The pins you said are the right ones. However, if anything fails before the kernel is booted you won't get any output. You could try booting a 3.14 image and check if you are properly connected to the uart. It may be some wrong configuration related to the recently added DT support, which expects a DTB and since no DTB is passed from the bootloader, the kernel crashes before any output.
