[OM Cooker] Link to the last cooker ISO

2016-03-02 Thread davide . garatti

Hi,

Can I suggest to create an area where we can store the latest cooker's
ISO installable
And linked it directly in
https://wiki.openmandriva.org/en/Cooker
It should be clear indicated on the top of the page to grant an easy
access at every ones wants to try it.

In this moment on
https://abf.io/platforms/cooker/products/136/
and
https://abf.io/platforms/cooker/products/163
there are not any build images

Thanks a lot

 +1
Nowadays users are looking for everything out-of-the-box
OMA might benefit of some donations from FSF, but
without users that install and use OMA , means that
openmandriva will be another iso designed for vbox.
Now if the amount of those FSF donation would
be enough to keep OMA going , then you have my vote,
otherwise we are risking those few users that still
 use omv.
Some numbers what out-of-the-box distro should be:
Hit on top: 1- multimedia ( mainly closed or plf)
2 stability/usability ( funny only on second place...)
 3 networking and file sharing
 4 games, and playing experience
 5 look and feel
 6 enduser support and updates

 Hi,

i've spent some time on this, so now new ISO building tool can be released
 for public.

With omdv-build-iso, you can build ISO image inside ABF (www.abf.io) and on
your computer, internet connection is mandatory for downloading packages
 from mirrors.
 How to install it ?
 urpmi omdv-build-iso

(it may not be released for 2014.0/1 due to QA testing).

 How does this work?
 omdv-build-iso.sh needs arguments:
 --arch= Architecture of packages: i586, x86_64
--tree= Branch of software repository: cooker, openmandriva2014.0
 --version= Version for software repository: 2015.0, 2014.1, 2014.0
--release_id= Release identifer: alpha, beta, rc, final
--type= User environment type on ISO: kde4, mate, lxqt, minimal, icewm,
 hawaii, xfce4
--displaymanager= Display Manager used in desktop environemt: kdm, gdm,
 lightdm, sddm, xdm
 --debug Enable debug output

If you want to build 64-bit ISO image with KDE4 from 2014.0 just type this

 omdv-build-iso.sh --arch=x86_64 --tree=openmandriva2014.0 --version=2014.0
 -- release_id=final --type=kde4 --displaymanager=kdm

By default syslinux is used as bootloader, UEFI support is not yet ready -
 this needs volunteers.

[OM Cooker] Question about ABF

2015-01-04 Thread Davide Garatti
Ciao and sorry for the question
I already have an account in ABF, and I would like to try to build
some rpm, maybe trying to upgrade some programs

My question is: I have to ask for something else to make the rpm?
Thanks a lot--

Re: [OM Cooker] Question about ABF

2015-01-04 Thread Davide Garatti
Thanks,

I see the null project, but i thiink i could have different problems

To validate my development environment, I looked for a project in ABF (for
example oregano, I
made the fork in my area, and then I launched a build for i586 for
OpenMandriva2014

If all was well, I would expect to get a build success, and find the rpm
package in my
repository right?

I'm not able to build nothing, and if I look at the logs file I found errors
that I don't think are
related to the project. and they are very similar to other previus tentatives
for other project.

https://abf.io/build_lists/2386125

I have created the abf account in the early time of OpenMandriva.
I would not want it changed something, and frankly I do not even remember if I
had to choose
something (profiles, versions etc).I'll try to check

thank a lot and sorry

Hi if you like you way want to try update some package which is in your
 interest from openmandriva tree.

You may want to take a look on openmandriva/null package to see for
 yourself how abf building works.

2014-12-30 Thread Davide Garatti
Your new themes it is very professional. Yes of course would be fantastic,
Also because i found the source of drakconf in abf and it is quite similar to
this
program, but written in perl. I was expecting something different.

Thank and Ciao

Re: [OM Cooker] Problem with repository

2014-10-01 Thread Davide Garatti

Therefore, in practice we already have the 2014.1? And what is the sense of
putting a
procedure for updating from 2014.0 on the release notes?

Boh! I do not understand. we want to hurt us.

I will close the BUG report, but please specify better the situation on the
release notes.

Thanks

My idea is to separate the om-welcome and autostart with another binary as a

We should use xdg autostart mechanism for that launcher. I have build the rpm

Re: [OM Cooker] ISOs for 2014.0 RC release

2014-03-31 Thread davide . garatti

Unfortunately, I was able to try out the ISO only today ... On three
different systems and until now, I have no system with the beta version
installed

all systems, where i tried to install the RC, are stopped on three
points.
The only possible operation is the ESC key.

all the systems report the same three rows:
[OK] Started Show plymouth Boot Screen
[OK] Reached target Paths.
[OK] Reached target Basic System

On Noteboot (i7 +8G ram + nvidia) i tried the boot.and also this
test was fail .

After a while on the tre dots system halt on dracut. The system is
frozen, I can not do anything.

frankly I find it strange a fail so extended.
I usually use as installation media, memory sticks, I'll try to do them
again .

When i will be able to get more information I will fill a bug report.

Is there some one who have installed these iso on AMD system?

Anyway I have update my report

Re: [OM Cooker] Localisation, Cooker, and Bugzilla

2014-03-14 Thread davide . garatti

Hello, we have already imported Italian localization by Mandriva to
OpenMandriva Linux.

