the band starts playing. This was incredible. So
incredible in fact, I know the set list will speak volumes 2 u more
  so then my words right now;

  1. Footprints (Prince came out towards the end off stage left and
watched and then clapped at the end)
  2. Renato solo
  3. What A Wonderful World performed by Mike Phillips
  4. Somewhere Here On Earth (Entered stage right nice new ballad off
of Planet Earth along with lighting effects of space.)
  5. Take Me With U (Full version 1st Hohner, then blue strat)
  6. Guitar (This fricken rocked and everyone even in the VIP's
  started getting up and Dancing.
  7. 7 (short)
  8. Come Together (W/ Shelby J. on lead n Prince backing up)
  9. Beyonce cover (Will fix later when I remember what it was or
  someone posts, Shelby J singing)
  10. It's Over (Shelby J)
  11. The Long Winding Road
  12. Musicology
  13. Give It To Me Baby (Rick James cover)
  14. Brick House
  15. 77-9311 (hot bass solo)
  16. The Jam (Numbers 13-16 were short versions but great jamming)
  17. Play That Funky Music (Sung by Nikka Costa!!!)
  18. Everybody Got Their Something (Duet w/Prince Nikka Costa
singing in2 same mic. Nikka bowed 2 Prince several times after this
  before leaving the stage.)
  19. Get Funky (Maceo Parker Prince goes into crowd and grabs someone
by the hand. That someone is...
  Wendy Melvoin!!!

  Acoustic set W/Wendy Melvoin

  20. Little Red Corvette (It first sounded like Sometimes It Snows
In April but wasn't. This was amazing, with Prince grabbing Wendy's
hand a few times and them looking at each other. Prince proclaims
this is Karaoke night with Prince Wendy.)
  21. Raspberry Beret (full version)
  22. Elephants Flowers
  23. Girl(!!! Not the Time Version, but the P The Revolution B-
  side! Full Version)
  24. Who Is He And What Is He To You.
  25. Reflection
  26. Sometimes It Snows In April. (At the end of the song, Wendy
stood up and kissed Prince. Awesome. Wendy switched acoustic
models several times which was cool. It was heard to hear her in
the mix but still an incredible performance. End of Acoustic Set.)

  27. Cream (Prince said I am gonna play the hits til I wear you
  out. Full version.)
  28. U Got The Look
  29. If I Was Ur Girlfriend
  30. Pink Cashmere
  31. 1 Kiss At A Time (ends with one of Prince's screams.)
  32. Black Sweat
  33. Kiss
  34. Let's Go Crazy
(The chants of We Want More It Ain't Over fill the place as Prince

I met Tevin Campbell tonight! I was walking with my friends Ashlene

walking into a Rite Aid on a nearby corner, and called out, Thats
Tevin Campbell! I didnt believe her, so I chilled outside while
Sumeet and Ashlene went inside to scope it out.

Ashlene is a huge fan and has been trying to get in touch with him
for months now (she's a journalist and has interviewed lots of
singers, including Sumeet: http://www.ashleneonline.com).

A few minutes later, Sumeet calls my cell and says it's Tevin, and
that they're talking to him inside. So I went in, and they had
stopped him as he was buying some ice cream to take back to his
apartment.

I took a photo of Ashlene and Tevin from my cell phone camera:
http://www.soundvillains.com/tevinashlene.jpg

We went to a Starbucks with Tevin across the street and talked for
about 20 min. Really nice guy. Lives in that area of Manhattan.
Ashlene is prob going to do an interview with him and put it up on
her site soon.

Anyway, it was a funny little random story, so I thought I would
share it! I dont think he gets recognized much anymore... except by
Prince fans, of course. :-)
