 OK, this may not be of much help, but I just converted GenR102.TTF to

 regenerating the font would solve mysterious problems, so I shrugged
 my shoulders and did what a man must do. I think the new Gentium
 license allows for this conversion, and the LaTeX people will be
 distributing pfbs anyway, so why not convert to pfb (which is easier
 for TeX to use anyway?)

Hi Thomas,
You're completely right ! Just tried with PFB (converted by fontforge)
and it works :)

 Did you rename all files to lowercase (and without spaces)? ConTeXt
 sometimes has problems if file names use uppercase letters.

Under Linux with teTeX 3.0 (with latest ConTeXt), I try many times
with upper filename (TTF, PFB) and I have never problem with. It works
correctly on my box, and of course under Unix/Linux in general IMHO.

I don't use TeX under Windows, so I have no idea.

Just tested your package. I loss a glyph which I dont know the name.
Its shot is at :
http://people.vnoss.org/~vnpenguin/pub/shots/gentium-dd.png

It seems that you use Gentium 1.01. With Gentium 1.02 in my box, I
could use this glyph no problem (the shot was done with Gentium 1.02
in Leafpad editor).

I try to replace your ttf by 1.02 release by modifying map file. But
this does not help. Maybe we need to recreate files with 1.02 ?

Just tried your new package.
1. In the file t5-sil-gentium.map, I see:

Why 1.01 ttf are still there ? And why 1.02 PFB while there are only
TTF in your package ?

2. I don't think that files fonts.cache-1 are necessary for ConTeXt :-)
$ unzip -l sil-gentium.zip | grep fonts.cache

 ah ... sorry ... i hate this font name mess

 in type-akb.tex search for:

 \starttypescript [adobekb,berry] [t5]

 and comment this typescript (see attached file)

 if that works ok, i'll make a new zip

 Now this is a persistent problem

 - some distributions only ship with the u* font files
 - others with the p* font files
 - it even changes now and then
 - and it was suggested that nowadays p* would work everywhere
 - which it doesn't
 - because vietnamese does not have p* files
 - so we need to use u* ones
 - till someone tells me to use p* ones
 - which, of course, then will not be available everywhere
 - and so on

 so, now it looks like we end up with a mixture of p* for non vietnamese
 and u* for vietnamese

 (an option is to use the cont-fnt zip file and forget about
 adobekb/berry naming but i didn't test it with vietnamese [yet])

a standard in Vietnam, and other charsets (VISCII, VPS, TCVN) are less

 Your pdfetex is loading the wrong map files (actually it only
 loads pdftex.map, nothing else), and that will not work.

 Perhaps you put a \pdfmapfile{pdftex.map} line in your cont-sys?

Remove only text output=pdf:

 know what options to pass to pdftex's configure-script to match the
 setup on a Gentoo system (where stuff is stored in /etc/texmf and
 /var/lib/texmf)?

The simple way, IMHO, is to build teTeX into /usr/local/teTeX.
After finished all, you need put /usr/local/teTeX/bin at top of your
$PATH and that should ok.

PATH=/usr/local/teTeX/bin:/usr/bin:.

By this way I have always teTeX/pdfetex/ConTeXt up-to-date on my FC4 box.

 Hi,

 Please read the beginning of the mfont.tex from manuals thread

 David Arnold had.

Thanks, it's ok. But I have to add:

\usemodule[abr-01]

Re: [NTG-context] beginners manual

2005-11-26 Thread VnPenguin
Hi Hans et al,

Just tried to compile ma-cb-en with T5. Here are some remarks:

1. \def\TitlePage#1#2#3 in file ma-cb-style.tex does not work with T5.
Because of

\definedfont[SansBold at 40pt]

I lossed so many vietnamese accented characters. I have to change to

\switchtobodyfont[40pt]\bf

in order to make T5 work. I think the file ma-cb-style.tex needs
more attention for multi-lang support.

2. In file ma-cb-en-document.tex :
...
\CONTEXT\ expects a plain \ASCII\ input file. Of course you
can use any texteditor or wordprocessor you want, but you
should not forget that \CONTEXT\ can only read \ASCII\
input. Most texteditors or wordprocessors can export your
file as plain \ASCII.
...
What do you think about a plain text input file in UTF-8 charset ?
It's not ASCII by definition, but the current ConTeXt (pdfetex) can
work with it no problem. All my works with ConTeXt are prepared in
UTF-8 input file.

That's all for now.