When there is an import error, you can open the file with poedit, and it
will show you where is the syntax error.

I have usually found a n to remove, on translations.

A very important question is, how will be used these files? and Who will
insert the right files, really used, and still valid, on transifex?

I don't think all the files imported are useful.

Another question is OpenMandriva in transifex has two project

OpenMandriva Linux

Drakxtools-Guide.

Drakxtools-Guide must be translated?
the files in it are the ones who will use OpenMandriva?
Who have to request a new language?

I think would be useful to have all the projects, inside of Transifex
OpenMandriva, already prepared with a minimum set of languages ready to
be translated.
We could use loomio to vote, the minimum set of languages.

Thank you and Ciao

packages? Is there a process for that? Should locale bugs be put in their
 own Locale category for convenience?

 Hello Robert,

glad you bring up this topic. As far as copying files from Transifex is
concerned, most of the 2011 translation are still in Mandriva's old
transifex instance which is at http://transifex.mandriva.com [1]

Unfortunately I didn't find a way how to get the old files from
Mandriva's Transifex to the new instance. I emailed Mandriva SA about
this and they gave me some information about a Transifex client. There
is an issue about transferring files in OpenProject and to be honest I
can't resolve this problem all by myself and I do need some assistance.

So far what I did was copying the German files by uploading them
manually. This worked for most packages but some gave error messages and
failed during the Upload and I honestly do not know how our developers
are going to pick up the translations.

Some localization bugs (like the Homerun-topic) could be resolved and
this has been done by informing upstream KDE-homerun-project to pick up
 our stuff.

On a final note: If we don't get localization right we will be losing a
lot of our audience and I think the localisation issue is vital if we
truly want to have something like a global distribution.

 Have a good day,

 Maik

I absolutely agree with you

I wanted to tell you that for every project included in Transifex, it
would be nice, right away, ask for a translation in different languages
without waiting for someone to ask.
An example for the project draktool has not yet been requested the
Italian language.

A lot of them contain old source strings: As an example there is still

Re: [OM Cooker] Handbook for 2014.0

2014-03-03 Thread davide . garatti

Hi,

I have requested the Transifex.com access, to help italian localization.

a little contribute ...

About my manual, until now, I wrote this handbook only in italian, only
to simplify the access to Linux in Italy.

With OpenMandriva I have translated to English and aligned the both
handbook, but this kind of project is not born and structured to be
translated in an easy way to the other languages.
Before, I need to learn and get information about eventual conversion in
other structure, then in an near future, I think I will release all the
handbook to OpenMandriva.

But in this moment my free time it is always less and I need more time
to perform this step.

Re: [OM Cooker] [om-qa] DRAFT - Release plan for 2014.0

2013-12-01 Thread davide . garatti

Hi,

I think the second Release, should aim to stabilize and identify the
distribution:

stabilize:
1) Fix the bug of 2013 still open
2) Update the programs in the repositories and increase the number of
programs available (there are programs like celestia, gcompris, putty)
3) Test of HW and not only on the VM. (I'm being confirmed, installation
problems on laptops with nvidia cards)
4) It would be nice a database of supported hardware, in 2014 you could
think about how to do it.

identify:
1) Add to the Kickoff menu and SimpleWelcome symbol OpenMandriva.
2) Remove any Mandriva and Rosa
3) Customize, icons, colors, etc.

If it were possible it would be nice to have a LTS version with kernel
and programs extremely stable.
And even if it were possible to generate ISO for other DM would not
hurt,
more than anything else to make the complete choice.

And finally, ask ask ask directly to the community with frequent
questionnaires.

[OM Cooker] Question on LIVE boot on netbook and loop3 process????

2013-11-18 Thread davide . garatti

One Question.

I was testing again the live boot on netbook and notebook.

In particular i was testing the boot on a netbook where i'm able to
install the RC2 (as RC1 and beta) but I'm always not able to start
correctly the live.

Live seems to stop during the kde desktop boot

but if you switch on another TTY, login as root and then use top you can
find a process called loop3 who load 90% - 100% of CPU.

What does the process, Loop3?

Thank you

 Hi all,

If you haven't already noticed, the ISO we're asking to test only has

[OM Cooker] Driver nvidia ???

2013-11-05 Thread davide . garatti

the installation of the driver dkms never goes to fruition

I tried to install the file run official, and compared to some time
ago (when you used the open driver nv, the process is very complex.
During installation, it is clearly said that the proprietary driver is
not compatible with the nouveau driver, which is added to the blacklist.

I wonder ... how do you manage the process?
how it works on Rosa, as long as it still works?
would be possible to make an iso that use the nv driver or directly
proprietary ones?

the point of having the package steam, for example, without nvidia
drivers

thanks a lot

we already have a tool to install and remove software and Rosa Software
Center still does not work

it would not be better remove it from the installation DVD

Re: [OM Cooker] beta2 release candidate ISOs

2013-10-25 Thread davide . garatti

Hi,

Finally the installation finishes perfectly on all of my PC

Even the inclusion of the ISO image to USB pen works

Now I'm going to start Bug report on bugzilla

I have already seen that grub installation in the dual boot systems,
doesn't detect Windows, correctly.

I had to install os-prober and then update grub2

Thank you very much
