Check your metapost version. It should be upwards of 0.990,
if it is not, that is the problem.

 Hello folks,

 I am using an image to embed the logo at the top of the document. The
 background of my document is gray, and when I render the document, the logo
 shows up with a white background, over the gray background. Something
 similar to the \frame command. My logo image was converted from PSD
 (Photoshop PSD) to PDF, and I have preserved the tranparent background so
 that I could layer it over a background and it picks the background color
 instead of the white background.

 How do I embed my image in the document so that the background stays the
 background color of the document? What am I doing wrong?

I don't know if what you did is supposed to work or not, but I assume
it is. That leaves the possibility that Adobe's transparent is not
properly understood by pdftex.

I normally convert such images to png with alpha, that works fine for
screen and (laser)print. For professional applications, you may run
into trouble with color conversions, but that is true for most pdf(tex)
output that contains any kind of transparency.

Good luck,

Just fetch this one:

   https://foundry.supelec.fr/frs/?group_id=13release_id=194

You can simply unzip and copy the binaries from the
metapost-0.993-win32.zip over the ones from the distrib,

and run ctxtools --update to refresh the metafun format.

Best, Taco

Installed metapost 0.993 (reports as 0.992) and did the ctxtools

This could be bad, but it is unrelated to metapost. If you context still
runs ok, I would not worry about it, since it seems metafun is the only
format that was correctly regenerated.

It could be that ctxtools somehow only understands about pdftex 1.40
(whose executable name for pdfetex is now once again renamed to pdftex)

Hans can no doubt explain what happens here better than I can.

[NTG-context] bad page break

2007-01-07 Thread David Arnold
All,

We have a situation where we want to put in a page break to move some
text at the bottom of the page to the next page. However, there is a
float that hasn't been typeset yet, so the result of \page[yes] is to
put the float at the top of a blank page, then page again to continue
the running text.

Anyway around this?

[NTG-context] Header problem in project

2007-01-07 Thread David Arnold
Hans et all,

We have a project call book.tex, a product in that called
chapter1.tex, and a component in that called section1exercises.tex.

We have blocks that we save and then place at the end of
section1exercises.tex with a macro defined in our environment file:

\def\placeanswers{%
   \bgroup
   \doifmodeelse{short}
   {
  \keepblocks[shortsubanswer,longsubanswer]
   \answers{Answers}\vskip 1em\startcolumnset[answers]
   \selectblocks[shortanswer][criterium=section]
   \stopcolumnset
   }
   {
  \def\headermarkleft{{\sc Chapter \headnumber[chapter]}}
  \def\headermarkright{{\sc{}Section \headnumber[section]}}
  \setupheadertexts[][\headermarkright][\headermarkleft][]
   \keepblocks[shortsubanswer,longsubanswer]
   \answers{Solutions}\vskip 1em
   \selectblocks[longanswer][criterium=section]
   }
   \egroup
}

The else part of the do above is an attempt to define a different
header when we compile with --mode=long, but just for the pages on
which we use \placeanswers. The other pages have a different header
defined in the environment file. Those headers have page numbers as
well with:

\def\headermarkleft{\bold{\pagenumber}\headerskip{\sc\headerskip
Chapter \headnumber[chapter]\headerskip\getmarking[chapter][current]}}

\def\headermarkright{{\sc{}Section \headnumber[section]\headerskip
\getmarking[section][current]}\headerskip\bold{\pagenumber}}

The file section1exercises ends like this:

%%% ENDTESTBANK
%%%
\stopquestions

\placeanswers\kern0pt

\stopcomponent

When we compile section1exercises.tex with texmfstart texexec --
mode=long section1exercises, all is well until the last page, where
the former header is used instead of the header defined in the
\placeanswers macro. But we want to finish out the document from the
point we put the \placeanswers with the second header.

Any suggestions?