Thank you for your work,
Regards,

 Truthfully, I am not sure.

 Since teTeX 3.0 and its non-existent engine support, I always run

texexec --make --all

 and ignore fmtutil completely. There is just no way for me to keep
 my executables apart without engine support. And then there is the
 separation between fmtutil-sys and fmtutil for users, so that, even
 when you are root, 'fmtutil' is still not a 'system command'.

 So: perhaps you now have a format with your changed file, and
 perhaps not, I really do not know. If you feel up to it, perhaps
 you can send me the utf-8 document in an e-mail message (zipped
 or tarred, to prevent e-mail clients' messing with it).

 Good luck, Taco

Hi Taco,
You're really a guru !
It's OK now after doing your suggestion and run texexec --make --all

Hi,
Just tested your context.vim under vim 6.3.x; It's better than
tex/latex standard syntax in vim 6.3 IMHO.

I have only a small remark: The following code is valid in ConTeXt:

\useURL
[book-ns-openssl][http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/059600270X/qid%3D1024342376/103-8123753-9606263][][Network

but the syntax considers % like a comment mark, so I see another color
for the text after %.
It's possible to make the comment pattern smarter ? :)

 That was a bug, so, although I promised I wouldn't do this ... here is
 version four. ;-)

  - The text font seems to be defaulted to small capitals. However, this
  is merely one of the conventions how text after a dropcap is set. Other
  conventions include e.g. roman or italic caps, roman or italic lower

 You can set the 'TextFont' parameter to something else.

  - Regarding the slope one should be able to set indentation separately
  for each line. This depends on the fact that some characters call for a
  different type of intendation of the lines - e.g. the character L.

 I will keep this in mind for a future extension

  - Sometimes there is a need to indent the dropcap slightly itself, e.g.

 You can set the 'Hang' parameter to a negative value.

  that's not possible in pdf

 oh,

 So could I use the page number for this link \goto {contents} [contents] ?
 Could you show me how one can add the link into the page number please.

Found myself :

\def\mypagenum#1{\goto{#1}[tocrefpage]}
\setuppagenumbering
[left={--~},right={~--},command=\mypagenum]

So I'm happy with this solution :)

Thanks Hans  all,

 newinstaller,
 i struggled more than one day with installation of context. i'm using a
 different OS (redhat linux) and have a different tex-distribution on it
 (tetex), but maybe this hint is useful for you too:
 in the tetex-distro there is a file .../texmf/web2c/fmtutil.cnf . in
 this file the lines for context were commented by default - you have to
 uncomment them and run fmtutil --missing afterwards (or fmtutil
 -all, if you have more time). maybe in miktex there's somthing
 similiar. at my first try i forget to run fmtutil, edited texexec.ini
 and run texexec --make which worked. but afterwards context had some
 special features.

Which version of teTeX ? with Redhat linux I imagine that's very
out-of-date tex system, right ?

 Hi,

 Attached is an xml file that describes the hyphenation pattern files. I'd
 appreciate checking (some records are incomplete). I'd also like to add (for

 input
 and font encodings etc.

Hi Hans,

Vietnamese lang uses empty hyphenation pattern.

 Lettrine is easier than that, actually. I thought this would be quite
 funny, so here is a brand new module called t-lettri.tex, and an example.

Just tried 2 attached files and I see error:
...
system (E-TEX) : [line 2280] \ifcsname

specials: fdf loaded
unprotect 3 protect 3)
specials: fdf,tpd loaded

(./t-lettri.tex

to be read again

l.99 \def\LettrineFontEPS{#1

?

In the src t-lettri.tex if I change

\def\LettrineFontEPS{#1}{%

to

\def\LettrineFontEPS#1{%

It works fine ;)

[NTG-context] Strange result with 2 columns and textbackground

2005-02-25 Thread VnPenguin
Hi,
I do a small test with 2 columns and textbackground :

\setupcolors[state=start]
\definetextbackground[preface]
[backgroundcolor=green,
backgroundoffset=.25cm,
offset=.5cm,
frame=off,
location=paragraph,
color=blue]

\starttext
\chapter{Chapter TEST}
\startcolumns[rule=off,n=2]
\starttextbackground[preface]

\section{tufte.tex}
\input tufte

\section{knuth.tex}
\input knuth

\stoptextbackground
\stopcolumns

\stoptext
-
The result is very strange :

 http://people.vnoss.org/~vnpenguin/pub/context/test-bgcolor.pdf

I'm wrong some things ?

Thank you,
